I think you guys are missing the point. I mean, I visited the middle east and there are some very natural mannerisms that Westerners have that are culturally insensitive. One such example is showing the bottom of your foot to someone by crossing your legs when you sit in a chair. I don’t find it offensive, but they do. I wouldn’t be arrested or anything for doing that in Jordan or Egypt, but it would look bad on me and who I am representing: Canadians. My actions in the mid-east will shape the way that some of them might view ALL Canadians. And we do the same when foreigners come to visit Canada, our experience with them shapes, in one way or another, our world view and our opinion of their cultural/ethnic grouping.
