Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight, for your delectation and pursuant to our Sunday night classical music show, here is the great Jascha Heifetz performing what is almost certainly not Tomaso Antonio Vitali‘s Chaconne in G Minor for violin and continuo (9:44), which as it turns out is the piece that Heifetz opened his Carnegie Hall performance with in 1917, brought to you tonight with organ continuo. From what? That’s not something you hear every day, already!
Your Reader Tips are, as always, welcome in the comments.

“Key Obama Climate Change Exchange Being Swayed by Top U.N. Officials
Five members of the Chicago Climate Exchange advisory board are present or former top-ranking U.N. officials — including one who received $1 million from a convicted South Korean lobbyist in the Oil for Food scandal.
A greenhouse gases trading system funded with the support of then-Illinois State Sen. Barack Obama, which is likely to play a major role in his $650 million cap-and-trade initiative, lists five present or former top-ranking U.N. officials on its advisory board who’ve had enormous influence over climate change matters — including one who received $1 million from a convicted South Korean lobbyist.
The most controversial figure of the five, Maurice Strong, was one of former Secretary General Kofi Annan’s key aides at the U.N. for years until the Iraq Oil-for-Food scandal forced him to leave. Since then Strong has lived mostly in China. Calls to the exchange for comment about Strong’s role, and that of other U.N. figures, were not returned.
The Climate Exchange, which began operations in 2003, provides trading in carbon emissions and their offsets, along with those of other greenhouse gases, is among a group of companies and institutions that voluntarily participate in the program. It bills itself as the only voluntary, legally binding exchange of its kind in North America. Among its member companies are Ford, DuPont and United Technologies as well as a number of electric utilities; other participants include the City of Chicago and Miami-Dade County.
In the latest budget submitted to Congress last month, President Obama proposed backing cap and trade as the nation’s primary response to reduce global warming; a bill with that aim has also been submitted in the House of Representatives. Under the cap and trade plan a fixed number of carbon producing “permissions” would be made available to manufacturing and other industries each year; the totals would be reduced over time, forcing down the overall total of carbon dioxide emissions.
To meet their targets, companies would either have to cut production of the offending carbon-based gases or buy “offsets,” or credits from companies that do not reach their allowed levels or actively create projects that reduce carbon in the atmosphere. Offsets also include planting trees and other activities that remove carbon from the atmosphere. However it is used, the scheme is guaranteed to boost the cost of fossil and other gas producing forms of energy in the U.S., as well as the costs of every economic sector that relies on that energy.”

As always, Victor Davis Hanson ‘gets it right’. Here he is, in the National Review, writing about Obama’s use or misuse, more accurately, of ‘race’.
“A common denominator with Obama’s easy emphasis on racial divides — when juxtaposed to past evocation abroad of his Muslim sensitivities and middle name, serial apologies about American sins and pathologies, and constant denunciation of his predecessor — is a sense that the past tradition of America is culpable and therefore not his own—made explicit in his response to Daniel Ortega’s diatribe that he was just three months old during the Bay of Pigs troubles, and by extension not responsible for American transgressions. Again, separately all these new approaches are in themselves understandable, but in the aggregate they form a disturbing pattern seen earlier with the off-handed remarks about “typical white person,” the stereotyping of rural Pennsylvanians along lines of class and race, and the 20-year long patronage of a clearly racist preacher.
At some point, Obama needs to take a hiatus from this racialist identification, and, like a Sec. Condoleezza Rice, transcend race, let achievements and policies speak for themselves, and thus rise or fall on the content of his own character.”
As others have noted, Obama is not a patriot of America; indeed, his behaviour so far shows how constantly he tries to distance himself from America, from its history, from its ideology..and insist that he, Obama, is somehow unattached to America. He stands only for himself.
He’s not speaking for, not defending, not promoting America – for he simply does not see himself as part of America.

“U.S in Historic Shift on CO2
WASHINGTON — The Obama administration declared Friday that carbon dioxide and five other industrial emissions threaten the planet. The landmark decision lays the groundwork for federal efforts to cap carbon emissions — at a potential cost of billions of dollars to businesses and government.
The Environmental Protection Agency finding that the emissions endanger “the health and welfare of current and future generations” is “the first formal recognition by the U.S. government of the threats posed by climate change,” EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson wrote in a memo to her staff.
The finding could touch every corner of Americans’ lives, from the types of cars they drive to the homes they build. Along with carbon dioxide, the EPA named methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons and sulfur hexafluoride as deleterious to the environment. Even if the agency doesn’t use its powers under the Clean Air Act to curb greenhouse gases, Friday’s action improves the chances that Congress will move to create a more flexible mechanism to do so.”

“25,000 more Tamil protesters to disrupt Ottawa traffic: police
A flood of protesters expected to join the Tamil demonstrations on Parliament Hill Tuesday will likely disrupt traffic in Ottawa’s downtown, police warned Monday afternoon.
Protesters have said they expect an additional 25,000 Tamil supporters to join Tuesday’s demonstration as they step up efforts to draw the Canadian government’s attention to their cause.
Tamil supporters have asked the federal government to call for an end to the 25-year war in Sri Lanka that continues to claim the lives of Tamil civilians.
Now that members of Parliament are back in the House of Commons, organizers said this is their chance to be heard.
“Let the parliamentarians know what’s going on in Sri Lanka. Why are they delaying this much? All these people are dying,” said Palani Nadarajah, who arrived from Boston Sunday night to join the demonstrations in Ottawa.
For 15 days, protesters have been a presence on Parliament Hill in the hopes of speaking to a government representative.
They’ve blocked Wellington Street, begun hunger strikes and chanted their pleas, but government officials say they won’t speak to the protesters while they’re flying a flag they consider an emblem of the Tamil Tigers, which the government has listed as a terrorist group since 2006.
According to an Ottawa Police Service media release, no road closures have been planned, but parking restrictions go into effect near Parliament Hill on Monday night.
The release recommended that commuters look to avoid that area on Tuesday.
Tamil protesters say that if the government doesn’t meet with them on Tuesday, their protests will simply continue.”

*”Pro-LTTE self immolation fails in London for the second time
An attempt by a suspected pro- LTTE man to commit suicide as a protest ended up unsuccessfully for the second time in London when he had to be admitted to a hospital with “superficial” burns with his condition described as “not critical” on Friday.
The London Metropolitan Police said he was on fire for “a short time” just out side the British parliament in Parliament Square in Central London. It is suspected he was attempting for a self-immolation as a protest against the Sri Lankan security forces who are on the verge of defeating the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam ( LTTE) terrorist group in the Northern jungles of Sri Lanka.
A police spokesman said, “At approx 16.00 on Fri. 27 February a man was seen alight in Parliament Square SW1. Police officers came to his aid and the fire was extinguished. The 43 yr old was taken to a south London hospital – it is thought he may have suffered superficial burns and his condition is certainly NOT critical.”
On February 14, when more than 5000 Sri Lankans were demonstrating in front of the official residence of Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street against the terrorist group another pro-LTTE man attempted to burn himself by pouring an alleged fuel on his body but the police arrested him and is in the remand jail.
Days before that another suspected pro-LTTE man poured gasoline on his body and ignited him to death in Geneva, Switzerland. All are British residents.”
