  1. Miller says “This isn’t our Toronto”. However he is part and parcel of the ideology that spawns this anarchy.

  2. And the liklihood of some grad student being kicked out, let alone jailed, as a result is……nil.
Just saw Judy Rebick in a moment that must mean the apocolypse is coming….Judy, head of rabble, is now blaming the police. She wanted swifter and more forceful police action yesterday. Yet she is now complaining about that very thing today.
Her ability to hold two contradictory positions never ceases to amaze me.

  3. They blame the police for not arresting
They blame the police for arresting
They blame the police cars for being in the way
They blame the summit for being in Toronto, as if if summit causes the rioting as opposed to the rioters.
The left wing takes no responsibility, will not balme their fellow travellers. Every single opportunity they have to distance themselves from the Black Block, they wont, “a protestor is a protestor”.
Miller will distance himself from the summit. Now that he got what he wanted, he, kyle rae, adam giambrone greeting all of the world leaders at the airport.

  4. Bike rally has now blocked the detention centre/police base.
The cops cannot let this build or last.
Smart guys on the protestor side. Why the cops let them get there is beyond me. Removal will be ugly.

  5. When you stand by and allow public indecency at the pride parade or when you stand by and let terrorist supporters block roads, you send the message that you will let anything happen.
This is your Toronto. It’s just not decent people’s Toronto.

  6. This lot blames everyone for their own miserable lives of failure.
They look around, see happy successful people and conclude since they are neither happy or successful, society must be to blame.
After all, they are perfect, blameless and progressive.

  7. I made the mistake of watching the CTV Toronto late news last night. Media questioning chief of police used every tactic to blame inaction or brutality on the part of Toronto police/security forces. Not an honest person in the media gallery.

  8. “Acting on a tip received last night, the police descended on the [University of Toronto] and discovered a number of “weapons of opportunity”…”
It’s just anti-war protestors preparing to spread the message that violence is never the answer.

  9. Yeah I was going to say, notice how all the people protesting are mainly white, middle/upper middle class university educated people who dress like garbage marauders because it’s fashionable.
I want their student loans made public knowledge after they are found guilty.
This is what we create when society becomes to rich. This is the result.

  10. Apparently, the residences of the U of T were not being used by valid students, but someone had let in the outsiders (from Quebec?) and they were staying there! The police moved in to take them, and their bricks and bottles.
As for the hypocrisy of the left – what can one say but their postmodern ability to hold two opposite opinions, and rant and rave about each, is amazing.
The protests today are about the ‘cramped and cold’ conditions of the temporary jail set up for these ‘protesters’; I know they expected better accomodation but all of Toronto’s hotels were booked by the G20.
Oh, and another protest is for better bike paths. Another is..just because.
There hasn’t been one legitimate rally for issues to be dealt with by the G20. Not one. It’s all about the usual left complaints: ‘corporate wealth’ – and I’d bet 99.9% of these people have no clue how or what a corporation is; and ‘peace’; and I’d bet that the same ratio say zilch about the rogue nations of the world. Oh, and of course, welfare and poverty – and the ratio would consider that this can be fixed by..by giving more money to those on welfare. So there.
This meeting has been a win for Canada and Harper. Harper got his deficit reduction agenda accepted, got his rejection of a blanket bank tax accepted. Harper has shown his international astuteness very well. By the way, it is interesting that Obama, who can only campaign but not collaborate, does not appear at His Best in this type of ‘equal among everyone’ scenario.
The ‘protesters’, of course, have no interest in these accomplishments of the G20. Their focus is on burning cars, smashing windows and complaining about the ‘small and cold cells’.

  11. And notice how all those brave thugs in black called mommy and daddy when they were arrested. And notice how mommy and daddy and lawyer arrived.
My son/’daughter has never been in trouble.

  12. IMHO, those suffering damage/lost livelihood from the riots should consider individual or class-action lawsuits against the U of T Graduate Students Union and the U of T Undergrad Students Society(ies) owing to the use of the Koffler Centre and GSU facility to organize to commit mob violence.
Lawsuit(s) against the U of T for security failures might be another option. How did these people get past campus security to congregate on U of T facilities? And student bodies are involved in university governance, and the university governing bodies should have taken better precautions to prevent this happening on U of T property. Which might implicate the province since universities are provincial institutions.
At the very least, it might show these clowns, anarchist and academic, that there’s a price for all this. Lawfare can cut both ways.

  13. “The protests today are about the ‘cramped and cold’ conditions of the temporary jail..”
I would have preferred that they were taken to the Don Jail. That would have been a real eye opener for them. I doubt any of them would ever break the law again after a day in there.

    Dumb idea.
They were only renting rooms, they’re not liable for the conduct of the people who rented the rooms.

  15. I keep hearing the word “anarchists” being used by the media. I doubt there are that many. The truth be known, these are leftist-progressive wack jobs, in which Canada is well endowed, Toronto especially. And such nice images to send to the whole world eh?

  16. I am going out on a limb here, but a G20 consensus on deficit reduction is a refreshing change from Co2 reduction.
But these are politicians, so they are bound to disappoint.
On the other hand, as a rural wind turbine protester, I watch the police tactics with interest. It seems bicycles in the street present a significant obstacle to progress. The OPP appears reluctant to use D9s. Wait until they see what a bunch of manure spreaders will do.

  17. Stephen: “Her [Rebick’s] ability to hold two contradictory positions never ceases to amaze me.”
Hey, that’s the hallmark of a Leftard: speaking out of both sides of her/his mouth without experiencing any cognitive dissonance.
Wait! Isn’t that what pathological liars do?

Apparently not. The GSU was closed, as in empty. Someone let them in to use the space. Cops found them scattered around with their sleeping bags.

  19. The corporations damaged by the violence should also advise the U of T that they will not be donating any money to the U of T for any reason for, say, the next 5 years. Alumni should register their protest by refusing to donate to the U of T Alumni Association, and explain the reason for their refusal when the UTAA comes sniffing around for a donation. I know I will.

  20. Cold and Cramped??? Cramped maybe (their fault for getting arrested) but Good Lord, it’s about 90F here in Ontario today.
    It’s all BS.

  21. As I flip from Global to CTV to CBC, I see a majority of media personnel wearing black. The subtlety does not go unnoticed.

  22. It’s all Harper’s fault, the summit shouldn’t have been in Toronto.
    Right.

    ~allan
If the summit had been held in Kananaskis Country Alberta this wouldn’t have happened.
Also the excuse to inject $1 Billon in Federal taxes to Toronto wouldn’t have happened either so there is that unfortunate possibility.
    Broken window fallacy anyone?/

  23. “Weapons of opportunity”? Isn’t that what we used to refer to as “tools”? Isn’t the ability and propensity to fashion tools at need one of the rather salient characteristics of our species?
Hell, if I was stuck in Toronto during this chaos you bet I would be improvising weapons.

  24. The CTV crew was warned to move or they would be arrested. They didn’t move and were arrested. They of course are completely shocked and outraged.

  25. Set,
They werent renting. The facilities were closed. The question becomes who then let them into the facilities.
Now I doubt it was institutional, it would have been elements within the Grad Students Union. But not the Union itself. U of T itself is definitely not liable, unless you can prove a wionk and a nod from security…
find the individuals, and then then University should expel and the government prosecute.

  26. When you stand by and allow public indecency at the pride parade or when you stand by and let terrorist supporters block roads, you send the message that you will let anything happen.

    Perfect!!

  27. Just got back from a party where some protesters happened to be there. They were from the “legitimate” protest. The guy is in his 60’s and was a bureacrat, I’ll leave that one for later, so he wasnt any black Block guy, total innocent.
Anyway, he indicated that the whoole thing was planned. He was told not to let his wife go into the Starbucks since there was going to be “action” in the next 10 minutes. He then told them they might want to leave and described the path and their goal.
Lo and behold everything unfolded as described.
Make no mistake, this was planned, the plan was known to more than a few, it was timed. They had identified their targets, Starbucks, Banks and any store that American in it…like American Apparel.
So the question is just how widely was the plan known to the marshalls and organizers of the parade. It wasnt known to many of the innocents who were in it, but it was known to many others.

  28. If one wanted info re the G20, CPAC was all there was to watch. CTV & CBC covered the protesters, not the G20. Shameful!

  29. There is an a$$hole “Alex Neve” Secretary general to UN for Amnesty International on the tube squawking about having a review of the security of the G8 and G20 because it frightened people. What a stupid POS

  30. On CP24,the weather girl gave a shout-out in sympathy for the police out in the pouring rain.Reena, the dingbat hostess, snarkily says,’Nice little show of empathy there!’ and not hard to hear the sarcastic tone.

  31. If the U of T governance structure and campus security were doing their jobs, they would have made sufficient effort to assure that obvious facilities ripe for exploitation by the riff-raff element were secure. They obviosuly failed in this regard. They thus appear rather negligent.
Moreover, surely the executive structure of the GSU is obligated to abide by U of T governance and is accountable for how their facility is misused, just as the U of T governance structure is accountable for how the campus is misused. It doesn’t have to be collusion, merely negligence and incompetence. Plenty of that at U of T.
    Sue. Them. All.

  32. Wow, mass arrests still happening. New workd though since the people in the holding area get interviewed by phone.
Anyway, as I thought, with the addition of the extra 1000 OPP officers and reduced number of protesters the police arent just blocking, they are penning and arresting.
Oddly enough nobody us commenting. And I suspect the reason is they are looking for some people in particular. Or, like i indicated above, things are planned and the cops discovered the plans and just did a big vacum of the area in question.
I am sure we will know more by tomorrow. Lot of people caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.
    You aint in Kansas anymore.

  33. So Stephen, just wanna know….
This bureaucrat was out protesting, for…?? Let me guess- this isn’t near good enough?:
    -better that average remuneration
    -35 hr work week
    -5 wk vacation
    -job security
    -sick/personal/family days off
    -medical/dental/fitness/educational plan
    -‘team-building’ bullshit
    -bloated pension
    -early retirement
    -union ass-covering of incompetence
    -etc, etc, etc.
Or was it something about oppression of gays, muslims, homeless, the unemployed, stay at home moms, farm animals, or AGW, BP, PMSH, or hell, the TML (Leafs),
Yeah, I can fully understand him being out there adding to the problems of his employer, and all the innocent victim storeowners, residents, etc of the mob. Why didn’t he just stay home and out of the Effin’ way?!!

  34. Harper is to blame because he knew the peaceful protests would be taken over by rabble rousing vandals.
But Syd Ryan and the other protesters are not to blame because they’t couldn’t have known the peaceful protests would be taken over by rabble rousing vandals.
    Or something like that…

  35. Recently retired bureacrat.
Just his politics leaned left. What can I say, he sees the world differently than I do. Nice guy.
The point wasnt so much about his former job, other than he was clearly an “innocent” or “legitimate” protester. It was that he got a warning when his wife wanted to go Starbucks. He was told not to since “action was about to take place .” and starbucks was the initial part of the action plan. There was more to the plan about doubling back with the goal being getting to the fence.
I suspect the fact these plans of triggered action are out there partially explains the mass detainment tonight.
As another example of signalling watch this video….the cops do a great snatch and grab, but explain why the guy puts on and removes a black baseball cap. Signal? The cops grab him just after that.
Make no mistake, the Black Bloc are pros, and my suspicion is there were a number of enablers for them and useful idiots that unknowingly helped them.
    http://www.breitbart.tv/riot-police-nab-g20-protester-after-he-taunts-them/

  36. “If the U of T governance structure and campus security were doing their jobs”
    Ha ha! Too funny!
    Stop! You’re cracking me up!
(By the way, if the Toronto electorate doesn’t send Miller packing in the next mayoral contest, they really are chumps.)

  37. Stephen said: “Make no mistake, the Black Bloc are pros, and my suspicion is there were a number of enablers for them and useful idiots that unknowingly helped them.”
Yeah, like the whole upper management of the postie’s union, the government employee’s union, the teacher’s union and whatever crap outfit Sid Ryan is in charge of?
The black balaclava brigade couldn’t have been near so bold without that handy union parade to hide in, eh?

  38. Snagglepuss: Why didn’t he just stay home and out of the Effin’ way?!!
After reading Steve Paikin’s blog, as well as Michael Coren’s comment for today, I would say the same thing.
So many innocents out for a stroll on a night of mayhem are outraged at the police violence.
Steve pronounces “An Awful Night for Democracy in Toronto” and says it was scarier than the war zones he has covered in Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia, Lebanon, and Israel.
    I just bet!

  39. As usual the media come out of this looking like the biggest scum-bag, dipshits of all… Cheerleading the mob on, focusing almost exclusively on the “protests” while ignoring the actual summit, repeating the statement “fake-lake”, over and over again, while smirking behind their desks and hoping that somehow they can, blame the behaviour of a few professional shit disturbers on PM Harper. All this, in order to manufacture the illusion that nothing was accomplished by having the summit in Canada in the first place.

  40. “Lot of people caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
“So many innocents out for a stroll”
BS. Majority of people in GTA knew that going downtown on weekend is a BAD idea. The only ones going downtown on weekend were protesters or curiosity seekers. As for the protesters……some people went downtown specifically to make mayhem.
It is also funny how media claim police is violent,as opposed to peaceful protesters (I assume). PAH!

  41. I had to laugh out loud at one large female being released from “jail” and loudly complaining there was no food available for the time she had been detained. Maybe she should eat less and think more.

  42. A question for those traumatised, while innocently attending the riots in TRANNA:
Part A… What is the recent history of “protests” at such events say in the last ten years?
Part-B…What do you ( with the superior brain humans are supposed to have) expect to experience in similar situations, say going to a zoo and entering the lions den?
I know I know, the pot sorta clouded things,I guess….

  43. I note that you quoted the little monkey, mayor Miller but did President Obama have anything to say about the violence?
