The minister of state for the status of women has been in hot water this week over admissions from two of her staff that they wrote a series of letters to media outlets praising and defending their boss without identifying themselves as employees.
Doesn’t this fall under new kind of politicsTM?
We just received this Letter to the Editor submitted by a Tennessee resident. It’s deadwood spam; turf mail. Google various parts of it and you’ll get the White House Web site, AARP, the American Chronicle, Democratic Women of Clifton and my.barackobama.com. Oh, and you’ll also get marketingofcampaignemails.blogspot.com.

Re: Astroturf endorsements for embattled politicians.
ACORN set the bar this low and CPC operatives are showing it isn’t low enough yet for nepotistic partisans to crawl under
“Ellen Ocran – the psycho-looking spaz from all the Ann Coulter protest pics in Ottawa – is on the government payroll!
Countless news stories last week referred to her as a concerned University of Ottawa student. A simple GEDS search however reveals that she works for Pat Martin – NDP member for Winnipeg Centre!”

This is ok for the followers of Taliban Jack and for the liberals who wrote letters of praise for Paul Martin and Jean-Jean.
Not OK for Helena.
Do you think this has something to do with the so called journalists at CBC and CTV?
Nah, couldn’t be.
Re: Slvanguy – Ellen Ocran mis-represented herself as a U o O student to the media. Certain sanctions should be applied.
Followers of Jack Layton, Paul Martin and Jean Chretien wrote letters of praise, but frankly, so what, who else was going to?
Helena Guergis’ STAFF wrote those letters of praise. That’s like brown-nosing the boss in the newapaper, big-time. Not OK for Helena.
I somehow fail to see your point terry. In a free society with freedom of expression, anyone should be free to write anything they want to the editor. It is entirely up to the editor to decide whether to print it or not and if it printed then it is up to the reader to decide whether to believe it or not. Personally I don’t believe much of what I read in the paper and certainly am not easily swayed by someone else’s opinion.
So a couple of staffers thought to puff her up online for their own reasons. Unless paid for it by Guergis. Don’t they have the right to push their agenda’s like the rest of us?
I not a fan of her either. I think she’s an elitist bitch, but hey it only my opinion.
This is just dumb.
By the way the people yelling about this with horror must think where a bunch of dummies on the web. They have no idea how netriders know deceit, hackers, cons, fake pictures, trolls, & all the other Web pests. Not least of all cyber ads. Being subjected as we are to it constantly. Its why most of us gave up on TV.
Most long time users are at the lest wary. At the most paranoid.
So a couple of staffers playing Pollyanna’s for their boss is superfluous.
JMO
The media is totally corrupt. It’s bought and paid for.
There is no room for independent thought or opinion.
The media’s role is not to report but rather to manipulate
and orchestrate a change to our society.
Guergis staff have every right to praise her in the editorial pages of the newspapers, but they should have the integrity to clearly identify themselves as members of her staff.
I don’t like the idea that a Cabinet Minister has staff whose default setting is “sneaky”, and I KNOW full well the other Parties have staff members do it too, AND I DON’T VOTE FOR THOSE BASTARDS!
When I was in the First Grade many years ago, we were taught things like “honesty is the best policy” and “two wrongs don’t make a right”.
Since when has it become defensible because “everybody does it”?
Have we fallen that far the last fifty years?
“Guergisgate” is just another in a long list of media defined “scandals” … I agree that “everybody does it” is not an excuse, but in the deranged minds of the MSM it is only a scandal when a Conservative, or non-socialist does it… “Guergisgate” is just the latest negative nothing story in the continuing media campaign of “all negative all the time” concerning the Conservative government. “Guergisgate” is only a “scandal” because the media in concert with their comrades in the Lib/Sep/NDP alliance say so, and the fact that this type of thing is most likely common within all political parties is quite willfully ignored. A perpetual double standard.
“Ellen Ocran mis-represented herself as a U o O student to the media. Certain sanctions should be applied.”
Did she? Or was she just a regular protester at a protest that happened to be on the U of O campus?
Theres a difference between a supporter writing a letter of praise and a staffer writing a letter of praise. If the staffer is on the payroll, the veracity and objectivity of the letter can be questioned since the staffer may have been ordered to project an image of his/her boss that he/she does not believe. Hardly rocket science.
“So a couple of staffers thought to puff her up online for their own reasons. Unless paid for it by Guergis. Don’t they have the right to push their agenda’s like the rest of us?”
You said it. “Unless they are paid for it”. It stands to reason that if they didn’t write these letters if she wanted them to, their employment by her could have been jeopardised. Fair bit of coercion implicit there, no?
Guergis deserves the flak shes getting. Her sense of entitlement, evident in her bizzare treatment of airport employees, is rightly criticized when a leftist commits it. I see no reason to spare her the criticism. She is a representative of the people, not their master. Being an MP is a privilige and there are certain responsibilities attached to it that she clearly doesnt care to fulfill.
Right on sigma. The only thing I could add is “ditto for Pat Martin”.
That’d be completely different from CTV od CBC having on air a handful of LIEberal party flacks to comment on government policies …. without once identifying those flacks connections to the LPC.
Completely Different!
More mistruth from U/Zero? What a surprise. As for Guergis arn’t you sick of her as well? I think the good people in her riding should do the right thing and find another candidate.
