Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

TO Red Star/Walkom surrender: Citoyen Dion unfit to govern.
Liberals/Citoyen Dion are not fit to govern.
We told you.
…-
Liberal `compromise’ is really a retreat to Harper’s position
“On Afghanistan, the Liberals are in full retreat. Party leader Stéphane Dion presents his solution to the Kandahar quandary as a compromise. It is not. In effect, the country’s major opposition party has signalled that in all major respects it now supports Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s handling of the war.
While designed to finesse the tricky Afghan issue, this remarkable about-face may simply convince voters that Dion and his band of confused MPs aren’t yet fit to govern.”
“By signing on to Harper’s policy under the guise of statesmanship, the Liberals are hoping they will so confuse the public that no one will notice that they have capitulated.”

maz2, you beat me to it. How about them Danes!!! Do they have balls or what!!! Something is wrong in the state of Denmark and it ain’t the Danes.
Danish Papers Reprint Prophet Mohammed cartoon
“Newspapers in Denmark Wednesday reprinted the controversial cartoon of the
Prophet Mohammed that sparked worldwide protests two years ago.
The cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed provoked widespread outrage in the Muslim world
two years ago.
The move came one day after Danish authorities arrested three people who allegedly were plotting a “terror-related assassination” of Kurt Westergaard, one of the cartoonist behind the drawings.”

LOL, Kate. I thought the link was going to be to a link to a very-made-up Ontario ‘Black History Month’ article.
In the National Post Issues and Ideas section, Christopher Hitchens takes off on Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury: “This sheep-faced cleric casually throws away the work of centuries of civilization”.
So true. Canadians don’t seem to realize how open we are to allowing Sharia through our Charter and Multiculturalism. It’s a perfect set-up to allow what amounts to abuse of women in our civilized society.
One has to love the dipper/moonbat revisionism when it comes to “blue helmet” diplomacy.
Let me state, for the record, that my family has a few years experience wearing that blue bucket.
So let’s examine this great “peacekeeping” myth that most jerk offs on the left like to invoke.
Golan – still a mess
Cyprus – is there really peace there?
Somalia – please
Rwanda – good job boys!
Congo – ya, let’s go there for a family vacation
Balkans – hmmm, I think they needed more firepower
I could go on, but why bother. One cannot keep the peace, if there is no peace to keep. And, sorry to say it leftards, the only language that these tinpots, mad mullahs and commies understand is brute force achieved by superior firepower!

You have to wonder if the Alberta Human Rights Commission didn’t push the Muslim Imam to drop his complaint against Ezra Levant. I could see them telling the Imam that they were on the verge of ruling against him and in favor of Levant. With the Danish law authorities thwarting a murder plot by muslim extremists against the cartoon artist it sure would put the AHRC in an awkward position if they decided to rule against Levant. As if they weren’t on the defensive already in this whole fiasco.
This HRC by the Imam had already blown up to a much bigger issue when Levant decided to go toe-to-toe with the commission. I would not be surprised in the least to see the same outcome with the CHRC complaint against Mark Steyn. That would be the right thing to do. In a way though, it is too bad that Levant’s case didn’t come to a decision. It would have been useful to have the Commission rule against the Imam so that some sort of precendence could be set for allowing that kind of free speech. Leaving the situation the way it is invites this same kind of thing to be repeated all over again.
Here we have a situation where had all of these issues been dealt with in a Muslim country, well, Levant and Steyn would have long ago been swinging on the end of a rope. That is providing they had a neck left to swing from. It appears that some Muslim extremists decided that this kind of justice should happen in Denmark. Sure hope that there are no Islamofacists planning the same treatment for Levant or Steyn here in Canada.
Now Levant is saying he is going after the Imam to recover tens of thousands of dollars spent defending himself from this bogus complaint. Go get ’em Ezra.

Did anyone see last nites Duffy Interview with Ignatieff & the Clip of Layton reading off a quote of Pearsons.
Layton lives in a dream world, I was no fan of Pearson but quoting from him! Give me a break, Pearson at least had some balls.
“One cannot keep the peace, if there is no peace to keep.” I totally agree with that, kingstonlad. I’ve never been a strong supporter of peacekeeping – at least, peacekeeping in conflict zones. Never has made much sense, on practical side. Oh, and yes kingstonlad, I’m a leftie.
I’m of the opinion that to deal with conflict zones, you need the hardest, toughest, meanest, most heavily armed soldiers you can find. We had ’em, of course, until the Libs dibanded the Airborne Regiment – a horrific mistake, imo.
I’m on the fence regarding Afghanistan: I think the mission is right, but the problem comes, as it always does when dealing with terrorist and non-state-aligned insurgents, that they’re actually quite hard to wipe out -thus making a long-term stay extremely costly, from a human, financial and moral standpoint. How long is enough? How long is too long? How do we measure success? Etc. I’m not against the mission, but these are questions no one can seriously answer to my satisfaction, and until they do, I find it difficult to hand our leaders a blank cheque on the mission.
Oh yeah, Harper promised to bring back the Airborne Regiment. What’s going on with that? Has he announced anything?

A fact/a lesson on low taxes that will be lost on most liberals; 20,000 Americans a day relocated to a lower income tax State last year!
from the Wall Street Journal,
States of Opportunity
February 12, 2008; Page A16
An old adage says high taxes don’t redistribute income, they redistribute people[…]
[…]A record eight million Americans — some 20,000 people every day — relocated to another state last year.
[…]But one reason to conclude that taxes are also a motivator is because the eight states without an income tax are stealing talent from other states.
[…]Politicians who think taxes don’t matter might want to explain the Dakotas. North Dakota ranked second worst in out-migration last year, while South Dakota ranked in the top 10 as a destination. The two are similar in most regards, with one large difference: North Dakota has an income tax and South Dakota doesn’t.
[…]Meanwhile, next door, Nevada was second among the states in new families — and a big percentage of the new arrivals are Californians. Nevada has no income tax. High income Californians can buy a house in Las Vegas for the amount of money they save in three or four years by not paying California income taxes
[…]For the exception that proves the tax rule, we should also mention Vermont, a high-tax state with a big net influx last year. Maybe these folks like the Ben & Jerry’s lifestyle,
[…]Our friends on the left say Americans are willing to pay more taxes to get better government services, but their migration patterns reveal the opposite. Governors would be wise to heed these interstate migration trends as they try to cope with what may be one of the worst years in recent memory for state finances.
The people who tend to be the most mobile in American society are the educated and motivated — in other words, the taxpaying class. Tax them too much, and you’ll soon find they aren’t there to tax at all.
“This sheep-faced cleric casually throws away the work of centuries of civilization”.
Good quote. There are a depressing number of leftist people who seem to think these are new ideas we should try, maybe so we can be “progressive”. They’re not. They’ve been around for centuries and the west rejected them and fought against them.

The next big media scare?
http://www.2038bug.com/
I wonder if the HRC made a deal with Soharwardy to get him to withdraw the complaint against Ezra. The HRC were trapped – because of the publicity that Ezra had created. More Canadians knew about the violation of our freedom of speech, in Section 13.1 of the HRAct, more knew about the aberrations of justice within the HR process, more Canadians knew about the hapless victims of the HRC.
The HRC, if they made a decision, would have had to conclude in favour of Soharwardy. Otherwise, since they’ve found in favour of the CJC cases (Richard Warman) in every case, they’d be accused of bias against Muslims.
However, the basic nature of the HRC as a violation of our freedoms had been exposed. The publicity had been widespread; it started in the blogs but spread to the main media, with interviews on CNN, with interviews and/or debates in various TV shows (TV Ontario, Michael Coren, Mike Duffy). Opinion columns and editorials in the major newspapers. A private member’s bill in the House to remove that Section 13.1
The HRC were trapped. If they found in favour of the Muslim group, which they had to because of their past history of finding in favour of the CJewish Congress – they’d be exposed even more as violators of our freedom. They might even be out of a safe, pensioned, benefitted bureaucratic job.
So- they had to persuade Soharwardy to drop the case. I wonder how they did this?
The rhetoric used by Soharwardy in his public announcement that he was dropping the case is pure HRC bureaucratic talk; it’s not his voice.
“I believe Canadian society is mature enough not to absorb the messages that the cartoons sent. Only a very small fraction of Canadian media decided to publish those cartoons.”
That’s not Soharwardy’s voice; that’s bureaucratic talk. After all, wasn’t our society mature enough two years ago when he launched the complaint?
But, today, take a look at Ezra Levant’s site; he says things are not quite so simple. He says that the Edmonton Muslim Assoc’s complaint still exists; it hasn’t been removed.
Ezra says that Soharwardy dropped the suit because he, Soharwardy, was being publicly exposed as himself a bigot; that women attending his mosque were filing HR complaints against him, and he doesn’t like the publicity.
Ezra says that Soharwardy can’t get away with his two years of harassing Levant; that he can’t claim to have suddenly ‘seen the light’. Ezra is going to file an ‘abuse of process’ against Soharwardy. Good. Great. Excellent. He writes:
“My aim is to file an abuse of process claim in the Court of Queen’s Bench within the month. Whether or not I sue the commission itself, and its inquisitor Shirlene McGovern, is something I haven’t discussed yet with my lawyers.
When the chief complainant in a two-year censorship exercise admits the whole thing was improper, an abuse of process suit is not just about recouping my losses. It’s about holding a little fascist, and the government agency he hijacked, to account, and having grown-ups — that is, real judges in real courts — tell them that what they’ve been doing is morally and legally wrong.”
Excellent. Thank god we’ve got Ezra to fight the HRCs. Their long decades of harassment against people who couldn’t afford to fight back and who didn’t have the legal smarts to know that the whole thing was a violation of their rights – is being exposed.
William,
That is a great article by Tim Ball re; David Suzuki.

(Via CSP) Reuel Marc Gerecht, A New Middle East, After All
George W. Bush staked his presidency on his response to 9/11: on the proposition that the United States had to defeat the virulent forces loose in the Muslim world directly and militarily. In his last State of the Union address, delivered shortly after his first and only grand tour of the Middle East, Bush reaffirmed his intention to continue the fight everywhere he has committed American arms. It is way too soon to give the president a final grade, and it is surely tempting to flunk him, given the high-wire act the country has endured in Iraq. The denizens of the Middle East, however, will remember Bush as the most momentous American leader since an angry Thomas Jefferson sent men-of-war in pursuit of the Barbary pirates. His successor will not be able to walk away from what he has wrought. Let us consider the issues one by one…
There are regiments in Canada that are parachute capable , without officially having the politically charged moniker of ‘airborne regiment’
I for one would love to see a regiment raised dedicated to that task as a rapid reaction force, Canada’s hammer that they can drop anywhere, anytime, at a moments notice..
I believe there is one in the works, that has as its cadre core many members of JTF-2, though this article also mentions a marine commando unit

In a stunning turn of events, a high-level Muslim military aide blamed for costing an intelligence contractor his job will step down from his own Pentagon post, WND has learned.
Meanwhile, his rival, Maj. Stephen Coughlin, a leading authority on Islamic war doctrine, may stay in the Pentagon, moving from the office of the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to the office of the secretary of defense.

All in all, a pretty good day so far.
Lewis MacKenzie’s take on the Liberal amendment:
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20080213.wwcorules13/BNStory/Afghanistan/
Followed by a first paragraph denial at Cherniak’s, which he totally destroys with his last paragraph:
Just because Stéphane Dion is not choosing Afghanistan as the election issue, it does not mean that Afghanistan will not motivate his decision on whether to force an election over the budget. Indeed, it is at that point that we will learn whether he really wants to end the combat mission. The exact words of a wishy-washy Parliamentary motion are all but meaningless. An attempt to change the Government of Canada, however, would be telling.
That’s an interesting comment by Jason Cherniak, rat. It’s tautological.
He says that ‘just because’ Dion isn’t choosing Afghanistan as the election issue (now), doesn’t mean that he won’t choose it as an election issue at budget time (later, not now). Hmmm. I like it when you can deny the reality of an issue now and yet resurrect it later.

Peacekeeping has its place, but frankly, there hasn’t been a situation for the blue berets in quite some time. Both sides have to be separated, have a will for peace, and can control their nutbar elements. This has never applied where Islamists are involved.
