Hopenchangen!

With time for an agreement running short, His Eloquency brings all his prodigious diplomatic skills to bear…

UK diplomatic sources confirmed there had been a major setback after China took huge offence at remarks by President Obama over the need to independently monitor every country carbon emissions.
In his speech President Obama said: “Without any accountability, any agreement would be empty words on a page” – remarks the Chinese interpreted as an attempt to humiliate them, prompting Prime Minister Wen Jiabao to return to his hotel.

It looks like they’ve finally settled on who best to blame

“We’ve done what we can here,” a senior White House official in Copenhagen, Denmark, tells ABC News. “The Chinese are dug in on transparency and are refusing to let people know they’re living up to their end of the agreement.”

Andy Revkin is there on the ground and finally placing the word “Copenhagen” in its proper context;

Copenhagen insanity: Floods of reporters sprinting in opposite directions chasing rumors of Obama or UNFCCC press conference.

Whoops, maybe no presser after all…

1935 First bit of excitement here for a few hours. A rumour swept through the media centre that Mr Obama was going to give a press conference and almost immediately hundreds of journalists rushed through the Bella Centre into the main auditorium used for such events. Some 400 reporters and TV crews packed into the room but after about ten minutes two harassed Danish officals managed to get into the room to explain that no Obama press conference had been scheduled. Dozens of journalists left the room. Most stayed, just in case.

Oh dear.
Meanwhile, when you’ve lost Castro…. (link fixed)

UPDATE: Turns out the threat of a no-show was just a tease. Obama leave Hopenchangen without a press conference? Surely, you jest!
UPDATE 2; Looks like someone’s gittin outa Dodge …Obama leaving before final vote but feels “confident that we are moving in the direction of a significant accord.” Besides, he has to hussle back to DC before the blizzard hits.
And the money quote: “U.S. will not be legally bound by anything that occurred here today.”
Afterthought – As the One jets home to Washington, it’s ironic that Europe’s best hope for a weakened America turned out too weak to get the job done.

  1. Amazing all we heard was how the Chinese were so far ahead and embracing AGW et al. Seems they were not that sincere.
No here is a news flash for dumb-ass intellectual elites like Friedman, Krugman, et al they Played You! Then you told our leaders; see look they believe it too!! You made their case for them over and over leading into the talks, give your collective empty heads a shake!
The Chinese are embracing the fact that 500,000 wind turbines and 2 thousand sq miles of solar cells were going to be purchased by the west over the next decade from China in a race to the bottom under their legally binding targets coming out of this AGW global CO2 emissions nonsense … plus the reparation payments for climate justice. They do not give a flying rice bowl about AGW.
First Rule in finding the motivation is … Follow the Money and Power.
How can so many be so stupid and be in charge of everything? I am starting to doubt Darwinian Theory because that much stupid should have been breed out of us by now one would think, I mean since this “collective action and control” crap has been going on in different forms for a couple thousand years.

  2. “Goodbye Africa, goodbye south Asia
    Goodbye glaciers and sea ice
    Coral reefs and rainforest
    It was nice knowing you
    Not that we really cared
The governments which moved so swiftly
    To save the banks
Have bickered and filibustered while the biosphere burns”
    – George Monbiot
Hey, great song, George, even if it doesn’t rhyme. Now, who should we get to put it to music? Sting?

  3. ” … Harper and crew are wonderfully silent. They must know what trouble is in store for them if they play along with this idiocy. …”
No kidding , the $3000 per Canadian is the correct number , no sensible politician will try to sign onto this … especially when they realize the money will be transfered outside Canada !
Obama has foolishly created even more problems for himself. His radical left are angry because he didn’t get what they want , the right is pissed that he even went , and when the center spectrum realizes how much it will cost , then he really is in trouble.

  4. They have succeeded in composing an excuse for the preordained train-wreck.
I think the Chinese are the authors, OBOZO’s new puppet masters…..
……..blame OBOZO and OBOZO can blame China….
    sweet…..

  5. Is there a link or youtube for PMSH newsworld comments?
I will admit that I was one of the ones on SDA that was concerned about what PMSH and Prentice were up to, but a closer examination indicated that they were playing the cards close to the vest and avoiding saying anything that could set the media hounds baying.
Now.. defund the CBC .. or even better sell it to Fox.

  6. Nothing quite displays the full ignorance of you all as your constant mentions of ‘snowfall’ as though that disproves global warming.
You really don’t know the difference between weather and climate, huh? Yeah, we’ll be putting the future of the world in your anti-science, Flat Earther hands.

  7. bleet – if the earth weren’t flat, why wouldn’t I just tumble right off it, huh?
Also, why can’t we solve all our energy problems using batteries?
    Please explain.

  8. Who thinks O will ever go to Denmark again.
Next step for us is to tell our immigrations minister to refuse all applications from any country that dissed us in Copenhagen. Why would their citizens want to come to Canada, we are such a horrible country.

  9. Actually the Chinese representatives showed more courage than any of the Western leaders, in that they, rightly, refuse to relinquish their sovereignty. Why are our leaders so determined to relinquish our sovereignty, I do wonder. In fact it is only the West that is willing to hand over its sovereignty to the UN.

  10. How come when we have a nice day it’s global warming and when we have a cold day it’s weather?

  11. Snow storm climate ?
Yup. Pay back for years and years of the alarmist saying everything weather related was because of imaginary unusual warming.
    high water
    low water
    hurricanes
    mosquitoes
    ice age melting ice
Anyways, you get the picture. To list all the media fear mongering examples would use up all Kate’s bandwidth.

  12. are refusing to let people know they’re living up to their end”
the whole approach the current white house is taking with the Chinese is wrongheaded. and not the 1st time. not the 31st either.
the official should put it this way: ‘let people know they’re NOT living up to their end’.
you can be sure if the Chinese were in compliance they would let it be know. but the quote shows the mindset of the white house[ official] and is a common miscommunication with that vague fuzzy language of English.

  13. bleet, perhaps we should have Revenue Canada create a box on our income tax returns indicating that it would be optional for us to contribute a minimum $3000 directly to help combat ‘climate change’
This would allow some people to put their money where their mouth is. If they feel really strongly about the issue, they could contribute more.
All optional. Never a dime from me, but . . .

  14. People talking about this “one world government” thing should just stop – it’s really a tin foil hat worry.
Politicians are pragmatists. Nobody rational expected anything concrete to come out of this meeting – it’s all just fluff – non-binding agreements, ideal targets, etc etc
It’s all fun to watch, but just remember, it’s just for laughs, these meetings.
The real concern is whether the US’s landlord, China, starts to get a bit annoyed with their tenant trying to play tough guy.

  15. Good to see that yawner done and over. ‘No binding agreement’ means nothing will get done by nobody. Just more posturing. So if you’re a AGW skeptic, go and have a beer now. Business as usual has won the day.
The Green movement has discredited itself by putting so many of its eggs in the dubious AGW basket. There are other serious, real environmental problems out there that require our attention. Hopefully with this futile conference over, we can go and focus on them.

  16. GreenNeck – agree – a real problem is the great pacific garbage patch. It’s gross and probably not going to get any smaller. Probably arose from indiscriminate dumping from vessels – hmm – maybe from China?

  17. Bleet my friend,
weather is not climate unless its weather over a period of time and then it is climate, so in fact weather is climate on a different time scale…
    That Said..
It does not stop a hurricane, heat wave, drought or a tornado season from being proof of global warming now does it, or even a one year low Arctic Ice Extent being the harbinger of global catastrophe.
So how about when alarmists stop using weather as proof of AGW we will not mock them with current weather events to the contrary?
Can a lefty ever see the contradictions they constantly use are incredibly flawed arguments? It is rather sad.

  18. I sort of feel like Nelson Muntz here (haa haa) but Obama may have to stay a while, they are expecting two feet of snow in DC this weekend.
To quote the great philosopher Craig Ferguson (a Scot, apparently), “I know.”

  19. We won, damn it all ,we won.Whoever leaked or stole those e-mails and data,my hat is off to you. I hope you know how much you have done,my door is always open to you.

  20. Larsen:
You’re right, but how many polar bears died jetting these distinguished luminaries to and from Copenhagen? How many penguins bought the farm? How many Walrus bit the dust?
Oh the humanity! Oh the animosity!

  21. How many sheep? Like Bleet.
    Sheep bleet don’t they?
Too bad he isn’t Frog. Then he might croak.

  22. Bleet, I invite you to participate in a UN sponsored Zero Carbon Footprint Day. Get together with all your friends for a day of mourning, songs, and meditation. Err, no breathing allowed, please.
    I won’t hold my breath.

  23. bleet,
climate is an intangible, undefinable, unmeasurable quantity that lefties refer to when the weather refuses to follow their doctored predictions.
    cheers!

  24. Bleet you are and idiot.
I have lived in Kelowna, BC for 10 years, and without a doubt on average it has been getting cooler.
Weather and climate *are* related. After all, if they were not, why would the global warming alarmists care so much about a few degrees rise in temperature?
But it is not just my observation of the weather over the last 10 years that leads me to conclude that it has been getting colder. We run a commercial raspberry farm, and the fruit has been ripening later on average each year (we keep careful records, unlike the so-called climate scientists).
Also our apricot trees have not done well the last 2 years due to early frost, and 10 years ago they thrived.
You are the flat earther, not us. Idiot.

  25. I haven’t felt giddy for a long time. I can’t get the smile off of my face.
I would like to predict that we have seen the last of these ‘shake down the west’ gala events.
I don’t think the young commies and the ultra rich European control freaks whom they are unwittingly supporting will give up, but they are badly wounded as of now.
The word has worked it’s way down to the streets. Even the distracted members of our society are twigging to what really going and most of them will have none of it.
By the time Obama is done with America, they will want to elect Genghis Khan to straighten things out.

  26. I suspect this is pretty much the end of the hysteria. Still a lot of science to audit. Still some economics to do…but, in the end, today will mark the end of the AGW madness.

  27. Well, this may be the end of the AGW madness but what is the next madness they’ll start screeching about. No doubt it will be another scam to redistribute the wealth. I am growing so tired of the constant evil of the left.

  28. I agree with rabbit. The left wing AGW movement is severely discredited; they look like fools. Now the trouble really starts. Bleet-the people posting here are not “anti-science” and “Flat Earthers”; they are individuals who question the validity of agenda driven science.

  29. Obama smells a loser in the making in Climate change. Its time to employ the old “Throw them under the bus” trick . He so enjoys using to distance himself when a situation is uncovered the will explode.

  30. it’s ironic that Europe’s best hope for a weakened America turned out too weak to get the job done.
Yes, it wasn’t glory that The One covered hisself in. I think he will become a figure of derision amongst those that matter.
Meanwhile, the Iranians are testing him with an incursion into Iraq to take an oil well.

  31. I’m going to fire up those four hundred horses under the hood and go for a very long drive today to nowhere in particular.

  32. While I am not a huge fan of China…I give them the thumbs up for stalling this scam.
Now…can someone point in the direction on how to invest in Hanna Software? This is the same company Gore invested in that will make emission tracking software. Great groundfloor opp!. Who ever said Gore was an idiot? He has positioned himself nicely to reap the rewards of any move in the direction he has pointed the GW freakazoids! Operating as a stealth tax, cap-and-trade will make the vast majority of Americans poorer and less free — but Al Gore, Kleiner Perkins, Amit Chatterjee and Hara will be laughing all the way to the bank.

  33. There are more scientists, economists, engineers and otherwise usefully educated and productive people who read this blog and comment than there are pimples on bleetie’s butt.
This is the reality of the world bleet … you are useless …. the rest of us not.
