“Would you watch a Fox News-like channel in Canada?”

A poll that may not go horribly wrong, but we can give them a run for their money.
Update: It has taken just 90 minutes to shift the poll results from 15% “yes” to a near dead heat. SDA gets results!

  1. THIS STORY HAS NOW BEEN BURIED. It used to be easy to find, two hours ago,but now you have to search for it.The comments from the original link which were going at a brisk pace are now dead. Check out my post at 6:17 p.m. for the links. We can hit 90% in favour, but no one outside of this place will ever know. FIRE.THEM.ALL. If you go to the CBC website, stop and write a note to the ombudsman,it may help,… nah it won’t,but it may make you feel better for a bit.

  2. ET: “I’ve watched CBC and CTV and can empirically claim that those stations are ‘equal fantasy’ and ‘equal denial’. Now, I no longer watch either.”
    ===========================
I canceled my cable subscription a few years back and put my TV in storage because they are ALL nothing but garbage. CTV is worse than CBC as it is all about sensationalizing everything.
But at least I’m not forced to pay for CTV anymore. Not so with CBC. CBC supporters are fond of saying it only costs $XXX (whatever) per capita, but they neglect to consider that the per capita includes a big slew of under aged children and others who don’t work (stay at home moms for example, full-time students, etc.) or pay any sort of taxes that amount to more than a hill of beans.
For those of us in the workforce, our taxes are paying for a lot more people than just ourselves.
Privatize it or can it altogether. The days when Canada “needed” a public broadcaster to reach remote, isolated communities is long gone, thanks to technology. Time for CBC to face the 21st century.
And oh how I’d love it, if Fox news bought into a Canada television network. The lefties would have a complete meltdown which would be a joy to behold.

  3. Why would CBC even ask the question about a “Fox news like channel? If the someone wants to start a tv channel surely they have the right to do so.

  4. If the CBC really only has 700 dedicated readers we win because they have all voted no.
    56%-44% (908-700)

  5. Listen up people, stop the cheering. We are being scammed.CBC has taken this story down the rabbit hole. It will not be on the National tonight. It will not be mentioned again on CBC,unless we fight the bastards. If required,I have the original pags saved, and I’ll even swear out an affidavit(couldn’t resist).

  6. Mikey, it is right wing blowhards like you that seem to represent the conservative party and that is why Stevo has such a hard time cracking a majority govt. The majority of Canadians are left leaning centrists who don’t trust the CONs, don’t want any changes to social policy regarding abortion, government funded daycare etc. can take or leave the CBC, and don’t really give a rats ass as to the “law and order” mantra of the Idiot right. Look at the poor voter turn out in the last election, some people just don’t give a damn. You show your true colors with your little foul mouth. Wash it out with soap. However, in the true fashion of a right wing blowhard, scream, pound a table and yell obscenities when some leftist has cracked your nuts.

  7. Although I would watch (and trust) a conservative news channel before I would watch or trust the CBC, I would pick up a book before I watched any news on television.

  8. The only problem with the concept is that FOX News is really no different from CNN (Chickenlittle News Not)or (Certainly NOT News) …. the difference lying mainly in the feature programing.
The news presented throughout the day is more often than not just as thin and prefabricated as the loser networks.
Otherwise … I’m all for ANY news network that does more than propagandize for the left and act as PR firm for the LPC (Larceny Party of Canada)

  9. I managed to vote twice in 10 minutes. And I suspect I can add many more votes without the system knowing any better.
I wouldn’t read too much into the results. All it suggests is that people who are voting in favor of FOX News wannabes just have more time to engage in multiple rounds of voting than people who are voting against it. After all, the people voting against it know this poll really isn’t going to determine whether FOX News wannabes are viable.
So, congratulations to all of you have voted multiple times to prove a point. You’ve proven your point. You have more time than the naysayers. Unfortunately, theres still no Fox News or wannabes on the horizon.

  10. I do not work for the CBC, but it would be a fine place to be employed. At least there one finds the kind of intelligence so lacking at Fox and SDA. The sooner the Liberals and NDP merge to trounce you neanderthal cons, the better. Two-thirds of Canadians know what true social justice is, and they want it – not retarded conservatism.

  11. “I just voted – it’s now 59% – 41% in favour.”
So did I. For the 5th time.
Hint: You can vote everytime you click on the link. Enjoy.

  12. “The majority of Canadians are left leaning centrists who don’t trust the CONs.”
T – The term you are attempting to try to smear the conservative party is the shortened form of ‘confidence’. Confidence is something the opposition likes to pretend the conservatives don’t have in the house. Make up your mind.

  13. LOL I get the impression CBC staff spend a great deal of time in the comments section? CBC is five years away from being shut down, it’s past it’s best buy date. My opinion.

  14. I can’t begin to tell you how much I enjoy FOXNEWS….I can’t think of a better way to spend $2.95/month.
And based on their numbers. I know I am not alone.
And T, it’s time to empty out your colon.

  15. If only CBC TV would have a one hour program with a right wing bias to balance the remainder of their left wing bias, they could nearly be forgiven.

  16. Hey, Wally, why do we care whether the story is on the CBC? We don’t watch it anyway… right? πŸ˜‰
I do,because I pay for it,no actually because I only have peasant vision. My point is that the CBC,which I pay for,and if you pay taxes you do also, has buried a story which did not play out to their agenda. They were quite happy with giving it play while their small audience was applauding them, but as soon as an alternate voice(SDA)voiced their opinion,it was buried. There has been outcry over the possible bias of this network. They have responded with an internal investigation which has cleared them. Forgive me for not making paragraph,I really don’t know how to(will take guidance).—- Their investigation consisted of their own analysis of the slant of their own articles. The major flaw in that is that they did not,and could not analyze articles that were not published by them. They set the guidelines and followed them to their natural conclusion. We are fair.Yes,we are. — Case in point. The coverage of Jaffer/Helena. 25 or more stories on this( I am being Conservative). They conclude that these were not biased, just the facts ma’am. Pablo and Judy, not biased, but only one article on either…. If you rant in your pub that Colonel Mustard boinked Miss Scarlet in the library with his lead pipe, and repeated this every day for a month, true or not,it will make an impression. If Professor Plum does the nasty with Mrs.White (I’m guessing at names ,I really don’t have a clue,I’m thinking kitchen wench) and it is mentioned only once, does that make the reporting of both crimes equal? Two crimes were committed, one was reported 25 times, one was reported once. The CBC contends that they are just doing the facts. That is the flaw in CBC investigating itself. FIRE.THEM.ALL.

  17. Fox News is a right wing organization only in the sense that’s it’s not a left wing organization.

  18. Why is the left so afraid of the other point of view?
They held up the American Fox as long as they could from Canadian cable companies.
Those who wish to avoid a free exchange of ideas, probably realize they cannot defend those ideas.

  19. It’s hard to imagine anything remotely Fox-esque in Canada. I mean, short of giving you, Kathy or me primo slots on the station, what passes as a conservative in Canada, anyway??
    RG

  20. The left has no fears – Fox was held up simply because a vast majority of Canadians have no desire to see the demented ravings of what passes for intellectual discourse on said network. The CBC provides better, less partisan and more level-headed news than the right wing spewings of Fox.

  21. Ahh T, if we’re such knuckle draggers, why do you insist on hanging around? Is it because negative attention is better than no attention at all?

  22. “I can’t begin to tell you how much I enjoy FOXNEWS….I can’t think of a better way to spend $2.95/month.”
Skype offers unlimited calls to anywhere in Canada for that much. Way better deal, I think, in terms of entertainment value and access to the truth.
    jus sayin.

  23. Yeah Kelly,T would rather close his eye and imagine sis was doing him rather than dad.

  24. I just tried voting a second time, cause I was skeptical of the claims that one can vote repeatedly. You can’t vote twice, you get a nice little message that says “Thank you, we have already counted your vote.” This is the same message as two hours ago when I inadvertently voted twice trying to figure out how to refresh the results.
Is this correction important, well not really but it does bug me when people mis-report.
So the results are more credible than one may be led to beleive.

  25. Ah…. I just hang around to get a rise out of y’all. You never fail to disappoint. Barring anything intelligent on TV, baiting you earnest fools is the next best thing.

  26. It’s obvious to me…the 15% were home collecting welfare, the remainder came home after work. Nouf said

  27. 1333 to 789 (63/37) when I added mine @ 12:12 GMT.
The problem in my view is not that there is media bias, but the straight faced lying about having one is the sin killing the legacy media.
Even FNC is vulnerable in this way, but only because they are much closer to the center, as compared to all the rest, do they appear biased to the right. Like the “conservative” Prime Minister, on a good day they can see the right from their house.

  28. “The left has no fears – Fox was held up simply because a vast majority of Canadians have no desire to see the demented ravings of what passes for intellectual discourse on said network. The CBC provides better, less partisan and more level-headed news than the right wing spewings of Fox.”
The fellow/gal who posted this is a poster child for the totalitarian left in Canada.
They have controlled the media for 50 plus years. They own the educational system. They control the legal system.
When a contrarian point of view is raised, they react.
    With a censor’s reflex.
    The game is over.
The net has broken the monopoly.
    Dinosaur media will inevitably follow.

  29. Why pay Skype?
Google’s Gmail chat and / or video chat is solid and totally free!

  30. Louise:
It’s pretty easy to estimate CBC’s market share. Just go to the Bureau of Broadcast Measurement (BBM) site (bbm.ca), and you’ll find down at the bottom of the links on the left hand side the “Top 30 TV programs for the week”.
I peruse this from time to time. During the playoffs, it’s not unusual to see the hockey games in the top five or ten. During the regular season, HNIC usually makes it into the top 10 each week. But for news programs?
CTV’s nightly news (the 6-ish version) usually pulls in about 1.3 million viewer. CTV’s late night display with Count Floyd draws slightly less, at about 1.2 million. Global National draws just under a million.
CBC news? It rarely shows up in the top 30, which means it is is outdrawn by, say, America’s Funniest Home Videos, which has less than 800,000 viewers. CTV and Global combined draw about 3 times as many as the CBC.
700k viewers in a country of 33M works out to just over 2%. If there was truth in advertising, their slogan would be “CBC – 2% of Canada lives here!”.

  31. The maz2 Don Newman link is un-beh-eff-in-leave-a-bull !!
Surely even CBC Newman isn’t that stupid. His password must have been hacked or something.
And to think that I used to ssppfffit watch him a few decades back πŸ™

  32. wallyj @ 7:39 re: paragraphs
That big key (reverse L shape) at RH side of keyboard does it.
    Not spoofing, are you?
