Note that our taxpayer funded broadcaster chose (at the 1:38 mark) to grace the interview with Saskatchewan Environment Minister Nancy Heppner with split screen film of oil sands mining and melting arctic ice, neither of which are located in Saskatchewan.
If they’re going to editorialize, would not lines of unemployed potash and oil field workers, stalled projects, and capped wells be more relevant to the interview?
Where are the real estate signs in communities hit by a regulatory induced downturn in the western Canadian economy? The farms forced into bankruptcy by skyrocketing fuel and fertilizer costs?

Maybe the Minister has never seen this Blog…but had she even done a little research…even reading page 11 of the November 19th “Western Seducer” would have given her enough info to control that interview.
Of course we all know that in such a scenario the footage would not have made it to air. So what to do…don’t even bother, it only makes them think they matter!
The pictures offended me the most. The clip shows the tarsands and talking about potash. You have to remember the minister did not see what was being shown, see just faced a camara and gave the interview. When she sees this the CBC may have access problems in the future. Isn’t that a CBC complaint about the PM? He ‘controls’ the media. No he controls damage best he can.
Maybe it’s just because they live in Eastern Canada that the CBC people are so annoying. It seems clear that sanity disappears the closer you get to Toronto or, even worse, Quebec. We shouldn’t even be going through the farce of the Copenhagen talks. We need to stand behind our Prime Minister in saying Enough. Jobs are far more important than the environment. You can’t live on clean air alone!

When you call yourself a conservative government and allow a distinct Ministry of the Environment and send that Minister to the largest enviro-hysteria, klepto-statist flustercluck the world has seen, you are playing a loser’s game. The Minister was apparently cheerleader for Copenhagen, albeit without the large red pom poms that Carol McNeil would have preferred.

Dear Mr. Carlin,
I object to the fact that our national news service has taken to editorializing during news segments, while using inaccurate and misleading footage. In this segment (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyYGYotImEI&feature=player_embedded#), a newscaster interviews Saskatchewan environment minister Nancy Heppner, who has been seeking emission breaks for Potash development. The story seems straightforward at first, except the video shows footage of the Tar Sands development in Alberta, juxtaposed with video footage of melting arctic ice. This is editorializing, plain and simple. The fact that the footage is deliberately misleading is disturbing.
I live in Ontario, so I guess I can’t get too upset if the CBC wants to attack politicians in Saskatchewan, but this is political activism and it’s being done on my dime. This is unacceptable. I think that CBC newsworld should issue an apology to Ms. Heppner, and a clarification to their audience.

Here’s the letter I sent:
Dear Mr. Carlin,
I am writing to regarding the broadcast of an interview with the Saskatchewan environment minister aired today on News Now with Nancy Heppner
I believe there have been several infractions of the CBC own code of conduct and journalistic standards which will be outlined below.
From the Journalistic Standards:
1. “Accuracy
The information conforms with reality and is not in any way misleading or false. This demands not only careful and thorough research but a disciplined use of language and production techniques, including visuals.”
The story is labeled and announced being about tax breaks for trade sensitive industries, please let me bring your attention to the tag line captured below which shows “Sask. would benefit from as second biggest oil producer” however the story continues on to speak about the potash industry, then environmental responsibility.
This is inaccurate and misleading about the content of the story.
2. Integrity
The information is truthful, not distorted to justify a conclusion. Broadcasters do not take advantage of their power to present a personal bias.
Around the 1:38 point of the clip the split screen is moved so Nancy Hepner takes of one third and in the rest of the screen shots of melting ice, polar bears, oil sands mining are displayed while the minister is speaking about what exactly her province is doing to combat climate change. This breaks not only the above point about accuracy because Saskatchewan does not extend into the Arctic it portrays a well established bias by the CBC that anthropegenic global warming is fact, rather than the theory it is.
The above portion of the interview is not in line with the CBC’s own editorial standards because it is displaying a message, global warming, opposite to what the Minister was speaking about, being environmentally sound.
Please inquire into these obvious breaches in this interview.

Two days before the fall legislative session ended, Heppner introduced Bill 126, “An Act respecting the Management and Reduction of Greenhouse Gases and Adaptation to Climate Change,” and went on the news to say she was serious about getting it passed before the end of session.
What a joke.
According to the news at the time:
“The centerpiece of the [Sask Party] plan has been a deal with the federal government that would allow that [carbon-tax] money to stay in the province even under a national cap-and-trade emissions system.”
“At this point, however, there are no federal regulations — and no deal.”
What a surprise.

Sort of like how non-existent potash revenues were to be the “centerpiece” of last March’s spend-happy budget, taking the province to a billion-dollar deficit.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, Wall backed away from the nuclear reactors they’ve been championing for two years, while opening the door to taking the nuclear waste they’ve said for years they’d never accept.
Wall’s government couldn’t manage its way out of a wet paper bag.

Curious? – I’m unsure what this MacNeil looks like, and if she’s from CBC I wouldn’t because I don’t patronize them. In fact I see it more here on SDA than anywhere, and it’s been years since I saw Annette Benning, though I think she’s married to someone I should know, but forget who. Is that the blond talking to the minister? Is this a good thing, or bad, or just a thing you have fro Annette Benning?

The government has basically announced that its long-term energy plan for the province is a mess, and that it has no idea what it’s doing over the next decade regarding climate, energy or the rest, including budgeting and finances.
Why would anyone–left- or right-wing–be happy with confirmation that the government is working without any sort of plan?
UG. Nancy must have been hit in the face a few times since being elected. That outfit is as drab as Ms Hathway’s from the Beverly Hillbilly’s, and about as colorful as black and white TV. I just gotta ask, does the nose come with the glasses? Stop by Paris on the way home and pick up some good taste, fashion sense, and perhaps maybe a hoot or two in Amsterdam to loosen that flag pole up yer @$$.
