I was one of the organizers of a campaign in the community I lived in to ask for parental consent when it came to sex ed: Parents who wanted their kids to learn about contraception, including coloured and flavoured condoms (the public health nurse had run out of “normal” condoms was her excuse), which brought up the issue of oral sex IN GRADE SEVEN, could have their children participate in sex ed at school, and other parents could opt out — and teach sex ed according to their family’s values at home.
Of course, the Board didn’t go for the parental consent, even though they always insist that they believe in “choice.” “Choice” is only for progressives.
