Say it ain’t so Joe:
In what has now become a disturbing pattern, the Alaska governor seems either unable or unwilling to avoid embarrassing statements that are often as untrue as they are outrageous. Recently, for example, in an exclusive interview with news anchor Katie Couric, Palin gushed, “When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk about the, you know, princes of greed. He said, ‘Look, here’s what happened.’ ” Apparently the former Alaskan beauty queen failed to realize that in 1929 there was neither widespread television nor was Franklin Roosevelt even President.

Boy, this Sarah Biden seems really loopy. Next thing you know, she’ll be telling people that CO2 in the air is a global catastrophe, and the best way to get rid of it is to cut some down trees.
It’s clear as glass, the MSM, that is ALL every last arm of the MSM, is in the pocket of Barry. It’s too late and would be futile to do anything about it.
Except one thing. Urge Americans, person to person, to make the right choice in the voting booth. Vote McCain/Palin.
I will.
Come my little democrats, pet the smiling crocodile.
I have to amend that. Come my little democrats, down the garden path,at the end, you can pet the smiling crocdile.
Spell chick, why habe you forsaken me?
Spell chick is a fickle mattress, Wally. She will forsake you in the Enid, every time;)
Who the hell is Sarah Biden?
Wasn’t the Roosevelt on TV in 1929 Joe Biden’s statement?
I get the feeling that this Hanson fellow doesn’t like Palin. But what’s his point with the Sarah Biden headline?
someone explain sarcasm to john nicklin, gently please.
Yup, here it is Biden on Roosevelt. Biden said it. So where does Hanson get off attributing the statement to Palin?
If you clicked the link, you would have seen that it is a complete parody of what Biden has said and what the MSM would report if Sarah Palin had said the same things.
I did click the link, I guess I just missed his sarchasm. If he was trying to be helpful to the McCain-Palin ticket, he went about it in a very unhelpful way. I can see that post being picked up by the other side and used without the “parody” line at the bottom.
cal2
If that’s what passes for sarchasm these days, its a pretty poor attempt. If you have to explain that its a parody, it kind of loses something in the process.
John Nicklin: “If you have to explain that its a parody, it kind of loses something in the process.”
You missed it – no big deal. Nobody bats a 1000 … you and the author included.
Big nuggets we’re findin’

LEAVE HER ALONE! LEAVE HER ALONE!! OH GOD PLEASE LEAVE HER ALONE!!!!! BWAAA HAA HA HA WAAAAA………..
This is a cross post (from the Tom Clark thread), in response to a person called Geoff, who fell for this column, at face value, hook, line, and sinker. ET pointed out it was a PARODY–not the same as sarcasm. Hanson’s piece is a hoot–but not if people take it seriously! I think the fact that it’s a parody–perhaps with an explanation–should be at the top of the column, not at the bottom–as we shall see.
Here’s what I said:
Thanks for the link, Geoff. I guess you didn’t make it to the end of the article, where, as ET points out, it said, “This PARODY [emphasis mine] is by NRO contributor Victor Davis Hanson, a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution”.
It seems that Hanson has made a collage of the gaffes of the main DEMOCRATIC contenders for the office of POTUS and VP and—as the MSM would love to do, and, by inference, often does—blame Sarah Palin and make her look like the foolish one.
One example: “The same uncertainty seems to extend to foreign policy. Under cross-examination, Palin appeared confused about her own recent trips abroad, first claiming that her helicopter had ‘been forced down’ in Afghanistan, although other passengers suggested the landing was a routine cautionary measure to avoid a possible snowstorm. Palin likewise had alleged that she was shot at while in Baghdad’s Green Zone, although there was no evidence from her security detail that she had, in fact, come under hostile fire.”
I know for sure that this gaffe—as in lie—was made by Hillary, not Sarah.
Here’s more: “The recently-elected Governor Palin was further rattled by media scrutiny, when, in a moment of embarrassing candor, she confessed, “Mitt Romney is as qualified or more qualified than I am to be vice president of the United States of America. Quite frankly he might have been a better pick than me.” [Biden’s the one who made that claim—referring to Hillary as his possible better.] That confession followed an earlier deer-in-the-headlights moment, when the nearly hysterical Palin urged a wheel-chair bound state legislator to rise: ‘Sally, stand up, let the people see you!’” Again, it’s Joe Biden who made this blunder.
Hanson ends his parody, “No wonder rumors mount that Sen. McCain is now seeking a possible graceful exit for the gaffe-prone Palin, even as the Obama campaign continues to make the contrast with their own sober and circumspect Joe Biden”!!!!
Geoff got caught out because, Geoff, you can fool some conservatives some of the time, but you can fool most MSM propaganda-fed and ignorant liberals most of the time. If Geoff had been knowledgeable about this campaign, he’d have been able to “Pick the mismatches” all by himself. (But, seeing as he didn’t apparently, read the whole article, I guess that would make sorting out the smoke and mirrors difficult.)
I’ll probably start getting emails quoting parts of that parody from my left-wing friends who are insanely upset that I am voting Republican.
I’ve already received a bunch of the myths of Sarah Palin sent to me as fact.
They’ve got the media, the rock stars, hollywood, every known moonbat brigade, the truth police, 8 years of Bush and the whole world on their side.
What could possibly go wrong?
Democracy is so unfair.
If you read carefully you will find that there is a subtle clue in the postscript of this article, which will lead one to see that it was in fact a parody. I will paste it below. See if you can spot the clue.
“This parody is by NRO contributor Victor Davis Hanson, a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution.”
anyone who relies on MSM for their news wouldn’t realize that this is a parody. my first thought was most people who are more likely to watch Tina Fey’s Sarah Palin than the real one will just nod their heads in agreement with the article thinking “Wow she’s dumber than I thought, It’s a good thing Obama will save us” while the parody thing flies right over their heads.
It matters not Karl.
By week’s end this will be carved in granite fact.
Mark my words.
That is about it AtlanticJim. Most people will only scan the story and arrive at that conclusion.
Here is the comment that I email Hansen. I don’t think I will get a return email thanking me. HAHA
Nice parody asswipe. We in the oil patch have a word for people like you, “IDIOT STICK”. If you wanted to be the comedian of the MSM you should have put the title and parody at the top of page in bold black letters. I have no say in your election but I can spot a low life coyote in the grass when he is slinking around.
If you want to contribute to the “American People”, why are you not reporting on the economic structure and actually telling factual information of how the common people is getting screwed over.
Is this above your pay-grade or is that your are above the class of people that are contributing to society.
In case you are wondering about the “ASSWIPE” word. Here is the definition: ASSWIPE – ONE STEP LOWER THAN AN ASSHOLE BUT ONE STEP ABOVE THE TURD AND BOTH GET FLUSHED DOWN TO THE SEWER.
In case you are wondering about the “IDIOT STICK” word. Here is the definition: A PERSON WHO IS TO MUCH OF A MORON “LEFT OR RIGHT ELETIES CLASS” TO WIPE ONES OWN ASS.
At least some in the MSM retain their integrity. From WSJ: Biden’s Fantasy World
In the popular media wisdom, Sarah Palin is the neophyte who knows nothing about foreign policy while Joe Biden is the savvy diplomatic pro. Then what are we to make of Mr. Biden’s fantastic debate voyage last week when he made factual claims that would have got Mrs. Palin mocked from New York to Los Angeles?
…
Closer to home, the Delaware blarney stone also invited Americans to join him at “Katie’s restaurant” in Wilmington to witness middle-class struggles. Just one problem: Katie’s closed in the 1980s. The mistake is more than a memory lapse because it exposes how phony is Mr. Biden’s attempt to pose for this campaign as Lunchbucket Joe…
Now that just doesn’t make any sense. “”IDIOT STICK” is what you beat the idiots with…you rig pigs have got it wrong again.
Interesting the link seem to be broken, now the lefty loos canb’t see who actually said the idiotic quote.
Edward Teach
No, actually us “rig pigs” don’t have it wrong. When you are watching a person work and are calling him an “IDIOT STICK” for the week. He is not there the next week.
the parody is making fun of the MSM , not Palin or Biden.
Hey, lookout, who is this “Geoff” guy? I might vote for him, if he had a good enough sign…
John Nicklin:
WHOOO-OOOO-SHHHHHH
That is the sound of a joke passing 30,000 feet over your head.
Crossposted from where you got this the first time:
Holy jeez. Of course I read the whole article. It took me one paragraph to determine that it was a parody. If it took you to the end you are pretty thick!
I though people were smarter around here. The title gives it away: Sarah Biden.
Given an ounce of intelligence you would have noted that throughout the article it is pretty much a search “Biden” replace with “Palin”
Thanks for coming out.

Since you (Republicans) are looking for, and need EVERY voter you can enlist, mocking the only-slightly-informed, as opposed to presenting cogent arguments, is most definitely counter productive.
Yes, the parody was slightly amusing, and yes the title was a strong clue, but why in hell would you want to alienate ANY readers?!
Well, Geoff, here’s your original post to which I was responding:
“Here’s the definitive well written summary of Palin’s [sic] gaffe’s [sic].
“Sarah Biden, Vice-Presidential meltdown.
By Victor Davis Hanson

Lately, after reading chapter and verse here about the true nature of this colunm, you claim you knew it was a parody all along.
Right . . .
the parody is making fun of the MSM , not Palin or Biden.

I think that was what NRO wanted it to be thought as but I think that a deeper plant has this effect.
I think you people missed the point of the article. I think that was what it wanted to be thought as I do believe it’s called “cognitive reading”. Think of who has been in the news, “Sarah”. How many people picked this copy up and quickly scanned news story and related just name “Sarah” to everyday news from weekend.
Sarah has made headlines since debate.
Biden has disappeared.
Whats the population going to work, subway, taxi, bus, walking, driving. How many of these actually read every word. Scanning news and relating word to name and associating news to name only.
Sarah Biden appears at top. Not anywhere in story does Sarah Biden appear.
Sarah, Palin, Sarah Palin, Gov. Sarah Palin and are linked to McCain throughout article.
Biden, mentioned three times
Obama, Mentioned four times
Obama/ Biden linked together at bottom of article.
The reason I used “cognitive reading” is, I had a lot of oil well programs for a winter project and boss told me to read instead of scan. Most were the same but a few were different.
