When I ran across this quote last evening in the comments, I cringed a little, assuming it came from some quasi-supremacist twit that the Liberals were attempting to link to the Conservatives…
“We created the country you live in. Never forget it.”
Turns out it’s just the same old “we’re Canadian and you’re not” Liberal campaign rhetoric. The more things change, eh western Canada?
Sounds funny, though, coming from the lips of an American.
Ignatieff translated;
When I was 17 I knocked on doors for Lester Pearson, even though he gave us a flag that looks like a “poor imitation of a Beer label”
In 1968 I campaigned for Pierre Trudeau. They I buggered off for 34 years.
Now I need your votes so you can have me stay in Canada. If I am not elected, I will go back to teach at Harvard. Hey it’s your loss.

Gotta keep this one going, it’s one of the more outrageous statements he’s come out with, we’ve gotta keep hitting him with it.
Dammit it does matter that he’s been away from Canada for over three decades. It also matters that he wouldn’t be here if he had not been lured by the Liberals. with the promise of leadership and a shot at the PM chair. He also has told us he has his job on hold at Harvard should he wish to return.
Both he and the Liberals may well find out it takes more than dressing a Mannequin for their window to run a country, there has to be something in the store.
This whole affair with Igantieff reminds of the old West Movies when a stranger comes to town and becomes Mayor. Any day now I expect to see him chewing and spitting.
I didn’t catch his name, but the Liberal moron on Power Play last night during the discussion on proposed changes to EI made perhaps the stupidest atatement ever made by a politician on TV.
Arguing that EI benefits would be put back into the economy by the recipients, he stated ” there’s no stimulus like EI.”
I kid you not.
“Well, Trudeau may not have been a founding father when he built the constitution, but there’s no denying that Margaret laid the Stones.”

A press conference that was to be held today by a Mississauga man and his lawyer about one of the nannies who has levelled accusations of unfair treatment at federal MP Ruby Dhalla, has been postponed.
A spokesperson for the office of City Centre lawyer Shawn Philbert said the conference has been delayed because of scheduling problems for Philbert’s client, George Roswell.”

**A must read the comments, Most are “Not” favourable towards Ignatieff & the Liberals.
The liberals were the ones that wanted “More Stimulus Spending” or they would topple the Govt.
Now they want to topple the Govt. for spending! Give me a break, these Liberals are like leaches on the land, Preying on Canadians worst fears, trying to create panic. If its not the UI its the Budget stimulus.
But you know what Canadians are Not buying into their scam.
Like i said A must read the comments Most are critical of the Liberals

“Flaherty should be fired for $50b deficit: Grits”
I have a distinct memory of the Libs, Dip and Bloc getting in a world-class snit last fall because the CPC wasn’t going to spend gobs of money we didn’t have. I guess the Libs are all huffy now because it’s *only* 50B.
Iggy worked for Mike Pearson sometime in the 1960s. Then he was sealed cryogenically in liquid nitrogen, only to emerge in the year 2005 with a mission to become prime minister of Canada. Our very own Austin Powers, only not as funny.
McCallum said today that there were programs the Cons are doing that the Liberals would cancel to find the money for EI and other things….but refused to say what they were.
Hmmm what programs that spend between 10 and 15 billion a year would those be? And why wont he talk about them?

I think this might be germane to the topic, as it’s connected to Ignatieff and his character vis a vis allowing Kinsella to act like a dummy on his behalf.

“UPDATE 1-Canada opposition divided over backing for Ottawa
OTTAWA, May 27 (Reuters) – Canada’s three opposition parties, which can only bring down the minority Conservative government if they all vote together, could not agree on Wednesday how to handle Ottawa’s admission it would run a record budget deficit this year.
The Liberals, the official opposition party, said the news that the deficit would reach more than C$50 billion ($45 billion) made it increasingly difficult to work with Prime Minister Stephen Harper, whose January budget they backed.
But the left-leaning New Democrats showed no enthusiasm for cooperating in a bid to defeat Harper while the separatist Bloc Quebecois said it wanted more details of what the Liberals had in mind.”

The problem is not how long Iggy was away from Canada, the problem is that he came back.
I think Uber is probably right, most Canadians are not conservatives and the “clock cleaning” he’s referring to seems inevitable. Fortunately for us, this cultural divide is regional, and conservatives are the vast majority where I live.
There is only one solution, period.
Uber
Would you object to Alberta and perhaps Saskatchewan leaving Confederation; or, would you condone the actions necessary to prevent such an event?
The ducks seem to be lining up nicely as conservatives in the US are migrating from the major cities on the coasts to the midland states. This migration, Canada’s regional realities, and the alienation of conservatives on both sides of the boarder may create some interesting opportunities and partnerships for western Canadians in the near future.
“Philbert’s client, George Roswell.”

More nuts from I-Iggy’s Dhalla Nana Dilemma.
Roswell’s next UFO witnesses sighted missing will be “Philbert’s” other clients, cousins Ches and Wal.

Indiana
You would probably want to wrest BC into the fold. You’ll need some coastline dude. They can carve out an enclave for Vancouver, a piteously small one however a la Singapore.
That would leave Manitoba stuck between the Alsaskalumbia and Ontario – an unstable state of affairs. In which case Manitoba should be incorporated as well as a buffer zone. This would also afford an Atlantic outlet via Churchill, maybe yearround if the warming keeps up.
If the chips were to fall in place I could be induced to break out of the latte gulag Torontopelago and assist.
I’m going to keep my eye on the sitchyation.
What will be interesting to see is if prominent Conservatives like PMSH and S.Day will be content to work from the opposition benches; or, if they will view an election loss as a sign that the Reform’s experiment of trying to convince Canadians of our point of view is a dismal failure.
I tend to agree with batb that PMSH’s liberal side comes from a place of necessity. I suspect PMSH is quite conservative and he personally shares many of the thoughts about conservatism espoused on this site.
We need our leaders back home, they don’t belong in Ottawa!
For those that criticize the Conservatives for “watering the wine”, just remember the results of elections past. Conservatives running on a conservative agenda is the proven recipe for a Liberal majority government.
Indiana – i concur – it’s probably even more important to keep the Libs ‘out’ of power as it is for the Tories to be in.
I agree with both indiana, and agaent smith …however i think there is a slow turning tide here in canada andi think people are starting to awaken politically and understand what conservatism is all about and i personally think that in the east is where we are going to see the biggest shift to conservatism ..i speak with all sorts of people out in ontario and they are very upset that the auto workers are only having there wages rolled back to 57/hr that is 114k per year to put friken lug nots on a car as well as a pension and great benefit’s so we’ll see people need to be held accountable for there actions and unfortunatley the liberals don’t do that when your wrong your still right , whne some one beat’s you fair and square at soemthing well the second place has got to have something to becausei t is’nt fair …well screw the liberals and all of ignatieff’s crap he is fake false and a total loser he has one agenda and that is his own selfish one stupid prix…sorry kate he makes me mad he lies right through his teeth about canada and how it got to where it is ….well i know alberta will alway’s be conservative and it is growing here …..to i talk to 19 year olds 20 year olds here and they are pissed at liberals they will never vote for a liberal so some of our schools are still teaching something right ….anyway ttyl.
Paul calgary.
Hey Filbert – what’s up with your client ? – if memory serves correctly isn’t this the second time now he’s ‘cancelled’ a presser ?
What’s this really about F i l b e r t ?!
clair voyant McCallum said the same thing to Roy Green on Adler On Line to-day. He was criticising the deficit numbers and that was his one and only solution. As for the attack ads ALL the Liberal leadership candidates said the same thing about Iggy being out of the country too long. Who knew Bob Rae could be right about anything?
start to balance the budget by selling CBCpravda.
sell it for a buck and save a billion a year.
Uber-Dork said: “You know I am write ….”
That speaks volumes about your IQ. Please lay off watching all the animal porn and start reading books & practicing how to write. P.S. Go Iggy! LOL
Justthinkin: You completely misunderstood what I said. My point was that I just never actually believed that Liberals ACTUALLY took believed that they were the Natural Governing Party of Canada. With vapid supporters like Uber-Dork above, how could they?!
Conservatism has NOT been a failure in Canada. But look at what the conservative movement is up against:
– The Liberals
– The NDP
– The Bloc Quebecois & Parti Quebecois for the most part
– Most of the gov’t bureaucracy federally and likely in most provinces
– An endless number of NGOs, all of whom are sycophants to the Liberals and the tax dollars they have siphoned to them for decades
– Most of academia
– The majority of elementary & high school teachers, who spent a great deal of time with our youth
– The entire CBC, funded with $1 Billion of our money every year
– Much of the rest of the MSM
So with all those forces lined up against electing even one Conservative Party member, it’s actually quite amazing how well they’re doing.
Remember when Iffy decided Quebec is a Nation should be in the Constitution?
What Liberals said about Iffy:
”Many senior Liberals were outraged over what they viewed as Ignatieff’s crass and myopic maneuver,
saying it betrays nearly 50 years of party history and runs counter to the legacies of Lester Pearson, Pierre Trudeau and Jean Chretien, who battled fiercely to engage but not pander to Quebec.
At best, this is insensitive, or worse, it’s a Paul-Martin-esque pandering to the votes of soft separatists.
This is where Ignatieff’s nearly three decades of living outside of Canada — not to mention his obvious political inexperience — shows through.”
http://www.vigile.net/Ignatieff-s-Quebec-tactic-divides
I almost feel sorry for the huge voting block in Central Canada who eat this crap up.
Maybe if we had a less naive voting populace in this country, we could have a more conservative party to elect, but I guess sitting on the fence is the Canadian way.
Another would be leader with a Narcisistic complex ala the incomparable example of Obama the “uber- messiah”. In both their speech patterns their “I”s come too close together. In Ignatief’s case take the “gnat” out of surname and they are adjacent to each other! I wonder if a cartoonist could make something of that?
One of the things I found annoying was the pronouncement that the “centre” is where we say it is. Huh — so if the Liberals move left (as they surely must if they are to grab votes from the NDP), then that becomes the new centre. There really is a lot arrogance here. And we are made to feel like errant children who had better not forget what we are being told. I do hope this guy is soon gone.
Who needs negative campaign ads, just run that speech, it will never be forgotten! In fact we should send him a cheque for it.
Yes Iggy.
Invoke the name of PET.
Remind Canada why we don’t need you or your party.
Excuse me. Off to the hardware store for some new farming implements.
The Fiberals certainly did not create my country! Just after he was working for Trudeau, the socialist, I was working for Peter Lougheed, who knew how to run an government and be a statesman. So there.
His ilk were neither indigenous nor pioneers! My pioneer ancestors were here building Canada well before it was a country or when the Count or Grants showed up! They were farmers, ranchers, school teachers and inspectors, Reeves before Canada was a country, wives of U.E. loyalists, etc. They cleared the land and built a life from 1784. This man is REALLY insulting; the more he tries to trump up his roots, the more foolish he looks. Napolitano of the North. Stop buying the book – read it later from a garage sale or libraries.
Canadians built and maintain Canada despite our governments, not because of them.
Canada is me – I could not agree with you more – don’t buy Icky’s book! Why give that spineless wonder any more of our money? We are forced to pay that money grubbing individual money for sitting on a nice comfy fur in the House of Commons (a term that must grate on Icky, given his elevated opinion of himself!)
Poor old hipster Icky has never forgiven his family for not leaving him a big fat inheritance so he could pay people to kow tow to him. His mind is thwarted with bitterness; he felt that his family should have been hailed as ‘aristocrats of entitlement’ when they got here from Bolshevik Russia; what he fails to mention is that no one in his family grabbed a gun and fought for Democracy in war torn bled blue Russia (only ‘peons’ fight for freedom, people like Icky are insulted from the business of freedom from oppression with vast wealth; they are the ilk that like having a ‘nanny’ and servants to do the dirty work. The last thing they want is the ‘servants’ having freedom from oppression – in whatever form that oppression takes: left or right, same bottom line for people like Icky and his ilk). The people of Russia did not want a Czar and they did not want a bloody Bolshevik tyrant, they wanted a say in the government and they wanted some control over their own lives. Nicolas II was not a bad man, he was a weak man who did not want to be a Czar, the family Icky comes from worked with and for the Czar and they resented his power but they didn’t want freedom from dictatorship bad enough to fight for it.
I am Canada, I would strongly agree with you when you say you are Canada in a big way; me too! My ancestors came here to get out from under the tyranny of bigshots – and my family fought FOR the freedom of others; they were so happy to have a house and a piece of property that belonged to them and was off limits to anyone they did not want around them that they fought to give other poor souls that freedom. I don’t know anything about the Grants, I am a Western Canadian and I grew up in the freedom that my parents place in the wild Cypress Hills made mine. My Grandad shot the tires of a gument tax collector’s car in the early 1920’s because he drove up to his place without being invited. My grandad towed those guys off his property with a pair of work horses. Grandad would not pay income tax ( he paid land taxes) after 1919 because income tax, in Canada, was a WWI amendment ( a war measures act) and Laurier ( a Liberano) who won the election against the wartime Prime Minister, Bordon ( a Torie), after the war; refused to take that freedom killing tax off the books. Income tax is still a temporary amendment in Canada, the right for government’s to tax Canadian citizen’s income has never been debated in the House of Commons!
Icky is definitely in the wrong place at the wrong time. He would have been wise to never consider working for a rat infested, mole eaten old polyester rag of a Political Party. I think he was sucked in because he wanted to see his picture in magazines trotting around the world and visiting palaces; playing the role he feels he was cheated out of by the Bolshevik Revolution. Like Lenin, he is a day late and a dollar short – Jackal Jacko is much more Canadian that Icky and Jacko is a mini man. PMSH represents his country with our well being in his heart and on his mind – he is like us, I am Canada. Our PMSH does not care about photo ops (he was rounded up for one such op by the southern “Youth” representing America!). If the Americans could, I am certain that they would swap us their “Youth” President for our mature, capable Prime Minister. If Icky wanted a top gument job he should have played in the junior league against the other landed immigrant to the US, IMO.
Crossposted at Stephen Taylor’s blog:
Never one to speak humbly, regardless of his protestations to the contrary, Iggy says that Canadians are never to forget that THE LIBRANO$ created the country we live in? What about Canadians who’ve built this country and have had nothing to do with the Liberal Party of Canada?
‘Seems to me in the six decades I’ve been living in Canada, getting an education, marrying, having a family, volunteering in my community, working, paying taxes, etc., etc., I must have had something to do with the building of my country, but in Count Iggula’s vernacular, apparently, I didn’t. According to his lights, it’s the LPC that needs to be congratulated.
Who would have known?
So, the Liberals should be congratulated? For almost turning us into a socialist country — which works for the elites but not for most of the rest of us, especially the middle class? For some of the highest taxes in the developed world? For having aborted over 2.5 million unborn children in the past 40 years? For a chaotic, run-amok immigration policy? For toxic multiculturalism and two-passport immigrants? For stealing $40,000,000 from Canadians through Adscam? For giving us PM Chretien and PM Martin, both puppets of a certain BIG BUSINESS in Quebec?
It’s laughable his bragging about the Liberals’ being “the natural ruling party of Canada.” And, he’s not being arrogant?
The only reason The Iggster can make these ridiculous claims is that he’s so out of touch with the rest of us. He’s parachuted into a country he has no organic connection with and lives only in his hermetically sealed Liberal world. He’s totally out of touch with where most Canadians are.
He’s an embarrassment. And if Canadians fall for him, I’m looking for an EXIT. We’ll know, then, that we’ve been totally brainwashed — certainly, one of the objectives of the LPC. I guess in their way of seeing things, brainwashing Canadians is something for them to be proud of. For the rest of us, it’s a tragedy.
“I am certain that they would swap us their “Youth” President for our mature, capable Prime Minister.”
Agreed. I can’t think of anyone else, anywhere, who is as capable as PMSH. He is definitely our franchise player.
batb
I don’t think it’s brainwashing, I think voting patterns just highlight the different values Canadians have regionally. They don’t care about us in central Canada, we’re simply a resource to be exploited. There is nothing naive about it, central Canadians consciously support the oppression of western Canadians.
With friends like that; who needs friends?
The captive immigrants populations of GTA, the number of EI dependent eastern Canadians, the industry dependent on government hand outs, the number of government employees ensures that the Liberals will return to power. Sadly too many western people think they can change this type of “Canada”. It won’t happen. Just lie back and think of what the Reform Party should have been-a separatist party to gtf out of “Canada”.
Its inevitable that East & West become divided. The cultural divide is now a chasm. I expect the US will break apart into contending areas as well. The ground work has already been set in law. If not history.
This kind of polarization either ends up in civil war or just the severing of bonds over time as groups drift politically or religiously.
Heck who knows, parts of the US & Canada could join. All I do really think is with this great a land mass partitioning is inevitable with no single vision. Canada stayed together because of similar Anglo traditions incorporating French sensibilities. That foundation has been razed by the Liberals creating the social division to further personnel power. In the US certain Politicians have worked hard to make the Constitution. The glue of America. Make of it none effect, or twist it into the opposite of what was meant to be protected. The people. Without a Vision the people perish, or realign there loyalties.
This is what comes about when certain political figures think of Canadians as just a bank with workers to paint their legacy to the World. With us as serfs to the decomposition they call resurrection of a new culture here every 20 years. Using our hard earned money to look righteous.
Meanwhile they inflict the Inquisition called the HRC’s any who complain of they’re looting with entitlement like tyrants of old.
Canada is less a Country than a launching pad for the Family compact known as the Liberal party.
We have lost the right to be citizens. Where only subjects now & made to like it!
JMO
Indiana Homez — I have said this before, if Alberta and Saskatchewan decide to leave Canada, puhleeez take BC too.
Steve: “EBD, if you define the GTA as everything east of the Ontario-Manitoba border, you nailed it.”
This is the type of pig ignorance that makes me despair for the country. Um, Steve, this tiny fact may have escaped you, but Ontario elected fifty-one Conservatives in the last election. That’s more than 1/3rd of their total seats. It’s more Tories than Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta combined. So, please, get on your knees and kiss my puckered Eastern a** – without Ontario, PMSH would be backbencher SH.
