    It would be great to have Quebec separate. As a western Canadian I would vote in favor of it in a nano second – If they didn’t want any concessions from English Canada in the divorce & only claimed rights to non aboriginal lands in the current Quebec territory! (Which is by the way is a huge part of the province landmass).
    Anyone who wishes to succeed on their own, should be able to be self sufficient, no? (Mom, Dad I hate you and I’m leaving forever! Could you please pay the rent for my apartment for awhile, and maybe throw some groceries in while you’re at it? Please…………”

  14. Now it can be told! As we approached Christmas two years ago, Canada exceeded its EU quota! Canadian cheeselovers were desole’. No Camembert for Christmas! But the Quebec cheesemakers stepped in, and all was saved.
    The Quebec cheesemakers are indeed formidable. You name it, they can do it – well. Cheddar, as good as any from Ontario. You want a nice surface-ripened cheese? After “Le Demon de midi”, which I am eating as I type this, you’ll never even look
    at a French cheese again.

  16. When I grew up in SW Ontario, nearly every farm was a dairy farm and small cheese factories doted the land.
    Then the Ontario Government (Dairy Branch)entered. The larger herds disappeared due to harassment by the “milk inspectors”….the little guys cheered…..until they came for them.
    Next thing we were trucking Ontario corn to Quebec to feed dairy herds and pigs…..
    Basically they shut down Ontario’s dairy industry and created one in Quebec.
    Railway infrastructure/servicing was moved to Quebec—like the CN car shops in London or Air Canada’s maintenance was moved from Winterpeg to Montreal.

  24. What is the price of butter in your part of Canaduh? Its $3.49 in Calgary at the Superstore, I know its $2.67 at Superstore in Toronto, I was there last week. Anyone, the price in your town?
    Let’s make a comparison across Canada.
    I have a real hard time justifying paying exhorbitant, government regulated raw milk prices for over-priced cheese, or butter, let alone just milk prices to prop up a few Quebec dairy farmers, just to placate a few Quebec politicians.
    Just about every province has farms and farmers, don’t they? So, why are farmers prohibited from producing dairy products whose current prices would bankrupt a single mom supplying her kids with milk and cheese, one of the building blocks for strong healthy bones and teeth?
    I’m not a single mom, but I’m just asking.
    Right now I’m boycotting dairy products that originate in central Canada and some other stuff thet we produce out west. I buy western produce: Manitoba/Saskatchewan eggs, BC processed meats, local canned tomato products here in Alberta and Hutterite chickens, among some of the items.
    I read the labels before I buy and if it says made in Quebec or even Ontario, I don’t buy it. I especially will not buy pasta made in central Canada, as we produce most of the durum wheat that goes into it, right here in western Canada.
    Frankly, I think that it is high time the ROC slapped a few politicians around where it comes to preferential legislation on food production and sales that dissadvantage producers in one part of the country over others.

The ‘new’ Yukon liberal crowd who were imported to replace miners and productive people who were run out of business by a Dipper outfit in the 1980’s; do not ‘mind’ paying $4.99 for a pound of butter because you southerners pay their paper shuffling saleries and lavish perks – via fed transfers- gument workers make a minimum of $23.99 per hour and get northern living perks, free flights ‘home’….poor old me, I work for private co and always have…I am pretty vocal when I see corruption…sooo I can’t afford the butter but when I buy, I buy Western Canadian because it creeps out all the French Canadians who moved up here in the Liebral years.

  27. Yeah, I’ll admit that quebec can produce some quality products, however, as someone has already pointed out, the dairy industry in Quebec has been and still is a subsidized/propped up industry at the expense of the ROC. Gotta love those “marketing boards”.
    Anyone recall the outcome of buddy outside of Ottawa who got in trouble for selling eggs? Last I read about it the OPP were at the gate to put a stop to this illegal enterprise.

  28. Take it from a born and raised French quebecer who moved to Ontario 15 years ago:
    The pampering of Quebec’s every demand of the past 40 years has created a society so politically ignorant of how the real world runs, that I now call Quebec an ‘Affirmative action’ Province. The biggest ghetto project or ‘French reservation’ in the world.
    The only way to break this cycle is to stop the pampering and capitulating and face them head on. Stop masking and deviating the problem and expose it black and white in their face.
    I believe Quebecers are smart enough to analyse a problem and solve it. First though, you have to expose the problem.
    Separation would not ensue. Instead a much needed debate WITHIN QUEBEC would bring to light many symptoms and revelations which have turned into pure propaganda over the years.
    It’s Canada’s turn to become angry and intolerant and to push the issue until Quebecers take their place.
    Quebec would then fold faster than most English Canadians think.
    It is well pass time to do it.
    A Conservative Majority sans Quebec participation would be a good start and I hope Harper will add the new extra seats in Ontario, Alberta and BC to help make this happen. Quebec is already upset about this proposal which I say: GOOD!, MAKE ‘EM MAD AND KEEP THEM THAT WAY UNTIL THEY SMARTEN UP AND FINALLY CHOSE THEIR OWN DESTINY.
