Regret The Erorr

The Year in Media Corrections, including;

In an article in Monday’s newspaper, there may have been a misperception about why a Woodstock man is going to Afghanistan on a voluntary mission. Kevin DeClark is going to Afghanistan to gain life experience to become a police officer when he returns, not to shoot guns and blow things up. The Sentinel-Review apologizes for any embarrassment this may have caused.

And…

On 16 April we reported on an interview given by Bryan Ferry to a German newspaper. Our article was headed “The Nazis were so amazing” and claimed that Mr Ferry had been “singing the praises of the Nazis”. We now accept this was not true.
In fact, Mr Ferry had spoken only of his admiration from an artistic point of view for some aspects of German art, architecture and presentation which were associated with the Nazi regime. He made no mention of the Nazi regime nor did he use the word “Nazi”. We accept that Mr Ferry abhors the Nazi regime and all it stood for. We apologise to Mr Ferry for the offence caused by our report and are happy to set the record straight.

Let’s just say Mr. Ferry has my “sympathy”.

  1. What the hell is “life experience” supposed to mean anyway? What other type of experience is there?
    It’s like asking “What are our plans going forward?”, as oppossed to, I suppose, our plans going backwards.

  2. Rabbit,
    it is like when I was on dating sites and some women would put this in their profile;
    ” I love life! ”
    err.. of course you do dear, if you did not you would have probably killed yourself by now.
    ok I’m being sarcastic but I just thought it was impossible to be more vague about what they meant.
    PS: Sorry Kate for being off topic, I try to keep it to a minimum!…

  3. The fact that the MSM sometimes make retractions is probably more to do with the legal department than getting the facts right. If they were really sincere then the corrections would be placed and shown with the same prominence the original story and not buried somewhere where nobody can find it.

  4. If you noticed, the paper apologizes in much the same fashion as the NDP..we have accepted that Mr. Ferry abhors the Nazi regime..i have accepted that the member has stated to me that he did not watch porn..
    See the non apology by making it seem that they are accepting a postion of tacit apologetic behaviour, and they have agreed to match said ‘apology’?
    That is not an apology, it’s a quasi justification for unjustifiable behaviour..

  5. National Socialists, Nazi’s. It would be too funny if the media had for some reason to spell out the long form, they’d choke.

  6. From the Telegraph @ the link:
    “APOLOGY: In Friday’s article on Liz Hurley’s wedding it was wrongly stated that the actress is holding a pheasant shoot on the Sunday after the ceremony. Game shooting is of course illegal on Sundays and the pheasant season ended on Feb 1. We apologise for the error and accept that if any shooting is to be done it will be by the paparazzi, who have no season and do not observe the Sabbath.”
    Cheers

  7. Just imagine if the NYTs fired every reporter that lied the paper would fold up and go out of buisness becuase they would have no one left
