That’s the real story, because once a “pollutant” (remember, we are talking about carbon dioxide, the stuff we exhale) is regulated under the Clean Air Act, it becomes subject to further and further regulation. The President will have the power (the obligation, according to well funded environmental lawyers) to regulate anything larger than a mansion — your small business, your office complex, your apartment building.
Get ready for the green police.

And this offshore drilling is yet another sop to them.
Meanwhile, Iran gets its nuclear weapon, while Obama pontificates about His Own Magnificence.

Sarkozy knows very well that Obama lives in a virtual narcissistic world; he said as much six months ago..but he wants something from Obama and so, he’s making these blatant lies in front of the public to ensure that Obama will ‘keep his word’. Heh. Obama doesn’t give a hoot about such talk.
So, it’s been two sops to the right to counter that one massive step to the left. Meanwhile, the henchmen of the Obama gang are busy painting any, and I mean any, criticism of Obama and His policies as totally and completely racist.

So offshore drilling is going to move America in the direction of energy independence but it’s not the answer to America’s energy problems.
Energy dependence on foreign sources is an energy problem that drilling is the answer to, but drilling isn’t the answer to America’s energy problems.

What is important is that Obama is going to build more nuclear power plants and permit offshore drilling.
That’s good.
America is going to get some jobs and have more energy, cheaper I hope, and some Democrat heads are going to pop.

What you are witnessing is far more sinister than simple hypocrisy or pandering to polling but vindication of Steyn’s analogy that conservatives can hold office but no longer govern. The Democratic congress under Bush would have never gone along with what Obama is proposing. Only the left are allowed to move the agenda in either direction. This is where “reaching across the isle” leads.
The solution, come November, is if the Republicans can take congress, end all bipartisan pandering, adopt one simple agenda – reverse big government in every way.

1. This and the new nukes announcement will be made conditional on cap and trade passing.
2. None of these projects will have their permits completed and construction started as Long as BO is POTUS – 2012 or 2016.
The GOP should insist that Cap And trade not become law until 50 drills have begun working and fifty nuke plants have begun construction – also their legal costs should be covered by the govt.

I agree with what ET said, except I believe BO holds to the Black Liberation Theology which is anti-American, but I digress. Furthermore, and I think ET might agree, that BO and R.Emmanual are not ideologically aligned with the environmental left nor the peacenik left, and are content to sacrifice them like pawns in the larger chess game. He’s doing precisely what I would be doing were I him. BO and his political practitioners are brilliant, if your measurables are results orientated.

the rule that the caller to DM was talking about was that the drilling will have to take place fifty miles offshore. Offshore of those islands (which are owned by the nature conservancy so the oilcos will have suffer to the PR beating of getting past them) fifty miles is on the very edge of the continental shelf an area that is often not very promising and certainly not where the OILCOs would like to drill.

I don’t think there will be any drilling probably in my lifetime. The environmental assessment will take years, followed by decades of lawsuits if they are approved. Long after Barry has been tossed out on his a–. Just another distraction.
