  1. Oprah who? sounds like the name of a diet fad! I did watch a nice young lady on the boob tube years ago when I was a lot younger. Didn’t know she was still around.

  2. “Half of her staff really wants Sarah Palin on,” an insider explains. … but Oprah and a couple of her top people are adamantly against it because of Obama.”
How does that saying go about a divided house?
Last year, Winfrey blocked an appearance by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, timed to a promotional tour of his autobiography.
Calling Dr Phil, calling Dr. Phil, PLEASE call your office!

  3. It doesn’t surprise me that Oprah is against having Palin on her show. Oprah epitomizes the absolute worst of Western culture.
But her refusing to have Palin as a guest is a good thing. It only makes the left look even more desperate, and it makes Palin look that much more classy.
If I were in politics I would loath the fact that I might have to go on Oprah’s show and pretend I actually liked the woman. Yuk.

  4. Wish I had a subscription just so I could cancel it. But then why would I subscribe to that when I can just buy another tabloid any time I need some junk food for the mind?
Oprah? I don’t need THAT much junk food for the mind.

  5. Both big “O”‘s are a mile wide and an inch thick Sarah Palin does not need Oprahs blessing, she is a real woman, I am guessing it’s a “color thing” It is hilarious how panicked “the chosen one” is,I mean he had “the oprah endorsement” shallow, and no experience, besides writing autobiographies, what’s with that?
    Cheers Bubba

  6. “If I were in politics I would loath the fact that I might have to go on Oprah’s show and pretend I actually liked the woman. Yuk.”
Why would anyone in their right mind even agree to appear on her show? That would rank right up there with participating in a Jerry Springer episode.

  7. Great article in the sept. 4th National Post by Fr. Raymond De Souza on Opra and what she stands for. He’s got her figured out to a tee. It’s a great read.

  8. Oprah hand-picked Obama to be her presidential candidate.
After using her influence to create best-selling books, what bigger challenge is there to influence politics?
Now, she’s in the forefront of a summer Olympics bid for Chicago.
Just watch closely and do your research.
Here’s a fact. Oprah also attended Rev. Wright’s church in Chicago. To her credit, at least she realized the guy was a racist wingnut and would be a liablity to her ambitions.

  9. One of my proudest moments is when I cancelled a multi-generational Time magazine subscription (passed on from my father) shortly after 9/11. I became a conservative after realizing this magazine had been feeding me leftist claptrap all my life.
I savored every moment — even grabbed a screenshot of the cancellation page. 🙂

  10. Oprah? The woman with the ego to match Obama’s? Really, they make a perfect pair.
She lost my respect when I saw that she put herself on EVERY cover of her magazine, ‘O’. EVERY cover! How egotistical and vain is that???? Can’t stomach her.

  11. MARCIA,,LOL,,Buy a subscription and when it arrives CANCEL it.LOL will cost a few bucks but what the hell, you will certainly make your point heard.

  12. After a US Magazine Editor was skewered a’live’ on FOX News for trashing Palin and her family on their cover, I’m guessing people who subscribe are also skewering their advertisers.
Now that’s gonna’ leave a mark.

  13. SC I had a proud moment cancelling my Time subscription as well for the same reason. To this day I still enjoy thinking about it, and I have never since picked up a copy of Time, not even in the dentist’s office.

  14. I think the Big Zero should invite Palin to her show. I also think Palin should gratiously accept and tell Oprah “…… and, by the way, I’ll be bringing Justice Thomas along as well”.

  15. I have never watched Oprah…however…I would love to watch once…the day Oprah meets a real women, Sarah Palin.
    Hope it happens.

  16. “Can someone tell me how I can unsubscribe from CBC?”
Grey market dish. This won’t alleviate your tax burden wrt the CBC but you won’t be forced to subscribe to the Canadian channels. Just a small victory(

  17. Go to oprah.com and hit the link for contact us. There is a form to fill out with show ideas.
Ask for Sarah Palin and her family to be guests.

  18. Talk about biting the hand that feeds her. Her motives are pretty transparent went you look at her audience demographic:
Oprah’s audience is also predominantly white: 5.9 million of whites watch Oprah, compared with 1.4 million blacks. Her reach among the Hispanic population is tiny — only about 230,000 Hispanics watch the show daily.
    http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2007/12/07/502240.aspx
She can’t survive without the 6 to 1 white viewers. If her behavior gets wider attention in the press she’s going to need Palin more than Palin needs her.

  19. a different bob, thanks for the hint, it is a good article. My favourite part, and what scares me so much about the Liberal appeal:
“It is a deeply seductive message — that the solution to every problem lies not in self-sacrifice for others but in taking care of one’s own needs. How do we improve the broken world around us? We take care of ourselves.”

  20. penny:
White audience is four times as large as black (six to 1.5).
Black population of US is 12% of total … one in eight.
Therefore, twice as many blacks per capita watch Oprah than whites.
    Cheers.

  21. Indiana H:
Say what you want about the CBC, they still do a good job on HNIC, and as a die-hard Leaf fan (masochist?), I’ll still watch that, plus the occasional CFL and Jay game. Every now and then, they show a good movie. Everything else? That’s why God made remote controls.

  22. The era of making millions by being a closet Leftist and later coming out to be a brazen moonbat is over!
From now on, celebrities will be scrutinized for evidence of Leftist Mental Disorder, and if any is detected, people will ignore them, won’t watch their crap shows, won’t buy their magazines, won’t publicly say nice stuff about them…
Hey, Lefist celebrity dummies: Ordinary people DON’T like Left-wing asshats!
From now on, it’s fashionable to be a conservative, to be right-wing. Rise, fellow righties! Let’s have our own pride parades in every municipality! Let’s have our own sitcoms which glorify and promote the right-wing lifestyle! Let’s take over the MSM and the state apparatus!

  23. Well, I guess if you don’t have a subsciption to cancel, the next best thing to do is find all the
Us magazines that youcan at your local store, then you bury them, say somewhere behind the Field & Stream and the Muscle magazines. Just make sure you put this on the top of your grocery list for the next decade or so. There’ll be no forgetting that way.
Another fun way to get the whole family involved, would be put a bounty on each magazine that all the kids and there friends can bury at all of the Convienence Stores in the old neigbourhood. And what the heck, lets all include Oprah’s magazine as well. Now go and have fun and at the same time you can strike a blow against the Liberal numbskulls.

  24. “MARCIA,,LOL,,Buy a subscription and when it arrives CANCEL it.LOL will cost a few bucks but what the hell, you will certainly make your point heard.” why Bert, that is a wonderful idea… and certainly worth it!
Big O and Big Zero hahahahaha

  25. Somehow I doubt Governor Palin would worry about appearing on Oprah’s show, she’s got other more important fish to fry. She did a little searing of Obama in her acceptance speech, Oprah may have picked that up.
Oprah is smart enough to know the Governor teaming up with McCain is a threat to her chosen one. We know darn well if Governor Palin were a Democrat she’d be gushing all over her.

  26. You know, I’m happy for the Americans that they’re going to have Sarah Palin as Vice President and as the next-in-line-for-commander-in-chief. Maybe someday we’ll have a Sarah Palin in Canada…
Are you listening, “right-wing” Canadian women? This is your encouragement to get involved in politics in Canada! Trust me; we’ll love you!
It’s ok to be “right-wing”! Being “right-wing” is a cause for pride! Come out of your closets, all ye righties, and shout, “I’m conservative!!!”.

  27. It’s hilarious to see liberals go berzerk about Palins acceptance speech, when all she did was throw back Obama’s bigotted and ignorant remarks about small towns, guns and religion.
They can sure dish it out, but when facts boomerang back they can’t seem to take it.

  28. Unfortunately, Oprah still has a lot of influence on people/popular culture. I think she’s a smart woman, but I also think her zeal to get an African American elected has blinded her against common sense, and what’s real. I am disappointed in her. In the end, I think Oprah will definitely be paying the price for her blind zeal through lost viewship and, like in my case, loss of respect from previous fans.

    lets review one more time:

Palin is not an Alaskan Separatist either, and has never belonged to that party. The New York Times has retracted that story because their was never any evidence for it, but they were plenty happy to get the smear from the Oppo Research department for a “new kind of politics” out their quick enough.
Her husband once belonged to that party. Now that you know, the next time you repeat that claim, understand that you are lying.
    http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/09/02/alaska-party-official-says-palin-was-not-a-member/

I will post site show every day what is rank of US Obama vs McCain is or you may know yourself already

  31. Hey, Lefist celebrity dummies: Ordinary people DON’T like Left-wing asshats!
I’m thinking of Tilda Swinton, the actress who played the white witch in The Chronicles of Narnia. Tilda is an unabashed communist who owns a castle in Scotland, making millions of dollars from her movies.
A glaring example of the hypocrisy of the left. Do as I say, not, do as I do.

  32. I suspect ‘new’ is a trolling leftie blogger or a government beurocrat waiting to pounce on someone that may take his/her/it’s bait vis a vis radical islam. Has anyone traced ‘new’s’ IP?

  33. It’s remarkable how entertainment-types and magazine publishers and talk-show producers think they can operate under the working assumption that their audience is comprised of Democrat supporters, and that they can sneer at and make jokes about “the others” without it costing them.
I watched the opening monologues of Leno and Conan O’Brian last night specifically to see how they’d comment on the convention. Both did the usual, treating Republicans as a joke. What was notable last night, though, was the audience reaction, and the hosts’ reaction to the audience response: When Leno took his usual shots at McCain and Palin there was some of the usual whooping and applause and laughing from the go-to crowd, but there was also a definite pall and a sort of unhappy mumbling in the audience. Jay Leno, Mr. MOR-regular-guy, looked like he’d been made uncomfortable at the un-festive, non-entertained reaction of some in the audience. He continued half-heartedly in the same vein, to the same effect, and then suddenly he seemed to be taking direction from someone off-camera, somewhere stage right, to move along, and said something like “okay, okay, well let’s take it in a different direction then” and moved into the non-political jokes.
On Late Night, Conan O’Brian, in the manner of someone speaking to gathered Democrats at a banquet, said — and this is not verbatim, but the punchline is — “You know, Sarah Palin is a hockey mom from Alaska. Yeah, yeah, which is kind of strange, because her daughter isn’t very good at protecting the crease…”
He got the same reaction that Leno got — a smattering of Dems made noise — but the non-reaction, and the murmuring was hanging in the air was even worse. He spent a good minute doing that post-ironic shtick that Letterman started, which entails making a lengthy joke out of the fact that a joke wasn’t funny, and using the discomfort to string out more laughs, but it clearly didn’t obviate the ill-will he’d created.
You’d think that the producers and directors and ratings-suits would have figured out by now that the business model of insulting and in effect mocking half your audience is a dumb one.
Oprah Winfrey’s show makes me squirm — the level of gynergy is Riefenstahlian — but in her middle-America audience there are surely a lot of women who are strong, who want to be strong and accomplished, and who look up to Oprah because she’s strong. In other words, there has to be a lot of women in her demographic, one would have to assume, who look up to Sarah Palin for the same reason they look up to Oprah. If “O” stops being seen as “one of us” and a “strong woman like us” and starts to be seen as the sort of power-brokering-elite that Palin is up against, that will be a suicidal, unintentional re-branding.
Obama supporters, including those in the entertainment industry, feed off division and stereotyping, and that that’s one of the reasons I thought McCain’s speech was a very smart one: when he “reached out” to all Americans and asked them to avoid partisan bickering it was, on the surface, just boilerplate speech making, the trotting out of an old meme, but IMO he was showing a political sense of occasion by speaking to — what surely has to be — the large demographic containing friends and family who have been uncomfortably at odds by virtue of the unprecedentedly stark partisan choices on offer in this season. He was speaking to people for whom getting along with each other looms comfortably as option #3, and using Palin’s groundbreaking speech for momentum, he provided those people with a comfortable out, a place to go to avoid the divisiveness. That target audience surely contains a lot of stay-at-home Moms, and probably a fair number of the sort of people who like to gather and be entertained by comedians.
A lot of people don’t like to be pressured, whether in politics, religion or sales, and I thought McCain avoided doing that. Modesty and reasonableness are great subducted political forces, IMO.

  34. The great debate…Obama vs Palin, the headline reads: THE BABE IN THE WOODS vs THE BABE FROM THE WOODS.. lol.

  35. Say what you want about the CBC, they still do a good job on HNIC, and as a die-hard Leaf fan (masochist?), I’ll still watch that, plus the occasional CFL and Jay game. Every now and then, they show a good movie. Everything else? That’s why God made remote controls.
Kevin: somehow the NHL on TSN seems more familiar…OH YEAH! its the music.

  36. “Never mind CBC, how do you unsubscribe to “new”?”
It suppose to be web 2.0 and somehow blogs lost good old command : /ignore

  37. EDB..in the past I have been sickened not only by the jokes of the ‘late nighters’ but the cheers from the audience.
Perhaps what you describe is the change we’ve been waiting for…

  38. I suspect “news” wanted to call themselves “new” but misspelled it. I started reading a bit of it and decided my 3 year old makes much more sense when high on candy. If you are going to troll at least try to use spell check, it’s really easy, ask any 5 year old.

  39. BTW – I caught a bit of CNN doing an interview with a handful or “regular” women aimed at smearing Palin.
I would swear that in at least one point they were overdubbing the actual woman and inserting their own words.

  40. Most if not all the advertizers in these magazines have 800 numbers. Call and say you are upset with their product placement and will boycott them till they remove their ads from both O and Us. Then call the circulations dept and tell them you will never buy they trash again. Another method is while in the checkout line of the store, look at the mag and loudly exclain, why would anyone buy this trash. Those withing hearing will not buy it. When month end comes and all those unsold mags are sent back, the message will get thru. Also check the ads and if you have anything in your cart from them, leave it at the till. Bury then at your hairdressers, dentist office etc.
And has anyone checked out Hillory’s site, lots of support for Sarah, and intentions to vote for her. Those 18 million votes she got were not all from women.
