Reader Tips

Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the third (Part I, II) and final special edition of SDA Late Nite Radio pursuant to that singular time in history forty years ago: Apollo 11. Tonight, for your delectation, here is Back to Earth ¤ (6:48), footage of Mission Commander Neil Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins, and Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin, supported by a cast of 400,000, sailing back from the Sea of Tranquility, Moon, to the Pacific Ocean, Earth, splashdown at 09:50 PDT on July 24, 1969. A Dream; Hard Work; Success. People can, and many do, miss the simple majestic beauty of the Apollo 11 mission, always finding something to complain about, and that’s sad, really, for them. Fortunately, to the benefit of our species, this singular accomplishment now forever stands as a beacon in the navigation charts for the pursuits of the human spirit.

Your Reader Tips are, as always, welcome in the comments.

Emissions from oil sands comparable to other crude oils
The Alberta Energy Research Institute (AERI) has released a pair of reports on the Life Cycle Analysis of North American and Imported Crude Oils… The independent reports demonstrate how greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the oil sands derived crude oils are similar to conventional oil production in some areas…

  3. Michael Totten has a fascinating and depressing interview with an informer on the future of Iraq. The logic of Iraqi’s is even more screwed up than your typical Canadian leftie…..
Michael Totten: What do people here actually think about the American forces? I hear contradictory things. They seem friendly on the surface, and there is a lot less violence now. So anti-Americanism must be somewhat reduced. And yet I hear from some Iraqis that 80 percent of the people in this area don’t like the American forces and want them to leave. So I’m not sure how to sort all this out.
Sayid: The American forces help people in this area, you know. There was a time when the militias ruled this area. They were shooting people. When the Americans came, they could no longer do that. The Americans secured the area. And of course anyone who gives security is loved. He is a friend.
But in the depths of their minds, no. They don’t have any love for American forces. They always say Americans are bad people. They know the truth, but still they say this. They know Saddam Hussein caused a big mess in the region, but they ignore that. They ignore the truth. They hang all the responsibility on the American forces. But American forces secure them, give them help, give them money, give them a job. All the people in Adhamiyah working for the municipality, the Iraqi Army, and the Iraqi Police is because of the American forces. And they know that. But when you sit with them and talk with them, face to face, Iraqi to Iraqi, they don’t say that. They say all bad things come from America. They ignore the truth.

As far as the “stinkin fans” link above, wind energy is a huge boon to the trucking industry. Usually the transportation jobs related to movement of nacelles/blades are at the very high end of the pay scale. Those jobs get reserved for the safest of drivers.

  5. Nothing would be green without CO2 !!
“Carbon is the building block for all life on earth. It provides all of the food and most the energy for the human race. Carbon dioxide is a tiny part of the atmosphere, yet it sustains all life on earth. It is NOT a pollutant. To be anti-carbon is to be anti-life and anti-human”. – Viv Forbes, Pasture Manager, Soil Scientist and Geologist
    Suzuki has always been anti-human.

  6. Fred at 10:28, 23rd. “The new Green is just the old Red . . . .” Not surprising. Gr**n Peace was started up to be an independent “Peace” activist organization. Independent from the U.S.S.R., that is. They sought private donations by advocating for animals (wales and wolves). Other “Peace” organizations were financed through the World Peace Conference (I likely have the name wrong) financed by the NKVD formerly located in Amsterdam and then Helsinki. When the house of cards came tumbling down, about 24 different “Peace” periodicals distributed in Canada disappeared.

(IsraelNN.com) Senior members of Fatah have announced that their group will never recognize Israel, and will continue to call for war against Israel. “Fatah does not recognize Israel’s right to exist, nor have we ever asked others to do so,” said senior Fatah member Rafik Natsheh, a close associate of Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.

  9. Father, Mohammad Shafia, 56, wearing a shy smile; mother, Tooba Mohammad Yahya, 39, dabbing her eyes with a tissue; and son, Hamed Mohammad Shafia, with an icy stare, were all charged with four counts of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
    . . .
The Shafia sisters – Zainab, 19, Sahar, 17 and Geeti, 13 – died along with Rona Amir Mohammed, 50, on June 30. Their car, a Nissan Sentra, was found underwater near the Kingston Mills locks. . .
Anyone know Zainab and Sahar’s middle names? The story doesn’t mention it.

  10. Saudi beauty queen Aya Ali al-Mulla trounced 274 rivals to win a crown, jewellery, cash and a trip to Malaysia, and all without showing her face
With her face and body completely covered by the black head-to-toe abaya mandatory in the conservative Muslim kingdom, 18-year-old Mullah was named “Queen of Beautiful Morals” late on Thursday, newspapers said.
Miss Moral Beauty pageant organiser Khadra al-Mubarak kept the focus on inner beauty, as defined by Islamic standards of Saudi Arabia.
“The real winner in this competition is the society. The winners represent the culture of the society and its high Islamic morals,” Mubarak said, according to Al-Watan.

  13. Yep, Alan and Rich, I think this is the biggest story today too…Along with the police tapes that could surface on the “BarryGates” scandal:
“…Commissioned by Rep. Darrell Issa of California, the ranking Republican on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, the report charges ACORN “hides behind a paper wall of nonprofit corporate protections to conceal a criminal conspiracy on the part of its directors, to launder federal money in order to pursue a partisan political agenda and to manipulate the American electorate.”
The report expresses concern that ACORN would channel $8.5 billion in economic stimulus funds through a criminal corporate structure designed to mask the distribution of public money to partisan activities, including voter fraud to advance the campaigns of radical Democratic politicians.
“It is undisputed that ACORN engages in politically partisan activity,” the report declared, noting ACORN was paid $832,000 by the Obama 2008 presidential campaign for get-out-the-vote efforts…”
For the whole story, Google: World Net Daily

  14. And the Rasmussen Daily Presidential Tracking poll (difference between strongly approve and strongly disapprove) puts Obama at minus 8 today, He’s been in the negative ratio since the beginning of July.
But today for the first time, the total poll of approval vs disapproval puts the approval at 49 and the disapproval at 51. Now this is statistically equivalent but it’s noteworthy that, regardless of the strong approval vs strong disapproval negative rates, this is the first time the total approval has dipped below the disapproval.
That’s in six months; that’s quite a change from Obama’s original plus 28 index and his original total approval of 65 versus 30.
I’d also suggest reading Krauthammer and Victor Davis Hanson today. Both are Pajamas Media.

  16. 4 “Boys” rape 8 year old girl, girl’s parents blame the girl, refuse her back. Background of parents believed to have been reason to shun an 8 year old victim…
Really, what is there to say?

“Authorities said Thursday that four boys ages 9 to 14 took turns raping an 8-year-old girl behind a shed for more than 10 minutes in what Phoenix police are calling one of the most horrific cases they’ve ever seen.
The outrage over the allegations intensified after police said the girl’s parents criticized her after the attack and blamed her for bringing shame on the family.
“The father told the caseworker and an officer in her presence that he didn’t want her back. He said, ‘Take her, I don’t want her,’ ” police Sgt. Andy Hill said.”

  18. Pelosi is apparently rabidly, adamantly, voraciously and etc..trying to get the Health Care Bill passed before the August recess. Why? Why the rush?
I’m speculating. I’m wondering if she sees herself as Obama’s Chief Sidekick; she’ll do anything for him. Is she thinking about being VP if Obama runs in 2012?

  19. Court: Your freedom from government is contingent on how much the government needs to ‘protect’ you
Hutterites need driver’s licence photos: top court
The Supreme Court of Canada ruled 4-3 Friday that a Hutterite community in Alberta must abide by provincial rules that make a digital photo mandatory for all new driver’s licences as a way to prevent identity theft.
The case involved the Hutterian Brethren of Wilson Colony, located east of Lethbridge, Alta. The group had argued a 2003 regulation enacted by the province requiring photographs on the licences breached their charter right to freedom of religion.
The top court rejected the claim.
“The goal of setting up a system that minimizes the risk of identity theft associated with drivers’ licences is a pressing and important public goal,” said Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin, writing for the majority.
“The universal photo requirement is connected to this goal and does not limit freedom [of] religion more than required to achieve it….”

  20. I usually dont do it but last night with the recent news from the Bank of Canada I had to turn on CBCpravda to see how it would be covered.
    I wasnt disappointed.
They start off with the statement from the Bank of Canada president . then they go to the streets of Windsor to get the opinion of down and out kitchen table economists. A ratio of about 5 minutes to one on the negative coverage.
sort of like going to the cafe’s of Andrew Alberta to develop oil royalty policy for Alberta.

  22. Ottawa — The Canadian Press Last updated on Friday, Jul. 24, 2009 11:37AM EDT
The federal government ran a $7.5-billion deficit in the first two months of the current fiscal year.
In his latest report on spending and revenue, Finance Minister Jim Flaherty says the figure compares with a $900-million deficit over the same period last year.
The report says revenues were down $2.6 billion in April and May, or 6.9 per cent, largely due to lower tax revenues from corporations and the reduced goods-and-services tax.
Program expenses were up $4.4 billion, or 13.4 per cent.
TD Bank said last month it expects Canada will be more than $172 billion in the hole over the next five years — double the government’s last budget projection of an $85-billion deficit.
And last week, Toronto-based economist Dale Orr said Ottawa will need a full decade of economic growth to eliminate the deficit, six years longer than the government projects.

  23. This quote about O’s comment about the police officer’s actions.
Talk about totally missing the points!
“I think he would regret if he realized how much of a overall distraction and OBSESSION it would be,” White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters. (Capitals are mine)
They just don’t get it at all, I suspect they wouldn’t get it if it was explained ever so slowly.

  24. “[Supreme] Court: Your freedom from government is contingent on how much the government needs to ‘protect’ you[.]”
‘hardboiled’ is obviously not worried about 1,000+ female Muslims hiding under their burqas or abayas and niquab having an ID card under the name ‘Aisha Muhammad’.
Explosives belt + burqa + annonymous ID = Perfect cover for entering a building and detonating yourself.
‘hardboiled’: if you’re so annoyed by “Decievin’ Steve (Brian Jean)”, go to the Libertarians or Western Block, m’kay?

  25. Speaking of socialist sh*tholes, there is ample evidence all around this very nation:
KEENE, NH (July 24, 2009) – Jason Talley and Pete Eyre of the Motorhome Diaries were denied entry into Canada while attempting to cross the border yesterday. Border officials cited an incident that occurred in Mississippi (in May 2009) where the crew was arrested and detained without cause.
The Motorhome Diaries is the story of two friends – Jason and Pete – who took to the road in the spring of 2009 to search for freedom in the Americas, chronicling their adventures as they travel throughout the continent. Both are united by one goal – the desire to increase individual freedom and decrease the influence of government in their lives.
The original itinerary included visits to Montreal, Windsor, and Toronto to meet with liberty-minded Canadians and share their message of peace and freedom.
During the crew’s attempted border entry, border agents and the K-9 patrol searched their recreational vehicle. They were filming as they neared the checkpoint, but border agents deleted the video and informed them that if they continued to film, record, or take pictures they would be arrested. Various items were confiscated from the vehicle, including computers and literature….”

  27. Kate, this story is growing…You may want to bump up yesterday’s thread which is nearing 100 comments (I know, I sound bossy like the O)…
“…President Obama, who targeted the Cambridge, Mass., police department with his comment that one of its officers acted “stupidly” in the arrest of a black man, has a history with the department dating from his college years to as recently as the launch of his presidential campaign…
…According to the Somerville Times in 2007, as a Harvard Law School student, Obama got 17 parking tickets during 1989-1991 from the Cambridge Police Department that he left unpaid until just weeks before he announced his bid for the presidency.
“In other words, as a practicing lawyer in Chicago, he allowed these tickets and penalties to remain unpaid; as an Illinois state senator he allowed these tickets and fines to remain unpaid; and as a United States senator he allowed these almost-two-decade-old signs of his disdain for the law to remain unpaid,” commented John LeBoutillier on Newsmax.com.
The Washington Post said two years ago that the tickets included parking without a proper permit and parking in a bus stop.
The Associated Press reported in 2007 that Obama’s “healthy stack” of parking tickets was finally paid, including late fees, “two weeks before he officially launched his presidential campaign…”

  29. Interesting.
I’ve noticed an increase in gun violence coverage in the MSM the last week or two. I believe the Dem’s are planning to assail the 2nd amendment, and this increase in coverage is the opening volley in the assault. I predict they will try to mortify Americans with a plethora of gun horror stories to soften the American public up; the more dead kids the better.
