Following a little dip after supper hour, Ontario power demand rose from 7pm to 9 pm.

(h/t reader Stephen Jacks)
I’m not ashamed to admit it. I’m a little choked up.
(Yes, I noticed the “projection”. No dice, blackout boosters. The science is settled – any detected upward trend is a win in my column.)
Update – They love us in Singapore, too!
Well, those who count do, anyway.
More – Saskatoon Shines!
Plus – The numbers down under;
We watched at least 7 helicopters flying around the inner Brisbane skies. I sent a leftie friend of mine an sms at about 8:15pm asking her if she could hear them too – she was very perplexed as to why they were there until I explained it was the Earth Hour people filming the lights so that they could go home and watch their “success” on their plasma televisions.

Vanishing polar bears keep the lights on. LOL

it goes above and below projected all the time. So being a little above or a little below isnt a big deal.
As kate said up is up. It should have been flat or down for there to have been a major effect.
But remember this was PR and show with now real effect anyway. Furnaces, TV’s, Refrigerators were all allowed to be on and you would be in compliance.
As I said….all show, just like signing Kyoto.
ahhh, gotta love lefty logic.
Anon – …wanton disregard and active contempt for things that are important to others…
HAHAHAHA, I almost bust a gut on that one!!! Seriously, that was funny!
The left: bringing you repression of non-state allowed for your own good since 1918 (well, pick a date).
The left: we’re hurt because you don’t care!!
I am sorry, I’ll try to care even less about your views in the future, maybe you will grow out of it!

“It’s important to some people…so why shit all over that? Who cares if you don’t agree with them – is it necessary to ruin the efforts of others? Seriously, what kind of low-grade vindictive idiocy is that? Did someone take a dump all over someone’s Christian Easter holiday or something? Where does this come from?”
Communism was important to some people – but it was important to rain on that parade, wasn’t it. As more and more people are falling to the madness of crowds, it is necessary to take a stand and make a point, to bring them to their senses.
“Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall,” seemed pointless at the time but that little bit of truth, crumbled an empire.
Fer all you mathematical types out there, if one were to integrate the area under the green curve and the black projected curve, then one might say there was less usage. The abrupt slope changes at about 1600 and 1900 say that someone was likely adjusting their usage in unusual ways, so I guess you could say there was ‘awareness’ raised.
But, as you can clearly see the usage went up at 1600, so does this say that folks were simply doing what they normally do during the hour of doom, just doing so a little earlier? The awareness raised is one for politicians. The average person out there will adjust their life, but only a bit and only for a short time. Those pols who wish to keep their seat need to understand 60% reductions in our normal way of life are anathema. Now back to the game….
As usual, this stunt last night was fuelled by liberal guilt and all those good intentions to which we know where they lead…
I don’t feel ANY liberal guilt about my lifestyle, so why should I play along–‘same as a number of posters here.
I’m no liberal and why should I feel guilty?
I live in an apartment, ‘don’t have a cottage or a holiday house, my husband and I drive one small car between us, we haven’t flown anywhere in years, I do a laundry maybe once a week IN COLD WATER, we’re easy on our hydro ALL THE TIME…
So, Dr. Sukuki Bigfoot and all of your acolytes: LAY OFF. Slink back to your two mansions, first-class, of course, and leave the rest of us alone. You should feel guilty, so go do something about it yourself, instead of laying your guilt on us.
Stephen Taylor ‘outs’ the cbc,and others for NOT being Earth Hour followers!
OT,but heads up..cbc news Sunday going to cover HRC in second hr.
Let me get this straight. We were supposed to turn off our non-greenhouse gas generating hydroelectric powered lights so that we can make a symbollic gesture about climate change using cabon dioxide producing candles?
The greenies must be smoking wacky tabacky! (Sorry, that generates carbon dioxide as well!)
Insightful how the wack job, anon, compares earth hour to Christmas.
Essentially, it is saying, “You wreck my religious holiday and I’ll wreck yours.” And that’s exactly what it is. A religious cult, that I want no part of. I reject their doomsday faith and their sacred text, ‘An inconvenient truth,’ given by their prophet, Gore. I also find it offensive that governments and tax dollars are being used to promote the cult. In this they are attempting forced conversion into a National religion. Just like Islam.
Toronto had its share of cult members swaying in the unnaturally freezing cold down at Nathan Phillips square, while helicopters flew overhead to record the event. The live music was ‘acoustic’ despite the fact it was blared out of gigantic speakers through the P/A system. But its the thought that counts, not the reality. The local newscasters made sure there were many candles around them, despite the 10k’s shining in their faces and the cameras rolling. Utter hypocricy, doused in insanity.
Increasingly, I feel that mankind is going to have to formally separate into two tribes. Moonbat nation and the rest of us.
Liberals-socialists freezing in the dark? Let them alone. Where/when did we hear that before?
“Ironically, one Earth Hour promoter suggested sitting in the dark and burning candles instead of having the lights on. Alas, burning wax is a much less efficient method of producing light, and a process that produces more CO2, than using fluorescent (or even incandescent bulbs) that have been produced as a result of industrial progress, and market-based innovation.” (stephen taylor)
…-
Oh, the irony. “Dion, a former environment minister” = Liberal Citoyen Dion of the infamous Ad$cam Party, snuffs up the hydrocarbons. Or, were the candles organic, hydrocarbon free?
“Dion, a former environment minister, even delivered a speech by candlelight in Toronto to a gala dinner recognizing Greek independence.”
(TO Red Star)
Quoth the greenies: “Resistance is futile! You will be [urk!] … wheeze… leggo…!!!!
how much energy is used – that’s the mark of how advanced civilisation is!!!!!!!!!!!
As kate says, up is up. The actual usage should have lowered during the 8-9 time phase; instead, it dipped at 5, went up during the supper 6, dipper slightly at 7 but continued up, up, up. IF people had been obeying the orders to be sheep and shut off hydro use, it ought to have fallen dramatically. Instead, it went up. The ‘model’ of projected use isn’t relevant. What’s important is what actually happened.
manny – you seem to be suggesting that if a group of people have a similar conclusion, it means that their thoughts are ‘programmed-controlled’. Does this mean that if we, in the majority, agree that water is made up of hydrogen and oxygen that our conclusion has no validity; it’s just ‘thought-controlled’?
Did it ever occur to you that we reject Earth Hour because of its actual nature, i.e., it is specious, irrelevant and furthermore, actually harms human efforts to deal with both emissions and pollution? After all, people will simply say, ‘Well, I’ve done my bit’ after turning off their lights for one hour. And do nothing further about anything; they’ll leave that up to The Government – which is supposed to do everything.
Anonymous – with regard to your ‘wanton disregard and active contempt’ for things that are important to others. Heck, what about your wanton disregard and active contempt’ for the importance of rejecting AGW and summer-camp groupie sing-alongs like Earth Hour….
I messed with my neighbors by turning off most of the lights but ran the dishwasher and dryer!
I just read where the Goreacle is coming to Trawna to teach a enviro course to us deniers. Two MP’s have signed on to be brainwashed some more. M Belanger is one. So watch it, you will be assimilated.
http://www.thestar.com/SpecialSections/EarthHour/article/407295
The PM kept the lights on, three cheers for PM Harper!
Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!
Actually, george, you are exactly right. The ratio of energy processing does correlate with the complexity of a biological organism. And a society.
A more complex organism uses, processes more energy than a simple one! The different between a one-celled organism..and an elephant. Same with societies.
Low energy societies, like hunting and gathering, can only support a small population. About thirty people in a group. When mankind began to increase their technological capacity to process more energy, well..that society could support more people. That also meant a more complex social organization and so on.
So, you are right. The greater the technological advances, the greater the capacity for energy processing..and the higher the capacity to support a population in a healthy style.
From an Australian blog:
“Now we have this image of darkness, and consciousness, going around the world,” he said. “It is a message of hope and optimism … we, the citizens of the world, are prepared to take action and we want to defeat climate change.”
Or this line from the story: “There was darkness — and we saw it was good.”
Once again facts and reason is being snuffed out by feelings. Another dark ages, brought about by the new religious cult, AGW.
But wait, I thought overpopulation was the core problem? There are just too many people. Wouldn’t a global no-sex day be a far more effective demonstration of earthiness? (Certain special groups get a pass, but if they want to join in an expression of solidarity, hey, no problem).
The funny part is that for coal generated electricity, shutting off the lights in the house for an hour reduces CO2 by ZERO. The turbines have less strain on them but they still turn at the same spead which requires virtually the same amount of steam. Not to mention which you don’t just turn off a coal fire for an hour then restart it and expect to have the generating capacity on line that you will need to meet the demand of everyone turning on their lights.
I spent last night on East Hastings in the heart of NDP / Green country. Blazing bright lights everywhere.
“Did someone take a dump all over someone’s Christian Easter holiday or something?”
I wouldn’t have made that comparison, but thanks for bringing it up. Matter of fact, most lefties do spend a lot of time crapping on Christian traditions. Before it was just harmless fun to irritate the greenies; now i’m gettin’ that healthy glow of self-righteous anger…and I’m not even that religous.
ET said “A more complex organism uses, processes more energy than a simple one! The different between a one-celled organism..and an elephant.”
Skinny people are simpletons?
tenebris, hah, hah. Your beanstick figure isn’t an indictor of your lack of complexity. It might be due to your anorexia but that’s a different story.[Or is it?] It’s the number of different cells and their organization that’s the basis of complexity.
So, a fat person and a thin person are equal in complexity of organization. Just because there’s more same-cells in the Fat Man doesn’t increase the complexity of organization.
irwin daisy – environmentalism is indeed a type of religious experience, based only on faith, rejection of facts and reason, and a yearning for collective togetherness. [The opposite of Benedict’s outline of true religion, by the way.]
So “anon” admits environmentalism IS a religion. Just what we suspected all along. Poor misguided lost soul.
By the way, nearly everyone in my lovely Fraser Valley neighborhood had their lights ON last night at eight.
I would gain a little respect for gorazuki if they reduced their carbon foot print down to my level, then I would consider reducing mine even further, till then, screw off.
So, anon has come up with another excuse to s**t on Christians, I mean Jesus freaks. So what.
Anon, perhaps we could have an Inquisition to deal with those climate heretics who didn’t follow the fatwa.
In anon’s world, if he/she feels something is important we must comply; otherwise he/she gets to go after what others feel is important.
You do what you want, I’ll do what I want, anon. Welcome to free society. Now go back to sleep in the dark.
manny – you seem to be suggesting that if a group of people have a similar conclusion, it means that their thoughts are programmed-controlled’.-ET
No, I’m suggesting that if Mistress Kate says jump, the lickspittle small dead minds say how high. You just happen to be on the other side of the same group-think coin.
Kathy, you belong in marketing! I hear the Chinese government is hiring Anglophones.

Yes, but you’ll be able to buy “sex credits” to offset your urges.
Rumour has it that Charlie Sheen, Madonna and Eliot Spitzer are already starting up a “sex credit” exchange.
Actually, manny, “group think” is only on the side of those who, you know, actually think.
Your side is irrational, illogical and emotional. No thinking. No questioning. Just jump off the cliff while hugging (I wish). Or, in this case, turning off the lights for an hour, in order to feel less guilty.
In fact, I think the right should hijack your odd little guilt hour and retitle it – ‘leftard hour’, or maybe ‘moonbat hour’. Perhaps next year I’ll come up with an alternative logo to pass around the blogs.
Daisy, where did you get the idea that I’m on a side? Earth hour is as idiotic as Red Fridays. But where the side you detest is silly in an absurd, quixotic sort of way, yours is conformist in an ugly, nasty sort of way.
ID: “Perhaps next year I’ll come up with an alternative logo to pass around the blogs.”
Now that would be devastating.
Skip, I’m sorry you’re having trouble with this.
“your wanton disregard and active contempt for things that are important to others has given me a veritable license to sh*t all over the Christmas season for about a dozen diehard Jesus freaks. I look forward to making the birth of the baby Jesus miserable”
Is it possible you are truly this stupid? Or are you simply trolling, as you’ve done elsewhere on this site? If it’s the latter, I apologize to the SDA readers for trying to explain a bit of common sense here; if it’s the former, then at least you’ve an excuse.
The celebrations of Christmas and Easter have no effect on you, personally, unless you benefit from working in the retail industry and the increase in resulting sales.
However, as we are seeing, the concerted effort by the AGW crowd is pushing for changes in YOUR life: changing from incandescent lights to mercury-laden fluorescent bulbs, the attempted hijacking of your disposable income with 3rd world cash laundering schemes such as kyoto, unwarrented and useless increases in fuel and energy costs, the state control of your home’s thermostat (California).
Do you understand now, anon, why conservatives take offense at this rank pile of eco-nonsense? We are trying to get as many people as possible to consider the possibility that AGW is nothing more than the most elaborate fraud perpetrated in history, and that the huge sucking sound is that of everyone’s disposable income being siphoned to pay for it. As Mark Steyn said, “Think of Adscam as a National Film Board Short, and Kyoto as ‘Waterworld’ “.
Now, anon, you can either start thinking critically about what you’re being force-fed from the media and Left, or continue to revel in brain-dead mob thinking and turn out another light (better yet, why not your PC?). Either way, Gaia and the climate won’t change a whit.

First off, Earth Hour was 7pm-8pm not 7pm-9pm.
Secondly, if this is the chart you’re using to prove your point:
http://www.theimo.com/imoweb/siteShared/demand_price.asp?sid=ic
The points for the actual energy use is for the average energy use in an hour. The rise in energy use between 7p,-8pm doesn’t show that energy use increased during that period, but that compared to 7pm-7:59pm there was more energy use during 8pm to 8:59pm. They’re just using lines to join up the different points on the graph. This explains the dip after 18hr (6pm) to 19hr (7pm). People didnt slowly decrease their energy use leading up to Earth Hour (7p,m-8pm), but that there was less energy used at 7pm-7:59pm than at 6pm to 6:59pm.
As a liberal, I’m profoundly disappointed in my fellow latte sipping dirty hippy leftard moonbats To think, all we had to do was promote an international Don’t Shoot Yourself in the Head Day…
…now that’s just poor planning on our part, I have to say.
SharonApple, are you saying that earth hour was an hour in length? Is that what you’re saying?
That’s exactly the kind of subtlety that will get you into hot water around these here parts.
Has anyone aside from me considered the possibility that this post was entirely tongue-in-cheek? Though I disagree with most of Kate’s positions, I don’t see her as especially dim.
JR:
I see no harm in a GW advocate shooting themselves in the head.
They’d probably miss. just like they keep missing the point that science has never been settled.
Tongue-in-cheek? I doubt it. I do think, however, that Mistress Kate does take perverse delight in watching her monkeys dance when she grinds her organ.
oooohhhhh mannnyyy —lickspittle small dead minds — thank you very much and have a nice day! BWWWAHAHAHAAA!!!!
Manny, maybe you’re right, but there are two possibilities; a person either understands the graph or does not. I suppose I have no way of knowing whether I’m being overly generous.
Anyway, the thought of maybe 11 or 12 people across the country actually making an effort to use more energy than usual between 8 and 9pm on Saturday takes me straight back to my daughter’s most contrary period, between the ages of 2 and 3 or so. People like this have family members, in-laws, and friends who are embarrassed by them.
Bye for now.
Mr. Diacritics at 10:07:
Not a Canadian example, but you might find it embarrassing if a group of 40ish businessmen dressed up in native garb and threw tea in the bay, just cause they didn’t like taxes. What good would that do?
somethingass…But we do see you as extremely dim.
