  1. Muslim is not a smear, it is the polite way of referring to a follower of Islam.
    Moslem is a smear.
Islamofacist is a smear. (even if true)

  2. Ummmmmm….maybe because deep down this leftard realizes that Muslim = religion of death, and he doesn’t what his “hero” “smeared” with such a true, factual title,as Obama is all about the fluffy Utopia awaitng Ameicuns ifun they just elect him preezident? Naw….he’s just a leftard twit trying to play the race card without saying it.

  3. “But why does [Minnesota Democrat] Ellison think calling someone a Muslim is a “smear”?”
Because of the tireless efforts here on SDA to make it so.

  4. It’s a valid point. And along the same lines, Obama has defended the donning of Islamic garb in the name of respect of local customs. So why does he not respect local and national customs in the US by placing his hand over his heart during the playing of the national anthem?
The Leftards have so many double standards, it boggles the mind.

  5. Because of the tireless efforts here on SDA to make it so.
good to hear that SDA controls the world instead George Bush. I knew he would have to give it up soon.

  6. Oy vey! Now this is a smear:
Oven-Roasted Chicken with Garlic Rosemary Smear Ingredients10 Heads of roasted garlic 1 Onion,; quartered
    2 tb Chopped rosemary Essence
Salt and white pepper 1 c Dark chicken stock
6 tb Olive oil,; in all 2 tb Chopped chives
1 Whole chicken,; about 3 2 tb Brunoise red peppers
    8 Whole new potatoes,;
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Place the roasted garlic and rosemary in a food processor with a metal blade. Puree until smooth. Add 4 tablespoons olive and puree into a paste. Season with salt and pepper. Season the entire chicken, potatoes, and onions with salt and pepper. Stuff the potatoes and onions in the cavity of the chicken. Tie the chicken with butchers twine, for overall cooking and closing the cavity. Rub the entire chicken with the garlic smear, except for 1 tablespoon, and place in a shallow roasting pan. Roast the chicken for about 45-50 minutes or until the juices run clear. Remove the chicken from the pan and place the pan on the stove. Deglaze the pan with the chicken stock and remaining garlic smear. Season with salt and pepper. Remove the butchers twine. Place the potatoes and onions in the center of the platter. Carve the chicken into 8 pieces. Lay the chicken around the potatoes. Spoon the sauce over the chicken and potatoes. Garnish with chives and peppers.

  7. Muslim/Moslem?
I don’t think either form is a smear, per se. As far as the variant spellings go, that’s all they are: variant spellings of a word that originated in a language that uses a different alphabet. Either variant can be considered as an accurate, non-judgmental descriptor for a follower of Islam.
Now, if one were to call them Mohammedans, THAT is regarded by the M*sl*ms as a smear, because they consider it to imply that they worship Mohammed, which is a no-no in Islam. He was the “perfect Man” alright, and to be followed, and revered, and emulated, alright, but WORSHIP? No, don’t go there.
Somewhat as an aside, have you noticed that a great many names have undergone changes in spelling as a result of the political correctness movement? Peking has become Beijing, for one. Bombay has become Mumbai, for another. Moslem has become Muslim, and don’t get me started on all the names for Indian tribes and villages that have acquired new, (and completely unpronounceable) spellings. It is all part of the plan, which is to denigrate and diminish the scholarship of Dead White Males. Use of the P.C. spelling is somehow supposed to give the user some sort of power or authority over the fossils who cling to the D.W.M. version. Those of us on the right side of the aisle should simply refuse to play that game, and go on using the traditional forms of the words.

  8. Didn’t Ellison ask to be sworn in on a Koran? He made a big deal out of being the first Muslim Congressdude, so I suppose he smeared himself.

  9. Isn’t Ellison himself a muslim, and didn’t he keep that fact sort of a secret from the voters. Didn’t he rufuse to be sworn in on a Bible.
Why is calling someone what they are a smear.
Why is using Obama’s middle name a smear.
Is he ashamed of his name. You can be sure his middle name is getting him lots of support in muslim countries.
If elected would he bring peace to the ME or turn a blind eye to the suicide bombings and beheadings.

  10. For the first time in quite a while, I decided to follow the link on this post to see what was there, and then followed the links at Instapundit as well. Just for a lark.
Very educational, as it turns out.
One of the Instapundit links was to the blog of a fellow named Ali Eteraz, who describes himself as a full-time writer, ex-lawyer, who (during law school) worked on litigation on behalf of victims of torture at Abu Ghraib. And an Obama supporter. And a contributor to the Huffington blog. Etc. (Seems there’s a lot of that sort of thing going on …..)
His post (on the theme that Muslim is not a smear) was reasonable enough in tone, although I didn’t read the whole thing. But one thing he wrote early on caused me to do a double take. And then he repeated it, so it wasn’t an error.
We are all familiar with the notion of hyphenated nationality. It’s not sufficient, indeed it’s often unacceptable, to be simply a Canadian or an American. Those must be qualified: Italian-hyphen-Canadian, Polish-hyphen-American, Jewish-hyphen-Canadian, or (the one I detest most) African-hyphen-American.
Repulsive, but at least consistent in form. The prefix modifies the suffix. An Italian-Canadian is a Canadian – who happens to have Italian lineage.
But not with Eteraz. To him, the proper term is “American-Muslim”, not “Muslim-American”. As I say, he wrote that repeatedly, including one instance where he used the terms “American-Muslim” and “Jewish-American” in the same sentence.
All of which seems to clarify his primary loyalty. He is not an American who happens to be a Muslim – he’s a Muslim who just happens to be living in the US.
And this from someone who claims to be, and certainly appears from the tone of his writings to be, one of those millions of “moderate” Muslims we keep hearing about.
Is this a case of the mask slipping just a bit? Or a case of he doesn’t care if you see what’s behind?
    As I say, very educational.

  11. “Cal, why not a pork dish? or add some ham or bacon to the recipe?”
That’s neither kosher nor halal but I love to put some pork on my fork.

  12. Easter in two weeks. time for a fine ham without kosher salt but a smear of French mustard straight from Alberta.
do we have to put up with two more weeks of the French Ham Borat Dion and his smear tactics before easter or does the eastern bunny run back into the hallways.

  13. Its all about context. Calling someone a liberal here is akin to a smear, whereas doing so on a liberal blog would not make it a smear. Calling someone an evangelical republican would be a smear there. But not here.
Hardly rocket science, but I m glad Kate is revealing her intellectual prowess.
You folk have worked hard to turn some words into smears on this site. And it works. Well done.
Reminds me of the true story about an English sports captain touring Australia. Someone called him a ‘bastard’ on the field. The englishmen, believing himself to be a gentleman, went to the coach of Australian side after the match and complained about being called a bastard.
The coach listened quietly, then turned to his assembled players and said “which one of you bastards called this bastard a bastard”. In Australia, the word didnt have the same negative connotations it did for the englishman.

  14. And the award for utter stupidity goes to …. gordinkneehill.
“Somewhat as an aside, have you noticed that a great many names have undergone changes in spelling as a result of the political correctness movement?”
    Political Correctness!!!???!?!?!
“Peking has become Beijing, for one. Bombay has become Mumbai, for another.”
Easy there buddy. Hold your horses. Beijing was always Beijing. Britishers called it Peking because they couldnt pronounce Beijing. That doesnt mean it wasnt Beijing to begin with. Contrary to your beliefs, Beijing pre-existed its English name. Why should the Chinese stop calling Beijing, Beijing, just because some guys showed up and called it Peking.
As for Bombay, the entire debate that surrouned it was the opposite of political correctness. It was done by some kind of whacko conservative traditionalists who wanted to pick up hindu votes by reverting the name to something that had to do with some fishing village temple. Really quite strange, but not driven by political correctness. In fact Bombayites still pointedly call it Bombay.
“Moslem has become Muslim, and don’t get me started on all the names for Indian tribes and villages that have acquired new, (and completely unpronounceable) spellings.”
Moslem is not a smear. Muslim is closer to the real pronounciation that muslim. And I suspect the Indian tribes, and whichever language they speak, predate white folk on the continent.
“It is all part of the plan, which is to denigrate and diminish the scholarship of Dead White Males. Unless you are a follower of Nietszche of “God is dead” fame, I dont think your argument carries any credence. Dead White Males, or Alive White Males, were not the first people on this planet. All the examples you have given are those of White people mispronouncing whites. And theres nothing wrong with mispronouncing words. Everyone does it.
I suspect you would be the first to rise up against chinese accent mangled pronounciations of Calgary.
You can stay on the right side of the aisle. Dont know how much good it will do you if you dismiss accuracy as a product of political correctness. Calling Beijing Beijing does not give anyone power over anything. Thats just the way its meant to be pronounced.

  16. Ohhhhhhh. Lookeee. sput has found the copy and paste thingie AND he also taught his one brain cell how to hit post twice. You going rightie on us? Or is it that the colour in your neighbourhood is going right of centre?

  17. The server either at this end or at your end stalled.
“You going rightie on us? Or is it that the colour in your neighbourhood is going right of centre?”
Is that english? Or is it a selection of english words put together without any logic or coherence?

  18. Honestly I could careless what Muslims find offensive, the list of supposed slights and offenses is to long and it appears fluid and changs daily. There are not enough hours in the day to study what Muslims find offensive, thankfully CAIR stays on top of that issue.
Look at Europe, having discussions with Muslim groups begging them not to become violent over a film they haven’t seen yet. Sorry but one can’t bargain with the devil.

  19. Calling Obama a Muslim was not a smear because it was a DemocRat what done it. Because it was a Clintonite, that’s ok.
If a Republican did it, THAT would be a smear.

  20. In other news, a brave Muslim freedom fighter shot up a seminary full of Zionists in Jerusalem, nipping their eeeevile careers in the bud. He managed to kill 8 of them, some as young as 15, in a great victory for Islam before being brutally shot by eeeevile armed civilians and about a thousand eeeeeeeevlie IDF storm troopers.
Wait, what was I saying about that smear thing…?

  21. So I guess the people of Ohio should feel really smeared after their democratic leader candidates lied to them about NAFTA. After all the lowly Canadians have took all their jobs and now they have run out of EI benefit’s and welfare is not paying as much.
Cal2; you should send them this recipe, southerners are supposed to like chicken. Oh sorry, I just smeared them. I do apologize to them that I have smeared with a recommended chicken recipe.
Kate; congrats on reaching 8 million. I bet a million of hits were just to smear the most precious Dion and the liberal demographic about being Bastards, SOBs, Morons and Leftards. So on behalf of the SDA followers, that have smeared all of you “the ones with skin so thin”, your automatic defense is to cry I HAVE BEEN SMEARED BY AN HONEST HARD WORKING PERSON WHOM HAVE PAYED TAXES TO UPHOLD THE COUNTRIES VALUES, SO I CAN BE PROTECTED AND TAKE YOU TO COURT AND HAVE MY SMEAR UNSMEARED, THANK YOU FOR LETTING US HELP YOU OUT. Merle Underwood.

  22. Its called a vicious cycle, Phantom. The deathtoll when this despicable act was committed was Israel 3, Palestine 120~.
If you were an Arab, what would you do? Sit quietly and watch? Is it really a surprise that one guy with a gun cracked and went berserk?
If you were an Israeli what would you do? Sit quietly and watch? Is it any wonder that Israel responds the way it does?
    Its not going to end.

  24. Circle, given that this kind of thing happens in Canada, Germany, Switzerland and Australia, I think there’s a good possibility it isn’t going to end unless and until people change their ideas about self defense. I note this goblin attacked probably the most under-armed target in Jerusalem and still got nailed by somebody who ran their from their house next door. It would have been much worse in Canaduh, I assure you.
If I were an Israeli I’d be used to this crap. The Palestinians do this stuff weekly. They launch missiles at towns without aiming them.
The death toll of which you speak is 3 Israeli soldiers, 120 Palestinian missile launchers and ammo carriers. Plus any “human shields”, aka women and kids they kept next to the launch sites to hide behind because they have the intestinal fortitude of a daffodil.
If I were an Arab citizen of Israel, I’d be a member of the IDF, because I’m not a racist or a religious fanatic. Or a Leftist incapable of telling good from evil, for that matter.
It seems our views on the issue diverge.

  25. If calling someone a Muslim has become a smear it can only be blamed on the followers of the faith or offshoots of it, who made it so.
It’s very telling he feels that way.

  26. cal2 at March 6, 2008 11:54 PM nailed it, “good to hear that SDA controls the world instead George Bush.”
This was simply a case of taking at face value what I. Sanderson wrote at March 6, 2008 11:00 PM, and what the ever thoughtless sput echoed at March 7, 2008 5:09 AM.
As expected, left-wing wackos seldom understand what is written on SDA, if they bother to read it. They usually put both feet in their mouths and than place thier heads up thier rectums, and ‘respond’ with FEELING.
SDA RULES; love it or leave it I. Sanderson and sput!

  27. The title of this post was better than the whole article…
What IS a term like “cowboy diplomacy” supposed to mean anyway?
