  1. Wasn’t there something about a $2500 BBQ car out there recently? Was this what they were talking about?

  2. Quite often car fires occur when people drop cigarettes in the upholsery. Has there never been a Chev or a Ford that burned?? My son in law is a fireman. Cars burn every day!! Especially when the payments are behind!

  3. I believe I read about the BBQ car. It was in India and poor bugger only had it for 45 minutes or so before it self destructed.

  4. “regular form of expression for disenfranchised suburban youths”: ho hum! Go back to sleep everyone.

  5. “suburban youths”
Love that euphemism. Much like the Toronto 18 who represented a “broad stratum” of Canadian society.
    Ahem.

  6. From above:
    Spontaneous combustion engine?

No, no, its called pre-ignition. A well known problem with infernal combustion engines.

  7. A better name would be the: TATA Fornow. as in when you walk away you say. Tata for now.
    mike

  8. Isn’t Tata the company Rajendra Pachauri works for? Is he going to buy carbon offsets for the smoke billowing out of each burning Nano?

  9. My 3 year old daughter has one of those. But hers is bright orange with a yellow roof. The front wheels swivel like a shopping cart.

  10. The Tata is sleek, rounded and rubber mounted so that it can slip under live hanging power lines without jolting the driver with high voltage.
Have you seen their street wiring?
The traffic carnage in India is among the highest in the world.
Slows booming population growth a little.

  11. Ok, I wanna put 245/50/R19 on the front and 285/35/R19s on the rear.
Dang, I think my 1973 Honda Z50 mini-bike had bigger rims. Probably had more HP as well.

  12. LOL. That one comment.
The modern Pinto without the rear-end collision.
That thing looks ike it would fit between the space of the dual tires on my truck.
The DOT might not approve of the “toe-jam” though.

  13. Tata is having a spot of trouble with their assembly plant startup due to some murky land acquisition hiccups that got the local farmers, malcontents, religious crazies, political tollgaters, and communists up on their hind legs.
For the moment Tata is reportedly farming out sub and final assembly to some of its subsidiaries and larger dealers using (export style) car kits which may account for some of the quality control “burning issues”.

  14. When I first eyed that headline in the Time Magazine article, I thought “Ah, at last. Our MSM is willing to report on the destructive consequences of Islamic migration into Europe.” But no, not a single mention of Islam. Just another report on what happens when you “marginalize” “disaffected” “youth”. (Sorry about the unsightly string of quotation marks, but that’s what happens when a fusillade of multi-cultural pieties is hurled your way. Disentangling them is difficult, and each one does merit its own set of quotes.)

  15. I can just imagine that car, three adults and the hill leading up to Tool Booth Plaza on the Coquihala.
They’d have to install a rope-tow for those things.

  16. I never understood France.
It should not be difficult to shoot car arsonists from an apartment window above. It’s not that rioting is happening quietly and covertly.

  17. That ugly and useless POS would fit nicely in the wheel well of a ’56 Buick Roadmaster.

  18. I want this little piece of shit to succeed. An Indian family in this car is like my Saskatchewan family in a Suburban. I feel sorry for people who drive cars like this in Canada because they are too poor or stupid to choose comfort and safety. Indians need a little slack here.

  19. I would still be cautious about purchasing and driving a car whose name is a colloquial refence to womens breasts.
I giggle every time I see or hear the name. Of course I still haven’t grown up yet.

  20. Despite western ridicule I think the TaTa will be a huge success much as its ancestors – the beetle, the topolino and the rambler were. All of those cars enabled lower class (lower caste?) families to have the liberation that car ownership gives. And with it huge societal impact maybe even huger in India where we are talking hundreds if millions of people and a much bigger gap between rich and poor.
And let’s not forget that all of the three vehicles noted above had a few problems of their own (personally I got to experience them in the VW and the rambler).

  21. I wonder how much “deadly” CO2, the flaming Tata released? At least when I drive my car and release CO2, I actually get somewhere.

  22. What the hell, for $2500 sure I’ll buy one! I’ve paid more for riding lawnmowers.

  23. Designed for the Paris market no doubt. Easier for the yout’s when they can’t find a match.

  24. Gord Tulk makes an excellant point here.
Henry Ford—-not the stereotypical “man of the people” founded his empire on the inexpensive Model T….the world’s first people’s car…..that put america on wheels….and transformed america forever…for good and bad.
I was reflecting upon this. Currently I seldom have any company….besides the committee(dogs).
The committee would be grieving losing their car-rides.
The point is this “car” is really to replace motor-scooters….hence crash/safety is not much of a consideration.

  25. Can you imagine the crash statistics in 10 years time? With cheap Tatas available to everyone, and Indian’s ‘peculiar’ driving’ habits?
My God, the carnage will resemble the Falaise gap on a good day.

  26. There’s a simple engineering solution to this, install a sprinkler system in every car, it can tow the fire suppressant in a trailer behind.
One question before I do the PC thing and buy me a Tata; where do I put the moose I’m gonna get this hunting season?
Oh, suppose I should ask if it come is 4 WD too.

  27. Red? Why don’t they just paint all of them cow-shit green? I mean, it’s not as though could disguise the intellect or the philosophy of anyone who would drive the stupid-looking turd of a thing.

  28. I think the term “show me your tatas” has taken on a whole new meaning. I prefer the original.

  29. Someone should tell Time magazine that pairing an ad for a car with a story on car burning is not a good idea.

Probably context sensitive advertising. The ad code sees the word “car” on the page and pulls an ad out of the box for the page.

  31. Justme – I LIKE Rita MacNeil – she’s a great singer and not afraid to be politically incorrect, weight-wise. I would, however, like to know how I would be expected to transport aged P – plus wheelchair – in this Tinkertoy/
