If this guy wants to ‘be there’ for his grand children he needs to shed about 110 pounds, pronto.
Honestly, no matter what a New Jersey Politician says, he or she in only a New Jersey Politician.
This guy could have been on The Sopranos.
The universal message is profound.
If I were an issue oriented voter in NJ, I learned nothing.

Maybe because you only watched six minutes of a speech that was how long and covered what else?
More please.
AtlanticJim
I watched the above linked video. On that I base my comment.
Syncro
What this man says is not profound, you or I could have easily done the same, but few politicians are willing to state the facts as they are. And the people of America, once they make their minds up, will do something about it; moreso, I’m afraid to say, than Canadians.
DirtFarmer
That has been posted at SDA some time ago. I like what New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has to say, how he will accomplish this feat is more interesting.
Other than that he’s nothing more than another empty suit we all have heard of.
Syncro
Then, than, them, there, their….
Syncro
freedo, I don’t get your comment. What’s with the personal on the weight? I thought the most important thing was to listen to and consider what he is saying.
Personally, I think he “nailed it”. Waiting for 49 other Governors to figure out how to essentially make the same speech, since they all essentally face the same problem (“Arnold, have you seen this? Time to start drafting your version of the same speech. California is waiting.).
Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg “address” was preceded by what was deemed, at the time, to be the formal commemoration of the national cemetery at Gettysburg by Edward Everett, a renowned orator of the time and the President of Harvard (need I say more in terms of the ironic contrast with Barry, Woodrow Wilson and the culture of intellectual facism?).
The day after, to his credit, Everett wrote to Lincoln, “I should be glad if I could flatter myself that I came as near to the central idea of the occasion in two hours as you did in two minutes.”.
Bravo Chris Christie!
Yes he nailed it and from what I have read, he is making the difficult decisions that our politicians need to make. I truly hope he runs for President… and finds a good personal trainer to keep him healthy!!!
synchro…I get your skepticism.
Christie came on strong, and when he ragged the media guy for being thin skinned I fell in love with him.
However…
How the heck will they get rid of big government and overtaxation? What’s the plan? How can they turn the ship around?
And where have we heard that before?
bluetech
I think the last time was with the big eared fella.
Syncro
I was thinking more this side of the border.
I’ll be interested to see what happens if the deficit issue ever gets addressed in a tangible way in the U.S.
Until then it’s just hot air.
As governor he has some limited room to move. He can essentially defund many if not all new programs and negotiate tax cuts and spending reductions.
More importantly he has four years to get the new jersey populous behind him an be at the head of the vanguard for the state congress and senate members to get behind and back and vote for those spending and tax cuts.
And on that final point he has done excellent work thusfar – witness the video above.
He is talking and acting like a leader – a leader who believes what he says and who is in the right track to resurrecting the State of new jersey. I wish him godspeed.
As a very important side benefit he is showing other reform-minded republicans the way / the language and tone to use in being the leader of reform. In his own way he is a Reagan of our era – there may be more than one – Pawlenty and Daniels also come to mind.
“talking and acting” being the key words.

That guy is very inspiring. I have read the comments from people who are skeptical and a bit cynical about him. To them I ask: Who would you rather vote for? A guy like Christie who is actually talking about turning the ship around or the alternative, who are right up until present day denying that there is a problem and refuse to acknowledge the wrong direction.
What does Christie have to do? Keep doing what he is doing. Inspiring people with that exact message. Pound it into people’s heads so that the next time they have a choice they won’t vote for a socialist weasel like Obama. So that the next time the people in New Jersey will be able to spot him coming and know him for what he is.
I’d say his past record stands for itself, he’s been quite effective thus far, his past record is very public knowledge, he hasn’t spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to keep his past hidden, he speaks without a teleprompter, the New Jersey Bar still recognizes him as a practicing lawyer, so no, I don’t see much in common between him and the other politicos as of late… He’s stated that his concern is being effective this term, not being re-elected next term. So, swing that budget axe! http://www.state.nj.us/governor/about/
Syncro, I have a littttttle bit of faith in politicos still… just a little. 🙂

IMHO this man is nothing more than a chunky version of the one. For the same reasons.

North of the 49th?
Iffy hands down.
Syncro
Syncro the difference between this guy and the big eared fella, is that this guy just ran 7 minutes without a prompter and did not say “um” or “ah” once.
Christie is a great communicator, a true communicator, and that is where it must start.
He will be able to achieve his goals if he can get the broad electorate to believe in and support his vision.
And its clearly a vision he beleives in because he does not have to read cue cards or a telepromopter to remind him what he believes in.
This guy has more guts in his little finger than exists in the entire Obama administration.
Obama and his like ARE the problem….not the solution.
Then lay down the policy. Specifically. Anything else is bullshit. IMHO.
Syncro
freedo – I know that you posted so that you could see how fast someone would remind you that you are an asshole. I’m proud to be the one to tell you that you are not only an asshole but a “vacuous asshole” at that.
Your welcome!
Here’s what’s not “bullshit” about Christie: he’s gone toe to toe with the Democrats in the legislature and their union allies in a thoroughly vicious NJ state budget battle, and they are finally conceding its passage. He has been unyielding under ridiculous pressure from the NEA and other public employees unions. In the political reality he inherited, that alone is a revolutionary act.
That guy is way fatter than I had originally thought from shoulder-up shots. Way fatter. On the bright side, he doesn’t want other people to pay for the tonnes of food he eats.
If you want to hear Chris Christie, just before the election that made him Gov defeating the uber slimy Jon Corzine. See if you can get the interview up with Don Imus. must be a podcast on WABC. Christie is really funny, very sharp, to the point and clear in his message. No pay increases, keep spending to inflation, no tax increases, but tax reductions. He has done everything he said he would. When he wins the battle with the powerful teachers union he will be famous, and he will be correct then, as he is now.
He is a interesting guy.
I stand corrected. New Jersey will probably prove out to be the very birthplace of honesty in political messaging.
Syncro
The unions are ganging up (literally) on him and he has only himself to go on. Good for Governor Christie. Unfortunately it’s illegal for us to contribute.
I like this guy too. He’s doing everything he can to help out business in NJ, particularly the food industry and, soon to be, manufacturers of artery stints.
My apologies, the should be artery ‘stents’. Without the addition of 300 excess pounds, I don’t concern myself with the terminology nearly enough.
My good friends, quite wealthy, left New Jersey after retirement mainly because of its incredible high taxes. People with money can and will move and they are the ones that are needed to fund governments like New Jersey or Ontario. Good luck to Governor Christie, he has a tough fight ahead to control the unions or New Jersey will be the next California.
Speedy, that column on schools where the teacher’s give and mark the tests is exactly what Ontario’s teacher’s unions want. Amazing how a 96% pass rate is now revealed as a 90% for language and 67% for math fail rate under independent marking.
Yeah, so the guy is fat. At least he doesn’t expect his fellow citizens to pick up the tab for those stents, unlike his opposition.
“I’ll be interested to see what happens if the deficit issue ever gets addressed in a tangible way in the U.S.”
That would involve scaling back military spending.
Early this morning during breafast in Winthrop WA, an older couple at the next table (participating in a antique car event) struck up a conversation with me. They’re from New Jersey. To my question about Christie, they told me he was the REAL THING — that he probably doesn’t care about a second term, and that he means business.
Like a few commenters above, I was initially extremely sceptical, but I think maybe I was too cynical, too early. I was a bit put off by the 100% conviction rate he had as a prosecutor, which had me wondering about the number of people falsely convicted.
This clip had me thinking he is 100% sincere.
My God, Jose, you are an idiot, did you know that? Have you ever even looked at a single year’s budget summary, or do you just parrot your favorite talking points?
Defense spending is less than 30% of all Federal expenditures -including Afghanistan & Iraq- and is one of the few Constitutionally-mandated programs in the budget.
Maybe if those idiots in D.C. would quit jacking up the domestic spending every other year in order to buy votes, we could make a start at controlling the budget. It doesn’t help that President Barry has cranked the deficit up to over $1 trillion. Per year.
{smacks forehead} Whoops, I forgot! It’s all Bush’s fault.
If this guy wants to ‘be there’ for his grand children he needs to shed about 110 pounds, pronto.
