Don Surber adds the “rest of the story”;
There is a happy ending. [550 metric tonnes of yellowcake] is not in the hands of terrorists, thanks to President Bush’s actions for which he has been hammered by the left for 5+ years.
[…]
There is a reason Bush has not fought back against critics: National security. There are secrets a president cannot divulge in his lifetime. History vindicates the Harry Trumans — and punishes the Bill Clintons. Never equate popularity with quality.

An interesting lot these leftards are. At the blink of an eye they join the dots:
Duck hunter to mass murderer
Mass murderer to nuclear enthusiast

http://www.philly.com/inquirer/world_us/20080706_Iraq_s_nuclear__yellowcake__moved_to_Canada.html
The shill for McCain should give the full story.
I expect this fear mongering from the MSM.
Sigh…this is an open comment to those of us who belong to the right wing of political discourse who are posting on this forum:
Please extricate foot from mouth before commenting and do a little research about Iraq, it’s nuclear weapons program, and what exactly yellow cake is.
We could ship this stuff to Afghanistan and let them have a ball trying to enrich it. Some people here are talking as if we’re simply separating water from oil or something. Get it straight, enrichment requires enormous resources and technical resources beyond the scope of most nations of the world.
As to where the yellow cake came from? It’s extremely well known that this is yellow cake that was bought in the 80’s to fuel Iraq’s nuclear program which was then being developed in France. Once Iraq began building in their own country with the help of the french, their enrichment processes failed, and Israel ended up bombing their plants into oblivion. Since then it’s just been sitting around gather dust.
Not to get too off topic, but the whole entire idea that Iraq was buying yellowcake from Nigeria is completely debunked finally in the world at large. They had hundreds of tons lying around in the first place, so there goes another excuse for Bush’s war. So please, don’t make a fool of yourself by trying to claim that this is actual _justification_ for the war, when it is in fact completely the opposite.
Wow. That any of you actually think GWB has done a good job show just how blisteringly stupid you are. I didn’t think anybody could still be suckered by that bible salesman, but you rubes proved me wrong. Bravo.
Iraq is a mess. Anyone who denies this probably also believes that some god guy created the earth in six days, and that climate change is not happening. Concepts that are generally held in high regard in this musty corner of the internets.
A quick refresher… Bush’s actions have resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of Iraqis, the shattering of their shitty economy, a considerably lower standard of living, and has dangerously destabilized an already screwy region. Nice work there wonder nuts.
As for yellowcake… it is mostly harmless. Or rather, not much more harmful than lead paint. Meaning… you should want to stay away from this crap, but shouldn’t worry about it’s value as anything more than a slightly refined ore.
Can you dummies try not to panic for a change?
John,
I don’t like Bush whatsoever, but I think that Iraq will eventually recover. Things are finally improving however slowly years and years after “mission accomplished”. Who knows though, it still might all go to hell.
As to climate change, the world is warming very slowly, no one doubts that, but are we the direct cause of such warming?
Here’s some quick info for you:
CO2 actually only accounts for like 6% of the GH effect (normalized) relative to other factors like water vapor and methane, and since we as humanity contribute like 3% of nature’s natural emissions of CO2, we’re only really talking about humanity adding 0.18% to the GH effect. And yet this is somehow the entire reason that our entire planet is supposed to suddenly turn into a desert?
Not only that, but studies have shown that bio density across the planet has double in growth in the last few years, that plant life is exploding in many regions of the world due to our ever richer CO2 atmosphere. Now, I agree we need to work towards leaving our atmosphere as it naturally is until we understand it better, which is why I support moderate CO2 reductions for the future. I think we should move to greener fuels like Nuclear power, or wind where it’s applicable and proven. We shouldn’t be rushing into green tech’s like biofuel (hugest mistake ever).
Oh, and I just wanted to note that I do not believe there was even the slightest justification for the invasion of Iraq, but the U.S. is there, so they’d better finish the job and do their best to set up a stable viable nation state.
Afghanistan on the other hand is a war I’m 100% in favor for so long as we continue to uphold our ethos of reconstruction and actually creating a better standard of living for Afghan’s. If we lose that as a priority of the mission then I don’t see the point of us being there.
I took the undergraduate course and study in reserach for one year later i took antother course my gradate in during my master degree I have in totoal of two years research about Ontario Nuclear waste management, I can frankly say there is very risk and hazardous exit even during transportation, some student even if they got offer of lots of money not like to work in nuclear facility because it is so danger and risk involve
I think Canada need to get this transportation very seriously while I do not think they do only did job for favor follow order from USA , in result they need to hire people already work in Iraq, Iran or Germany in nuclear facility and /or hire graduate student from Egypt, England, USA, Iran and Iraq to either as student visa or work permit to work in research and work in nuclear facility the facility in Canada is very weak and not too up to date and student are not act so smart to this course or even they are not like to work in such a hazardous facility when they know all the fact since risk involve
If you transport the nuclear you need to transport expert with it in Canada to able to run or handle this very danger facility in any shape Canada plan to use Canadian act more dummy to this matter so far again not see it too seriously
If they do they can get advantage of use nuclear facility if not they may get disaster of not able to handle it properly
Just becarfull about this handling
Yellowake is Uranium hexaflouride, the basic state that Uranium is moved about in. There is no point in posessing “Hex” unless one wants to develop Uranium “industries”, such as bombs or power generation stations. The latter are undertaken publicly.
haye
Given the total illiteracy of your statement, reposted below for your convenience, you obviously have no education whatsoever, except, possibly, from Ontario institutions.

You are a liar as to your identity. You are a plant, a fake, a spin-bubbler’s gyro-top. You are BS.
My grand mother’s best advice is that the best answer to dummy nonMuslim people who always talk silly is basically to do not answer them at all,
as you noticed most muslim are not communicate with nonMuslim unless they have some good plan to do
I thought ‘yuck’ is better word in compare with BS or S use for people with thier remarks with high education am I right ? I should ask children of nonMuslim may tell the truth, because you can not expect nonMuslim adult hardly tell any truth in thier life and still belive Muslim are liar
It puzzles me that sane people are not begging that Iran’s enrichment facilities be obliterated.
Tenebris,
Yes! it’s amazing that so many educated pll would believe that the Percentage of Enrichment obtained is determined by a source pecking order. Like going to a store
We want Weapons grade = US enrichment Facility
We want reactor grade = Canadian enrichment Facility
We want dirty grade = Crazy Sadam or Iran
But that is a fairy tale… Most process’s start by seeking to produce the highest order and Grade is determined by the % of yield obtained.
The US Facilities simply produce a greater % of Weapons grade.
Yellow Cake harmless.. my ass
barjebus: “We could ship this stuff to Afghanistan and let them have a ball trying to enrich it”
You mean like their Islamic neighbour to the east? 550 tons is enough to build at least 100 nuclear weapons…just getting that first one done is the trick. You think Father Khan did that first one alone?

Nutdog’s assertion that buying physical yellowcake is as easy as picking up bags of topsoil at Rona is intriguing and I’d like to see him make the attempt. A substance that emits 300,000 times the radiation as natural soil couldn’t possibly be a controlled substance, could it? If an energy industry logging company loses a tool off a truck containing a small amount of a radioactive isotope there’s an immediate investigation and potentially huge costs to the company. Incidently, those isotope losses are causing some recent news too:

Saddam already had 550 tons of yellowcake and certainly had access to the knowledge needed for that “first one”. All he needed to resurrect his nuke program was for everyone to act like the EU and IAEA and go back to sleep or silently get out of the way. That almost happened except for some guy with a stubborn streak and a strong will to defend the American people.
Those that think there was no impending threat have eaten too much of their own ‘cake.
Typical little asshat, that barjebus. The same little worms that didn’t stop WWII … no need to read the warning signs (only over a decade). Thanks to people like you millions died … including asshats like you.
After all, Hitler was just a military machine hobbyist.
“Saddam already had 550 tons of yellowcake and certainly had access to the knowledge needed for that “first one”. All he needed to resurrect his nuke program was for everyone to act like the EU and IAEA and go back to sleep or silently get out of the way.”
Wow, it appears that could has somehow mutated itself into the word “inevitably”. American’s have Nuclear weapons. They COULD launch them. Omg let’s stop America? Obviously it’s not that simple with regards to the middle east, but you and Ural are willfully ignoring objective facts:
-Iraq was having difficulty even enriching with the help of the French, a people who currently derive 75% of their power from Nuclear Reactors.
-Iraq had this yellowcake sitting around for two decades. He did not sell it. And wtf is “all he needed to do was ressurect his nuclear program” supposed to mean?? Are you out of your mind? Enrichment isn’t doing titration in a high school chemistry lab you tool, it requires experienced people, hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars of equipment, and then fairly large quantities of time to actually gather enough weapons grade material from the reactor. THEN you’d have to build the bomb, which although it’s easier, it’s still pretty hit or miss for a country like Iraq, who lacks the experience and people for such an enterprise.
Obviously it’s great that the yellowcake is out of that country, but claiming that Saddam was as large a danger to the world as Hitler is not only stupid, it’s laughable.
My final point is this. When Saddam was originally pursuing nuclear power, or a nuclear weapons, they waited a great deal of time to let Iraq spend tons of money on the facility, and then promptly blew it up in an air strike. It was cleverly done with no life lost, but it essentially ended Saddam’s nuclear ambitions.
Now, please, go ahead, convince me why a complete invasion was necessary? Oh riiight, there were…what, chemical weapons or something? Or was it because an Iraqi official met with an Al-Qaeda official somewhere in Europe, but we’re not sure why? Maybe we should invade Saudi Arabia too then, since enormous numbers of Jihadist’s and Al-Qaeda members hail from that nation and receive a great deal of funding from various oil rich families there. How about you drop the hypocrisy and get a grip on reality hmm?
