Hey TorStar, You Campaigned For Him

Now is the time at SDA when we juxtapose!
Toronto Star, March 2008: “Obama would win in Canada: Poll”
Toronto Star, May 2010: “Along with the Star, reporters from The Globe and Mail, Canwest News Services and the Miami Herald were prohibited from returning to Guantanamo Bay when the case resumes.”
I know what you’re thinking – “Guantanamo is still open? Geez. That seems almost newsworthy.

1. Well aren’t we lucky he’s American and can’t run for office here.
Given his profligate spending habits, our deficit would be 400% higher and our economy wouldn’t be the envy of the free world.

2. “Well aren’t we lucky he’s American and can’t run for office here.”
I thought of a joke! Guess which current leader of the Liberal party sprang to mind, go on guess!

3. Anything the left leaning GlobeMedia conglomerate covers is tainted anyhow.
CTV’s “Power Play” host Tom Clark should declare a conflict with his Liberal MP friend as an example to remove the tainted political news shaping in general for that conglomerate entity.
The other two Canadian media are leftist by lineage and Khadr sympathizers historically, so no great loss of info from that quarter.
Admittedly I know nothing of how the Miami Herald would shape its story to the public.

4. The Red Star would bring Obama to Canada hand in hand with Poor Li’l Omar.
The Star is very progressive and forgiving.

5. Guantánamo was a stroke of genius. Not that the Bush administration was generally appreciated for its “genius”, but it was one of the few things that Georgie boy did right in reference to his War On “Tearists”.
Where else was the U.S. going to put POW’s, who weren’t really POW’s, but were a bunch of psychopathic mass-murderers who wouldn’t hesitate to use any weapon to engage in the killing of innocent civilians blinded by their religious zealotry?
I think Obama finally realized that Guantánamo was a practical solution to an immediate problem in the middle of a crisis. He’s finding out that being U.S. President is slightly more complicated than “Community Organizing” — i.e. calling up a half-dozen activists on the phone to see how they can apply for Government grant money to spend over the next fiscal year on their latest pet political project. Such as the cost of organizing “popular protests” against Bush’s Guantánamo.

6. Obama would win?
Christ, if Trudeau’s pup ran, he’d probably win.

7. “Shephard, the Star’s national security reporter, is currently on her 21st trip to Guantanamo Bay.”
She’s made 21,count ’em, 21 trips to Guantanamo!
The Star must have a pretty good idea of how well or badly the prisoners are treated, but I can’t remember ever reading anything positive in that Paper about Guantanamo.

8. This is ridiculous and an unfair ban and the Toronto Star will object strongly to it. Absurd,’’ said Editor Michael Cooke.
Well, stamp my feet and call me Miffy!

9. To hell with the left wing media. They’re vermin. Let’s just stop paying attention to them. No readers/no viewers = no revenue = out of business. M

10. Jammie McMaster, the 21 trips caught my eye also.
Based on the time involved and cost incurred, this probably means that in the Star editorial board’s assessment the Khadr case is THE MOST IMPORTANT STORY IN THE FREAKIN WORLD!!!!!

11. it is the most important story .
last time I did a search on CBCpravdas website. Khadr had 1400 stories. 1400!
we dont get much for a billion one a year.
CBCpravda ALL KHADR ALL THE TIME

12. Hummmmmmm…they shouldn’t ban them. Let them go down to Gitmo, then throw them in there as terrorist supporters. One can wish.

13. Why would they allow them to go to a facility that has already been closed? I mean, it must be closed. The anointed one said it would be a year ago, and he would never break a promise — would he?

14. If they’ve made 21 trips to Gitmo, in all likelihood they’ve spent more time in Guantanamo than Khadr has spent in Canada in his entire life.

15. Is it time to juxtapose Bush approval ratings 17 months in Vs. Obama ratings 17 months in?

16. Joe @9.58:
My old eyes played a trick and instead of reading “and Khadr sympathizers historically..”, I read (what is an even more accurate description):
“and Khadr sympathizers hysterically..”
Why do they keep resurrecting his photo at 14 yrs of age? There is something quite sick about the fascination they have with this young man, and his particularly obnoxious family.
What other alleged, or for that matter, real miscarriage of justice has received the same attention? Is this some kind of psychosis?
It is obviously widespread, if it is, because the alleged would-be Times Square bomber has many lovers in the media also. Funnily, both of the young men appeal to men as much as to women.
These good-looking young men are attracting what will soon be diagnosed as a sexual obsession. ;0

17. Kate Vit seems to think that a few of us are not worthy of comment. Me, bryanr maz2 just to name a few. If he is the person to decide who has a voice then your site is headed for the bottom.
How SAD

18. Story I’d like to see in the Red Star:
Due to the possibility of torture of prisoners under custody of Canadian forces in Afghanistan, the Liberal Party of Canada recommends the opening of a Guantanamo-like facility to hold POW’s in Afghanistan.

19. I agree with FREE @ 12:22. It IS OK, however, if you want to comment on his irrelevant picks for late night radio!

20. FREE: “Kate, Vit seems to think that a few of us are not worthy of comment. Me, bryanr maz2 just to name a few. If he is the person to decide who has a voice then your site is headed for the bottom.
“How SAD”
I’ve been wondering for awhile, FREE and Soccermom, if Vitruvius isn’t Kate’s secret weapon, her strategy, for getting out of blogging altogether. She’s been at it a long time, and it takes a lot of energy. She’s got the most successful conservative blog in Canada — which has stacked up very well alongside the U.S. blogs — and maybe, blog-wise, there’s nowhere else to go.
I don’t know. ‘Nothing personal against Vitruvius, but as I’ve pointed out before, his being a constant scold is most unbecoming.

Obama does not meet the Constitutional requirements to be POTUS either, he’s a fraud and most people know it.
What I want to know is why Jason Kenney allows an illegal usurper of the office of the President of the USA and a close friend of William Ayers(Terrorist), who visited Pakistan(terrorist training) during a time when no American was allowed legal entry, who openly practices Marxism, hides his birth certificate from all at a cost of two million and is destroying the foundation of the North American free market system into our country!
Galloway has less in the closet then Obama.
It’s a disgrace!

It would be a shame if your supposition is true. That said, I have no doubt Kate will speak to the issue if and when she feels a need to. She doesn’t seem to be terribly shy that way.
As far as Vit punting people from readers tips, so be it, he maintains the thread so I guess he can piss off whomever he wants.
As far as Vit enforcing a code of conduct on other threads, some clarification might be in order. Until recently I didn’t know Vit was the SDA bouncer.

23. The Toronto Star would like to think it speaks on behalf of all Canadians, hence the ludicrous suggestion that all Canadians would gladly vote for Obama. What insular thinking. I think the people at the Toronto Star would sooner tuck into a bowl of wax than even ask what anyone thought of that “American” cretin.

24. Kate Vit seems to think that a few of us are not worthy of comment. Me, bryanr maz2 just to name a few. If he is the person to decide who has a voice then your site is headed for the bottom.
No one but me has a right to decide who has a “voice” on this site. It is my property, not yours. Vitruvius (and others) have been given administrator status for good reason.
On uncounted occasions I have reminded commentors – who make up only a tiny fraction of the total readers here – that these comments are subject to rules. To assist you in understanding this, there is a bold blue reminder posted for you at the top of this form.
Those rules may be enforced only loosely at times, but they exist nonetheless.
So, you shouldn’t be surprised when one of us deletes an off topic link dump or cuts short a spew of forum-like chatter. THIS IS NOT A CHAT FORUM. IF YOU WANT A CHAT FORUM START YOUR OWN, OR GO TO FREE DOMINION. STOP WASTING MY BANDWIDTH.
If there is a single reason why I may discontinue blogging at some time in the future, the constant requirement to monitor and police people who abuse these comments repeatedly will be it. If there is a secondary reason, it will be the people who whine about it.
I don’t expect anyone to fully comprehend how much time is necessary to maintain a blog that averages 6 – 10 posts a day, in addition to answering email and supervising commentors. But, make no mistake about one thing: Vitruvius and the other guest bloggers are to be credited for extending the life of SDA because they help take some of the workload off,
and they do it for free.
This site is generously supported by readers, but it no way approaches a means to support myself.
If you don’t like that, then find a site more to your liking. To quote Flea: I AM NOT A PUBLIC UTILITY.

25. By the way, the remainder of the comments on this thread had better be directly related to the post topic, or I’ll ban the lot of you.

26. “Well aren’t we lucky he’s American and can’t run for office here.”
That didn’t stop MR. Ziffy Fred.

To Gitmo? Cripes, you got pull Kate…even the Tor Star can’t get in there!!!

28. “This is ridiculous and an unfair ban and the Toronto Star will object strongly to it. Absurd,’ said Editor Michael Cooke
You & the other idiots became this guys mat. Lied for him, diverted real information than created a phony Narrative that he was centralist.
Now you cry like a girl because you’ve been spurned. Boo Ho Toronto Star. Welcome to the REAL Obama World.
JMO

29. 21 trips to Gitmo! You would think they have beach and bar privileges there.

30. Can we ban them from Canada?? I hear Veneuzala is looking for more commie reporters.

31. It could not happen to a group of nicer persons. This banning from Guantanamo Bay. Ah, the freedom of the press and the rest of it. Unfortunately their two boys do not always measure up to expectations. Barack, a bit of a dictator at heart and Omar a nasty little piece of work.

32. Obama hoodwinked his supporters into thinking that as he gave his inaugural address, the transport planes would be flying the last of the soldiers out of Iraq and Afghanistan and tumbleweeds would be rolling through a deserted Gitmo
Suckers.

33. Well aren’t we lucky he’s American and can’t run for office here……Lol,what about iggy:)?

35.
Jammie McMaster, the 21 trips caught my eye also
Hmmm… Seems the Times Square Bomber also made frequent trips…funny how his immigration lawyer was able to hide those from the INS during his Citizenship process..Why has the press not reported who represented the terrorist, and why that was important to the INS
The MSM has an agenda that is not American or Canadian…

36.
Obama would just have to renounce his American citizenship [/qoute]SDH
SDH, That is the $64,000 question..How many times has Obama renounced his American citizenship? His book would suggest he did…
What Passport did he use to re-enter the USA after his youth in the Muslim world of his father…
What was his Status during College,.. grants etc
The INS does keep PAPER records going back many years………..
