Are We Feeling Guilty Yet?

Light the barbecue and drown a Bangladeshi, parch an Ethiopian, and starve a New Guinean.
Kate Raworth of Oxfam International recently authored a 34-page report that began:

“In failing to tackle climate change with urgency, rich countries are effectively violating the human rights of millions of the world’s poorest people.“
[…]
creating floods, droughts, hurricanes, sea-level rise, and seasonal unpredictability. The result is failed harvests, disappearing islands, destroyed homes, water scarcity, and deepening health crises, which are undermining millions of peoples’ rights to life, security, food, water, health, shelter, and culture.

I’d say “cry me a river”, but that’d just contribute to rising sea levels. I[‘m sure that famine, flood, and all manner of nature caused sorrow were with us long before Al Gore invented the internet … and AGW.
This could be fun … “Rob a Limo-Liberal … save an island!”

  1. And all this time while those same bunch of blabbering jerks are stuffing their ugly bloated faces dont you get tired of these liberal jackasses and their stupid idead WHY DONT THEY JUST SHUT UP

  2. Trailer-trash can wreak that much destruction on the earth and the ruling intelligencia cannot stop them?
The sky is falling! The sky is falling!
    We’re all doomed.

  3. “…. failed harvests, disappearing islands, destroyed homes, water scarcity, and deepening health crises, which are undermining millions of peoples’ rights to life, security, food, water, health, shelter, and culture.”
Welcome to the age old planet earth.

  4. How strange that these effects are only showing up in poor nations. It must be that eeevil GW Bush – his weather control satellites are shifting the effects of AGW to Africa and Asia! What else could explain such a strange disparity?

  5. People of her ilk, the lefties, gave a bye on Kyoto to China and India, excluding those countries, and several other large countries with massive populations, from any GHG reduction targets. Using Bangladesh as an example because of the devastating cyclone that hit that country this past May, China and India sandwich that country, but they’re not sited, no, just the “rich”, evil, western countries. Seems to me that, if GHG’s are disrupting normal weather patterns that those two countries in particular would effect Bangladesh’s weather patterns more than ours would.

  6. O K we all move into caves forget we “discovered fire” organize a boarding party kick AL gores fat ass of his 100′ yacht we considered burning him at the stake but the resulting conflagration would have killed half the polar bears in Alaska. Flatten all our houses, including Big Al’s and sokookie who owns what 3,4 ? Shut down all our industry, vehicles etc. You know what? even if we went to such extremes, the third world would still suck, something to do with not so benevolent dictators I’m thinking. Oh and leftard organizations jetting all over the globe to talk and meet other elites to plan saving the world enough of that tele conference you idiots! I know it will put you a long way from the buffet but hey gotta start somewhere. There I feel so much better I gonna go some ribs some beer flash up the barbie and enjoy my house before Lizzie and her little green munchkins show up with a wrecking ball. Yup gonna flash up the S U V and go burn some hydrocarbons. Not so stupid eh?
    Cheers Bubba

  7. I’m worried about climate change, as it gets colder here in Alberta I am thinking about those in warmer climates like Bangladesh and how lucky they really are, it will soon be 25 below and I was told that this is called winter something those people don’t have, how swell, earlier in May the wizard David Phillips said I could expect warmer and warmer temps from June to August here and it was warmer than it is now so he was right, how smart these people are. With all these smart people guiding me I have nothing to worry about, I will buy a coat and also shorts, thank god for leftys as they guide my rudderless life. Now I must fire up my big BarBQ, drop a big home raised steak on er, woof it down jump in my big GM and throw the heater on high and take my kids to towm for fun.

  8. well I wasn’t going to BBQ this weekend, but now I’m gonna DRIVE over to Costco, load up from the MEAT section and then burn off a tank of propane.
I’m sure the UN will have me under observation

  9. Give me a break. We’ve been waiting for 10 yrs for the global warming climate change threat. Every months they change the name cause nothing has happened. Oh NO!!!…It’s September in Ottawa and it’s getting cloder!…Climate change…..

  10. Give me a break. We’ve been waiting for 10 yrs for the global warming climate change threat. Every months they change the name cause nothing has happened. Oh NO!!!…It’s September in Ottawa and it’s getting colder!…Climate change…..

  12. OH thanks for setting me straight! That’s why places like North Korea,Haiti,Zimbabwe are the way they are! I’m going to run downstairs right now, turn off the A/C and lift FOUR africans out of poverty!

  13. “It must be that eeevil GW Bush – his weather control satellites are shifting the effects of AGW to Africa and Asia!”
GWB is pure evil, why else would he keep an aquarium with frickin’ sharks with frickin’ laser beams attached to their frickin’ heads in the Whitehouse.

  14. If I were the leader of the countries named in this tear-jerker, I would be doing all I could to help the pismire like hoards of humanity who are so hard put to it. However, I am just a guy in Canada with an inherent immunity to guilt over the sad affairs of complete strangers.
If I can find my rosin, I will break out the violin and fiddle while Bangladeshi floods, Ethiopia parches and New Guinean starves.
I just can’t help them from here. In fact no one can help them from anywhere. There are too many of them with no economic prospects and uncaring governments.
We all have a human right to live as long and as well as we can, but we don’t actually have a human right (or obligation) to see that others do the same. That’s it for human rights in reality. However in the fantasy of the leftist world we all have a human right to everyone else’s money, compassion and care.
If we did what the left wants us to do (although, I am sure they don’t really want us to anything but pay more tax to create more government agencies and jobs for them) we would all be working full time for a non-profit to the point that no real work could possible done at all. We would quickly run out ‘stuff’ and then we can all parch, drown and starve with the pismire populations.
I know, I know, reality is so cruel and mean and I am so awful for stating it.

  15. So now at least they are saying what they have been screaming for years wasn’t happening – the Antarctic Ice Sheet is expanding . . no more “the poles are melting”
But now they blame it on Global Warming !! Go figure
The Antarctic wintertime ice extent increased…at a rate of 0.6% per decade” from 1979 to 2006, says Donald Cavalieri, a senior research scientist at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland.

  16. Well thank you Kate Raworth for setting me straight.I will now put the condom on the end of the broom, and screw my silly brains out, preventing more people being born into a place,or country, that CANNOT support them.Oh.And the barbie will be fired up,using wood, cut from my backyard. You? Well.Throw anthor Bangli on the fire, and enjoy,as you suck back your wine and enjoy your shrimp.

  17. i think the big question is, how do the ethiopians and them survive cooling? never mind
They say there’s ice on Mars but is that a misdirection to make us feel colder, as Cheney fries us and steals our money. Do we need to say Thank God for the UN and Gores thermodynamic inventions? Is it that the hurricane season coincides with the end of summer and elections are in full swing and oil prices rise and greenweenies are on the prowl and harper considers a grreen shaft, or something else. Why doesnt the Canadian gunbint allow more Sahara nomads to rent attic space in TO and Muntreal, at least its less space for muzzies and europeans.

  18. “In failing to tackle climate change with urgency, rich countries …”
Remember what McCain said in his acceptance speech about not giving money to countries that don’t like us anyway?
If people here think Kyoto is a scam (and it is) start digging into NGO’s like Oxfam for where the money went.
There are reasons the UN wants Obama in the white house. The UN wants the “change” from an Oil for Food scam back to a Money for Guilt scam.
McCain scares the left more with cutting up that UN debit card, than outright killing Kyoto and Gore. If he gets elected the card and Kyoto are gone in due time due to lack of funding.
    Good luck John and Sarah.

  19. Oh shit, the Farmers Almanack has predicted the start of global cooling.
Our barbeque is hooked up to our house natural gas and I have been known in the past to accidentally leave it on, sometimes for days.
Think I’ll go out and let er go for a week or two.
    Horny Toad

  20. Read THIS by an MP in New Zealand. He is part of a group or party called ACT. I cannot find, on their web page, what A C T stands for. Is it a command or an acronym?
Anyway, as Canadians we can only envy our Southern neighbours.

  21. You would think, given this news, that liberals in the US would be all for keeping Mexicans in Mexico where their carbon footprint is so much smaller. You would think so, but you would be wrong.
BTW, we need a thread on Obama’s ad about McCain not being able to use a computer. He can’t use one because he was beaten so severely by the Viet Cong that he cant even comb his own hair, much less type. He can use a mouse in a limited way.
The leftards are coming up with lines like Stephen Hawking can use a computer.. etc, it is unbelievable. Come on Kate, it would be a laugh a minute.

  22. Hey, as a tyoical North American “rich b-t-h”, whatever, I can control a lot of things, climate isn’t one of them.
If most of the world is a sewer of poverty and despair while I’m out there working my butt off, clipping coupons and value shopping at Walmart, trust me, it isn’t the climate that put them there, it’s the rotten governments that they have. I live in tropical Florida where the weather is awful with a very long hot summer, but, the gov’t is good. My economic fate isn’t tied to the thermometer as much as the system I live in.
Nice try and typical of Oxfam, another wasted lefty NGO that sucks up your aid money and then moans how degenerate and awful their donors are.
I stopped giving to them years ago.

  23. Does this same sanctimonious Kate Raworth give a second thought to “Silent Spring” and the untold death and devastation wrought upon the people of the third world by the banning of DDT for malaria control; or the impoverishment and death from hunger arising from EU bans on imports of genetically modified crops from the third world?

  24. This summer is the worst ever. We did not go to swim in lake Erie at all – too cold for our spoiled hides. The produce department prices sound ridiculous. I long for the good old days of global warming!

  25. dion, may, raworth, big al, suzoookie, jack layton, fat moore, obama,…..
OK, who left the cage door open?????

  26. Hey Aaron, I finally saw those lakes in the summer and my kids swam up in Georgian bay. Those lakes are huge! You fly over Superior and Huron for over 2 hours, any ecowhaco that thinks we can cause climate change should be locked up with the great Sokookie. These people have had enough ink time and tree killing fun with their great hoax, time for the MSM to let it go, its like the parrot in the old Monty Python skit, its bloody well dead.

  27. so for years they have been screaming about the melting Antarctic Ice sheets . . casued of course by AGW.
Now they have to finally admit what has been ridiculed for years . . the Antarctic Ice Sheets are GROWING, have been for years.
So now they say that is caused by AGW.
“The Antarctic wintertime ice extent increased…at a rate of 0.6% per decade” from 1979 to 2006, says Donald Cavalieri, a senior research scientist at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland. … Since 1979 … the average year-round ice extent has risen too.”

  28. “drown a Bangladeshi, parch an Ethiopian, and starve a New Guinean.”
You don’t suppose that maybe, just maybe, the precarious existence of these peoples has more to do with the venal, corrupt, and incompetent louts that they elect for governments (or choose not to overthrow), than it does with whether or not I run my gas grill or garden tractor?

  29. So, what is Miss “My-Daddy-is-Rich-and-That’s-How-I-Got-My-Job” doing about the starving millions of the third world? Driving a what? Travelling where for vacations in what airplane? Spending more money on her cell phone and shoes than she does for contributions to the poor anywhere? Has an electric bill larger than the national budget of what third world nation? What famous Greenies banned DDT directly causing how many millions of deaths in Africa? What politican philosophy accounts for more abortions of healthy fetuses than any other? Progressives, you say? Bingo. Yeah, criticize us, you hypocrit!

  30. Oxfam? Gahhhh. What would help is if they all jumped into their Range Rovers, drove into the sea and drowned. Good riddance.
Africa has the most abundant natural resources of any continent. Also overgrazed, destroyed landscapes thanks to communal land ownership, excess goats, and inefficient cattle. Rule by gangsters who consider anyone outside their clique rumoured to have a few extra dollars as a threat to their rule. Yep climate change is the problem for sure.

  31. I think it’s all Dion’s fault with that super-pollutin’ plane he’s in.His ‘save the planet tour’ isn’t going too well, and Don Martin’s latest has the pitiful tally (up at bourque)…Martin wondering where all the enviro-freaks are.

  32. South Korea, Japan, Singapore… all those places were third world states relatively a few years ago in the grand scheme of things.
    Suddenly they got rich.
    I don’t think it was from Oxfam…
I think it was called adopting capitalism, property rights, and relatively uncorrupt governments.
But hey, what do I know? Its only worked for the rest of the first world.
Nah I think I’ll go with donating more hard earned money to these NGOs and UN who piss them away on corrupt dictators, glossy paper, and “community organizers”.

  33. Here (http://www.columbia.edu/~jeh1/mailings/20080910_Kingsnorth.pdf) you can find a copy of the testimony of James Hansen at the trial of the six “climate activists” who were acquitted of doing $65,000 in damage to a UK coal plant. The scientist who is Al Gores main mouthpiece, has now descended to supporting environmental terrorists. When Suziki and his ilk are talking about criminalization of carbon abusers, they are, sadly, serious. When will this insanity stop?

  34. It seems clear that there is not one single organisation such as Oxfam, Amnesty International and all the others that has not been hijacked by brain-dead hard Left moon-bats. These organisations were originally humanitarian and had noble objectives, if some what misguided at times. What a shame they have become a haven for idiots.
In this case here is a woman who does not have a clue about climate change or anything else spouting off absolute rubbish without blinking. This is why I refuse to donate to any of these.

  35. 2 comments:
    1. I have said, to the horrified responses of friends and colleagues, that you would probably help a starving african village more, not by sending food, but by sending hand guns and crates of ammunition so they could take their country out of the hands of the scumbags who rule over them and prevent them from having a good life.
    2. In order to prevent climate change, one has to invent PLANETARY WEATHER CONTROL! Weather is incredibly complex it can not even be predicted accurately yet. Our weather models are not even good at predicting yesterday’s weather. With at least 10’s of thousands of variables and inputs into the current weather, it would still take 100’s of years of concentrated research to start controlling the planetary weather. It might not even be a good idea to control the weather. Many species probably depend on once in a life time devastation in order to thrive. Planetary Weather Control could even be detrimental to species survival.
It is just plain mental to think chipping away at Carbon Emissions will do anything! It would hurt our economy, which is the only tool we have to help people in these areas cope with climate change.

  36. To Edward Teach: Be careful!! Some species of birds have been know to go after tracer bullets!! They mistake them for fireflies!

  37. NEW HUMAN RIGHT DISCOVERED –
A Right To Be Free From:
Floods, Droughts, Hurricanes, Sea-level Rise, Seasonal Unpredictability, Failed Harvests, Disappearing Islands, Destroyed Homes, Water Scarcity, Health Crises(even if you created it yourself), Lack of Security, Food, Water, Shelter, and above all else, CULTURE!

  38. According to the OLD FAMERS ALAMANAC were suoost to be getting a real cold winter this year i mean look at those eight year type inervonts i mean practly every year ending in the number eight has had a hard winter I would like to see it freeze the global warming yah hoos and has gore shivering in his PJs and the UN jerks eating their shoes

  39. so, we have 4 to 5 billion more people on the planet than about a 125 years ago. these people live in areas effectd by foul weather. some will die. so.

  40. Its one thing to be too stupid to recognize something, like a monkey confronted with a math quiz, quite another to take pride in one’s ignorance…and the ignorance displayed here is breathtaking.
Let me spell it out for the slower among you, and note that even candidate Palin’s native ignorance on the subject of global warming is being discretely abandoned: most of the anthropogenic carbon already in the atmosphere was put there by the industrialized west.
Get it, halfwits? Or is that still too complicated?
It’s like a neighbour dumping their trash on your front lawn. It is hilarious to read some of you arguing the neighbour’s side. Its not MY lawn! Its got NOTHING to do with me, uh uh! That’s not my trash! There IS no trash!
A farmer in the Sahel whose crops fail from drought linked to climate change is entirely correct in blaming western consumption patterns for his troubles.
Worse than that, I guess, is listening to a lot of spoiled white people who’ve never been out of whatever backward province they came from, opining from relative comfort on the unimaginable hardships of equally human beings halfway round the planet.
Chilling that some of you are actually permitted to vote.

  41. Commenter sez, ‘most of the anthropogenic carbon already in the atmosphere was put there by the industrialized west’, when in fact all of it was, hence anthropogenic.
Other than that, the total count of the said gas is 0.03 – 0.05% of the atmosphere.
Commenter sez ‘drought linked to climate change’, there is no evidence, none, zero, of that sentiment, a sentiment it is. It is simply made up to support preconceived conclusion.
It is curious that superior beings as the commenter, cannot give a solid argument supported by actual facts and uses name calling and such to proclaim his superiority.

  42. Owen,
I must say that a lot of what you read here is just some of us having fun with liberal sensibilities. We know that some of things we say here makes you crazy. That’s the point.
However, I think most of us here do not buy the global warming scam and don’t want to be robbed by those who do. It’s that simple.
The three countries in mentioned are like ant hills.
Like anything else in the world, the more of it you have the less valuable it is.
That includes humans. We do need fewer of them. Would you agree?
I know the left is very concerned about over-population. You condone the abortion of millions of babies each year. So if we lose some of the pismire-like populations of those infesting uninhabitable places on the planet, due to natural conditions in nature, … would you be okay with that?
    If not, why not?

  43. Owen: CO2 … no matter how much we put out, doesn’t cause AGW. It causes a tiny spike in temp (supposedly), which then is supposed to cause increases in other more powerful greenhouse gases like H2O … trouble is, that isn’t happening. Trouble is … model predictions aren’t falling in line. Trouble is, there is already more increase of CO2 in the atmosphere than can be contributed to human activity … but the planet is cooling.
Owen: Your knowledge is dated. Your knowledge amounts to little more than Kool-aide.

  44. “A farmer in the Sahel whose crops fail from drought linked to climate change is entirely correct in blaming western consumption patterns for his troubles.”
    ================================
Back in biblical times they blamed God.

  45. Meanwhile Dion says he wants to emulate the Dane’s enviro…mental policy. The one where there’s a 200% tax on all sport utility vehicles, two dollars and fifty cents a litre at the pumps, fifty cents per each grocery bag purchased. Are Canadians willing to pay one hundred thousand for a SUV?

  46. Owen,Owen, Owen, We are messing with your sensibilities yes? If the left side of the equation hasn’t figured out that the people who actually work at “real” jobs are not buying “global warming”, “climate change” or whatever Gore, sokookie,Dion or “Canadians are stupid” Lizzie-May is peddling this week. Personally I don’t give a rats ass what is happening in whereverstan O K ? I know I am not responsible for it, you wanna take that on be my guest. I think when we send aid, the former Rhodesia being a case in point, we tend to shore up petty tyrants, Mugabe been one that actually make it worse for the people there. Money for Aids prevention? Nope most preventable disease on the planet. “harm reduction” is a leftard fantasy.
Cheers Bubba, and now that steak!
