  1. The “scratching” of the old 78 can get to you after a while! The problem was later solved by using various grooves on the record, and by using softer vinyl. . In Wurlitzer jukeboxes, they had all but eliminated static and surface interference sound by the 60’s. Today they use a special comoputer program to eliminate background noise, static etc.
What is hard to imitate however is the sound of a brass band!! Tommy Dorsey was a master!!

  3. SPECIAL “CLOSED SESSION” OF U.S. HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES DISCUSSED A LOT MORE THAN
    THE PENDING SECURITY SURVEILLANCE PROVISIONS!
This was only the fourth time in 176 years that Congress
has closed its doors to the public. What was it that they
were discussing that they do NOT want us to know about?
Word has begun leaking from last nights special, closed-door
session of the United States House of Representatives.
Not only did members discuss new surveillance provisions as
was the publicly stated reason for the closed door session, they
    also discussed:
    1. the imminent collapse of the U.S. economy to occur by
    September 2008,
    2. the imminent collapse of US federal government finances
    by February 2009,
    3. the possibility of Civil War inside the USA as a result of
    the collapse,
    4. advance round-ups of “insurgent U.S. citizens” likely to
    move against the government,
    5. the detention of those rounded-up at “REX 84” camps
    constructed throughout the USA,
    6. the possibility of retaliation against members of Congress
    for the collapses,
    7. the location of “safe facilities” for members of Congress
and their families to reside during expected massive civil
    unrest,
    8. the necessary and unavoidable merger of the United States
with Canada (for its natural resources) and with Mexico (for its
    cheap labor pool),
    9. the issuance of a new currency – THE AMERO – for all three
nations as the proposed solution to the coming economic
    armageddon.
Members of Congress were FORBIDDEN to reveal what was discussed.
Several are so furious and concerned about the future of the contry, they
have begun leaking info. More details coming later today and over the
    weekend. SPREAD THE WORD!!!

  4. “BEIJING — Rioters torched a police building and vehicles in southwest China on Saturday, in unrest triggered by allegations of a cover-up over a girl’s death, according to Chinese accounts on the Internet.

ons that police had ignored a family’s claim that their 15-year old daughter, whose body was found in a river a week ago, appeared to have been raped and possibly murdered, the accounts said.
Blogs linked to the popular Sina.com Chinese Web site (www.sina.com.cn) showed pictures of thousands of people surrounding a police headquarters, riot police guarding the burning shell of the building, and burnt and overturned police vehicles.

The accounts said a youth alleged to have attacked the girl may have been the son of a senior county official or police officer.
“Without conducting a full autopsy, the police believed the girl committed suicide by jumping in a river, and they did not take mandatory measures against the suspect and ignored the family’s call for a full autopsy,” said one account.

Attorney General Chris Bentley says Ontario is bringing the Human Rights Code into the 21st century.
Changes that take effect today will give Ontarians filing human rights complaints faster service and access to legal support.
Bentley says the Ontario Government is streamlining the process for individuals who feel they’ve been discriminated against.
Ontarians will now bring their concerns directly to the Human Rights Tribunal, bypassing the Human Rights Commission.
Under the old system, anyone with a human rights issue filed a complaint with the Commission for review. If the Commission ruled the complaint had legitimacy it would then be referred to the Tribunal.”

  9. Do check out the eastern press (Monday) re changes to the HRC in ON (apparently now to be the HRT in ON). Changes are effective virtually forthwith and it is not about discussion.
Who is following whom as it seems like ON is moving in the direction of BC with only an HRT. It seems all about the complainant – accessing legal aid, lifting the $10K cap on awards, extending time for filing, etc. Surely BC is not becoming the model for dealing with human rights in Canada.
What happens with the ON HRC now after getting $millions about the same time that B. Hall was doing her thing? Is it possible it will, in effect, become the marketing tool for the ON HRT?

  13. Contrary to popular belief Obama does in fact have policies. And they are awful:
    “Combat Employment Discrimination
Obama will work to overturn the Supreme Court’s recent ruling that curtails racial minorities’ and women’s ability to challenge pay discrimination. Obama will also pass the Fair Pay Act to ensure that women receive equal pay for equal work and the Employment Non-Discrimination Act to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity or expression.
    Expand Hate Crimes Statutes
Obama will strengthen federal hate crimes legislation, expand hate crimes protection by passing the Matthew Shepherd Act, and reinvigorate enforcement at the Department of Justice’s Criminal Section.

    End Racial Profiling
Obama will ban racial profiling by federal law enforcement agencies and provide federal incentives to state and local police departments to prohibit the practice.
Reduce Crime Recidivism by Providing Ex-Offender Support
Obama will provide job training, substance abuse and mental health counseling to ex-offenders, so that they are successfully re-integrated into society. Obama will also create a prison-to-work incentive program to improve ex-offender employment and job retention rates.

Increase the Minimum Wage: As president, Obama will raise the minimum wage to $9.50 an hour by 2011 and index it to inflation so full-time workers can earn a living wage that allows them to raise their families and pay for basic needs such as food, transportation, and housing – things so many people take for granted.”

  15. Spengler, How to stop the Great Crash of ’08
The oil price has doubled in the past year because the US Federal Reserve panicked over risks to the over-leveraged financial system and flooded markets with excess liquidity. The world is willing to pay arbitrarily high prices to hedge against inflation, but the cost of inflation hedges drags down the world economy. Last week’s spike in commodity prices and swoon in global stock markets points the way to a deep and prolonged fall in economic activity.
Breaking out of the death spiral still is possible. With mixed emotions, I propose a simple solution. In fact, a crash would not be an altogether bad thing for the United States. At least it would exorcise the something-for-nothing culture of the past two decades…

The guest list for the funeral mass for “Meet the Press” anchor Tim Russert was an “A list” of politicians and media mentionables. Real reporters mixed with the television personalities and the network executives who control their lives. It was a black day for journalism in NBC: Russert’s death released one of the last brakes slowing NBC’s descent into political activism and journalistic irrelevance.
NBC was once the proud home of real journalists. People such as Chet Huntley and David Brinkley brought its standards to — and above — the level prevalent in most news organizations. But now, it’s an asylum for people such as Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann…

  17. “The guy really does want to turn America into Canada.”
Which would result in, among other things, an increase in overall life expectancy, a healthier population overall, an increase in post-secondary educational attainment levels, a decline in absolute and relative poverty, a drastic decline in pre- and post-transfer child poverty, a reduction in per capita homicide rates and firearm-related murders, a modest improvement in overall environmental sustainability, and a more favourable perception among both international allies and foes.
What a horrible turn of events that would be.

  21. False advertizing is a serious, punishable crime.
So when our beloved Media spins information and leads us to believe it is news and factual and representative when in fact it is not – that’s ok !?
Is giving a small, agenda driven group of friends widespread media coverage not the same thing as propaganda ?
We report you decide? We brainwash, you obey?
    On June 12th CTV did their best to spin the “outrage” against Conservative MP Pierre Poilievre, printing opinion such as;
[On CTV’s Mike Duffy Live, opposition MPs called Poilievre’s comments “racist” and those of a “redneck.” ] CTV
[“What surfaced in Poilievre’s remark was the old Reform-Alliance racist attitude that this Conservative Party has been trying to run away from,” Liberal MP Ujjal Dosanjh said. ]CTV
[CTV parliamentary correspondent Roger Smith said many Conservatives are also angry at Poilievre.
“Certainly the content of what he said is very debatable, his timing was not very good at all,” said Smith.
CTV’s Craig Oliver said on Mike Duffy Live that Poilievre’s comments took the edge off “Stephen Harper’s best day as prime minister” and that Harper had to be furious.]CTV
    Was this all a media-outrage only ?? One would think so, judging by the backing the “beleaguered” MP is recieving from his Constituency;
[Constituency reaction to Poilievre’s comments were 95 per cent positive] The Hill Times
[Pierre Poilievre, who friends say is a politician with strong convictions and a natural gift for politics, won’t have to worry too much about his controversial comments on the day of the Prime Minister’s Indian residential schools apology. In fact, his supporters and detractors alike say the MP’s support in his riding may have increased as a result.] THT

Canadian Court to Father: Grounding Daughter ‘Too Severe’ a Punishment
    By Allison Aldrich
    CNSNews.com Correspondent
    June 26, 2008
(CNSNews.com) – What started as a simple case of parent-child disagreement has turned into what some fear is a precedent-setting ruling.
In Quebec, a 12-year-old girl repeatedly ignored her father’s rules and posted a profile of herself at an online dating site. Her father then grounded her from attending her sixth grade field trip.
The punishment lasted as long as it took the girl to notify her court-appointed lawyer, have the judge “fast-track” the case, and ultimately get her punishment overturned by a Quebec Superior Court.

Want more of this insanity? Vote Liberal!

    Typical reporting from Canadian MSM.
Canada is turning into a police state, according to Liberal MP Ujjal Dosanjh and New Democrat MP Joe Comartin.
Then we have someone from John Howard Society, no mention of what they do or represent or ‘left-leaning’ that would be mentioned if it was a right wing org, complaining about ‘ideological government’ and how all his friends think the same.
Then we get comparison to saint Anne McLellan, who didn’t appoint some many cops, don’t you know.
If we can stomach all the crap that we have read up to this point the writer finally gets around to mentioning the appointees are well qualified and eligible for appointment.
Jail works, as far as I am concerned. You take criminals off the streets and stop them from committing more crimes. Simple.”

  24. Updated link on the NASA Hansen poll (see June 28th “Calling SDA Nation”):
    http://wattsupwiththat.wordpress.com/2008/06/30/reader-poll-james-hansen-calls-for-trials-of-energy-executives-what-next/
So far 39% of responses are calling for witch trials of energy execs compared to 34% wanting Hansen fired out of 48,662 votes. Yesterday the poll results were the opposite with ~40% calling for Hansen’s firing compared to ~25% favoring oil exec trials. That’s a big telling switch – the leftnut sites linking to the poll would make Mugabe proud.

  26. Mara Hvistendahl, No Country for Young Men
The macho violence spurting forth through outlets like war games is a growing trend in Chinese society–and China’s one-child policy, in effect since 1979, is partly responsible. The country’s three decades of iron-fisted population planning coincided with a binge in sex-selective abortions (Chinese traditionally favor sons, who carry on the family line) and a rise, even as the country developed, in female infant mortality. After almost 30 years of the policy, China now has the largest gender imbalance in the world, with 37 million more men than women and almost 20 percent more newborn boys than girls nationwide.
By the time these newborns reach puberty, war games may seem like a quaint relic. In the 2020s, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences researcher Zheng Zhenzhen, estimates in a People’s Daily interview that 10 percent of Chinese men will be unable to find wives, which could have a huge impact on Chinese society…
Abe Greenwald, All the Violent Young Men, discusses how China’s artificial “youth bulge” of young, urban men exacerbates the situation:
Amazingly, while greater China is facing financial challenges due to its aging population, urban China may be mimicking youth bulge conditions. Watching present-day China is not so much a matter of spotting the ways in which its open markets will lead to continued growth, but spotting the converging hairline cracks in a gigantic dam.
