Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

She has the most pure sweet voice I have ever heard. I could listen to her for hours.
Nice. I’m more impressed by the arrangement than I am the vocal however. She’s a very good singer, not a great one.
That was beautiful. Thank you, Kate!
Wow. She has a beautiful voice. She would have been famous a long time ago except for the fact that today everyone in ‘show’ biz must be good looking, good dancer, whatever in order to ‘make it’ on TV. To bad appearance means so much when it is so surface.
Her Voice is Awesome.
“She’s a very good singer, not a great one.”
I must not be a connoisseur of music. She sounds flawless to me.
Thank you Kate!
That is an excellent rendition of the song.
Thank you Kate.
I usually find these arrangements of rock songs kind of ‘glurgey’ but her voice really is nice and does this version justice.
Excellent! Although, my favourite version is still by The Sundays.

She appears to struggle just a little bit with the lower notes. But as the tune rises her voice just soars. Very human. I will be singing it all day. Thank You.
Susan has a fantastic voice, warm and thrilling. Her back-story has helped gain her attention (though it might well have backfired if she hadn’t pulled off that first dramatic and amazingly gutsy performance). I’m not sure what a voice needs to be in order to qualify as “great” but I’m convinced that she’s got it. Does she have a 5 octave range? No. Is she a coloratura soprano? No. Does she have a unique and beautiful voice? Yes. Her voice moves me and it has nothing to do with her history or because I felt sorry for her. Paul Potts, the other phenomenon, has a good but not great voice–especially for the kind of singing he attempted. I pull for him because I admire his dedication and because he’s a nice guy. Susan is in another class entirely.
Wow!
That’s beautiful.
Beautiful – and from an ordinary, unpretentious small-town, country girl. Go figure “Jackel”!
This amazing woman is the perfect comparasine to our world ..often times the silent majority look’s at these pretty people on t.v. and know that themselves are far better at what it is these people are doing be it media broadcasting ,govorning a country ,engineering stuff, singing ,what ever and every so often a woman like this lady slips through the crack’s to make an appearance on t.v. to remind the world that you don’t need to be a super model to have a talent ,you don’t need to be a cookie cutter human being to display an amazing talent …and so we the good guy’s came ,we saw ,we conqoured the singning world for a breif moment and humbled everyone ,but iti s a good reminder to all that as soon as you think your the best at what ever you do there is someone elseo ut there doing it better !! good luck ,as well i herd she withdrew from the competition as well becasue she didn’t want to be famous or the media would not leave her alone .
Paul in calgary .
It’s blasphemy.
That broad should not be allowed to sing anything by the Stones.
I hope Mick and Keith get their lawyers after her.
What a voice.
Bookmarked that one as well, thanks Kate.
Sorry but that is not a tune for her. She’s better suited to Celine Dion type songs, no disrespect intended.
Nice voice though, for sure.
Paul in calgary. I agree with you; whether one likes the song or not, the story behind the lady is compelling. Good on you Susan.
Nice…but it just didn’t grab me…..
But then her first performance was pure theatre….
The lead up…the reception of the judges—Simon rolling his eyes—-then that smirk/giggle—then wham—Simon reacts like he got tasered—
the audience on their feet within 20 seconds….
I especially liked the reaction of Heckle and Jeckle (stage managers) in the wings….
Pure theatre—a real reality show for a change…
A very good song.
Thanks for posting this, Kate.
This is her song. Beautiful. If it and Cry me a River (better than Ella Fitzgerald’s IMHO) are on her new CD, I’m looking forward to the other choices. A winner for sure.
Susan, you deserve it.

I am sure Mick & Keith will be sending her a thank-you note for the extra million or so in song writing royalties they will get off of her platinum selling album.
I love the sound of her voice.

it wouldn’t surprise me in the tiniest slightest if Mssrs Jagger & Richards popped by one day and personally chatted up this vocal sensation and thank her for sparking new interest in this tune and invite her to do likewise and make suggestions on something like “As Tears Go By”
and if it was all kept very low key that would surprise me even less. you people don’t know squat about the personal lives of entertainment celebs.
Mick and Keith are getting royalities off of this. Why should they object?
They are, first and foremost, businessmen. When you write a song, it makes business sense to allow others to cover it. That’s how you make money off of it.
Whenever I see a clip of Susan Boyle I plan to listen to a few secons and then move on but I am never able to turn her off. I hope she learns to deal with the publicity and continues to share her talents with us. All the best to Susan Boyle.

Her voice is very much better than this recording of her. Youtube absolutely trashes presence and dynamic range in its compression.
My socialist liberal spouse and I came together to listen to this lady.
Susan has landed on her feet- thank goodness.
Can’t wait for her first CD to come out. I love hearing new voices and hers is one I could listen to for a long time.
and for all you Stones out there:

showmen thru and thru.
It’s great to see and hear a true Cinderella story in these times of cynicism and greed. You just know that there are those out there just hoping she will fail in her belated search for acceptance. Her voice is good enough for this guy, and worth the money to get a few of her songs in my collection.
