The Old Fart Doesn’t Even Email

Imagine that … McCain is so doddering he hasn’t even learned how to use email … shame shame shame:

Strange though … some North Vietnamese thug is responsible:

Yep. The day after 9/11, as part of its “get tough” makeover, the Obama campaign is mocking John McCain for not using a computer, without caring why he doesn’t use a computer. From the AP story about the computer illiterate ad:
“Our economy wouldn’t survive without the Internet, and cyber-security continues to represent one our most serious national security threats,” [Obama spokesman Dan] Pfeiffer said. “It’s extraordinary that someone who wants to be our president and our commander in chief doesn’t know how to send an e-mail.”
Well, I guess it depends on what you mean by “extraordinary.” The reason he doesn’t send email is that he can’t use a keyboard because of the relentless beatings he received from the Viet Cong in service to our country. From the Boston Globe (March 4, 2000):

  1. I am a little bit sick of this McCain as a war hero and the victim of his Vietnamese thugs.
People always remember that: McCain was in a plane that was dropping BOMBS on the people. Those people caught him after in a lake and didn’t kill him. McCain was trying to kill them.

  2. AQP – There was that little detail about being at war that really allowed McCain to be over there dropping bombs. There was also that little Geneva Convention that protects prisoners of war from mistreatment and torture.
Because he was carrying out bombing during a war did not give the Vietnamese the right to torture the man. So, bringing up his 5 years of capture and mistreatment is a valid point, especially if he has physical remnants of damage from that capture and torture.

  3. AQP. Just so you know, a pacifist is someone that normal folk don’t want on their side. Why? because pacifists are the type of people who won’t fight for their friends. More to the point, you are all gutless cowards who would allow the enslavement of not just yourselves, but your neighbors as well. I wish the rest of Canada could vote on Quebec separation. You would be gone tomorrow, and broke next week.

  4. AQP – if you are tired of McCain and the war hero meme, well you can’t blame his camp for this one – it’s Obam-uhh that opened the door , yet again.

  5. I agree with Marko. If the rest of Canada got to vote on it, Quebec would have been independent long ago. AQP, you are confused.
I equate sitting here, online, with not accomplishing anything. It’s barely a step above watching the Simpsons over, and over. If I were motivated and socially attached, I wouldn’t be sitting here. McCain has been too busy to learn how to cut & paste. Am I really supposed to think less of him?

  6. Hey Quebecee why don’t you study a little history and you will discover it was the pathetic French who started that whole mess in Vietnam where Mcain had to go and clean up after you useless frenchies. Yes as usual the French couldn’t beat their poodles and the Americans saved your soft asses as usual. Your kind does nothing for the world but rearrange history, not a good trait, but then there is little redeeming about you folks and your impenetrabe Maginot line mindset, roll over Peeair your good at it.

  7. Brutal. As if someone who can’t use a keyboard is incapable of using or learning email? Way to insult disabled people everywhere.
McCain should get along with dinosaur Larry King who confessed to being a journalist who has never Googled anything in his life.

  8. Is this…. is this the Democrats taking their cues from the Kim Campbell campaign book? Next thing you know, they will be making fun of Chretien’s face.

  9. Position: President of the United States of America
Skills required: TYPING IS A MUST.
Demonstrated national leadership, experience and judgment are not required, nor should these qualities be considered assets.
Interested applicants should reply to the Democratic National Committee of America.

aek…..You omitted the most important requirement: STRONG TELEPROMPTER SKILLS.

  11. Hey dwayne
There was a Geneva Convention that didn’t allow people torture? McCain was over there to kill them but that didn’t give them the right to torture him?
But Bush ruled the Geneva Convention is now obsolete, didn’t he? Torture’s okay now – the US gov’t. does it. Even McCain rolled over on it and gave his okay. What’s the big deal?

  12. Peter @ 1:46am
Yes, it was noticed – look a little further down the page here at SDA as well as over at hotair.com – lots of comments of course.

  13. Ahh real, thanks for that. Typical lefty moral relativism and double standard, rolled up into one post. Well done! *golf clap*

They were just acting the same as the Quebecois FLQ.
You know, “protecting” themselves by torure. Almost like murdering and stuffing politicians in trunks.
When Canada was afraid of Quebec separation, you threatened and threatened.
Now,that the rest of Canada is not afraid anymore, (actually PLEASE LEAVE!) we hear nothing from you snivelling complainers.
The true meaning of a pacifist is “a coward willing to let others do his fighting for him.”
Oh that’s also the meaning of another word, “Frenchman”.
When the real men of Canada were fighting and dying to save you and France, from the Nazis, your type was at home belittling their efforts.
    Crawl back under your rock.

  15. “But Bush ruled the Geneva Convention is now obsolete”
I would be very interested in the section of the Geneva Convention that Bush violated. It is very short read, it shouldn’t take you too long.
    I want the actual provision.

  16. Slowbama is being revealed for what he is, a simple leftard. Charlie Gibson asks a question about the “Bush Doctrine” and the only source available for it is that nest of leftard trolls Wikipedia, and yet he asks Palin to quote provisions of it as if it were written down somewhere outside the fever swamps of the left. Charlie Gibson is a leftard.
And if you wonder why I call you leftards, here is some imperical evidence.

Haidt has conducted research in which liberals and conservatives were asked to project themselves into the minds of their opponents and answer questions about their moral reasoning. Conservatives, he said, prove quite adept at thinking like liberals, but liberals are consistently incapable of understanding the conservative point of view.

    http://warner.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/09/11/no-laughing-matter/index.html
If you respond, I am pretty sure you will respond in the manner Haidt describes “Reject first, ask rhetorical questions later.”

  17. Um, while I certainly find AQP’s opinions absurd, it’s still worth pointing out to “bartinsky” and “Doowled” that French Canadians are not Frenchmen.
A Québécois is going to be about as riled up over slurs against France as an English Canadian would at insults to England. Perhaps even less so.
As for real men fighting and dying to “save you and France”, there is no lack of French surnames on the headstones in Canadian war graves all across northern France.
Suggest you google/wikipedia the following names:
Jean Brillant, Joseph Kaeble and Paul Triquet.

  18. Just imagine the Facebook Groups:
Handicapped military veterans for Obama: 0 members
Parents with mentally handicapped children for Obama: 0 members
Small town mayors for Obama: 0 members

  19. “A Québécois is going to be about as riled up over slurs against France as an English Canadian would at insults to England. Perhaps even less so.”
It’s not whether snivelling Quebecois recogognize themselves as Frenchmen. We do.
Yes many Quebecers did fight and die in that war.
If you were truly bilingual you may have noticed that I said “his type”.
It still doesn’t change the fact that Quebecers as a group vehemently tried to stay out of WW11.
It also doesn’t change the fact that as a whole, the French are well recognized as inept and laughable fighters.

  20. “Just so you know, a pacifist is someone that normal folk don’t want on their side.”
Pacifism can be courageous. But even Gandhi said:
“I have been repeating over and over again that he who cannot protect himself or his nearest and dearest or their honour by non-violently facing death may and ought to do so by violently dealing with the oppressor. He who can do neither of the two is a burden. He has no business to be the head of a family. He must either hide himself, or must rest content to live for ever in helplessness and be prepared to crawl like a worm at the bidding of a bully.”
    From the NRO article:
“McCain’s severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes.”
    This made crack up:
“In a similar vein I guess it’s an outrage that the blind governor of New York David Paterson doesn’t know how to drive a car. After all, transportation issues are pretty important. How dare he serve as governor while being ignorant of what it’s like to navigate New York’s highways.”

  21. real- yet again, you ignore the facts.
Bush did not reject the Geneva Conventions. They apply only to valid members of a military force of a nation. The Al Qaeda, remember, aren’t military forces of any nation. Therefore, the Geneva Conventions don’t apply to them.
Facts matter, real. Perhaps you, with your self-defined focus on reality, ought to acknowledge them once in a while.

  22. Boy that’s gonna leave a mark. Will the Obamtons follow up with a video of “the One” Actually sending a “e-mail” WOW I will even say it backwards WOW now don’t try this at home folks. The Chosen on has really put behind him all those snide remarks about “community organizers” with that impressive performance of his technical prowess I mean he can send an actual “e-mail” I can see the contest is over! That trumps being a mayor, governor, field dressing moose, actually meeting a payroll, serving your country. Wow and “bonus points for the Oprah nod” That man is a-going to the White house!I am all over goose-bumps. Obama is so modest of course he has much to be modest about.
    cheers Bubba

  23. AQP is the same person who would be sick and tired of hearing about those in wheelchairs talking about the lack of ramps.

  24. “Doowleb”:
Your last offering simply confirms you have nothing cogent to say beyond vituperative bigotry of the basest kind.
    Have a nice day.

  25. JJM
“””” Your last offering simply confirms you have nothing cogent to say beyond vituperative bigotry of the basest kind.””””
you would appear to have either reading comprehension problems, or don’t know the facts of the matter, or are yourself biased
and I say that with the “french” part of my heritage
    and AQP
    I’m damn near computer illiterate
and I’d stack my IQ and general abilities against yours any day!!!!!

  26. JJM cites: “Jean Brillant, Joseph Kaeble and Paul Triquet.”
    John Diefenbaker appointed
“General The Right Honourable Georges Philias
Vanier” to be Governor-General in 1959.
This is from the Governor-General’s website.
    John Diefenbaker is not mentioned:
“The appointment of Georges Vanier was announced at a Cabinet meeting in Halifax presided over by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”
    …-
This is from the Foreign Affairs website: Georges P. Vanier.
“Leaving his law practice, he helped organize Canada’s first French Canadian volunteer unit -the 22nd Battalion, later to become the Royal 22nd Regiment. In 1918, while leading an attack at Chérisy in France, he was wounded and lost his right leg. He was awarded the Military Cross and the Distinguished Service Order.”

  27. John McCain was a naval aviator and flew A4-D’s from carriers. They were hot little aircraft, and carrier takeoffs and landings are difficult. Laptop computers are entirely trivial in comparison.
I very much doubt that Sen. Obama has what it takes to be a naval aviator, or indeed a military pilot of any description.

  28. Here’s a fact, folks.
Bill Clinton does not use email or own a Blackberry.
That came from an interview in Vanity Fair magazine.

  29. “Bill Clinton does not use email or own a Blackberry.”
Because he’s a Luddite, or because he’s learned not to leave a written record that can be used against him in a sexual harassment suit?

  30. “But Bush ruled the Geneva Convention is now obsolete, didn’t he? Torture’s okay now – the US gov’t. does it. Even McCain rolled over on it and gave his okay. What’s the big deal?”

*yawn* Try researching a bit before typing and looking foolish, mm-K? I’m sure you’re a big boy and can google “Third Geneva Convention, Article 4”. Then get somebody to read it to you.
    “Real”, indeed. Real dumb.

  31. Neither Obama or McCain have degrees in Economics. Neither one has made Economics a personal area of study. Neither one can really say they “understand” the Economy.
At least McCain is man enought to admit that he’s going to have to ask for Economics advice.

  32. AQP, your thoughts on this are both asinine & disgusting.
What I find truly reprehensible is that idiots like you help propagate the idea that the French are all like you. You are a world removed from men like the elderly, decorated Quebecois war vet that I sat beside during the CPC convention in Montreal…or Alain, a Quebecois former member of JTF2 who tragically passed away last year from a heart attack.
Given your thoughts, are you endorsing the US adopting Viet Cong style practices for the prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay?

  33. Real – since a few have already spanked you on the Geneva Convention thing I’ll just add this. The Americans who mistreated prisoners in Iraq were charged. What they did was contrary to the convention and they were punished. What the Americans are doing with terrorists in Guantanamo Bay is a legal issue as those people are not protected by the Geneva Convention. If you review the Third Convention Article 4 you will find that terrorists are not covered.
Good luck with your argument that they are a militia though, as there is proof that they dress like civilians, like women even, and hid among the population. That is contrary to the Geneva Convention, by the way.

  34. RE: “There was that little detail about being at war that really allowed McCain to be over there dropping bombs. There was also that little Geneva Convention that protects prisoners of war from mistreatment and torture.…”
A bit rich, Dwayne, exactly when did the USA ever legally declare war on North Vietnam? A resolution by the US Congress authorizing the president “to take all necessary measures to repel any armed attack against the forces of the United States and to prevent further aggression.” is a cop out, not a declaration of war. Calling a duck a pig doesn’t get rid of a single feather.
As for “that little Geneva Convention”? Bite your tongue and hang your head in shame! The US has been thumbing its proverbial nose at the Geneva Convention for the past several years, i.e., Guantanamo Bay detainees.
As for torture, according to US leaders, torture is acceptable so long as it is not done on US soil. How else do they justify torturing prisoners taken in the Afghan and Iraq wars?
You can’t have it both ways—unless maybe if you’re a US citizen and can bully the world.

  35. “…exactly when did the USA ever legally declare war on North Vietnam?”
If memory serves, not later than “Rolling Thunder.”

  36. Russ, I again recommend you read the same convention I referred real to. You may find out that a terrorist is not a legal combatant as defined by that convention.
I don’ justify torture anymore than you do. The Abu Grab prison torture was dealt with in the US, it was not condoned. As for what happens when you send a terrorist back to his country of origin, well my heart doesn’t bleed for them. You want to take that up with the nations that don’t quite subscribe to your rosy world.
As for Indochina, I don’t usually use Wiki, but it does condense the references… have a read. It would probably come as a shock to you that North and South Vietnam fought each other and China/Russia and the USA helped their respective sides.
Try Douglas Pike, The Origins of the War: Competing Perceptions in The Vietnam Debate: A Fresh Look at the Arguments 83-89, 86 (John Norton Moore ed., 1990). I don’t have time to give you a ton of references that you aren’t going to read because it interferes with your understanding of how bad the US is, so I’ll stop there.
One final note, countries don’t sign Peace Treaties if they were not involved in a war. I refer you to the Paris Peace Accords 1973.

  37. Russ Campbell,
“The US has been thumbing its proverbial nose at the Geneva Convention for the past several years, i.e., Guantanamo Bay detainees. ”
I know it is pointless to ask you to back up this assertion whith anything more substantial than your opinion, but which part of the Geneva Convention did the US violate? Which part exactly? I have read it and I can’t find it.
Pulleeze don’t sent me to some link at thinkprogress.org or wherever, a simple on paragraph answer of the actual provision which was violated would do just fine. Or is asking you to back up your claims “cyber bullying.”
And BTW, Obama is an idiot for bringing this up. He just shrinks in stature more and more every day that passes.

  38. Back on topic about McCain and e-mails. It reminds me of the scene in “Quigley Down Under” when Tom Seleck’s character says to alan Rickman’s character after shooting him with a .45 pstol ” I didn’t say I couldn’t use one, I just didn’t have much use for them.” A free piece of advice for the Dems, remember “The first rule of holes.”.
