  1. Since the global warming alarmists are planning a world-wide demonstration on March 29 to call attention to global warming (like anyone is unaware) I would like to suggest a counter-demonstration.
I suggest, as a protest against global warming lunacy, that all those concerned about increasing government actions against “climate change” put all their lights on for one hour at the same time, starting at 8 PM, March 29. Indoor lights, outdoor lights, even Christmas lights if they’re still up.
What do you think Kate? Would you consider making a big promotion of this on your blog?

  2. I wouldn’t participate in that dirtman…it would cost me extra on my hydro bill. And we already ‘cut back’ enough.
Not very altruistic I know, but my greatest motivation for reducing, reusing and recycling is the money factor.
The composting saves me bucks on fertiliser too.

  3. Dirtman,
    Those are my motivations too.
Give me a car that runs on batteries or compessed air, like the taxis in paris. . .
A wood stove that keeps my hydro bill to $20 a month.
Let me invest in lithium enterprise for capital gains and let me vote for clean Coal-gen retrofits; a promising Canadian manufacturing and employment opportunity.
Global warming is for those so full of themselves they will never do anything useful.
Proof? Dr. Fruitfly and AliGoracle, for example. = TG

  4. dirtman – I’m not participating in any groupism. Certainly I’m not turning off my lights because some group tells me to. Nor will I turn them on. I’m the one in charge of my use of various energy sources.

  5. Charles…”solved cheap energy…”
I have some magic beans for sale.
    Sigh.

  6. C’mon kids, get watching CPAC.Goldhawk asking about media ‘spin’ and who do you trust?? Susan Riley on (Harper-hater)Git yer e-mails,ph.calls in..time to trash the cbc!

  7. Climatologist taking `perverse’ pleasure in brutal winter
Posted on 09 March 2008 by Jack(‘s Newswatch)
    Note: Some background…
“Environment Canadas (a government department) senior climatologist, David Phillips is a global warming skeptic. Though many of his colleagues claim that mans warming of the planet leads to more destructive weather, Phillips says there is no proof of such a link. “The point Ive argued about with my colleagues is all the weather weve seen in recent history cant be blamed on global warming,” said Phillips. “There is no scientific evidence to suggest that the ice storm in Ontario last year or the Red River flood in Manitoba were direct results of what were doing to the atmosphere.”
Phillips doesnt discount the possibility that mans influence on the atmosphere may lead to more extreme weather, but the evidence doesnt show it. Phillips blames much of the erroneous perception on the advent of “storm porn,” the medias overreaction to natural disasters. The perception of more extreme weather, says Phillips, may have more to do with increasing media coverage than actual changes.
Phillips argues that population growth is blame for perceived increases in natural disasters. “Weathers doing a bigger number of people,” says Phillips. “That doesnt make the weather more extreme. Its just that were bigger targets now. Were getting in the way of the weather” (The Edmonton Sun, November 14, 1999).”

  8. The show “Da Vinci’s Inquest” is on local US TV – This is one show I want to like. Unfortunately, the description of the episode reads, in part: “…investigation goes nowhere.”
It stuck me, this points out the difference between American and Canadian psyches via crime-drama action TV shows!
Doesn’t this embody the Canadian Spirit: endless amounts of angst due to politically correct concerns, compulsive understatement, and indecisive micro-management due to overbearing authority?
    Just a thought.

  9. I watched a bit of Question Period today– I don’t usually, but I was at the gym and that was what was on. — If there was ever anything to inspire me NEVER to choose to turn this program on at home today’s episode was it. I felt it was a bit of end-to-end Conservative bashing. It’s fine to criticize Conservatives, but to go on — and on and on and on — about items that have already passed their best-before date is a bit much. I thought the the interview regarding the Cadman issue was pathetic, primarily because — there is nothing new here. It was a rehash of last week’s news. It uninteresting and stale to just keep on about things (as Tabor did) when there is no new information. What exactly is the point? Well, I guess Conservative bashing is the point — I understand — and accept — that this is an item that Liberals would latch on to and not let go, but media should be a bit more saavy about what kinds of things are likely to catch the interest of the general public. (Unfortunately, this might take a bit of effort on the journalists’ part.) Endless repetition of non-events is not going to do it. They’ve lost me.

  10. LindaL,
Yes, saw that also and it was just as you say. Maybe if we invite alJazeera into our TV mix, they could do a more balanced job of it. /sarc = TG
