  2. Just checked out the financial markets. The Dow is having a pretty good day; up close to 250 points.
    The TSX, on the other hand, is barely breaking even after having been down over 100 points.
    This kind of divergence is generally rare.
    But it has nothing to do with the coalition taking power, right?

When ask about the seperatists, the said that they people should instead focus not on the Bloc members of the coalition, but rather the strong liberals who are fighting for the well being of Canadians.

  20. Stephen Taylor was interviewed on the CityTV telephone poll vox pop show via the Net. From what I saw while flipping around elsewhere (like seeing Justin get into bed with the Separatists talking to Duffy), almost all of the CityTV callers were against the coalition.
    Current total for the phone poll (despite its “Proposition 8” pseudo-double-negative phrasing):
    1,314 Yes, it’s undemocratic
    1,163 No, it’s not undemocratic
    I believe the phone poll is active all day long, so you might as well call even if you come to this thread later in the day.

  21. I fear that Dion will appoint Liberal and NDP senators to fill the current vacancies. This will further delay any hope of reforming the Senate in my lifetime. Even if this coalition ultimately proves to be the death knell for the Liberal Party at the polls, they may be able to thwart good governance through the (very) Red Chamber.

  23. The electorate don’t vote for a government, they vote for a parliament. Parliament then forms a government. This rule allows for the coalition to form A GOVERNMENT because parliament has the right to do so. This is true because Harper had to ask the GG to form a government.
    Now that Parliament is wanting to form another government, Harper disagrees with the process and will now start a campaign to “misinform” the canadian public.
    Suck it up all u Large C conervatives you’ve been outplayed and outwitted by Dion and Layton.

  27. On CKNW talk radio this morning, the sentiments are running 9 – 1 against Le Cabal de Trois. Yet there’s always that one … in this case it was an elitist liberal woman who said that the opposition to The Coalition is strictly “a bunch of radicals”.
    If it’s “radical” to be outraged that the political will of Canadians is being discarded just 49 days after an election then I’m guilty.
    If it’s “radical” to be outraged that a core part of this Unholy Alliance is the Bloc Quebecois, a party devoted to the destruction of Canada then I’m guilty.
    If it’s “radical” to demand that another election be held to let Canadians decide whether their future should be determined by Dion as PM, Layton as Finance Minister, and Duceppe as Godfather then I’m guilty.

  30. Rory, Lawrence Cannon on Mike Duffy also said that rumor has it that PQ leader Marois bragged to French reporters in Quebec that Duceppe has also squeezed another $1 billion more for Quebec in federal equalization payments from the Coalition of Liars and Thieves.
    That would be in addition to the $16 billion Quebec already gets.
    Western Canada doesn’t need to pay for crap like this anymore.
    Western Canadians need to get on the talk shows and the blower and forcefully tell your Premiers that you want to stop all payments to federal equalization immediately if not sooner.

  32. Tax revolt is right. Everyone should right now sign the forms to give to your employers NOT to withold the Federal tax from your paychecks.
    You can then bank the amount you would owe a legitimate government in one of those new Tax Free Savings Accounts Harper brought in starting on Jan. 1st.
    Also, move your accounts to provincial credit unions as I think our financial sector will be in calamity and the national lenders will be swamped with giving money to Quebec and Ontario.
    Keep your money and your business money in your own province so they can lend locally.
    Any other financial advice to build that notorious firewall so the rest of the country does not get r aped again ?

    The economy is so endangered that only a coalition of the left can save it.
    Not so endangered though, as to require austerity from these same coalition participants themselves, on the political party pay for vote scheme. The economy is also robust enough to weather civil servant strikes.
    I guess the economy is in such dire straits that all Canadians must accept less, except for the so called white knight saviours and their union friends.

  36. Economic disaster?
    Canada’s GDP grew by 1.3% in the last quarter!
    Further stimulation under those circumstances would lead to another economic evil: Inflation!
    “No economic stimulus package” is NOT a legitimate argument because stimulus is not needed and at this juncture would be detrimental!
    The only economic “disaster” that will result is if those 3.1 turds get their hands on the purse strings!

The other thing about the “economic disaster needing immediate attention” being crap is that we shouldn’t do anything until we know exactly what the new Obama Administration is going to be doing in the U.S. (our largest trading partner by far) and that won’t happen until after January 21st. It would be moronic to have a new budget including a huge-spending “economic stimulus” component now even if the sky was falling in Canada!

  43. Several posters are referring to the next election a few months away at most. What if there isn’t a next election after this coup? What if these socialist turds enact legislation to have the date changed to at least five years from now?
    Dion is given the PM post by his fellow traitors and then why should he give it up next May? He is now the PM and the Liberals are in power again and isn’t that what Liberals always want so why have a leadership change? The fact that the Bloc is calling the shots, a mere triffle.
    If this coalition of these political thugs takes place Canada will be torn apart as it will go into an economic blackhole like we have never seen before. The decimation wreaked on Ontario by Rae will be a cloudy day by comparison. Yet we see the leftists, the CBC and the MSM all cheering the demise of our democracy like this is a good thing.
    What’s next a visit by Chavez and the Russian fleet!

  46. Ontario wants to give Toronto to Quebec and separate with the west.
    51 seats here went Conservative.
    Anyway, even if this unlikely event happens, it will spell majorities for the Conservatives for many years to come.
    There’s no reason Harper couldn’t fill the senate vacancies before any confidence vote.
    As an aside. The British are the founding power of this nation, and as the french GG may decide to give it back to the French, can the Queen overrule her?
