Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

What They Say About SDA
"Smalldeadanimals doesn't speak for the people of Saskatchewan" - Former Sask Premier Lorne Calvert
"I got so much traffic after your post my web host asked me to buy a larger traffic allowance." - Dr.Ross McKitrick
Holy hell, woman. When you send someone traffic, you send someone TRAFFIC.My hosting provider thought I was being DDoSed. - Sean McCormick
"The New York Times link to me yesterday [...] generated one-fifth of the traffic I normally get from a link from Small Dead Animals." - Kathy Shaidle

"Go back to collecting your welfare livelihood." - Michael E. Zilkowsky
Here’s my bottom line: I don’t accept that free-born Canadian citizens need the permission of the Canadian state to read my columns. What’s offensive is not the accusations of Dr Elmasry and his pals, but the willingness of Canada’s pseudo-courts to take them seriously. So I couldn’t care less about the verdict – except insofar as an acquittal would be more likely to bolster the cause of those who think it’s entirely reasonable for the state to serve as editor-in-chief of privately owned magazines. As David Warren put it, the punishment is not the verdict but the process. To spend gazillions of dollars to get a win on points would do nothing for the cause of freedom of speech: It would signal to newspaper editors and book publishers and store owners that it’s more trouble than it’s worth publishing and printing and distributing and displaying anything on this subject, and so it would contribute to the shriveling of freedom in Canada.
….a statement from Mark Steyn posted on Instapundit this morning.
The Canadian HRC should have on principle refused to even consider the complaint.
RACE BASED POLICING POLICY ON TRIAL IN CALEDONIA

“”Haldimand Mayor Marie Trainer and Haldimand-Norfolk-Brant MPP Toby Barrett say they do not see Gary McHale as a danger to their community. Both officials were testifying in court on Monday after being subpoenaed by McHale…..
…Trainer told the court that there is a perception among residents of Caledonia and Haldimand County “that native and non-native are treated differently.”
Barrett also said there is a perception of two sets of laws….In the afternoon, McHale took the stand, but no details can be reported because of a publication ban requested by Paparella following a morning of open testimony. Justice of the peace Dan MacDonald granted the request.
Outside the court, McHale said, “I believe that the public should be informed on everything that’s going on.””

It appears Onterrible has 2 tiered justice as well as 2 tiered policing….publication bans on minor court proceedings when the testimony/evidence implicates malfeasant officials?
“Experts not surprised religious zealotry can lead to shocking violence”
What sensationalist sophistry!…the Post has gone downhill intellectually since Asper bought it, now he’s making it as low-brow and preachy as his other rags.
It is POLITICAL zealotry that has killed 300 million people in the last century and continues to grind them up in its cogs today…as it did in this Pakistani political assassination….religion is the sanitizing cloak of the terrorist…primarily it is a political agenda they pursue.
Radical facist Islam or radical communist statist-globalism or radical Japanese imperialism or radical national socialism what’s the difference together they have killed more people in the last century than all the religious wars in history.
Penny, thanks for the update to the Mark Steyn story and the link. We need to keep following this.

What ban? 300,000 hunt supporters turn out to say tally-ho!
A record number of hunt supporters attended Boxing Day meets across the country, rural campaigners claimed last night.
More than 300,000 turned out for the start of 314 registered hunts on the busiest day in the calendar.
The continuing popularity of the 400-year tradition highlights the Government’s spectacular failure to kill it off when it banned hunting with dogs three years ago…

10 easy tips for a greener New Year
We need more accuracy in journalism. Less “stories,” and more “insight.” Remember, what is a good story is not necessarily true or accurate.
If there’s “2007 false reports of the year” award, I would give it to the CBC. I won’t dispute that earthquakes, plane crashes and forest fires are accurately reported. Canada’s Political events however are mostly the personal opinions of the CBC reporter, and always leaning to the Liberals. One has to understand the CBC is indeed Canada’s Liberal poropaganda machine.
I further beleive that the entire Schreiber-Mulroney affair was (and continues on) as a CBC concoction and distortion of facts. I’ve sent a letter (Nov. 07)) to the CBC asking for an estimate as to how much $$$ the CBC (Toronto) has spent on financing the “Fifth Estate,” and the Schreiber interviews. I’ve yet to receive an answer. My guess is that it’s several times the am’t that was involved in the Mulroney-Schreiber incidents, if indeed there were “incidents.”
I belive the Harper adminstration needs to make the public aware of the CBC’s negative yet powerful influence on the people of this nation.

Most Canadians will pay less tax in 2008: group
[…]
the relief is a result of Finance Minister Jim Flaherty’s Oct. 30 mini-budget, which cut the GST rate to five per cent from six per cent, starting Jan. 1, trimmed the bottom income tax bracket to 15 per cent from 15.5 per cent and increased the basic exemption to $9,600 from $8,929 — both retroactive to Jan. 1, 2007.
The changes under the Conservative government mean that individuals with an income of $45,000 or higher will get about $223 back in retroactive savings when they file their 2007 tax returns.
Because of indexing, the savings rise to $272 per individual in 2008.
As well, the typical household will save between $150 to $200 annually from the reduction in the GST to five per cent from six per cent. …-

As a Christian I am not bothered by the approach the National Post took in their article.
They were good enough to balance any problems with another excellent opinion piece in the same paper by Father Raymond DeSousa. The column is available on line. His thesis that there are both good and bad theological ideas, and that good or bad behaviour flows respectively from each is a breath of fresh air clarifying the relationship between religion and violence. It is not simply that people believe, it is What they believe that counts.

In a move reminiscent of storylines developed during the second world war, the UN is joining forces with Marvel Comics, creators of Spider-Man and the Incredible Hulk, to create a comic book showing the international body working with superheroes to solve bloody conflicts and rid the world of disease. …-

Huckabee Apologizes for Bhutto’s Assassination [Kathryn Jean Lopez]
From CBSNews:
With about 150 supporters crowded around a podium set up on the tarmac of Orlando Executive airport (and about 20 Ron Paul supporters waving signs outside) Mike Huckabee strode out to the strains of “Right Now” by Van Halen and immediately addressed the Bhutto situation, expressing “our sincere concern and apologies for what has happened in Pakistan.” …-

No No No WL Mackenzie Redux! It is religion and the “religious gene” in mankind that is the cause of so many hundreds of millions of deaths over the past centuries. Politics may sometimes provide the motivation, but religion is the inspiration. Religion is the greatest evil ever to have gripped mankind because religion enables the justification of absolutely anything in the name of god or some stupid phrase in a so-called holy book of some sect or other written by foolish, misogynistic, ignorant old men. You refer to radical fascism as an example of politics – wrong! the preaching of the ideas of the “master race” looks and smell like religion to anyone who recognizes the obvious and it certainly appeals to the same trait in people that makes them believe that their religion confers on them the status of chosen (aka “the master”) group who will enter heaven and all other groups are heretics, infidels, or inferior ethnic groups who should be eliminated. The only hope for mankind is the progress begun by the Enlightenment will continue and religion will be consigned to the dustbin of history. Unfortunately, the religious hordes will not go down without a fight, and intend to take everyone with them. They are mad (aka religious) enough and demographically numerous enough to succeed…….
