Y2Kyoto: I Miss The Arctic Ice Cap

Canadian Press;

For the first time in its history, Husky Energy (TSX:HSE) has shut down production at the White Rose offshore oil project because of the threat posed by icebergs drifting nearby.
Production has been shut down since Tuesday after thick sheets of ice accompanied by “sizable” icebergs were spotted near the oilfield, said Ruud Zoon, Husky’s vice-president of East Coast operations.
“Obviously, we want to stay away from icebergs coming in contact with our production installation,” Zoon said in an interview Wednesday.
[…]
“This is an annual event, when the pack ice moves south. However, this time it’s actually moved further south and closer to our production installations.”

  1. The only thing I’m wondering is why the icebergs? Could it be “real GW?”. Who knows…

  2. my question would be two-fold…are the icebergs traveling farther south because the sea temperature is lower? or 2) are they traveling further south because they are that much bigger and are not melting fast enough?
The article doesn’t address either question.

  3. “This is an annual event, when the pack ice moves south. However, this time it’s actually moved further south and closer to our production installations.”
That’s what happens when record ice levels are reached and Exceeded. However, most media will ignore this, and wait for August to talk about melting ice caps again.

  4. It’s obvious what’s happening. The ice cap is breaking up and drifting south. The icebergs are cooling off the the ocean further south which in turn causes the cold weather we’ve experienced this winter and spring.
You see, Global Warming causes cooler weather. Simple!

  5. aL gORICIAL AND tHE FRUIT fly should help us understand Global cooling effect. They are experts on climate control.

  6. Sean S.:
Any member of the MSM, with the notable exceptions of Lorrie Goldstein and a couple others, can tell you – the answer is quite simple. It is the one which will reinforce the concept of global warming. So, the ocean is much warmer causing the icebergs to move further south than normal and the reason they are so large is that global warming has caused ever larger chunks of ice to fall into the sea. They can’t confirm however because it’s so cold and there’s so much ice that they can’t get anywhere near the ice cap itself. sarc/off

  7. I hate to point this out, but this is the kind of spin I’d expect from the AGW nuts.
“For the first time in its history” Yes in it’s vast history since 2005. Only a tad more ridiculous than saying the north west passage hasn’t opened up in it’s vast history (of official records since the 70s.)

  8. The purpose of the Y2Kyoto series is primarily to mock. When it’s hot in the summer, the deniers are told “Don’t believe in global warming? Just look out your window!”….
Then, it cools down, and they seamlessly shift to reminding us that local weather trends do not a climate make.

  9. But but… As soon as you mock leftards beliefs they complain that you’re attacking them personally. Then they come back at you with the vicious ad-hominems.
Then when they get frustrated with being wrong, they just censor the entire discussion. Or if they don’t control the discussion sue you for hate speech against environmentalists.
Nothing good can come of this! lol

  10. Its just like the global warming wackos trying to silence the skeptics becuase their up to something radical the greens want to control our lives just like in a dictatorship THEY ARE THE WATER MELLONS GREEN ON THE OUTSIDE RED ON THE INSIDE

  11. You’d think that icebergs were something new, never seen before.
Aren’t most of the off-shore rigs equiped for disconnecting from the base platform because of iceberg tending to float past? Seems to me that I remember a show on Discovery Channel a few years back about how they pulled some rigs off because a berg or two were expected to pass too close.
These “first time in history” stories are a joke. Al Gore spouts that in all of human history (what’s that, about 100,000 years?) CO2 never rose above 300 ppm, now its at 385 ppm. The in xxx history bit is to make us curl up in the fetal position. Isn’t the world creeping up on 5 billion years old? Weren’t there times in the past when CO2 exceeded 3,000ppm? Didn’t the Titanic sink because it hit an iceberg?
