It wouldn’t be hard for PMSH to spin this into an investigation into PM conduct over the last 50 years. Martin is still an MP and is conducting personal business as we speak. Chretien treated the treasury of Canada as his own personal business from the minute he became PM.
Then there is Thibuault, sitting on a committee, able to ask questions, when it’s quite clear he interfered in the process, knowing full well this thing would end up right where it is; in fact he likely planned the whole thing with KHS. Canadians are yawning right now, but when Lib complicity now and previous corruption come to light, they will likely perk up, given PMSH is their choice anyway. Sorry, Ted, polls between elections tell us nothing. If they did, Paul Martin would be PM right now.

This is the point isnt it. MP’s are allowed to have other income. Kinsella’s parsing of the text was incorrect….shock.
You cant have income for influencing things beofre the house or other MP’s….not saying you cant have income, just not for that purpose.
So even though the $100,000 has hair on it, the fact that Mulroney received a downpayment for consulting services is fine. To make it not fine you have to prove its purpose wasnt for the stated purposes. Meaning it may have been wrong but it certainly hasnt been proven yet.
Now if they can prove the latest allegation, that there were payments from GCI to MBM, the noose gets a little tighter again.
But yes the 1995 restart of the vendetta is likely worth looking into. Both allegations, that the PM took a bribe or that the Liberal political enemies were being targetted by the national police force are serious charges.
Ultimately I am more troubled by the latter than the former, but if true both are wrong

He has a compelling reason to ‘spill his guts’. KHS should be singing like the proverbial canary.
The NDP, notwithstanding the other chicanery this week, managed to circumvent the LIEberals from preventing former PMBM showing up to the Parliamentary Committee. The high theatre of Parliament should continue for some time.
The Canadian public can gleefully await Mr. Mulroney’s rebuttal to the KHS testimony.

So Cotler signs the deportation order in 2004, and KHS says that this whole thing goes back to 1995, and he’s been fighting in the courts for the last 8(?)years to avoid his day in court in Germany. If the Liberals had been trying to get rid of him for so long why, why were they so keen to keep him in the country at the last minute by starting this circus? The inquiry has turned into a three ring circus with a carnie sideshow, so get his documents and his testimony and then return him to the Fatherland and then and only then will we see the proverbial sh*t hit the fan. When that happens we might see some past Liberals make a run for their offshore havens, I always wondered why Air Canada had a permit to fly into Cuba?
So, is it in the public interest to spend $30m to investigate Schreibers conspiracy theories, clear his name, and save him from German authorities?

You have to make a distinction between proven facts, on which the fellow can be explicitly caught out, and surmise. If Schriber provably perjures himself, he’s a dead duck, but he could get away with surmise. I’m sure he knows it.
Also, when it comes down to it, Schreiber has an obvious incentive to say anything that’ll avoid him getting deported. What do you think his motive would be in complaining against the Liberal Party? To try to win sympathy from the Harper government, perhaps?

I hope and pray that this whol KHS circus serves as the catylist that finally gets to the bottom of the widespread corruption this country has been tarred with for decades. (see Fiumara’s examples).
