  1. Note the final lines of the article
“Similar rules exist for candidates in elections, records show scores of Conservative candidates have routinely recieved extenions after missing the deadline for paying off their campaign debts”
Scores of Conservative!! Now would that be 1? or 140?
Only a liberal rag would have such a play on words with No Substantial report as to what scores are & i might add this is about Liberal Leadership candidates!
I also agree with Pollieve more & more evident that Elections Canada is just another dept that has been shaped by the liberals…

  2. Pierre Poillevre is everything that annoys me about the CPC, even though I support it. Who does this assclown think he is getting on his side by complaining? No one cares about politicians getting a raw deal, and poillevre’s just making the government look childish and amateur. This doesn’t help us win elections. You’re just looking childish and paranoid. Grow up already.

  3. The only correct thing to do would be to declare the debt unpaid and collect it from the Liberal party coffers. After all, they’re doing so much better at fund raising now, aren’t they? It is an utter disgrace that Elections Canada and now the courts refuse to uphold the law and apply sanctions to Liberals who break the law.

  4. I wish there was a rule that bloggers like Bourque and Kate could follow that would make it mandatory to advise surfers of link destinations. When I click and Red Star or CTV News pop up I just hit reverse and go on down the road. Don’t waste my time please.

  5. Hey Sarg, just have to hover your mouse pointer over the link and the destination shows up on the bottom of the window in most browsers. If it has Star or CTV or CBC then don’t go. geesh!
So how does a Lieberal leadership loser fund raise anyhow? It’s not like they can promise Lieberal favours when they become leader anymore.

  6. Why do I get the impression that with even a majority government, it will take years to purge the civil service/judiciary of LIBRANO hacks.
The LPC is actually the BPC (Bureaucrat Party Of Canada).

  7. Exhibit A
This is exactly why PMSH and the Conservatives must use misdirection as a tactic regarding issues from AGW to Afghanistan. Is anyone surprised? There is no level playing field, so expecting a straight-up strategy or not bending the truth.
“If you’re not cheating, you’re not trying.”

  8. Some may find this interesting. I wrote EC about these financing shenanigans on Jan.19th. I asked for the amounts owing, and if there were any consequences for the loanerand/or loanee…The libs defaulted on Jan.1. The original story about the deadbeats appeared Jan.5th in the Ottawa citizen. The relevant page to penalties and more,”Registration and Political Financing of Leadership Candidates” is currently being revised,as of Jan.11th. It is still being revised.—http://www.elections.ca/content.asp?section=gen&document=ec90531&dir=bkg&lang=e&textonly=false— I received a reply in the 29th,which I posted part of it here BTW,and was told ”
At the expiration of the December 31, 2009 deadline, the leadership contestants applied to a judge of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice to obtain a further authorization to make late payments. Justice Kane of that Court issued a judgement granting the request for an extension until December 31, 2011. As such, the outstanding amounts of the loans continue to fall under on(e) of the exceptions to the requirement to pay leadership loans within 18 months of the end of the contest.”— So,basically ,nothing to see hear folks,if there was, CBC would have covered it.Business as usual.

  9. I just cant find this on CBCpravdas website. nothing, nada , zilch.
they do have their 1340th story on Khadr though. (Im not making that up- just put Khadr in the search box of CBCpravda)
CTVtass however is way out in front with over 4000 pages of Khadr.
CBCpravda All Khadr All the Time
CTVtass All Ridiculous All the Time.

  10. Elections Canada is supposed to hire ‘public servants’; by their actions the ‘servants’ have condemned themselves. They are not working for their employer (tax payers) they are hacks undermining us for the benefit of a political party.
Pierre Poillevre is absolutely correct to point out the obvious and the Liberano msm hacks have proved their bias also by not asking for and providing a list of the Conservative debt dodgers that they claim they have. The blocheads and the dippers with their Liberano pals should also have all the debt dodgers names posted so that the taxpayers of Canada would be informed about the shysters in the ranks.
We, the people, who extended this credit to crooks via our ‘trusted’ public servants should now fire all the servants and hire some that we can trust. The present Elections Canada servants have betrayed the public trust and are therefore a curse to the people who employ them.

  11. And what exactly is the difference between an unrepaid loan and a donation?
Posted by: DrD at February 3, 2010 4:57 PM
Answer: donations of that amount are illegal. We can’t have that now can we?

  12. I still think the lieberals owe the Canadian taxpayer the Adscam money. doesnt anyone know where we can find out?
would hate for one of those journalists like Don Martin to have to ask.

    Exhibit A
This is exactly why PMSH and the Conservatives must use misdirection as a tactic regarding issues from AGW to Afghanistan. Is anyone surprised? There is no level playing field, so expecting a straight-up strategy or not bending the truth is not playing to win.
“If you’re not cheating, you’re not trying.”

  14. And how many Conservatives have received extensions on extensions on extenions? Scores? None? It was an unbiased article except for the last paragraph where they had to imply apples = bananas to save face for their Liberal masters.

  15. Elections Canada oozes vendetta against the Conservative. Decades of liberal rule won’t be undone for decades and if Iggy wins the next election our civil servants will continue down the path of all liberal all the time.

  16. “it will require several majorities to cleanse our civil service of the lefties.”
    Yup
As an ex-civil servant I can vouch for the absolute panic and paranoia soon after Harper was elected in upper level management. Middle and lower were more sanguine.

  17. No “right” thinker worth beans would lower themselves to work in the snivel service. The only way to cleanse it of the lefties is to privatize as much of their work as possible.

  18. Take a page from the Obama playbook!
Just like taxing the surviving banks (who have paid back their debts with interest) to recover the TARP funds lost on the ones who are still on life support, we could simply tax the Party who won and who is debt free to make up the for party who lost.
Hey it works for America 🙂
Ok so it is always a crappy idea to make others pay for someone else’s commitments, why is that message lost on people? The LPC should be forced to file for bankruptcy protection and liquidate their assets, oh wait the party is worthless…
They can then re-open as the Liberal Party of Canada (2010)….

  19. Gus,I have been doing it for close to 18 years now. I suppose I am not worth ‘beans’… Unfortunately one of my earlier posts on this subject got caught in the filter, likely because of length. ..A timeline to consider,Libs become deadbeats again on Jan.1st. The Ottawa Citizen writes it up on the 5th. On the 11th of January,EC takes down their page on ‘Regulations and Financing for Leadership Contestants’,for revisions. It is still down. I wonder how long it takes for THESE snivel servants to add -‘not applicable to liberals’.

  20. Sorry wallyj, bad generalization based on my experience. I have never had the pleasure of dealing with any civil servant that could think past “the regulations”.

  21. Let us see now,
It looks as though there are few Liberals willing to part with their money to contribute to their dear leader.
On the other hand, it looks as though the Liberals are waiting to get elected, how else can they scam some cash out of the plebeians? Its nigh impossible, their seats being on the opposition side.

  22. “Elections Canada is respected and recognized globally as an impartial and fair authority . . . Elections Canada is trusted around the world to supervise elections,” Brison noted.”
See,they MUST be trustworthy, everybody says so.
Especially people who don’t live in this Country and see their dirty work up close and often.

  23. Oh let me count the LIEberal ways:
    http://www.lufa.ca/news/news_item.asp?NewsID=5399
199 reasons not to vote LIEberal…some of my favorites.
    HRDC boondoggle
    CSL favorable contracts
    Shawinigate
    ADSCAM theft
    GUN REGISTRY ‘shoot zem all!’
The public treasury according to the LIEberal lexicon is to be plundered LIEberally.
All for the public good mind you.
I’m sure the public service were wetting their pants when PMSH was elected. Hence all the recent static from Elections Canada wrt to the Conservatives while the LIEberals unrepaid loans can go on forever…ja vee get ze picture.
No bias there, nothing to see here, move along…
    Cheers

  24. dmorris,
I think they can run the mechanics of a fair election just fine. This stuff goes beyond the mechanics, and the contrast is important. The financing stuff is quite new to them, and they arent acting appropriately.
But like another commentator said, I dont know how much mileage you get out of it. I think you make the point that there are exceptions granted to one side again and again and leave it at that.

  25. PET Cemetery bull-etin: Cliches from the Separatist Coalition.
    1. “no stone unturned”.
    2. “in order to get to the bottom of this story,”.
“a meeting between legal and constitutional experts and representatives of the Liberals, Bloc Quebecois and New Democrats Wednesday.”
Separatist Coalition strategy session mulls(nice MSM word) the hoariest of cliches:
““I believe that Parliament needs to leave no stone unturned in order to get to the bottom of this story,” said Drapeau.”

  26. cal2:
Calling Scott Brison a “poodle” is an insult to canines. As we all know, he’s actually a pussy.

  27. Sorry, but I disagree with the tone of the post. The Liberals aren’t in power at the moment and they don’t have access to taxpayer money, so it’s unreasonable to expect that they’ll be able to pay off their debts any time soon.
I suggest that a little patience might be in order.

  28. It’s really unnerving to witness just how corrupt EC has become under the Trudeauvian jackboot. It’s a disgrace that a public institution has been so clearly infected with the Liberal (Trudeauvian) desease. Elections Canada is wasting away millions of dollars of taxpayers money in an ongoing incendiary open war against the Conservative party, with CBC cameras in tow, and doing so on behalf of the Liberal/Sep/NDP alliance. EC is acting like an agent of the Liberal/Sep/NDP alliance and not as a servant of the public. Yeah, the public service has been reserved for Trudeauvian cultists for approx. 40 years now, but for EC to be so brazen about their not secret agenda is really quite disgusting. A serious de-programming campaign or purging of this corrupted institution should be a priority.

  29. “Elections Canada is respected and recognized globally as an impartial and fair authority . . . Elections Canada is trusted around the world to supervise elections,” Brison noted.” dmorris.
Here is what the former Chief Electoral Officer in the Yukon had to say in the Whitehorse Star today, Feb 3, 2010. He is responding to a citizen that questioned the legitimacy of the Troika Trio (Libs/Dips/blocheads) staging a ‘coup d’etate’ on the people of Canada. He never even mentions fact that the de facto PM of such an arrangement would be Gilles Ducippe of the separtista Party, available only in Quebec!
I cannot provide a link because The Whitehorse Star requires a subscription to read their paper Here is a sample of Mr. Breker’s vitriol, aimed at a citizen, his employer:
“It is disappointing to see that Mr. Tone doesn’t care to possess education in civic matters, nor respects the young people who may have been reading the reckless, misleading diatribe.” (Yes the old gument hack does need English lessons – this is word for word what is written in the paper).
    He continues:
“He (Mr. Tone) claims that a parliamentary majority in December, 2008 constituted or supported a coalition agreement in order to ‘disrespect the democratic choice of the voter and illegitimately seize power’. In truth, our country was built on the idea of civic and public education of citizens that are grounded in the knowledge of where our country comes from. (Mr. Peter Becker did not bother to study English, he does end sentences with prepositions, use run on sentences and inappropriate personifications)…..”Too bad in Mr. Tone’s and Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s neocon party the head demagogues think they can write their own laws and facts.
Kicking around our constitutional conventions is an insult to Canadians….Before Harper, prorogation was never(!) used to keep a government in power that had lost majority support in the House. The citizen electorate elects Members of Parliament who in turn may support a candidate for the prime minister position (this from a FORMER CHIEF ELCTORIAL OFFICER; it gets worse) …the Governor General will charge the candidate with forming a government; and failing that, will call an election. The citizens do not elect a prime minister or a president in a presidential election like in France, for example – not yet.”

(former Chief electoral officer of the Yukon. He quit after the first Conservative victory: the local Liberano (Larry Bagnell) won that election, here in the Yukon). Canada Post threw Conservative brochures, with stamps, in the garbage.
All of the words in parenthesis are mine, the rest is word for word from Letters to the Editor.
Sorry for the lengthy post Kate, I thought that this was important.

  30. I have made a major error in my post @1:44 Kate and I would appreciate it very much if you would remove it. I gave Peter Breker credit for being the former chief editorial officer in the Yukon when, in fact, I was wrong. My sincerest apology for making such an horrible error. I thank you, in advance, for removing my odious comment. My sincere apologies to you, Peter, Dave, your readers and anyone else who may have stumbled on my comment.

  31. How DARE those mean-spirited conservatives say that the courts and Elections Canada are filled with Liberal party supporters! Just look at their behaviour!

  32. Just wonder if the interest is piling up at the same rate CRA dings anyone that owes taxes? Or if because they are ‘special’ there is no interest levied.

  33. USEFUL TECHNOID FREEBIE:
For Kate and those of us who do screen captures, Mozilla Firefox now has a freebie plug-in called Fireshot. This user-friendly plug-in captures either the screen visible area OR the entire web page and gives you the option to save as a jpg, and/or print, and/or copy to Clipboard, and/or upload, and/or e-mail and/or open in an external editor.
For those of us who use MS Internet Explorer, it offers the option to plug into IE as well.
I’ve had it for a couple of weeks now and it’s a very nifty plugin. Low memory and system resources load also.

  34. “Scores of Conservative!! Now would that be 1? or 140?”
Score(s) would have to be at least 40. Of course they could also be lying or illiterate.
