Is it possible that some vote Republican?
The reality, however, is that "Oprah" is finishing second and third in major markets across the country this summer. And these ratings have some of us wondering if Oprah is working for her audience anymore.
The show has been drifting back to Earth, losing 7 percent of its audience nationwide this year alone. O Magazine saw a double-digit decline in circulation. Authors can no longer count on the "Oprah effect." And her endorsement of Barack Obama may have turned off, literally, viewers who supported Hillary Clinton.
Flashback to Dec.9, 2007 - "With this first-ever foray into presidential politics, Winfrey is breaking new ground, her campaigns to defeat obesity and illiteracy behind her."
Posted by Kate at August 5, 2008 10:28 AMWell my stay at home mom/wife only watches it when forced to in doctors offices.
Hey you left out Thompson!
:(
Posted by: dinosaur at August 5, 2008 10:49 AMStopped watching when she put on her democratic shoes
much prefer nothing these days.
I think the Oprah show has run out its shelf life.
Posted by: Cael at August 5, 2008 11:12 AMPart of the problem is that the show has gotten repetitive. Also so many women are working now there are not so many women at home to watch this show. And of course Dr. Phil spun off - he was very popular.
Posted by: Nicola Timmerman at August 5, 2008 11:14 AMI noticed well before the Democratic primary was decided (or is it decided as yet?) that Oprah had stopped showing up at BO events, and stopped being so outspoken in his favour. I presume her marketing department showed her some sour polling numbers along with some sour ratings numbers. Money sure does talk doesn't it!

Well now, it seems Oprahs foray off into Politics was actually an exercise in how not to shoot yourself in the foot.
Either way, the slide going down will be fun to watch, kindof like what GrandMaw used to always say, be nice to the people on the way up Ratt they will be the same people you see on the way down.
,
Way to go Oprah! I didn't even realize that obesity and illiteracy had been stamped out.
Posted by: grok at August 5, 2008 11:33 AMI have not watched her for at least 10 yrs, unless it is on in someone else's house or office.
Lots of -stars- have had their record sales drop, bombed at the box office, or trouble selling tickets. Most of them have come out for either global warming, Obama, ssm, or other hot topics. One thing they fail to realize is, with the country almost evenly divided, taking a stand on an issue will turn off many of your fans.
Oprah is just the latest example of this, and I imagine the trouble with her girls scool in Africa didn't help. Why doesn't she build a school in depressed areas of the USA instead.
it will be hard for him to accomplish such when folk find out that a crook by another name is John McCain
Ummm...not much point in reading "rawdogbuffalo's" link. Little more than gibberish.
Posted by: Eeyore at August 5, 2008 12:23 PMThanks for the warning Eeyore. I suspected as much.
This part-time "stay at home" mom is voting Republican. I don't even read books that Oprah recommends. I certainly wouldn't vote for a president just on her word. In fact, her endorsement would probably be a red flag to avoid that candidate. There are a lot of people who were turned off by her Obama endorsement. Wasn't she one of the first in the media/entertainment world to treat him like the messiah?
Oprah lost big time when she flaunted her political bent by supporting Obama. That's one of the biggest no-nos for business people and celebrities. It's fortunate for her she's already MADE it.
I guess this wasn't the kind of Change she had Hoped for .......
Posted by: OMMAG at August 5, 2008 1:34 PMI went to see the Oprah show and all I got was this lousy T-shirt. Where's my brand new car?
Posted by: Mé at August 5, 2008 2:06 PMThe "stay at home mom" I roll with(wifey) couldn't care less what Oprah says about politics, she's got her own brain.
Although, she did see "Sicko" with a friend and came home spewing a bunch of crap about how great Canadian Healthcare is.A year later I take great pleasure in reminding her about the plate in her leg that was supposed to be removed two years ago. Enough "I told you so's" have stopped her from quoting M.Moore. This one never gets tired at my house.

Posted by: Jon at August 5, 2008 2:13 PMremember the good old days, back when Oprah's show was more interesting, before she developed delusions of grandeur?
I miss seeing the white supremacists, pop psychologists, morbidly obese babies, and other assorted freaks she used to have on years ago. My all time favorite was the group who advocated the practice of "adult re-birthing" using a massive vagina fabricated from foam, fabric, and hula hoops. You know, the inner-child type crap. ...I'm gotta search youtube now for that one :D
Posted by: ChrisinMB at August 5, 2008 2:22 PMWhich is more evil, Oprah or The View?
Discuss.
Posted by: Mississauga Matt at August 5, 2008 2:46 PMHowever far Obama's damage to Oprah's ratings may have reached, her infatuation with Eckhart Tolle and a variety of spirit-guide/psychic weirdlies has had to serve as the second half of a double whammy for the family-values oriented stay-at-home mom market.
Posted by: Leslie at August 5, 2008 3:41 PMGee...I hope RawDog doesn't get all excited when his numbers climb because he posted on SDA. it was a one time read for me. Not really even a read. My 8 year old grandson writes more intelligently.
Posted by: Paul at August 5, 2008 4:42 PMMore like...
which is more idiotic...
Oprah or the View???
Oprah is a mile wide and an inch deep, just like all those other talk-show people. Being a Negro, she created a market for those that either were of her kind or were ultra-liberal wannabee soccer moms. She is the video version of the National Enquirer. Trust me, she is not at all altruistic
in her so-called social endeavors.
When I was a stay-at-home, I never watched Oprah, but my daughter sometimes watched her.
'Never liked the format and wasn't much interested in her rah-rah approach, not to mention the audience's near adulatory obeisance to Her Oprahship.
Now, I WAS interested in how much weight she'd lost or gained, and I enjoyed checking out her clothes and shoes, but that's about it.
Her show was just a glorified gossip fest, all about people I could care less about.
Poor Oprah. Sorry to hear she's fallen on bad times. Maybe she could pay some attention to that boyfriend: Is he still in the picture?
Posted by: batb at August 5, 2008 7:21 PMThey are called "cul-de-sac Republicans", and their voting decisions are highly influential. Meanwhile, the Left is so certain of its absolute correctness, it is blind to this political force's potential to bury them.
