  1. The liberal, socialist misfits of California are getting what they deserve. I am always amazed at the stupidity of the left. Unfortunately, due to their stupidity, innoncent, people like the chicken farmers, have to suffer as well. California is almost finished and I would advise people to get out while they can.

  2. Just listened to a commentator on the California situation. He states that close to 50% of Californians are an underclass that don’t pay taxes, use social services to a max and do not contribute in any significant way to the financial well being of the state. That is unsustainable even if your state is the 8th largest economy in the world. There are also suggestions that California should be split into 4 states to better manage the budget.

  3. Take a good look folks. This is the future for Canadians in every enterprise. The NDP and the Liberals will love it because it suits their social engineering agenda, and the Conservatives will acquiesce if they think it will keep them in power.

  4. In a way, Californians are lucky. They’ve been making fun of the East for decades, and this time would be the perfect time for Easterners to have their revenge…
…except for the fact that California went broke largely by one-upping those same Easterners in the left-lib department. So, Californians seem to have ducked out of a different kind of reckoning day.

  5. cage free; is that like range free where chickens can roam around and eat grasshoppers, dogshit, eachother and too much green grass that turns the yolks deep orange and strong smelling. Been there done that.
If you want to pay triple for that feel free.
Brown Eggs versus White Eggs…how exactly does that happen?

  6. Talk about chickens-coming-home-to-ro-o-o-ost.
    (sorry, couldn’t help myself)
I will watch, with bemused interest, what the Californians decide to make the prime item on their breakfast plates after 2015.
Question: Can one serve arugala sunny-side-up?

  7. They should just return the state to Mexico and then the drug lords can pay off their debt. The Hollywood starlets could help work off some too!

  8. Maybe Arnie can do an Obama and just confiscate personal property and pay off the debts that way.
He can start with Oprah’s property 🙂

  9. Not evil at all – simply telling it like it is.
We would all be better off if the Wacos of the world were exposed, nipped in the bud right from the gitgo, before too much damage was done. If only the MSM would get off their agenda and smell the roses.

  10. Don’t come cap in hand;
Obama says “We are out of money”.
[In a sobering holiday interview with C-SPAN, President Obama boldly told Americans: “We are out of money.”]
    [..]
[SCULLY: States like California in desperate financial situation, will you be forced to bail out the states?
    OBAMA: No.] Drudge

  11. The worst part is that the left is now using their misguided ranks votes on things like Prop 2 to appeal for less democracy as a solution for getting things done, as this article mentions as well as one Kate posted earlier on CA.
So the point here is this, Government does not need to regulate the size of chicken condos (perhaps they require a view and a Starbucks as well) so a Prop 2 should not have even existed. That is the real story, not the result of the vote but why the heck are we doing this in the first place.
This is the lefty union worker model being taken too far….
Poultry Union of Egglayers Local 128 demands better healthcare, meals and working conditions for members!
    Chickens of America Unite!
No eggs will we lay, until we get much more say!

  12. Psst buddy.. wanna buy some eggs? The way things seem to be going the only economy left is going to be underground.

  13. I’ll bet that at this moment, there are so many people suffering from a severe case of schadenfreude the the WHO could rightly call it a pandemic.
The beauty of this is that once all the cuts are made, what, with the welfare creeps running around, now faced with survival on their own, all the prisoner let out en mass, all the newly unemployed and deep in debt, pissed-off workers … the home of the tinsel town elite Liberals and the elite commie scum in San Fran … will be in jeopardy. The streets will NOT be safe and crime will be beyond the pale. …. Looks good on California.
You might say the the state has californicated itself.
Arnold has managed to Terminate the golden state.

  14. Let’s see, the U.K is on the verge of social reversal/revolt again’st the loony left’s nannism engineering, California is right behind…Who’s next, NY State?
Maybe eventually all the Blue States will have enough…The solution is no more bailout, the problem is that Obama will not let his blue States fail. He needs them. But I think the Americans had enough of bailouts and it will be increasingly more difficult for Bambi to carry on this way.
I heard the next tea parties are scheduled for July 4 (?)…At least Sep 15 is sheduled to be a huge one.
Up here, one can only hope that as we continue to ride this economic storm and that eventually Ottawa has less money to spread around, social programs heavy, Loony left Quebec who’s the most in debt, most in deficit year after year starts cracking economically too.
Queerbec absolutely needs a huge wake up call and Harper needs to stay firm. No more ‘equalisation’.
    Let them eat gravyless poutine!

  15. When the Eggs-Ain’t-Us revolt starts and the masses start to flee California they will be in for some surprises. All those liberals are going to be crossing borders into states that are busily passing laws that protect their citizen’s rights to guns, bibles and four-wheel-drive pickup trucks. Oh, and eggs and marriage too.
Will this force the United Nations to set up tent camps at the borders for the refugees and move in blue-helmeted troops to protect them?
    New “Galted” trade economy:
Two .45 ACP cal. equals one egg.
One .233 cal. equals one egg.
Five .22 cal. equals one egg.
One 12 gauge 000 buckshot equals two eggs.

  16. I used to raise a few chickens. We never really thought of them as free range, but didn’t have the money to spend on cages and high quality chicken feed. they basically ate grass, silage, and the main staple of their diet was the kitchen scraps that didn’t go to the dogs.
The problem with them being open together in a ‘free range’ pen is from time to time we would find a chicken dead … pecked to death by the other chickens … perhaps fighting over a nice juicy organic worm or bug.
What the helk are Californians doing dictating how farmers raise chickens anyways. What next? dairy farmers prohibited from harvesting veal calves (young bulls who have little use on a dairy farm for lack of an udder) and being forced to raise them till they are out of that cute ‘baby’ calf status?

  17. Oh, well, at least we can roast some delicious chickens whilst we ponder the broke-ness of Californicatoria and of Obamerica.
Yep, I now have a craving for BBQ dirty bird…

  18. Instead of mandating how farmers are to raise chickens, surely the answer is ban factory raised eggs, chickens from being sold. That way the farmers would not have to worry about Mexican or other American eggs usurping their market.

  19. Well, don’t that just beat all!! I thought that the last straw was having anti-war folks telling the military how to fight..and I was wrong.
Now they’ve got city folks telling farmers how to farm.
Almost as funny as having a judge on the Miss America Pageant who is queer. Can you imagine that? A guy that likes men making a decision on what men find beautiful in a beauty contest. Yep, funny as having city folks telling farmers how to farm.
No wonder the world is beginning to snicker at the US. Another brick in the comedic wall.

  20. Don’t laugh at California! Saskatchewan has a law that says that if you have more than 400 laying hens–you need to join an egg marketing board!
    Check it out!!

  21. Come my little Grasshoppers! If the same gangsters in Black Robes, that are involved in the Motor city Corrupt Chapter 11, handle California’s insolvency the unions have a right to 40% of the State…. Whats to explain?
BYE BYE Stock market………… good night

  22. state spending cuts so deep and so painful that they could rewrite the social contract between California and its citizens
For the past thirty years, the social contract between California’s government and this citizen has been that I pay lots of taxes to the state and the state government gives the money mostly to people who don’t do anything for me. It’s somewhat better at the local government level (I’m quite satisfied with my police and fire protection and the local public library), but still less than good.
I’d say that the contract can use some re-writing.

  23. I remember the last time they tried to cut taxes in California and of course the politicians cut essential things first like firemen.
Anyway I feel sorry for the people who really are disabled and dependent on welfare or medicare or whatever. All sorts of money spent on nonesense so now when people really need services they won’t be there.

  24. Hollywood Arnie had a one year window of opportunity riding the crest of his initial victory and he blew it. The poor voting saps thought that he would reverse recalled Gray Davis’ rot, so much for the futility of electing RINOS. The California Dems ate him alive. Too bad he never took his case to the streets, the threat that he initially uttered but never acted upon.
Of course the moronic voters in that state voted for all manner of services over the years without one iota of care as to how it would be funded. You can’t have it both ways.
    Let them rot.

  25. I’m thinking that the rest of the country should try to convince California to seceed from the Union. You reap what you sew.

  26. The plight of the egg farmers is just another example of elitist top down governance which only works so long as they have access to other people’s money.
State and local legislators have allowed teachers unions to control their schools and public service unions to run the state.
They have banned offshore oil exploration and nuclear power.
It appears to me that that the California state and local governments have created serious regulatory burdens for production of many basic goods and services, and now as noted above “the chickens are coming home to roost”.
Incidentally, where are all the new green jobs that were supposed to appear?
It seems to me that President Obama is trying to apply the ‘California model’ to the U.S. as a whole. I am afraid the result will be the same.

  27. Mexico might want to consider building a fence.
They really don’t want a bunch of San Fran hippies invading them.
