  1. Vitruvius, you’ve almost certainly enlightened a few people. That said I myself would take the throat singing of the Xhosa in Africa over this.
In fact I’d say in general that the sub-Saharan Africans are pretty darn good when it comes to music and singing.
And I’ll take Maria Callas any day over the Xhosa.

“Court heard that on Nov. 3, 2006, Taj approached a group of young people who were waiting for a C-Train and asked, “Who’s Jewish?”
One of the three 16-year-old girls replied, “Me.”
McCaffrey said Taj grabbed her and stated, “I’m Muslim and hate Jews,” then smacked her in the face with an open hand and pulled her hair.
The victim’s friends came to her aid, and the offender continued his attack by punching the other two girls in the face.
He also punched an 18-year-old male and pushed him onto the tracks, injuring his hand and leg.”
Wonder if the CBC and the HRCs will scream about this one? Naaaah.

  3. THE REGINA LEADER-POST and the SASKATOON STAR-PHOENIX are supposed to be Saskatchewan’s two top newspapers. On their free online editions, they offer a site named “Sound-Off” where readers can express their views on a number of topics.
For years I used to get upset when I’d send in a letter to the editor of the “hard copy” of the two newspapers, and my “right wing” views weren’t published. When the electronic edition appreared, I thought “hey man, this is the new millenium, finally, I’m going to be heard.” Well guess what folks, the Leader and the Phoenix still supress “right wing” views. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Tommy Douglas still has them in his back pocket!!

  4. I just meandered over to ‘Babble’as I do on occasion to hear what the other side of the coin has to say. There is a thread going that denounces Tarek Fatah as a crackpot. Amazing, just freaking amazing. This man, who may be one of the few voices of sanity in Canada when it comes to islam,is being trashed by the dippers….. Time to shake my head, sit back and listen to some soothing throat music. Thanks Mr. V.

  5. Top about a movie you may want to catch. . .
This part of a newsletter sets the context.

The lights dim, signaling that it’ll soon be time for the movie to begin. At once, the murmur of conversation turns more urgent. I hear the clank of forks on plates, spearing that last delicious morsel – then the clatter of those same plates being roughly stacked on the rapidly filling trays that dot the room. Hundreds of folks begin ambling toward the nearest bar for a top-off of wine or a fresh beer they can sip during the flick…
    It’s show time.
Space doesn’t permit me to talk too much about I.O.U.S.A. – you’re reading this for investment news and views, not movie reviews. But I will say this much: If the tenor and intensity of the questions that followed the movie in a special Q & A session with Addison and former U.S. Comptroller General David Walker (who stars in the film) are any indication, this film has a tremendous impact on audiences…
I predict, based on what I gathered from talking to dozens of people after the show – and what I heard following the 3 sold-out showings of a previous cut of this movie at the Maryland film festival this spring – I.O.U.S.A. is going to make a sizeable splash on the American scene when it’s released in major metro-area markets in August. So it won’t be long before you can see it for yourself.
And you should. It’s the most eye-opening, sobering true horror movie you’ll ever see.

FORMER NASA astronaut and moon-walker Dr Edgar Mitchell – a veteran of the Apollo 14 mission – has stunningly claimed aliens exist.
And he says extra-terrestrials have visited Earth on several occasions – but the alien contact has been repeatedly covered up by governments for six decades.
Dr Mitchell, 77, said during a radio interview that sources at the space agency who had had contact with aliens described the beings as ‘little people who look strange to us.’

  8. There is speculation that Harper will call for by elections in early September for 3 vacant ridings. Candidates in two of the ridings are CBC personalities. Three guesses as to which party they are running for.

The NDP is … once again fielding high-profile candidates drawn from outside the realm of federal politics. Tom King, the award-winning author and CBC broadcaster, is running for the party in Guelph while Anne Legace Dawson, another CBC personality, will represent the party in Westmount-Ville Marie.

Hey nv, let me tell you, they will ban you in a heartbeat over there at Babble. From membership sign-up to being banned only took me 90 minutes! My crime? I quoted Jihadwatch.org as a source. Great fun though watching them try to counter your arguments. They tire very quickly, and soon resort to calling you a “racist”.

  12. For the life of me I have no idea why I even tried but this morning on the way to work I thought I would listen to the CBC World News. That was a mistake as I quickly found out. Of all the things that are happening in Canada and the world, the lead story was an “exclusive” interview with the father of the knife wielding teen in Winnipeg that died after being tazed by cops. The father described the unemployed, dropout 17 year old as a resourceful person. his hanging around bars and picking up roach butts (marijuana leftovers) to put together to make a joint was a source of pride for this “father of the year” candidate. Now it looks like the old man will have to go out and panhandle to get money for clothes to go to the funeral. What heartwrenching dribble!
Next story was even better. Looks like drunk driver charges is down lately as is the number of deaths related to drunk driving. I thought it was good news until they dragged up “experts” that claimed that police weren’t doing their jobs as well since the arrests were down. WTF? I thought the idea was to get the deaths and alchol related accidents down, not put a cop and breathalyzer on every street corner.
If that is what passes as national news from the taxpayer’s funding then the CBC is worse than I thought and I was stupid to have turned to that channel in the first place.

  13. Apparently the UN thinks that the Brits treat muslims badly and need to have an attitude correction.
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2457699/Treat-Muslims-better%2C-Britain-told-by-UN.html
The gist of it being :The nine-member human rights committee composed of legal experts, said it was concerned “negative public attitudes towards Muslim members of society” continued to be allowed in Britain.
It recommended the Government “should take energetic measures to eliminated this phenomenon and ensure that authors of such acts of discrimination on the basis of religion are adequately deterred and sanctioned.”
Sounds like they have taken their cue from the CHRC.
I wonder, if another muslim goes nutty and blows himself up, and since that would help create negative public attitudes towards muslims, could we then sanction said nutty muslim?
Perhaps we could drop his afterlife quota of 72 nubile virgins to perhaps 16 Naomi Kleins + 1 Jennifer Lynch.

  17. texas canuck – the facts that the 17 year old hung around bars and smoked marijuana etc are utterly irrelevant to the fact that he was killed by a police-wielded taser – because he was holding a knife. In my view, the action of the police is not defensible.
With regards to babble (and I won’t go there to read that thread)- what is interesting is how the left, by rejecting Tarek Fatah and his efforts to modernize Islam – they are essentially promoting the isolationism of identity politics.
They define people only within groups, in this case, a cultural and religious group, and by heck – you’d better stay in your group without change. Or else. Sounds rather like the Old South of 100 years ago to me.

Obama has a problem: What do you do when you’re a lightly accomplished one-term senator, a former state legislator from Illinois, a Harvard law graduate who has no substantive record of accomplishments and are running against a war hero whom polls show that Americans overwhelmingly view as far more fit to be commander in chief? Pose, of course. What else can a guy like Mr. Obama do?

NBC’s Andrea Mitchell was the one journalist with the courage to name what she was actually seeing happen: Mr. Obama faking even being interviewed by the press. “Let me say something about the message management. He didn’t have reporters with him, he didn’t have a press pool, he didn’t do a press conference,” either in Afghanistan or Iraq, noted Miss Mitchell on the air. Instead Mr. Obama manufactured “what some would call ‘fake interviews,’ because they are not interviews from a journalist,” Miss Mitchell added…

The anointed one’s pilgrimage to the Holy Land is a miracle in action – and a blessing to all his faithful followers.
And it came to pass, in the eighth year of the reign of the evil Bush the Younger (The Ignorant), when the whole land from the Arabian desert to the shores of the Great Lakes had been laid barren, that a Child appeared in the wilderness.
The Child was blessed in looks and intellect. Scion of a simple family, offspring of a miraculous union, grandson of a typical white person and an African peasant. And yea, as he grew, the Child walked in the path of righteousness, with only the occasional detour into the odd weed and a little blow.
When he was twelve years old, they found him in the temple in the City of Chicago, arguing the finer points of community organisation with the Prophet Jeremiah and the Elders. And the Elders were astonished at what they heard and said among themselves: “Verily, who is this Child that he opens our hearts and minds to the audacity of hope?”

A mysterious explosion in a suburb of Teheran that killed 15 people last Saturday was likely an attack on a Iranian military convoy carrying arms to Hizbullah, the Telegraph reported Friday.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guards imposed a news black-out immediately after the blast, but the UK newspaper reported that it looked like sabotage was responsible for destroying the convoy as it traveled through Khavarshahar.
The newspaper noted that the company responsible for moving the military equipment, LTK, was owned by the Revolutionary Guards and was allegedly involved in shipping arms to Hizbullah.
Last Saturday’s incident was the latest in a series of mysterious explosions in the Islamic republic.

    Gloomy summer headed toward infamy
CHILLY: Anchorage could hit 65 degrees for fewest days on record.
The coldest summer ever? You might be looking at it, weather folks say.
Right now the so-called summer of ’08 is on pace to produce the fewest days ever recorded in which the temperature in Anchorage managed to reach 65 degrees.
That unhappy record was set in 1970, when we only made it to the 65-degree mark, which many Alaskans consider a nice temperature, 16 days out of 365.
This year, however — with the summer more than half over — there have been only seven 65-degree days so far. And that’s with just a month of potential “balmy” days remaining and the forecast looking gloomy.

    “India challenges global warming fears
India has issued a report challenging global warming fears. This is dramatic. The Indian Prime Minister’s Council on Climate Change said that India would rather save its people from poverty than global warming, and would not cut growth in order to cut gases.
Referring to claimed changes in climate attributed to human activity, the report declares: “No firm link between the documented charges described below and warming due to an anthropogenic climate change has yet been established.”
The report goes on to state: “It is obvious that India needs to substantially increase its per capita energy consumption to provide a minimally acceptable level of wellbeing to its people . . . India is determined that its per capita greenhouse-gas emissions will at no point exceed those of developed countries.”
The Australian Herald noted that this declaration “means India won’t stop its per capita emissions (now at 1,02 t) from growing until they match those of countries such as the US (now at 20 t).”
This Indian report was music to my ears. I have constantly said that developing countries cannot afford to let their school children do homework at night by candle light rather than by electric light, in an effort to save on electricity production, on the basis of the flimsy evidence presented in favour of man-induced climate change.
So we must ask ourselves: what is the main source of these claims that the Indian report referred to? The answer is that the claims mainly originate from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, commonly referred to as the IPCC.”

These ice sheets expanded and contracted until around 14 million years ago, during the Miocene epoch, when a dramatic cooling took place and transformed the tundra into an environment “that today looks like Mars,” Marchant told LiveScience.”

    Stoolie: Canadian politician in mob
    BY GREG B. SMITH

Alfonso Gagliano has held titles in Canada that include labor minister, deputy House leader, ambassador to Denmark and minister of public works.
In New York he held a different kind of title, according to secret FBI documents obtained by the Daily News: “made” member of the Bonanno crime family.
Gagliano was identified as a longtime soldier in the Bonanno crime family by Frank Lino, a former Mafia capo-turned-informer.
Lino is now cooperating with the FBI and federal prosecutors as they slowly take apart the mob family to which he once swore allegiance.
Gagliano’s name surfaced as Lino described the Bonanno family’s operations in Montreal, which has served as an outpost for the Brooklyn-based group for decades.
He said he and a group of top Bonanno gangsters traveled to Montreal in the 1990s to let the northern branch office know the family had a new boss, Joseph Massino.
The group met at a catering hall, and during the meeting, a Bonanno gangster, Joseph Lopresti, introduced Gagliano to Lino as a made man in the family, FBI documents state.”

The Taliban has created a sophisticated communications apparatus that projects an increasingly confident movement. Using the full range of media, it is successfully tapping into strains of Afghan nationalism and exploiting policy failures by the Kabul government and its international backers. The result is weakening public support for nation-building, even though few actively support the Taliban. The Karzai government and its allies must make greater efforts, through word and deed, to address sources of alienation exploited in Taliban propaganda, particularly by ending arbitrary detentions and curtailing civilian casualties from aerial bombing…
