And The Lincoln Memorial Coverage Is SOLD!

To the man with the best “O” in his logo…

WaPo;

Barack Obama’s inaugural organizing committee has struck deals with three television networks to the tune of more than $5 million, giving the networks exclusive access to inaugural events. But the arrangement is prompting questions about the president-elect’s efforts to raise money by turning his inauguration into made-for-TV productions.

Not that it matters. After Obama becomes President, everything America needs will come from money orchards. *

  1. Yeah, when Democrats spend money on glitz and glamour, no amount’s sufficient to adequately address the required size of the celebration.
But when Republicans even think of doing the same?  Fuggedaboudit!

  2. Obama is raising funds, and campaigning for, the 2012 elections. I hope I’m wrong but so far, he reminds me most of our very own Jean Chretien, yet another narcissistic individual focused on only one thing: himself and His power.

  3. so will any major network be covering this as “news” as opposed to covering it as “product”, something to be sold to the masses as just another product placement on the Tv movie of the week?
I didn’t think so, perhaps I’ll sew those buttons back on that old coat that I’ve been putting off.

  4. No.You are not wrong ET. But unlike the Cretin, Americans will NOT like double inflation, double digit unemployement, and no hope.Unlike us sheeple in Canuckistan, they tend to terminate f&&ked up governments rather quickly.

  5. I could care less about the coronation of the Big O.
Or is it I could not care less…
Anyway, you get the idea. I will be sure to miss all the hoopla. Blech!

  6. “We searched around to find broadcasters to reach as many people as possible,” Douglass said. “Our goal is to be as open and as accessible as possible.”
Should say: …to be as open and accessible as possible, as long as they show me the money!”

  7. Gawd, just crown the guy and get it over with already.
For a while I was tempted to play the opposite of “Spot the neutral, never mind positive, coverage of GWB” – “Spot the neutral, never mind negative, coverage of The One” but that would mean I’d have to actually pay attention to the next 4 years of tongue-bathing and my stomach just ain’t that strong.

  8. I’m not sure who sold rights to network TV, but I thought the presidency and all the ceremony behind it was owned by the people of the United States. So I hope that if they’re selling rights to this, they’re putting the money back into the public bank account. Not sure what gives a politician the right to do this kind of thing.

  9. Beware the person that is idolized by the masses. They are sure to bring corruption and heartbreak with them. Why have we never been allowed to see his birth certificate?

  10. Blogovaitch or something was just too quiet about it. Looks sneaky, this is right in the open opening bids for future bailouts. I really, really wish for a backlash where people treat TV like newspapers. Either news is news, a political opinion as news or outright well, what we want you to know.

  11. Remember, this is American Arts & Culture funding. You musent forget how important spending money on this stuff is to liberals. They’ll get very upset is you try and take away their entitlements.

  12. I have to echo Kathy Shaidle. Five million sounds pretty cheap. Besides, how do they keep anyone from covering a public event like this? The $5 million is probably just a bribe to get better camera locations, or maybe interviews at the after party.

  13. Toto, I’ve a feeling we’re not in Kansas any more.
……………. We must be over the rainbow!

  14. Q: What’s the difference between a coronation and an inauguration? A: When you’re B.O. a coronation is shorter and cheaper.
This is becoming surreal – like watching the prolonged angst after JFK’s assassination – but in reverse.

  15. Kate, there’s a story at Greenie Watch today about the big O’s new regulatory czar who is also an animal rights activist. Scary.

  16. The money is going to be used for his Basketball Court in the White House – should be just about enough money for that.
Democrats will have to have the best for him.

  17. Darned that evil free market, what with their whole giving people what they want! How else to explain the downfall of the National Post and Canwest? The end of the Western Standard’s print edition? Privately held media corporations buying the rights to broadcast to a nation of Obama-hungry citizens!
It’s like, so, you know, unfayurr!!!!

  18. It’s “exclusive” access all right, but just for the Big Leftist Media, who kissed Obama’s bumma so much and helped ensure his election by being his propaganda mouthpiece and bimbo cheerleader. Strange they have to pay, when Obama should be paying THEM!

  19. the humanoids who buy the obama commemorative plate and line the streets to get a glimpse of his car as he drives by on his way to the coronation are a sad reflection on our world. I may have had that type of hero worship towards Guy Lafleur when I was 9 or 10, but then again Lafleur has 5 stanley cup rings. I’m too young to remember but were people this pathetic in the turdeau years.

  20. “Change” is just around the corner, rolling into Washington on the rails. Is there an omen there?

  21. HosannaBama shouldnt try to emulate Abe too much.or
Abe and the Messiah rode in and didnt ride out.

  22. And I thought the Lincoln train trip was a bit over the top. What happened to the coronation, err inauguration being covered as a news event?

  23. Satire is dead, apparently.
It’s absolutely appalling for a President-Elect to sell “exclusive access” to an inauguration ceremony.
It’s just a big bowl of wrong. Ughh.

  24. Seems like I may be moving to western Canada before this is all over — wish that global warming thing was actually correct; I don’t like the cold.
That freaking PETA poser of Obama’s gives me a lot of cause to worry. Then there’s the proposed Obama volunteer corps of community organizers loyal and answerable only to him that’s again being heard about. And the special media priviledges to see the special extravaganza…
I’m really starting to get a bit concerned.

  26. I just finished watching a fabulous HBO series about John Adams, second POTUS. Aside from the wonderful production values, what struck me most was how far the USA (and by extension Canada) has strayed from the ideals and values that the signers of the Declaration of Independence and Framers of the Constitution held dear. Further, this form of “coronation” was as far away from their vision of the presidency as it could possibly be.

  27. The Big ‘O’ that used to make women swoon has been replaced by the Big ‘O’ on HBO, albeit with wide-screen to contain the ears.
Must watch orgasmic TV, brought to you by the marriage of liberals to your tax dollars.

  28. Geez, I was just over at the local mall picking up a few things and every TV in every store (that had a TV) was tuned to some sort of Obamarama festivity. Funniest comment I heard (OK, it made me gag a bit) was some guy saying that the actors that will show up tomorrow are there to deliver the speeches because they are so good at communicating and getting their point across (and spreading a load of BS convincingly) and the musicians were there to show how many famous and influential people are in support of BO. Somebody please kill me now….

  29. Will we see his smiling visage at every Walmart & Cosco in North America?
For a Chicago Player , all this must seem like he inherited Fort Knox.

  30. Just listened to his kickoff speech before his train journey.
I think he learned a lot from excellent orators at his churches – but I really do wonder how deep his waters run.
A few things from what I listened to:
    1. He mentioned “blood sweat and tears”. No toil. Nice nod to David Clayton-Thomas, too bad for Winston Churchill
    2. He talked about the colonists back in 1776 defeating the greatest navy in the history of the world. Doesn’t say too much for the modern US navy, eh?
    3. He talked about “a North American continent in crisis”. Um, maybe we didn’t get the memo, but here in Canada we’re not in crisis mode yet, thanks.

  31. Why didn’t he go the whole 9 yards and use the Democrat’s mascot instead of a train?
To paraphrase a (slightly) more famous triumphal entry:
“……As Barack Obama rode (his ass) into Washington, the people spread their coats in front of Him and greeted Him with palm branches………..”
    http://www.christianbiblereference.org/story_PalmSunday.htm
(And could it be the same fawning media here in Canada that ridiculed Stockwell Day for riding a jet ski to a news conference?)

“3. He talked about “a North American continent in crisis”. Um, maybe we didn’t get the memo, but here in Canada we’re not in crisis mode yet, thanks.”
Hey! Back off and give the guy a chance. He’ll get to you as soon as he can. He has a crown to accept first.

  33. and the demoCRAPS were just latherin at the chops when Bush’s inauguration cost so much, which is less than the security costs of the O’s inauuration

  34. According to yet another “fluff” speech today, his priority is to rid us of our “ideology, small thinking and bigotry” in other words anyone who aligns themselves with a conservative view point. Hmm wonder what he is going to use that “National Security Force” for that he pledged to give more financial backing and power to than the military. Seems like his ideology is OK though and all should adopt it, after all he did call for “a new declaration of independence” would not be surprise if he fakes his own resurrection from the dead.

  35. So the networks just gave the Big Owe 5 million bucks – What’s in it for them? Is the Big Owe going to bail out the Big 3 networks because their ratings are down? The ‘exclusive’ just doesn’t cut it for an adequate explanation. Could we have yet another Owe scandal to go with all the other Owe scandals.

  36. ‘I’m too young to remember but were people this pathetic in the turdeau years.’ Not quite as goofy, bdogginit, only because there were sane Greatest Generation people and their forefathers still injecting some sanity into the ‘mini man worship’ crowd.
It was over 50% women (of all ages) swooning and feeling indecent ‘tingles’ in various regions of their bodies over turdo -older men saw him as the empty suit he was and voted for the best man to run the country: Mr. Stanfield. If 18 year olds had not been given the vote we would have never had Turdo in 1968 because the spoiled boomers (some boys included) would have been kept off the electoral list. Ironically, it was the WWII vets who pushed for lowering the age – they had not been allowed to vote when they were fighting WWII and they figured if a man was old enough to die for his country, he was old enough to vote for the Prime Minister of his country. The boomer boys and girls were not young men and women like the Greatest Generation had been at the same age though; the Communists were already infiltrating the school system and irresponsible hippies were squandering their youth with Free love, drugs and strident demands for ‘free everything’. Trudeau was the limp wristed persona of all those hippie’s hallucinations. Some of the hippies later grew up and regretted the stupidity of their actions because Canada was much poorer in every way after we finally got rid of Trudeau ..but the damage was already done…it lingers to this day.
I hope USA does not suffer the same self denigration and failure with their embarrassing behavior over a very dangerous, very left wing choice. The charade – even the train ‘trip’ – has alarm bells sounding off in my head because it is so eerily like the ‘voyage of PET’ when he took over (he went on a cross Canada ‘trip’, pausing to give some citizens ‘the finger’, if they did not fall to the ground in adoration.
We had Eric Nielson to fight the PET – who is standing up for USA? Hope someone pops up SOON. Americans better watch their Constitution – Turdo attempted to shred Canada’s. He did major damage but Eric Nielson saved us from becomming state slaves.

  37. “He mentioned “blood sweat and tears.” I did not realize he was giving a talk today — I am sorry I missed it. I found out most recently that Obama supposedly uses hypnotic techniques in his speeches — sounds crazy, I know, but the research on this is very thorough and based on the work of Milton Erickson and it is totally real if anyone knows anything about neurolinguistic programming. Here is an interesting link — not new, so I gather this stuff has been circulating, but I managed to miss it earlier: http://skriztivism.blogspot.com/2009/01/examination-of-obamas-use-of-hidden.html
I am planning on watching on Tuesday to see if I can pick up on what he is doing.

  38. Can you imagine how much he can get for the Lincoln Bedroom now?
On second thought, by the way he’s identifying with Lincoln, I think that bedroom is taken.

  39. Any doubts about the rampant spread of Leftoiditis in the land?
I’m embarrassed by the media’s fawning over Obama without any clue about him other than he’s a Democrat. Republican McCain would be treated to an entirely different coverage.
There are some signs he may disappoint the Lefty moonbat swooners.
They’re troubled he’s coming to Canada first and may become friendly with our PM. They would have much preferred he went to Mexico first so they could fill their rags and airwaves with crap about our PM being snubbed.

  40. Jema 54, I agree—and, I’m happy to say, I NEVER voted for our very own Obama, Trudeau: honestly!
The Charter is his long lasting legacy to us. It emphasizes rights over responsibilities and has been used by our lefty, activist judges over and over to end run Parliament (Canada’s now an oligarchy, not a democracy) and to both hog tie responsible, law abiding citizens, while extending outlandish rights to the least responsible, most vociferous, and sometimes criminal, amongst us. I believe the Charter was used to enable the formation of our very own kangaroo courts and their henchpeople—or should I say Lynchpeople!—the Human Rights (sic) Commissions.
Trudeau worked it that the amending formula is so difficult, amendments have almost no chance of passing: the “7/50 formula”. From Wikipedia: “Amendments can only be passed by the Canadian House of Commons, the Senate, and a TWO THIRDS MAJORITY OF THE PROVINCIAL LEGISLATURES REPRESENTING AT LEAST 50% OF THE NATIONAL POPULATION. . .” (emphasis mine)
Then there’s Section 33, the Notwithstanding Clause, whereby, notwithstanding the court ruling, a legislature may continue to administer a law it has duly passed, for the next five years, even though the Supreme Court has deemed it unconstitutional. (I’m not sure what happens next! Quebec has protected its unconstitutional language laws in this manner.)
The MSM and the Liberals have demonized the use of Section 33, so that Canadians are under the impression that to use it is undemocratic. In fact, Paul Martin—what an idiot!—said off the cuff, in one of the leadership debates, that he’d get rid of the Notwithstanding Clause: as if he had the jurisdiction to do such a thing!
Using the Notwithstanding Clause is, in fact, democracy in action: whether one approves of a particular law or not, Section 33 removes power from our non-elected courts and returns power to our ELECTED legislatures.
Our politicians need to grow a pair—dream on!—and educate Canadians about the vital role of Section 33 in preserving our democratic freedoms. IF politicians would smack down our courts—instead of the other way around—by using Section 33 on a regular basis, I believe the courts would curb their ambitions to reign over us and be more circumspect in their rulings.
Via his Frankenstein Monster, the Charter, Trudeau’s still breathing down our necks. Only our lily livered politicians can reverse this. But, with the lying, left wing parties and their accomplices in the MSM misleading gullible Canadians about the nature of Section 33, saying it is undemocratic and unCharter-like—when it’s actually PART of the Charter!—this avenue seems pretty unlikely.
    Oh, oh Canada!
The US has a few more checks and balances than we do. Maybe this will modify the damage the Obamessiah will do. Let’s hope so.

  41. We should now be pointing out the height of desperation reached by Paul Martin on his last stand attempt to hold power. He was going to scrap the Notwithstanding clause. Never mind it was critical to having all signatures on the Charter.
How he would do that without tearing down the Charter he probably had no clue. He was too busy spreading lies and worrying about keeping power at all costs.
If Paulie is out running about to help Iggy, Iggy would be better to go hide in some of the barns he likes the smell of than have help from him. It may be too late, Iggy is already showing signs of the Mr. Dithers syndrome.

  42. after 4 years are they going to paint the washington monument black?
after Clinton they considered draping it in rubber.
