Got to hand it to the girl. With one Friday afternoon announcement, she’s brought the bulk of America’s political chattering class to the brink of a psychotic break …
“When a guy’s built on celluloid,” Democratic State Senator George Moscone said, “he goes up fast, but he burns out quickly.”
I love this early-70’s quote about Ronald Reagan, and wonder what one can say about a guy who’s built on hot air.
Like the current President, who seems to have “speeched” his way into the White House.
Frum in the National Post is pulling for Matt.
Gee, I wonder what Dave will do when the “snowbilly hick” meme is replaced with the “Mormons are scum” meme? I wonder if he’ll be looking for allies even amongst the great unwashed masses that only serve the drinks at Beltway parties?
Oops. Typo of “Mitt”.
Good luck in her new endeavours. I have never witnessed such bitterness as that which was directed at Ms Palin and her family. Even bambam said the only advantage he had was time in the game. I think she can mobilize the American people to not just blindly accept the goings on of the current administration. Whether she plans to continue in the thankless task is up to her and hers but I hope she maintains a role in US politics. When I see some of the people in power there is a crying need for change.
I used to have respect for David Frum, but not anymore.
It is indeed a pity that the american public did not see the MSM/hollywood attack storm for what it really was….a berserk, panicked response to a really able candidate.
Really why would anyone put any credibility to Matt Damon’s opinion on anything?
Most of these people were as informed as the elementary school partisans of my youth. Those schoolyard pundits couldn’t tell an F86 from an Avro Arrow……
As far as the MSM, they have already shot their wallet….including Letterman and have lost their credibility while Palin’s teflon jacket is intact….while BamBam’s popularity is evaporating once leg-tingling euphoria disipates. Where is the birth certificate?
Read the democratic Palin reaction/remarks in reverse…it is actually an endorsement by the spin-meisters.
I remember the commentary when Ronald Reagan came in 2nd after Gerald Ford(?) in that bid for pres. candidate to the effect it was his last hurrah.
NOT !!!
this is why I find politics so fascinating.
The left hates her so she must be the real deal.
Her speech was an extension of her rhetoric up to this point: poor me! Those bad liberals make fun of me! The media made fun of me! So I’m taking my ball and going home! Wah!
For a party that claims to love rugged individualism and toughness you guys sure love your victims – and your own victimhood.
Why don’t you all join Sarah and stand in the corner and have a good long cwy about it?
Wah!
Sarah Palin personally, whatever. If she’s smart she will stay out of the sh1tstorm until her little kids are old enough to shoot back.
As an ideological candidate however, I am heartily impressed by the response from the “peasantry”, as Frum would no doubt say privately. Somebody with the gall to run on -less- government? More personal responsibility? Yeah, that I’m for.
Mitt Romney ain’t that guy. He’s George Bush lite. George Bush grew the US government more than any president before him INCLUDING frickin’ Bill Clinton.
If the US government doesn’t shrink by half or more in the next ten years the whole USA is going to be looking like California, where departments are almost going to war with each other for table scraps.
It would be nice to be able to take down the edifice brick by brick instead of have the whole thing fall on us. I say “us” because Canada is functionally a US state just like California, if not in name.
So if it takes Sarah Palin to git ‘er done, so be it. I’d prefer a whole stable of people instead of just one though. Let’s see some guys step up to the plate and spit in Big Brother’s eye, shall we? You going to let a GIRL beat you?
Stephen Harper, pay attention!
Palin’s speech WAS rambling and incomprehensible.
She scares the crap out of Obamasiah’s teleprompter.
On the plus side, we finally get a break from the Michael Jackson 24-7 news sideshow.
bleet, I’m surprised you didn’t make up some dark “running from corruption charges” thing.
You aren’t very good at this trolling business, are you? You should head back to rabble/babble for more lessons.
My own view is that she’s moving to Washington. I don’t think she’s in the running for the 2012 election but the 2016 presidential election.
I think she wants a 2010 Senate seat; that gets her out of the isolation of Alaska and into Washington. And I’d bet that the Washington crowd, particularly the left (who are obsessed with their own elitism) see anyone outside of Washington as a ‘peasant’.
As a member of Senate, she can network, be on committees and prepare for the 2016 election.
If she had finished her term as Governor, next June 2010, she’d be unable to run for the Senate. No time. And she couldn’t run, while Governor.
So, my ‘best guess’ is that she wants to move to Washington.
As for the vicious, malicious personal attacks on her by the left, this shows the left for what they are- filled with irrational emotionalism, jealousy and hatred for anyone outside of their control.
The fact that Palin is attractive, long-time married, a mother of several children who aren’t palmed off to nannies and daycare, pro-life, conservative – and plain speaking and not dependent on government handouts – the left can’t stand such an example of American freedom and independence.
The left are actually very anti-American (Obama’s constant apologies are an example). The left, as committed socialists, reject anyone who is independent, free-thinking and yet, deeply committed to the Founding Father’s basic view of America.
The left considers themselves The Elite Class and expect and support expanding dependency of them, in their bureaucratic role in government.
The maliciousness of the attacks on Palin, on her being a woman, a mother, on her children, show the left in their true nature as intellectually vacant, morally bankrupt and bereft of integrity.
Could John Mcain be her vice president?
ET, you nailed it.
The latte left’s mask has been lifted and it ain’t pretty underneath.
“Could John Mcain be her vice president?”
Hell no, he hasn’t defended her at all. He may have had balls back in the day, but this version of him is quite impotent.
Plus, he’s just a tad too old.
The other reason the left hated her?
She wasn’t the prototype of the left…you know, fat, overweight, cropped, rainbow coloured hair, multiple piercings, with a ‘partner’ on her arm.
I mean c’mon, she’s weird!
I wonder now who will be the american socialist media next victim to attack.
The media is so afraid of OBAMA that the media have nothing to report so they hunt for a victim to crucify.
At the end, it will be these very same media who will end up being crucified by the general public for the daily manipulation.
“stand back palin and watch the socialist media and their chosen one OBAMA crumble in their own mess.”
If she does stay in the game, just watch the attacks on her increase for daring to have a “retarded” child.
Scratch a lefty, find a eugenecist.
The same idiots who cry for gaia, would murder one her own while still in the womb. All for the crime of being “different”(so much for diversity). How on earth do these jerkoffs know that nature does not want these people to exist? Do you think that maybe there just might be a price to be paid down the road for messing with the natural order of things?
Keep up the good fight Sarah Palin! You are the only hope in turning the tide in this battle defending the most marginalised people in our society.(the greatest “human rights” fight in our lifetime, cuz the left wants to abort them out of existence)
PALIN/PEROT 2012!!!!!!!!!!
Thats whats really going on.
I hope and pray.
Sarah Palin will be a big boost for conservatives as a TV/Radio Talk Show Host. The liberals vile her, but she is much more believable and representative than Rush.
That being said, she is still too “fundamentally Christian Right” conservative to be elected President and she will be viewed as a “quiter” because of her decision to leave mid-stream.
The future of the Republican Party belongs in the hands of;
Mitt Romney – extremely smart, moderate with excellent business acumen
Colin Powell – the “spiritual, values, humanist” leader of the Party &
Joe Scarborough – a successful politician before the Morning Joe show and someone who can build a bridge between the right wing fundamentalists and the moderate centrists.
(I know this may ruffle a few feathers in the conservative northlands, but it is the way I see it.
Unfortunately Conservatism is dying out in the USA today (for a number of reasons) and it needs to rally around reasonable, sensible and reassuring leaders.
Frankly, I believe the multitude of frivolous lawsuits was not only taking the majority of her time, but also bankrupting her and her family. This is a woman who is not content to hold an office for the sake of the title – she’s a doer, and with all the legal wrangling she wasn’t getting the job done that she felt the people of Alaska deserved. Having to spend the next 1.5 years fighting these crazed zealots and getting further in debt just wasn’t her cup of tea. Don’t know how she put up with it so long. Anyway who claims she couldn’t take the heat is full of sh*t because I’ve never witnessed the type of personal attacks to a candidate and their children/family the way Sarah Palin has. I stand behind her decision and whatever role she intends to play, or not, over the next few years. In the meantime, since my hubbie is a US citizen, we will be contributing to the http://www.thealaskafundtrust.com/donate/ to thank her for her service to her country.
After everything is said and done, her, and the Party’s, political aspirations should take an absolute backseat to the responsibility of the executive position she accepted. Whether her Lt. is capable isn’t relevant. The Alaska electorate overwhelmingly supported HER candidacy and she’s abandoned them.
This WILL come back to haunt her, guaranteed. (Assuming she still has political aspirations).
Instances of (Canadian) Mayors quitting to run for Provincial office, MLAs quitting to run for Federal office, and MPs quitting to take cushy private sector opportunities, are just way too common. My new position: You quit a position you ran for, you’re dead meat in my book…I don’t care how talented you ‘were’.
Sarak Palin is to be feared. As are her supporters.
She utilized Swift-boat like efficiency to convince the Republican base that fostering a household where underage teenage sexual activity was routinely allowed but not aborting the illegitimate fetus was an heroic act of consevstive Christian values to be applauded longer and louder than any other ostensible act of Christian faith.
Be afraid, be very afraid of just how much chaos can be loosed when a ruthlesly ambitious yet essentially empty-head is placed on top of a political-body maddened to the point of a self-stated values-abandoning rage by anyone that dares to live in a way they deem as different, hence “wrong” and “dangerous” to them and their way of life.
Nothing is more vicious than a Pharisee! Be they Muslim of Christian, religious fanatics that display no true allegiance to the base tenets of that faith as they carry out personal agendas represented as absolute results of said faith are our final proof regarding just how dangerous “Men of God” have been over the ages.
It wasn’t just Christians being fed to the lions in the Roman Coliseums, but try to find a modern Christian who either knows or will admit to knowing that. Victims, in the end, are always more about themselves than others. As such, Christian victims prove just how decidedly non-Christian they truly are as measured by that score alone!
TV
Here’s a brilliant piece from the Huffington Post:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/paul-begala/sarah-palin-turns-pro_b_225633.html
“Saray Palin Turns Pro”? I wonder if there will ever come a day when a women can participate in politics without suffering a lot of a misogynist bullshit.
I’ll keep watching the news; the announcement yesterday leaving questions dangling just *might* have been bait to have all the media watching her today. After all, when better than the 4th of July for the announcement of a run for major national office?
“spititual, values, humanist, moderate, build a bridge, moderate centrists, Conservatism is dying”
ima, did your Mom work for the CBC?
“The other reason the left hated her?”
The root of why liberals hate Sarah Palin is she shatters the myth, all of them! Sarah Palin personifies all of the qualities that the victim brigade loathe; because she’s living proof that their claims of victimhood are false.
What I found most interesting about her speech was her repeated comment that “god put the resources here for us to use responsibly”. As an atheist I respect her view, and since I support her energy position it’s a non issue.
That being said, it’s obvious that secular liberals will despise these statements/beliefs and demonize her for them. What I’m interested in, is how will Christian liberals react; or is it liberal Christians?
TV, you forgot the Illuminati.
Sarah Palin does what she does. It is why (as ET pointed out) the elitist left hate her. Being constantly assailed must have taken its toll. I believe she is biding her time for a later date. This must freak people out.
Looks like Michael Jackson’s televised media frenzy memorial service is up against some stiff competition. Too bad. So sad.
Palin is not what scares thoughtful people. Sarah herself is a joke. What is frightening is that the political process is so malleable and the electorate so shallow that this non-entity is capable of being elevated to the pinnacle of power.
My prediction is that if she doesn’t join the cast of Republican has-beens on Fixed Noise, she’ll be playing Peggy Hill on a Broadway production of King of the Hill. After all, all she’s gotta do is act naturally.
She is what the left despises most of all, normal. We all do and say things that we look back at and say damn, I wish I hadn’t said that or done that, you know, normal.
The left on the other hand has everything scripted to the last detail and the last period on the Teleprompter, they have to, they are followers. I guess that is why they have so many protest marches, they can mindlessly follow, they know where they are going, and they have the time, most productive people don’t. The thing that always amazes me is how anyone in this life can look in the mirror and be proud of themselves when they have never had an original thought. But, that to me defines a follower, void of original or practical thought and anything resembling self esteem.
The visceral hatred of the left towards Sarah Palen told me one thing, she is the right person. Give her a little time and experience and she just may increase the length and number of marches of the following class. Normal practical people is one thing these green shirted stooges fear most of all, good on you gal, whatever your plan.
TV- you not only forgot the Illuminati, but lots of other mindless phrases as well.
I mean, you’ve got ‘underage sexual activity routinely allowed’ without a shred of proof; and an insistence that such offspring should be aborted because of illegitimacy. That reveals your lack of morality, where you consider that the only humans allowed to live are those that are ‘legitimate’; others must be murdered.
Then, there’s your description of Palin as ‘ruthlessly ambitious’ – again an evaluation without evidence; and an ‘essentially emptyhead’ -which is yet another description without evidence. I’d describe Obama with those phrases; and there is plenty of evidence!
Then, you’ve got the unintelligible phrase of “a political-body maddened to the point of a self-stated values-abandoning rage by anyone that dares to live in a way they deem as different”. That does indeed describe the Left and the Democrats. They can’t handle anyone different from their leftist elitism.
Your next two paragraphs, which I won’t repeat, are as unintelligible as the previous one. I think you are talking about fundamentalists, and yes, the leftist elite, the Democrats, are indeed rabid and dangerous, because they reject debate, question, dissent. We’ve seen that, for example, in Obama’s constant complaints about people who criticize him. And the vicious attacks against Palin are yet another example of Leftist socialist fundamentalism.
“What is frightening is that the political process is so malleable and the electorate so shallow that this non-entity is capable of being elevated to the pinnacle of power.”
Perfect description of the empty suit, the intellectual void that is Obama.
Agree with western canadian, the hatred towards Palin almost makes the attitude media had towards ‘W’ seem like a love-in. And David Frum’s column in the NP was basically heckling from the sidelines, which is kind of sad actually. Attention reporters, you helped beat her in the last election, we get it, you’re history’s greatest heroes, now you’re just piling on.
Philboy, it is too bad you view the average women with such despicable taste. Palin is the role model women, an everyday women. To you she is dirt which means you view women as dirt. So beneath you that a women like her could not ever submit to your every command.
Very tasteless buddy. I would find it very entertaining to see the average everyday Mom kick your ass.
I agree with Fred – philboy’s description as
“this non-entity is capable of being elevated to the pinnacle of power” is a perfect description of Obama.
Yet another characteristic of the left, as exemplified by philboy, is the utter lack of evidence for his statements. He says, ‘Sarah is a joke’. Please explain, with evidence, how you come to such an opinion.
Since I’ve never watched shows such as ‘King of the Hill’- which I presume only ‘thoughtful people’ like Philboy watch, I can’t comment on his attempt at yet another leftist insult of Palin.
It’s remarkable how the left viciously rejects independence. They demand that you be subsumed to their elite control. If you speak out, if you question, if you don’t follow – not the rule – but follow THEM, their malice, their irrational emotionalism, their infantile rage – is boundless.
Hmm… so a governor resigns mid-term? And the Old Media goes bonkers?
Fascinating. Indicates that the Powers That Be (Soros et al.) are worried. Therefore they direct the Old Media to issue smears and such all over again.
They watch Sarah’s every move.
Once she makes a significant move like this, the Powers That Be suddenly panic.
This means that they know that Sarah’s got what it takes to inspire American voters to expel the Left from power. There’s nothing wrong with Sarah; she’s clean, has no international-mystery baggage, no extremist past, no extremist ties… unlike Obama.
ET’s prediction of running for Senate in 2010 makes sense to me. It’s probably strategically better to wait until 2016 to run for President, as too many folks may still be brainwashed about Palin in 2012 and the Old Media may not have finally collapsed and gotten its act together by then. Besides, George Soros is pretty old, so maybe he won’t be around in ’16, meaning that the Left would then have lost its fuhrer and his money and will be in big trouble.
Patience is the strategy here.
But what of ’12? Surely Obama will have screwed stuff up badly enough by then to be unelectable, if the GOP fields someone good against him. So then again, it’s still very possible that Palin will be that strong candidate in ’12.
Hard to say, but the speculation’s fun, eh!
He says, ‘Sarah is a joke’. Please explain, with evidence, how you come to such an opinion.
Well, what one finds humourous is an individual
and subjective thing, or, as vitruvius would pompously say- De gustibus non est disputandum.
When Palin opens her mouth, I go into paroxysms of laughter, not unlike my reaction when I read one of ET’s interminable posts.
ET you are on a roll. Your comments this Saturday have made an already great Saturday, even more excellent.
Thanks to both you and Jack for the great read.
Pat

It’s hard to know what Sarah’s next move will be.
She just received a $7 million advance for a book.
One of the reasons we all like her is that she’s not cut from the political cloth of most politicians. It’s possible that for the very reasons we admire her she may take her money and just tell the whole political establishmsnt to get bit.
She has kids, grandkids, a great husband, lives in a beautiful place, and has a lot of activities that she enjoys.
Maybe she just hasn’t been sufficiently corrupted by the political process and will decide to keep her political interests marginal and supportive and go off to lead a life worth living.
ET, I think you have a good idea if she does decide to stay in politics. That would reall establish some of these “refinement” credentials that the left mindlessly salivates over.
philboy, shouldn’t you be trying to latch onto one of the remaining thousand tickets for the Michael Jackson funeral?
ahh, so now I understand philboy. He lives in a fictional world of his own making.
Philboy’s world is ungrounded, unconnected to reality. There’s no ‘rhyme or reason’ for his reactions. Not only are his reactions to the external world totally subjective, completely confined to his own ‘inner self’ – but they are inexplicable. He can’t explain them. He just, suddenly, without reason, will start to hysterically laugh and laugh and laugh.
Poor philboy.
I wandered over to cbc’s website to take a look at their story on this. About 95% of the comments are all put downs of Palin, nothing surprising there, the leftoids are predictable. They mostly all use the “I can see Russia from my window” or the ” Africa is a country” lines as their basis for proclaiming Palin as a bimbo. Just to set the record straight,I wrote in a comment pointing out that the first line was actually said by Tina Fey on Saturday Night Live, and the second was a total fabrication created by an unscrupulous blogger. Cbc has not printed this yet as of an hour ago.It must be too factual for their readers to understand.
Oops!! Force of habit. Double Tap, don’cha’no.
My bad.

Tv,
You must have missed her most scary statement “Get ready for real Climate Change (Paraphrase)”
The republican shit heads in DC need someone who is fearless, honest, and can take all the arrows… She sees an opening for that type of person… Watch Palin and learn what you “extremists” are missing in your finely fettered minds
Your definition of leadership assumes a dictatorship or absolute power…nonsense
Scary! Scary!… Run! Run!

Actually I despise liberals. If there is a wrong path to take, they will take it – big gov’t., cap & trade, over regulation, earth worship etc. etc.
But you have got to admit conservatives have really screwed up in the USA. The majority of Americans identify themselves as conservatives, but they have no one to vote for. The Republican Party has been dominated by Southerners (of which I am one) and fringe personalities (been accused of that too).
You have got to admit Palin came out of the clear blue – a first term Governor of a State with the population smaller than a big city, who was added to McCain’s ticket simply to reinvigorate the right wing base.
My point is that the Republican Party needs to put moderates with reasonable viewpoints in place who represent the majority of the population, and not just the far right wing.
(btw My Momma did admit she was in the SDS in college – wised up and became a die-hard Republican, rest her sole.)
Question: Is the CBC as liberal as say the New York Times? Just want to know how insulted should I be?
Sometimes the NP is as wrong as the Left News from the rest of the country. Palin left office because a Governor of Alaska cannot stay in office under attack. (9 frivolous cheep attacks this year.) Alaska depends on the tourist trade; even more so now that oil is down. If only a tiny percent of Dumboctats decide to choose their vacations politically, the Alaskan economy will be hurt. The Governor must be mostly invisible.
I hope she will run as a Senator. Down in the lower 48 She can do great things for the GOP and represent her state.
