Comments open for your reactions while we wait for the Palin speech to come up on Youtube. (bumped)
Video here and text.
(Plus a transcript of Rudy Giuliani’s great barnburner here).
They love her in Hillary Land
“I love, love, love this!! We are going to kick Obama’s butt all the way back to Kenya!!!!!!” …
Yeah. It’s really easy to see now what they were so afraid of. I have to watch that again…..if no other reason but to catch that joke about the greek columns again.
It’s midnight on the east coast and SDA has just registered 900 Sitemeter visits in the last hour. That’s how big this story is.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid just called her “shrill”. That’ll win the women back!
And is CNN rattled? You be the judge…. “McCain Wins Democratic Nomination”

(thanks to Paul C.)
Now we know why they pay Keith Olbermann the big bucks – “People who like this sort of thing will find this… the sort of thing they like.”

Hahaha!! A pretty face who read a speech prepared by someone else. Big deal. She is just another incompetent, narrow-minded, religion-driven, fundamentalist right-wing freak, who was hand-picked by McSame because he likes her ass. (Youtube is your friend.)
Now she has 137 days to explain her abuse of authority as mayor and governor, attempts at book banning, putting Wasilla into debt, shotgun wedding of her daughter, etc.
I’m going to get some popcorn…this will be fun.
Just so you know: “Meerschaum” is German for “sea-foam”.
In other words, nothing but suds, no substance at all.
I still think McCain was too old to even not come to his own show and sent his wife instead

but still she is too young and McCain is too old for presicency I am not vote for him sorry
Delet it – fire them all
Some of Charlie Rose’s PBS “guests” are now picking apart her speech and presentation and pedantically speculating on McCain’s motives. The usual talking head/chattering class stuff.
Did they do this for any of the BO speeches or events? Just wondering.
12:55 Yoop. You silver tongued devil. Truer words were never spoken.
A power house woman with a cause and then you mess with her kids!!! Whew!!! Not a good plan!!!
No, I don’t think the Republicans can afford to simply rally the troops anymore. And certainly not in one of their most important free media slots. They’ve run out of time for that.
The Republican base in the US has shrunk dramatically since 2004 (Thanks, Dubya). That fact, demonstrated by the reality that McCain has been consistently running behind Obama, means that the Rove-esque strategy of energizing your base and demoralizing the other guy’s base simply won’t cut it in 2008. If McCain can’t bring Independents and blue-collar Democrats into his tent, he loses on simple electoral math.
And you won’t interest those Independents and blue-collar Democrats with an unnecessarily partisan speech aimed at the Republican party’s right wing or that attacks, for example, community organizers. You only woo these groups by showing how your policies help working joes on Mainstreet more than your opponent’s policies.
(I have a grave feeling that the “community organizer” line will come back to haunt Palin. It’s pretty damned easy pitch for the Democrats to knock out of the park with an indignant reminder that Jimmy Hoffa, Chaesar Chavez, Martin Luther King Jr. and Mother Theresa, for Pete’s sake, were all community organizers.)
The tactical error of tonight’s speech was that it preached to the choir instead of to Independents and Reagan Democrats.
Obama does not write his own speeches, and he does not manage his own campaign. And, without the prompter he is lost. Remember the Saddalback fiasco for him. I liked her suttle slams at Michell, and all the other speakers, mentioning they have always been proud to be an american. I was pleased to see she wore the same outfit for the speech she wore when checking out the podium earlier in the day. Also pleased she did not allow anyone to glamorize her or make her over aka Michelle. I liked her remarks to Harry Reid, if you really don’t like Senator McCain, do the right thing and move him from the senate to the Oval Office.
Considering Wolfe announced John won the democratic nomination, and Obama introduced Biden as the next president of the United States, no wonder the media is screwed.
As for her slams at the media, why has the media not mentioned that O has threatened to sue, cancel licences, and forbidden them to tell the truth about him and Ayers. Democrats are scared of this ticket, and the more they attack, the more afraid they become.
We’ll put it this way:
Obama’s weak point is debates.
Palin’s strength is debates
I believe McCain will take 2 of 3 debates, and I believe Palin will turn Joe Biden into a friggin’ newt. He’ll get better, but he won’t be VP.
As of today, my 11-4 prediction is: McCain 48%, Obama 45%, Barr 3%, Nader 1%, Others: 3%. McCain gets 286 EV.
One thing we can all agree on. She has changed the nature of this whole Election. Joe Biden will be meat on the table she sets.
An Anti- matter bomb in a small package.
A small note to those who think she should be wearing sock cloth & ashes over her daughter. Most families have a black sheep. In this case as in my family she will get married to the guy, which has so far been good for 5 years now. Mistakes happen, particularly with teenagers.. I am glad she had loving parents that did not kick her out ,but have stood by her as kin. That’s what relatives do. Its only the extreme dysfunctional ones who don’t. As well last time I heard, forgiving someone for the sins they do if they are repentant, is still a Christian practice. Palin can be proud her daughter kept the baby in this day & age of human life denial. Not that her daughter strayed but that she has come threw this honorable by taking responsibility. People are not condoning bad behavior , just happy to see a family weather a bad storm with a good ending, as most households do. They circle the wagons for their own, as we all do.
Best line read from a comment on Ann Althouse’s blog:
Palin is in fact Reagan and that Thatcher’s illegitimate love child.
No. Surprisingly, Obama has actually written his most important speeches – his acceptance speech, the speech on race relations and America and the 2004 address to the Democratic convention – by himself.
http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archives/2008/03/speechwriter_of_one.php
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/discussion/2008/08/23/DI2008082300772.html
Interestingly, the last US Presidential candidate to write for himself was Nixon. (Which was one of the few things I admired Tricky Dicky for.)
For his stump speeches, victory speeches in the primaries and other day-to-day stuff, however, the Democratic nominee relies on Jon Favreau.
Meerschaum notes: as Dr. Johnson said of a dog walking on its hind legs: “it is not done well; but you are surprised to find it done at all.”
Ironically, given the subject of this thread, Johnson was using the dog to illustrate his opinion of a woman he had been invited to hear lecturing on philosophy.
Meerschaum indeed means seafoam, but it is the stuff that Sherlock Holmes’s pipe was carved from, a type of soft mineral.
I though Palin was just fine, by the way. It would be nice to have more politicians of her mettle, male and female, in Canada.
Obama has actually written his most important speeches – his acceptance speech, the speech on race relations and America and the 2004 address to the Democratic convention – by himself.
I see two books written by Barack Obama at Amazon.com – both by “himself”. I’m almost certain that he wrote the whole thing(s) by himself, about himself.
Colour me skeptical, but two autobiographies before actually accomplishing anything of historical note (most people deserving a story of their life are humble) strikes me as being a bit over the top.
I DO see the historical significance of being the first black presidential candidate but I’m rooting for Condi and Colin because I’m biased.
“I don’t know, she looks sort of bitter, clinging to guns and religion…. like those yahoos that wouldn’t vote for me in Pennsylvania and West Virginia….” thought Obama
So Obama is the one that wrote that his capture of the Democrat nomination will be thought of in the future as “the momement that the seas stopped their rise, and people started being able to find jobs again?” Obama wrote that?
Look at Zero’s surrogates. They are out here comparing him to McCain’s VP pick. Defensive. Good, they should be.
You have to give the Obmamabots points for moxie though. Their Veep selection would never give a speech written by somebody else… uh wait a minute.
American libs are going to regret poking momma bear. Tearing a strip of her is one thing. Messing with her kids is another.
Guiliani’s speech was incredible.
Palin rocked. Someone in here said Palin is what Hillary has been trying to make up for 20 years. True words.
McCain-Palin.
Gonna be a close race.
I have to admit McCain made an excellent choice. However, the thunder may have come a bit early. The final stretch has it’s share of ups and downs. Time will tell.
Are you tired of the snake oil peddled by Dr. Osama and his lefty cure-nothing tonic?
Are you feeling ill from trying to swallow it’s bitter taste?
NEW from Repubceuticals! PALIN. The cure for America’s woes. When the cap comes off the bottle you will feel fresh and invigorated!
No minimum dosage required. Even looking at the package makes you feel better.
No legal disclaimer required.
All conservatives, everywhere. A note of caution.
Today, when out and about, be careful walking. all that Liberal drool on the streets is a dangerous thing.
Also, rumours that Joe Biden took to the bottle after the speech last night are still unconfirmed.
The VP debate will be “excellent”
I have seen the future of America and her name is Sarah Palin….
her speech at the Republican convention is now one of the seminal moments of US political history – absolutely outstanding
She’s already doing the job. Just look at what she’s done to the resident communist and Islamist:
“Hahaha!! A pretty face who read a speech prepared by someone else. Big deal. She is just another incompetent, narrow-minded, religion-driven, fundamentalist right-wing freak, who was hand-picked by McSame because he likes her ass” – iberia
“next their family of Sarah look like very
villiage espcialy her son and her younges daughter to me very simple peopel from small town who remind me of film of Hilibili” – new
Guess new didn’t like the Giulliani bit about calling an Islamic terrorist an Islamic terrorist. The key word being Islamic.
‘I have a grave feeling that the “community organizer” line will come back to haunt Palin” – Meerschaum
Community organizers like Obama typically do their ‘organizing’ in big cities. Certainly not the the small town America Sarah was addressing and Bush won his two terms with. Besides, who knows exactly what the catch-all, certainly ambiguous term means anyhow.
At least the two books JFK pretended to write were about _other people_.
PS:
For me it’s always about those tiny quirky moments you can’t really capture on paper/pixels or act out to your friends.
Last night it was Rudy, when he first used the phrase “community organizer” then half-whispered “[a] _what_?” — like a disgusted yet bemused cough.
The intellectual elite danced out on a limb- Sarah sawed it off!
http://breathofthebeast.blogspot.com/2008/09/its-about-character-stupid-palin-steps.html
I think the majority will get the context, regardless of how the socialists spin it.
“Community organizer” as in Obama’s only claim in experience to be President of the U.S.
In fact, the more they spin it, the more they are underlining Obama’s complete lack of experience.
A poison pill, wrapped in candy.
Obama’s response.
Uh, oh , uh,,,,,huh, a , uh . ya know , I …..Uh. me …. uh.
Yes, Mam, the GOP is back on top. Bring on November 4th!!
bluetech: “Piper will forever be in my heart for her loving lick-spittle hairdo for Trig.Precious!”
Ditto!!
The Palins are a real family dealing with real issues. Real to the lib-left moonbats is like water to the Wicked Witch of the West.
Sarah Palin tells it like it is and they’re shrieking, “I’m meling! I’m melting!”
‘Haven’t bought a paper in years. Today, I’m buying all the papers I can get my hands on to keep for my grandchildren (of which I haven’t any, yet).
Last night marked a moment in history.
Speaking of 900 sitemeter hits, I’ve noticed you are getting close to 10,000,000 hits. WOW!!!!
Leftards are crying.
Palin exceeded all expectations and set a new bar for herself going forward, which is what she needed to do.
The meme against the GOP today is they “were nasty” and “sarcastic”. A true statement is that if you are too nasty and too sarcastic you turn people off, but the Dems need to worry about that more in their response to Palin. GOP is usually smart enough to know when they are talking to the base and when they are talking to non GOP.
The challenge the GOP has is that they needed to shore up the base, so the VP pick and the convention was for that purpose. The Dems had the luxury of feeling united and speaking to a larger audience. The Dems chose a VP pick, not for their party to to reinforce their candidate in a general election. The GOP chose someone to reinforce their candidate within the party.
The net effect is that the GOP has succeeded in their tasks, but are behidn and the Dems succeeded in their tasks. It is no a footrace.
Biden wasnt mentioned, it was all about comparing Palin to Obama….my goodness the Dems cant let that happen, it dimisnishes Obama. The Dems might be the nasty ones, we will see. And we will see if the old pol Biden can engage Palin without appearing too oafish….it may be difficult.
Right now, I would say a dead even race, that is a one major gaffe (from either side) away from a small victory.
The debates will decide…..now Obama has spoke of equal pay for equal work….what effect will this have on some of the Conservative independents, like me, who are intrigued by Obama. Policies like that that (because did it include the word equal value) start to scare us. As does making 50+% of the US population exempt from taxes…tax cuts dont work when the majority of people dont pay them….that policy alone reshapes the American political landscape.
GOP have recovered, the question is the candidates next moves. There will likely be a hit against the Iranians in October, probably by the Israeli’s. We will see what happens.
BTW did you notice in Guiliani’s seech the references to Jerusalem and Obama’s change of position. That is targetted at making Florida GOP.
Obama is a poitical talent and he has a very very good campaign team….best Dem campaign team I have ever seen, better than Clinton who faced a divided right 2x…..Their marketing is fantastic, we will see if there is enough fuel in the tank to carry them till Novemeber….they may have spent it all knocking off Hillary, for which everyone should be thankful.
I think the force of Sarah Palin’s speech and presence last night will turn the focus of leftogyny hostility to other areas. Theh hatred will continue, the blatant lies will continue, but it will be claims of what she did or didn’t do as governor. Less on her family.
The focus will be on actions-carried-out.
This focus on actions also means that Obama is going to move into the defensive. The Repulbicans are attacking him as being nothing but rhetoric. He can’t be critiqued for actions because he’s done nothing.
As Guiliano said in his perfect speech last night, Obama has marked ‘present’ for the majority of time in Senate but taken no action, made no choices. Obama’s focus has always been on himself; he’s developed no legislature; instead, he’s written two autobiographies about himself.
So, if the focus moves to actions – Obama is going to be on the defensive.
So far, Obama has, with the aid of the hypnotized MSM, slithered through his actions in being a 20 year member of an anti-American group (a ‘church’). Notice how the Democrats are trying to smear Palin with being a member of an Alaskan separatist group; she wasn’t but they are declaring she was.
And of course, Obama’s team rejects criticism; if any MSM that tries to critque him with his links to the crime boss Adler, is faced with threats of being sued.
But, Obama is going to be on the defensive. Now, the MSM will spring to his defense..and..we’ll see.
I DO see the historical significance of being the first black presidential candidate but I’m rooting for Condi and Colin because I’m biased.

Let’s not forget some remarkable history:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederick_Douglass
That’s Republican, because the Democrats were out with Nathan Bedford Forrest burning crosses.
Now she has 137 days to explain her abuse of authority as mayor and governor, …
I’m going to get some popcorn…this will be fun.
Posted by: lberia at September 4, 2008 2:08 AM
Where did you get 137 days? 61 days until the election. Give me some of that popcorn, watching you is fun.
Stephane Dion, Mr. Carbon Tax, how would you like to debate the pit bull? Perhaps bring your attack poodle, Kyoto?
Stephane Dion IS the poodle! Maybe we should change it’s name to Fifi…
Yes, it’s going to be interesting to watch how the media handle this explosion on the political scene. Sarah Palin is nothing less than dynamite in this campaign.
Two media commentators have taken a nose dive IMHO after last night’s tour de force by Palin: the Jim Lehrer News Hour’s Mark Shields and Gwen Ifel.
Mark looked like he was at the funeral of his best friend and couldn’t get himself to say one positive thing about Sarah Palin’s knock-em-down-drag-em-out speech. His whine was “Poor Obabam. He’s been belittled.” I guess that just won’t do, even though that’s been the name of the game in every political KO from time immemorial.
It’s allowed for the Dems but, obviously, not for the GOP.
Then, there’s Gwen Ifel, who’s had a perpetual grimace on her face since the beginning of the RNC. I used to think she was one of the better and more intelligent commentators. Not any more. ‘Same meme as Shields: “Palin belittled Obama.” Grimace.
I’m wondering if they all got together before the speech and agreed to use the term “belittled” because it’s everywhere in the media this morning. Speaking truth to lies (Obama’s got 20 years of experience…yeah, right) is not belittling your opponent. It’s letting the facts–which because of the media coverup for Barry are hard to come by–speak for themselves and making sure that the voting public knows what the facts are.
Lots of people and media seem upset she attacked community organizers. Is that any different than all the attacks they did on small towns and their mayors. She didn’t attack ALL organizers, just the experience gained by O for being one.
Ooops! Palin stuck her foot into it and blew ALL arguments from the Right about misogyny! LOL!
leftdog: As one of my daughters likes to say, “What are you TALKING about?”
Just checked the lyrics to the Heart song “Barracuda”…Too bad they don’t really match this ticket (The Barracuda is the bad one in the story, maybe Obama will play it?) but just the same, a great tune with a kick ass galoping type riff that’s perfect for an election campaign…Still, I would not be surprized they (Reps) play segments of it and more so to hear: “Oh would’nt you?, Barracuda”…Just have to find out which political affiliation Anne and Nancy Wilson (Heart) have.
Seems this woman is shaking things up, big time. And not just in the US, all over the world. A female leader like this, she could inspire a generation of political leaders to come.
Hopefully Canada can get a Sarah Palin type leader in the near future, male or female.
“She didn’t write her own speech.”
Is that the best you leftogynists can come up with?
“Duh, I’m not gonna vote for her. Like, she can’t even write speeches.”
And if you think the line about hockey moms, pit bulls and lipstick came from the beltway, you’re dumber than I thought.
An interesting side note — McCain’s choice of Palin was originally criticized because this choice would neutralize his ability to go after Obama with respect to lack of experience. This appears not to be true — the fact that the two are similarly inexperienced gives room to highlight the differences as happened last night. I don’t think too many people would be able to have credibility in delivering a remark like “using the presidency for self-development” — or whatever it was. Indeed Obama’s experience does look a bit fuzzy in comparison to hers, even though I agree they are both without much.
leftdog:
Palin is ‘da bomb’ for the Dogs Neutered by Convention (DNC) Obama-Nation(tm) coronation of the Obamessiah.
Styrofoam Greek columns indeed.
It was an exercise in “Columny” the way they have tried to slag Palin.
Since when are a politician’s children ‘fair game’ in an election campaign?
I think the Democrats are going to get a “McCaning” at the ballot box, and they will be “Palin” when they see the final tally.
Cheers

Democrats are going to get a “McCaning” and and “ImPalin” at the ballot box.
What a nightmare for the Dems, here you have an accomplished self-made female with Palin who isn’t an entitled whinning victim hag. She just went about her life serving her family and community getting the job done.
Sure, she has a lot to learn in areas like foreign policy, but, unlike the Empty Suit she knows that. The vacuous little fool doesn’t have the humility to admit he knows nothing which makes him so dangerous.
I hope Palin signals the end of the old lefty feminist paradigm that has poisoned our culture. Young women deserve better.
A classic from our friends at Canoe.ca
“Do you think Sarah Palin is a flash in the pan or will she hold onto her stardom?”
Yes?
No?
Undecided.
They forgot the “Fire the proof reader” option.
Bang-on, ET: Obama’s focus has always been on himself; he’s developed no legislature; instead, he’s written two autobiographies about himself.
Is it fair to bring up narcissism as a character flaw in a candidate? I guess that would depend on who is in the peanut gallery. The converted don’t want to hear the truth, it buggers-up their manufactured, pollyannish notions of reality.
For the nutcase protesters that tend to gravitate towards the Democrats, well, they’re beyond reason and rightly deserve the Zombie moniker.
http://www.zombietime.com/
No candidate writes their own speeches; they don’t have the time. They have speechwriters.
That includes Obama who has a large team of speechwriters.
However, the candidates do work on them, vet them, they don’t permit anything in those speeches that does not represent them.
So, to attack Palin because she didn’t write her own speech is a red herring. Equally, to attack Palin because she ‘belittled’ Obama is trivial. She justifiably criticized Obama for his shallowness, his lack of actual strategies, his focus on emotional rhetoric, his lack of experience.. If such information belittles him, it’s justified.
SARAH PALIN, ERA OF THE BULL BITCHES IS OVER, THANK YOU.
Real women and motherhood thanks to one real woman may be back where it should be in the hierarchy of Western Civilization, at the top. SOW types, go back to your wallows of insignificance, insecurity and unimportance where you belong.
