The USA should be proud of their President in promising this much needed humanitarian aid to Gaza. I am sure the shills for Israel will howl against this, as will all of the Israel apologists, however, cry me a river, this aid is needed. We should? I am an American taxpayer and this action infuriates me. We are in the midst of an economic meltdown with mountains of debt. We cannot afford to go around the world doling out “aid”. If you are so interested in co-opting the plight of the Palestinians, use your own damn money.

I suspect you’re posing this as a “gotcha” question, but my answer is an emphatic yes. The American people never signed up to be the world’s caretakers. We should have listened to Washington’s parting advice, “avoid entangling alliances”.

Aid to a strategic and traditional ally is not analogous to sending aid to an enemy.
Palestinians are accountable for their government who is in no uncertain terms the enemy of the USA, and America’s ally Israel.
Perhaps this isn’t an “echo chamber”, but instead a common sense chamber, and therefore most people intuitively come to the same position.

jus’sayin, you conveniently forget to mention why Israel gets $2.8 Billion annually from the US. It was the President Jimmy Carter’s chequebook diplomacy which also gave Egypt $1.3 Billion annually in military aid and approximately $.8 Billion annually in economic, humanitarian, and other aid.
The US is not by law obligated to give Hamas/Fatah/Palestinian Authority anything but they must give Israel and Egypt money as part of the Camp David Accords. Nothing to do with per capita funding what so ever.

Besides, you’re missing the point. If the average Israeli is earning USD 30,000 annually, why is the US taxpayer supplementing his income by USD 400. Incidentally, it is more than the US allots as aid for its own states – the exception being Alaska, which gets over USD 1,000 for each citizen. Michigan gets under USD 30 if I’m not mistaken.

I see. And the North Koreans are accountable for Kim Jong Il. Political groups do have a tendency to get on top and consolidate power (witness Harper’s PMO – the most powerful PMO since Trudeau). At what point do the people stop being accountable? And at what point do they end up falling hostage to the monster they created? Because I think it is fair to say that the North Korean people did support Kim Il Sung once. Suffice to say, they don’t have a choice now. Factor in Stockholm syndrome, and you have a real mess.
The question is when do we look past groups and look towards individuals. Western civilization is based on individual rights. Why, then, should we be pumping money into a state that really doesn’t need any, while complaining about some necessities thrown into an impoverished region. I somehow doubt that US Aid to Palestine is handed over to Hamas. It comes in the form of medicines etc that are handed over to NGOs like Red Cross et al to administer. You’re missing key facts about this whole thing.
But please, don’t let that distract you from your belief in, and support for, collective punishment. Collective punishment has worked a treat in the past. Its a pity enlightenment thinkers concluded that collective punishment can lead to mass atrocities. They must have been wrong. The people who suffered the collective punishment deserved it. I would agree with you collective punishment does not work. Uh… I said that? I said the US need to cut back on spending and first should be foreign aid. Borrowing from the Chinese to fund Israel, Egypt, Gaza, Pakistan, etc., is a waste of money. By law, one has to pay taxes. I don’t see in the Constitution where it says Americans are obligated to fund foreign governments with aid money.

I interpreted this comment as justifying and supporting the 400b to Gaza if the other money is going elsewhere. If this isn’t the case, then my bad; and, I wanted to quote Busta.
This is bad, but not that bad. The US already sends billions to Egypt as a ‘peace bribe’ and gives tons of money to the UN, which in turn forks it over to the PA and other evil entities. The US also poison Israel with aid, which just makes Israel less economically free (as is the case with all aid recipients). There is a large number of Israeli intellectuals who think Israel should forgo the aid.
