Someone should tell Potash Corp. about supply and demand curves. A message from Sask. government that reallocation of mining rights or “royalty” fees for disuse will be reviewed for failure to mine at high potash prices would do wonders for motivating Potash Corp. to stop acting monopolistically.
What a coincidence! I emailed Vince just this Sunday (or Monday) about whether the CBC “documentary” footage of an anviro-nut group illegally occupying Jim Flaherty’s constituency office following them through their planning, training on how to resist the police, committing the crime, their arrest and removal, and the aftermath (all done in a sympathetic tone) was supplied by the charged criminals themselves, or if the CBC was embedded with the criminally-charged “activists” and failed to inform the police about the planned crime.
I guess Vince doesn’t have to worry about his job future.
I’m more insulted by all our politicians treating AGW as a “fact”. All they are doing is giving the journalists shilling for the IPCC cred. After the mountains of evidence come out in recent weeks about how iffy the science is, you’d think they’d be jumping at the chance to pull back from global agreements. But no, the vid finds our Sask Party minister talking the talk of an AGW believer, giving the pics of melting ice credibility and confirming the AGW stance of the CBC … it’s the polician in this case whom we should be rageing at for they just gave the CBC the green light for being green.
If it weren’t for US, Australian, and some UK politicians, who are far more courageous than our own phonies here in Canada, the IPCC would rule the day. Our conservatives have been bullied, cowed, and shamed by the IPCC and greens. While the pics of Tar Sands and Polor Bears are inappropriate, I find conservatives simply mouthing the international line even more offensive. What weak, pathetic, rudderless dupes with a cast of snivelling supporters (us) letting them get away with it.
Unless of course, the notion of global governance gives them all a thrill up their legs … after all, PM Harper is a staunch advocate of global financial systems regs and transnational authority to oversee those regs. Do we really know whom we’ve elected?

Global National did the same earlier this week. As the reporter in China talked about the horrors of CO2 pollution, there were scenes of water vapour coming out of stacks and brown air in Beijing. All that was missing was a drowning poley bear eating a cub.
Perhaps the government could hire a former GM/Saab executive familiar with the processes involved in winding down useless money pits. Advice on how to sell the CBC’s hardware to China and sell the buildings for top dollar should be worth plenty.
No, don’t shut down the CBC. Simply “retask” it to a new conservative viewpoint. Change everybody behind and in front of any camera or microphone. I’d gladly work on writing the news stories, editorials, etc. as I’m regarded as too ugly for TV work.

How many people have been to, say, maps.google.ca and tried to find the oilsands? I’d like to see a Rick Mercer style “Talking to Canadians” that has a laptop and gets people to do so, then gives a took at, say, Toronto or Montreal at the same scale. These people have no clue just how much actual real estate we’re talking about.

The only time I get any CBC (Calgary Bubblegum Company) spew is here, as well. I removed all CBC connections, to my TV, years ago. I confess I use it for watching my Maple Laughs (actually they’re more the Leafs lately) but that is all.
If nothing else, it does continue to show what we’re up against and to keep the “fires of reality” burning. But at what cost? Not worth the $’s I’d say.

It looks like Sask has a pretty good representative in your Environment Minister, Kate. Calm, well spoken, answered questions effectively. The split screen shots while Ms. Heppner was listening to the interviewer were not flattering (compare the camera angles for each person).
Aside from the irrelevance of the icebergs and polar bears to the discussion, the worst thing about it was that the pictures began to show just as Ms. Heppner was talking about things that Saskatchewan is actually doing to reduce emissions. Most viewers sitting in big city living rooms probably watched the photos and didn’t listen at all. Was this a live interview?
If I were to offer any criticism of Ms. Heppner it would be simply to ask why she agreed to talk to the media about speculation. A complete waste of 4 minutes of her time. Hopefully she at least asked beforehand what the interview would be about.
I think that Mr. Prentice and Ms. Heppner and others are doing pretty much all they can to minimize damage to Canada’s economy that may result from this circus. I would bet that whatever public statements they make, they are making effective points about reality to the right people in the back rooms. PM Harper has been very low profile in public but he is probably doing the same thing. And don’t forget, Mr. Prentice has been handing out some ‘hot air’ awards of his own.

Our elected representatives seem to have a love affair with this grotesque entity which serves no purpose other than to be a Liberal cheerleader and, in the process, urinate away a billion plus annually.

China’s electrical generating capacity has tripled in the last 10 years, from 1,070.09 billion kilowatt hrs in 1997 to 3,042.31 in 2007, that’s been fuelled by an increase in coal usage from 1,450.4 million short tons in 1997 to 2,892.7 million short tons in 2007. Canada’s total electrical gen capacity, for comparison, in 1997 was 557 billion kilowatt hrs and that went up to 613 in 2007, coal usage is same pattern, 57 million short tons to 62 million short tons. Note that China’s increase alone from 06 to 07 was over 300 million short tons of coal, over 4 times the size of Canada’s annual usage. Forecast out to 2030, http://www.eia.doe.gov/oiaf/ieo/excel/ieoreftab_7.xls shows that China is going to double it’s coal consumption again in the next 20 years, with most of the developing world following suit, global emissions will double, or more, and it’s not us doing it. That’s brand new capacity too, new power plants are not going to shut down, not unless something comes along that is cheaper than the kilowatt hour coal costs now. So solar, hydro, wind, tidal, biomass, etc are all not going to do it.
The world is going to be dealing with emissions from the developing world over the next 50 years that are going to far outstrip anything that we have seen for emissions before. Last time I checked, over 1.8 billion still don’t have access to electricity, and they are not going to care about the environment or emissions until they have time for that luxury, and are not just struggling to survive.
And that’s going to happen regardless of how much money our government agrees to throw at it in Copenhagen.
Reality can be such a drag.

Conservatives every where need to learn how to take control of an interview when they consent to one. If they don’t have the guts …then don’t go there!!!
There is no doubt that a big majority of Nancy’s constituents reject, (and are aware of “ClimateGate”) and in no way, would approve of the ministers apparent acceptance of the “settled science” and or the lack in courage to confront the assumptions peddled by the CBC.

I once got Carol McNeil angry at me when I was asked to appear on the Newsworld show she did w/Evan Solomon to talk about – of all things – the death of Anna Nicole Smith. I thought the whole thing was pretty silly, and at the end I mused that Smith filled a “whore-shaped hole” in our culture. McNeil exploded – she made me repeat my remark, and spluttered that she didn’t know WHAT I was talking about, clearly offended that I had even used the word that, frankly, everyone was thinking.
I have met smarter animal companions.
With the exception of the occasional Canucks game on Saturday nights, I do not watch the CBC except for what I see on SDA. That said, I appreciate these egregious abuses perpetuated by Mother Corp being highlighted here. Thank you, Kate.

Dear Mr. Carlin,
I write to you, yet again, about bias and propaganda put forth by the CBC under the guise of “news”.
I direct your attention to the following interview with Saskatchewan’s environment minister, Nancy Heppner:
Specifically, I would ask you pay particular attention to the segment starting at the 1:38 mark. At that point in the interview, the screen is split with the minister relegated to about one-third of the screen on the left. The two-thirds of the screen remaining on the right are then used to display alternating images of Alberta oil sands activity, and melting arctic ice shots. Of course, no melting arctic ice shot would be complete without a shot or two of a polar bear.
My specific complaints are thus:
1. Last I checked, Saskatchewan had no oil sands development or activity. The use of file footage of oil sands production while interviewing a Saskatchewan government official was inappropriate.
2. Last I checked, Saskatchewan is a land-locked province. Footage of arctic ice and polar bears was not only inappropriate, but also completely illogical.
3. With respect to the ice and polar bear footage, this footage can only reasonably be described as propaganda, a fear-factor, if you will, to scare and titillate the uninformed CBC viewer. No self-respecting news organization would debase itself by inserting such footage during a live interview. I also wonder, was the minister advised such footage would be aired while she was answering a question? It is doubtful the minister would have approved.
4. Once again, CBC shows its Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW) bias in accepting the theory as fact. No mention is made of the unfolding Climategate scandal and the significant doubt that has been brought to bear on AGW theory as a result of the scientific skulduggery that has taken place among prominent climate “scientists”.

I think it’s pathetic the way the CBC keeps spouting the liberal-marxist propaganda. First there is no evidence that proves the climate change theory. Second, even if it warms us a bit before the Lord’s return I have no complaint with that. If some natives on some tiny island in the Pacific want to whine about sea levels, let them. Far better that they whine than we slow this economic recovery. Thankfully we have the Conservative Party in Canada which maintains some balance and perspective.
