The First American Prime Minister In White Sheets

When I ran across this quote last evening in the comments, I cringed a little, assuming it came from some quasi-supremacist twit that the Liberals were attempting to link to the Conservatives…

“We created the country you live in. Never forget it.”

Turns out it’s just the same old “we’re Canadian and you’re not” Liberal campaign rhetoric. The more things change, eh western Canada?
Sounds funny, though, coming from the lips of an American.
Ignatieff translated;

When I was 17 I knocked on doors for Lester Pearson, even though he gave us a flag that looks like a “poor imitation of a Beer label”
In 1968 I campaigned for Pierre Trudeau. They I buggered off for 34 years.
Now I need your votes so you can have me stay in Canada. If I am not elected, I will go back to teach at Harvard. Hey it’s your loss.

    Don’t worry Iggy, i won’t forget….

  5. Oh great, so the next election will be all about scary Stephen Harper this, and arrogant Liberals that, while yet again we fail to have any substantive debate of important issues, like Section 13, or climate fraud, because in essence, the CPC is just looking to replace the Liberals as the go-to brand.
It’s not much more than a tiff between Tim Hortons and Starbucks for the lion’s share of the nation’s coffee money.
Sure, the Liberals are an arrogant bunch of entitlement addicts. But what happened to the principles of Stephen Harper since he became the leader of the united party?
This new party has modelled itself on the Liberals and as a result, it has no real soul — it is not a conservative party at all, just a meeting place for control freaks. It ceased to be a truly conservative party the moment that the leadership decided to duck the difficult issues and hide behind mealy-mouthed compromise statements that really mean nothing.
We have not had a real conservative party in Canada since the termination of the Canadian Alliance. Now we have two Liberal parties, one authentic, and one in disguise.
I’m sure people will want to dump on me for pointing out these inconvenient facts, but we can’t go on pretending any longer. Seeing how bad the Liberals are simply reminds us that the CPC are only marginally better. That’s not good enough for me, why is it good enough for you?

  7. This was from the 2004 election….so Iggy hauls out his Liberal bona fides, knocked on doors for Mike Pearson and worked on PET’s 1968 (jaysus) campaign plane…..then one humongous gap!!
The NGP line comes from a frank Underhill book, and it is used in an admiring sense. Underhill being one of many Liberal toadies that worked in academe in the 50’s 60’s and 70’s. I remember running across it in university in the 80’s and finding it to be a quaint relic.
Iggy is Rip Van Winkle, more like the de Niro character in Awakenings…30 years he was
asleep, but ultimately slips back into paranoid delusions when the medicine doesnt work.
The “We created this country” line and thinking is still there. Its there to make Liberals feel good about being Liberals. It means nothing to anyone else.
The conservatives have never said that Iggy is unpatriotic, or not a citizen….they have said he is out of touch with a canada of today….
You know, when Kinsella agreed to work with Iggy do you think he did any background research? Or was he just thrilled to be asked?

  8. Liberals: “Creating OUR version of Canada since 1968, whether you like it or not. Suck it up peasants, we know better than you how to run your lives and spend your money.”

  9. Liberals: “We wrecked the self-sufficient, proud country which came of age defending the free world through a couple of world wars and replaced it with welfare and ‘free’ health care.”

  10. I don’t think that Michael Ignatieff is going back
to Harvard. Harvard doesn’t like losers.

  11. Keep up the good work Iggy. I’m looking forward to the leaders’ debates.
To Peter O’Donnell at 12:07 PM: If the CPC acted like a “real conservative party” at this juncture, they’d never win an election. Our electorate has become so screwed up during the last 40 years, that the majority are not capable of responding to “substantive debate”. The dominance of the progressives (read Kindergartenists) in the school system and the MSM have pushed the pendulum far left, and it will take more than one election cycle to bring it back. For now, be patient and stay with the tribe.

  12. Soccermom >>> OMG… I was actually thinking exactly the same thing but was trying to imagine it in PET’s, Cretien’s, John Turner’s, Joe Clarks, Brian Muroney’s, and Paul Martin’s accents…the last 40 plus years of either Liberal or Red Tory rule Prior to Stephen Harper being elected…
Can you imagine…Liberals, in our streets, with superior atitudes and their foo foo coffee’s, In Canada!!!
“Liberals: “Creating OUR version of Canada since 1968, whether you like it or not. Suck it up peasants, we know better than you how to run your lives and spend your money.”

“In 1968 I campaigned for Pierre Trudeau.”
Just what we need – a fossil from Jurassic park to lead us. Iggy must be wearing Depends on the electoral circuit by now.

  14. soccermom – exactly right. The Liberals have acted like a colonizing power. They make all the decisions and we, the colonized, have to accept their decisions, because they are Wise and we are Dumb.
The Liberals have disabled Canadian democracy, for their mode of governance, with its patronage Senate, its reams of unaccountable appointed civil servants (deputy ministers, judges, etc) have set up a system where ALL decisions are made by them without the input or approval of the people.
That includes the Beer Label flag, the Charter, the HRCs, the health ‘care’ system, the education system, bilingualism, multiculturalism, federal control over industries, over farms (Wheat Board), the MSM control by the CBC, film industries, the Unemployment System, the equalization, identity politics..on and on..
The basic infrastructure of Canadian life that set up a focus on groups as isolated and easily controlled identities and denigrated individual freedoms – that was all developed by the Liberals.
We are now being reminded that we must never forget this repressive colonization, this stamping out of individualism, entrepreneurship and the rejection of our right to debate, dissent, question (Canadians are ‘tolerant’; Canadians are ‘peaceful’). All of this repressive brainwashing was geared to turning us into The Passive Colonized.

  15. Gee,thanks Iggy. I didn’t know that John A Macdonald was a Liberal. I though this country was created by families more than a century ago who chose to come here to try and forge a new life in an uncertain new land. Thanks for clearing that up Iggy. I guess I should notify my immigrant family they had nothing to do with it.

  16. Can you put a beer stein on that “poor imitation beer label”?
I think the height of arrogance was Karen Redman’s statement:
The following announcement made on May 25th, 2005: The federal Liberals would consider ignoring a House of Commons defeat should they lose any of the several coming votes that are matters of confidence between now and the end of the spring session, Chief Government Whip Karen Redman says. !!!
The aforementioned statement in effect suggests that we will inaugurate a period of ‘taxation without representation’. I congratulate the LIEberal Chief Government Whip for renewing and modernizing the 1837 Rebellion.
But hey, why go back to 1968 when the 1837 Rebellion is what LIEberals really want; governing without the necessity of an election.
cf: The Coup-scam Coalition of December last.
Hardworking Canadians built Canada, governments are better understood as parasites dependent on a hard working population. If people aren’t working there is no tax revenue.
Under the communists the population pretended it was working, and the government pretended to pay them. Governments don’t build anything, people do.
Apparently, that system didn’t work out too well with the collapse of communism in 1989.
Leftists have been hard at work trying to revive the dead patient but so far resurrection is beyond them.

  18. “Liberals: Buying votes with your money and winning elections since 1968…and if we can’t win the election, we’ll take government anyway…”

“Liberals: Raping, Pillaging and Insulting Alberta since Trudeau”
“Liberals: You liked the first Trudeau? Well, wait till we force the other one on you.”
    Just a few Liberal trademarks.

  19. I confess. I was a young teenager all fired up by the Centennial Year and actually campaigned briefly for Trudeau. Then he brought closure into Parliament and I ripped up my Liberal Party membership card. Started to read the late Lubor Zink in the Toronto Sun and realized how Trudeau worshipped dictators of all stripes.
Too bad Ignatieff didn’t wake up too.

  20. PET will never be dead enough to suit me……but at least he chased a decent skirt. That effete, narrow shouldered dork Iggy couldn’t get laid in a wh*rehouse with a fistful of hundreds.

  21. Ignatieff brags about the family tree but it turns out he thinks they were ALL wrong:
George Grant presents a problem for the Liberal leader. Uncle George was distinguished among Grants by his visceral hatred of Liberals, especially the most liberal of them all, prime minister Lester B. Pearson.
Grant’s famous polemic, Lament for a Nation (1965), attacked Pearson and his ilk for selling out to the Americans.
Grant insisted, from the depths of his pessimism, that Canada had no future in an age inevitably dominated by U.S. technology.
In discussing that book, Ignatieff exhibits a desire to dance at everybody’s wedding.
He says Grant was wrong about everything from Grant family history to the future of Canada. Nevertheless, he finds a way to call Lament for a Nation a masterpiece — ”a masterpiece of grief and anger.”
In True Patriot Love, Ignatieff has vigorously shaken the family tree to see how many Liberals fall out.
At the end there’s only one, Michael Grant Ignatieff himself, but that’s plenty.

  22. We need Ignatieff to beat back you cons!! He is truly a keeper of Trudeau and as a founding father he must be respected! He will make sure we have fewer white people, more immigration, and a national daycare that you cons went against when you cut the GST. Now you’ve put us in debt you won’t make the rich people pay! You are against gay marriage and bilingilism and would secretly do away with Trudeau’s Canada. And we can’t allow that to happen!!

  23. I’m still having a hard time believing that anyone outside the GTA would vote for Ignatieff. The guy is beyond a shadow of a doubt the most pompous blowhard in the history of public life in Canada.
    Incroyable.

  24. If we had any real investigative journos in CDA they would be looking into whether iggy ever was registered as a voter in the us and for which party. Secondarily to that they should see if he ever spoke at a campaign rally in the US. If he did any of the above then it is proof as to the extent of his allegiance to CDa and the LPC.

  25. Honestly, with a few small cuts, this would be a much more effective anti-Iggy ad than the one currently being aired by the Tories. The man’s his own worst enemy, and all the Tories need to do is expose him. Stop the sneers, and the hectoring, and let Iggy hang himself.

Hahahahaha!!!.. do stop, Noel Coward..I’ll bet you secretly keep a Dief the chief button in your ‘days of the week’ marked underwear drawer.

  27. Flag that looks like a bad Beer label….must go with that whole “Beer and popcorn” angle they were going for before Stephen Harper became our PM

  28. You can make fun of me, but we will beat you for what you are doing! You should be banned for all the lies you make!! Ignatieff will rule Canada one day after we’ve cleaned out your clocks!

  29. See my quote at 1:37.
Accordingly If Ignatieff thinks Canada was built by Liberals neither HE or ANY of his family had anything to do with it. His oh so vererated ancestors HATED Liberals.
Where is the quote that would have his Uncle George Grant spinning in his grave whre Ignatieff said that “he was a Pearson Liberal”.
How funny. Ignatieff left Canada at 6 weeks old and did not return until he was 11. At 17 he says he knocked on doors for Trudeau.
Exactly WHEN was HE a Pearsonian Liberal except in his own fertile imagnination.

  30. uber liberal wrote” You are against gay marriage and bilingilism and would secretly do away with Trudeau’s Canada.
    Secretly? I’d use a f*cking nuke.

  31. uber liberal: “He is truly a keeper of Trudeau and as a founding father he must be respected”
I know people think Ignatief is good but, please, don’t you think your elevating him to the status of founding father (an American term, by the way) is just a tad over the top?

  32. Iggy saying the flag looks like a cheap beer label is somewhat ironic as it was Pearson who replaced the Canadian Red Ensign with the Liberal flag of Canada.

  33. Ignatieff will rule Canada one day after we’ve cleaned out your clocks!~uber Lib
    Hilarious!
I think uber Lib is a sock puppet and is playing it for laughs.

  34. Half way through the clip, I thought I was watching an attack ad for the conservatives. The unfortunate thing is, this is an great example of something that resonates with Ontario and Quebec; natural governing, center of intellectual thought, creator of all that is Canadian, scary Western ideas. EBD, if you define the GTA as everything east of the Ontario-Manitoba border, you nailed it.

  35. I am not a puppet for anyone! You know I am write because I speak the truth and it annoys you cons!! You will not be laughing when the Liberals take power and put a stop to your ways! Trudeau is a founding father and must be respected no matter what the other guy says!!

  36. Canadian Sentinel,
I used to go to Warren’s site….but once he moved from being an observer to being a participant it doesnt matter anymore.
I am sure if there is something worthwhile it show up elsewhere.

  37. It would take some scab Liberal to openly wish for a PM to ‘rule’ Canada. Thanks Comrade!

  38. Uber, are you the reincarnation of the late, lamented,”New”? If so, congratulations, your English is improving, and you’re now comprehensible.
And anyone who pines for Trudeau must NOT have been here before 1968. How can anyone say Trudeau was a good PM when they have no comparison.
Ya shoulda seen us before-Pierre. We was GREAT!

  39. Yea. We don’t need no Harvard professor guys who got world-famous for their brains.

  40. Trudeau a Founding Father!!! LOL
On second thought,Ya he was a founding father, Founding Father of Deficits.
And the founding father of the 10/42 UI system back in the 70’s work 10wks collect for 42.
Wait a minute, “Back to the Future” Ignatieff is Copying His mentors system, by calling for 360hrs!.

  41. Well, Trudeau may not have been a founding father when he built the constitution, but there’s no denying that Margaret laid the Stones.
