  1. a different bob – I think that Charlton Heston would be very flattered by that fitting picture you have painted in words:
‘The devil is in even deeper trouble now with Chuck Heston riding shotgun to God in heaven.’
Brought a smile to my lips and tears to well up in my eyes.

  2. Ringo,
You can have the gun so long as you promise to shoot yourself in the head with it.
And use 12 gauge buch shot or, if you’d prefer, deer slug.

  3. Warwick~ word is he committed suicide, so I am sure he is already quite familiar with the type of gun he prefers.
I still think Doc did it, myself.

  4. Those who beat their swords into plowshares will do the plowing for those who don’t.

  5. To hell with his acting career, he was just another actor that was trying to make some money doing the best thing he knew how.
His strength and enduring memory will be for the
principles he so earnestly fought for. This man walked the walk. From the support of the NRA to the civil rights movement, he didn’t just talk about it, he did it. I remember him joining MLK during one of his “freedom marches” in the south during the turbulent ’60’s. This man was an exemplification of a true American Patriot.
He will be sorely missed by those who value freedom amd liberty.

  6. Very inspiring speech – I think Charelton Heston was the most effective leader the NRA has had in my memory. He will be missed.
It’s very simple: freemen are armed and slaves are disarmed. I consider myself to be a freeman and I will never give up my guns. They might have to be buried for while if things go downhill in Canada but there is no way the statists are going to get their hands on them while I’m alive.
I’ve always wondered why some people are so upset by the idea that an armed populace is necessary to keep the government in check. I’m quite happy to limit my shooting to targets and coyotes as long as the government behaves itself. Government is very dangerous and needs to be limited by every means necessary.
Perhaps using the analogy of fire would be best here. Fire is very usefull but dangerous. If not kept rigidly confined it can spread and destroy anything in its path. My wood stove has safeguards that go beyond that mandated by building codes and I have fire extinguishers in easy reach by my wood stove, in my kitchen and in my vehicle. Leftists, using the government/fire analogy, are like children playing with matches in a woodpile. Government, if one looks at danger in terms of how many people it has killed, is orders of magnitude more dangerous than fire.

  7. A lot of talk here about leftards wanting to disarm us but, not all leftists are would-be gun-grabbers and not all gun-grabbers are leftists.
Audrey McLaughlin’s left-wing credentials are pretty solid but, when she was at the helm, the NDP came down solidly against Bill C-68. It was only when the lace curtain socialists, McDonough and Layton got their scummy hands on the tiller that what was once a party of farmers and industrial workers became an enemy of the people.
The decimation of the federal NDP in Saskatchewan owes much to the gun control doublecross. Lots of (mostly older) voters are still socialists but, thanks to C-68, they have no home.
In the rural area where I grew up, support for the CCF was almost a religion but, the very idea of licencing gun owners would have been unthinkable.

  8. Gunney99 – I’m very familiar with the historic right to bear arms. I was speaking about the US constitutional framing of the right. Various monarchs and other tyrants have attempted to “manipulate” that right. While the US right to bear has a strong English antecedent, the colonists found themselves at the mercy of Crown representatives who had decided that individual possession was becoming bothersome to allegiance to His Majesty in the lead up to 1776. Hence the very basis of the Second Amendment. This is the fundamental lesson of the Second Amendment – even though the historic antecedent may lie within one’s own family, it still may, in future time, be necessary to protect oneself from that same “family”.
