  1. This kind of conservative witch hunting is totally bogus dude. To read this bit is to label Rene as some kind of rabble rouser. The man devoted his life to political opportunism, fractionalism and Export greens and you pissants scoff at the greatness of this man.
You fascist freaks look for the tiniest little thing to slag any separatist that doesn’t fit your puny idea of a patriot.
    Flick you 😉
    Syncro

  2. Uh… skretching like Syncro here? Did it just contradict itself?
Levesque would be god to the CBc, since we all know that the French are our masters.

  3. Most people who read and write about the CBC in the blog world recognize Tod Maffin’s efforts as being an embarrassment for the Corporation.
That is, everyone except the Corporation, which allows him to use CBC trademarks and the “official” designation in return for giving the appearance of being tolerant and open to scrutiny.
But Maffin exploits the opportunity by promoting his own company and private interests, and routinely censors comments unfavorable to himself.
The alternative CBC blog, The Tea Makers, is a better example of credibility and integrity.

  4. I for one found Tod Maffin’s CBC post information-rich, funny, and fast-paced. I’m sure he is in high demand as a speaker at major conferences from Stockholm to Sydney.
    And across North America, too.

  5. Communists at the CBC? No, couldn’t be!
My Question is, why the heck didn’t the RCMP arrest them since they appear to be in charge of the place today!

  6. How old is this goof Maffin? Calling cops ‘pigs’ is sooo 60s hippie, it’s like saying ‘groovy’ and ‘right on’. What’s next, ‘twenty-three skidoo’, ‘daddy-o’, outasight’? I always knew most aging leftie nutters were trapped in some 20th century time warp, like those old men you see occasionally on the street who still comb their hair in a 1950s ‘ducktail’. Progressive my ass, more like archaic, lost in a time warp.

  7. Well that’s kind of the point about these aging relics of the 60’s ….. they are over!
And yet our media and our educational institutions are chocked full of the rejects.

  8. “damned pigs”, sarcasm maybe ?
Todd’s thoughts (2004) on not waiting for the asteroid.
“TV station brands, as we know them today, will disappear. Independent program producers will sell directly to, essentially, managers of massive hard drives who will serve the video content directly to the cable providers. Broadcasters will be cut out of the loop, and advertisers will have to cozy up to these new content providers – the cable companies.
….television broadcasters’ role as advertising middlemen is coming to an end. Stepping up to replace them: Cable companies.”

  9. It shouldn’t surprise the upscale latte-soviets who staff CBC these days that the CBC was watched closely in the cold war and beyond.
…as I keep saying, the 20 year closure on the RCMP’s “Feather bed file” has expired…time for Harper to open the file and let us see how deeply government and it’s crown corps were infiltrated with Russian agents….I’m sure the CBC was full of them….the pro Cuba BS coming from CBC during the missile crisis even angered Kennedy.
….the real and more pragmatic fear today is how deeply we are infected with Chinese communist agents.

  10. You know, I always find it funny that the CBC wankers secretly think of the cops as “The Pigs”, but there’s never been a Leftist police state they didn’t love. They all holiday in Cuba and enthuse over it.
They can’t abide the idea of an armed Canadian citizen (or even an armed Canadian soldier for crap sakes!), but Palestinian gunmen and suicide bombers who will cheerfully kill women, little babies, school kids, old geezers and whoever they can lay their sights on, are Noble Freedom Fighters.
Israel (or our guys, or the Yanks, doesn’t matter really) does a suuuper careful missile that kills six KNOWN terrorists and -nobody else-, that’s a terrible thing!! CBC roundly condemns it whenever they get the chance, like in every news cast.
This week Hamas sprays a crowd with AKs and kills six of their brother Palestinians, CBC says “Oh how sad, nothing to see here let’s talk about that arrogant Stephen Harperbushitler who’s gonna starve/kill/maim/destroy/murder old people with eeeevile tax cuts, damn him.”
The part I find funny is they seem to think I won’t notice.

  11. I got warned on another blog the other day for mentioning some rather pertinent points on developing Canadian political stuff, and even “naming names” in my comment. Horrors! I guessed that I wasn’t singing from the proper songbook. This while taxpayer-funded CBC, stretches the truth on current events and practically libels and slanders public individuals in their (CBC) disfavour, on my dime. There is a sickness in this country that needs to be immunized against and soon. People have lost the ability to think critically and be able to discern right from wrong. Our media have become pimps for failed ideology, pet “causes” and social engineering rather than critically acclaimed sources of information of benefit to the public, to allow the public to make up it’s own mind based on the information supplied. We, as the shareholders of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation should make it clear to the management that our best interests are not being served by continuing public support for an out of touch, partisan propaganda machine, such as the publicly funded CBC. Its time to end this mandate in light of advancements in current communications media available to one and all.

  12. They are salivating over the Mulroney thing. Portraying it as the scandal that will bring down the Conservatives. Especially gratifying for them is the Conservative pledge to clean up government.
Of course they don’t mention the obvious. That the Harper government is completely unconnected to any of this. But that doesn’t matter. Smear them any which way they can.
There are commie cockroaches in the woodpile.
    Burn the woodpile.
    With extreme prejudice.

  13. RE: How old is this goof Maffin? Calling cops ‘pigs’ is sooo 60s hippie, it’s like saying ‘groovy’ and ‘right on’
I believe that was the point, actually. A tongue-in-cheek hat tip to the past.
Disclosure : Tod is a friend, so perhaps I get his sense of humour better than most.
    Cheers.

  14. I know rightwingers generally seem to have trouble understanding things like metaphor, and irony, but are you guys really so thick as to miss something so simple as tongue firmly planted in cheek?
You may have also noticed that he said “CBC Montreal houses most of our pinko-red-commie-bastard activities.
If you believe that he’s actually calling cops pigs, do you also suppose that he was letting slip some secret that CBC Montreal is full of communists, or do you suppose he was trying to illustrate how absurd the RCMP investigation was by pretending to be a commie, and using their language?

  15. That’s rich, leftie accusations of missing a metaphor. I could provide links to serious Canadian attempts to propagate on the internet the ‘OilJesusBushHitler thinks Nelson Mandella’s dead’ blatant lie. One of the best most recent examples of obvious leftwing dishonesty and stupidity.

  16. John, as I noted above I’m quite sure CBC Montreal IS full of communists and has been since the RCMP started tripping over them in 1949. Also CBC Toronto, CBC Vancouver, Victoria, et al.
What makes me say that? Oh I dunno, the programming maybe. Or the way CBC brass trips all over themselves hurrying to keep the Chinese Embassy happy. I could go on… and on… and ON.
But time is short here at Chez Phantom. TTFN.

  17. Some good comments are starting to build on the InsidetheCBC site. Unfortunately, when I submitted mine, the site crashed and my comment was apparently lost…but no fears, others are stepping up to the plate.
With hope, maybe some of our disgust with them and the fact that their bias is obvious to the great unwashed will start a change in their attitude.
Michelle, is there any insight that Tod has shared with you regarding the prevailing attitudes at our Communist Broadcasting Cabel that you could share with us?

  18. I think Allan’s in love with me! He certainly seems to spend a lot of time thinking about me.
Perhaps, in the interests of fair blogging, you could have linked to the actual piece:
    http://www.insidethecbc.com/the-gig-is-up-comrade-run
…instead of screen-shotting a small portion out of context.
Read it in its entirety and you will see the entire post is written with a satirical tone.
    Or did you miss that?
Also, not everything posted on the site is written by me. But thanks for pointing out the wording on the site; I’ll change it.

  19. I expect better from some publicly paid hack than some inside jokes about yourselves, on my dime. Who pays for your weblog Tod, you or the taxpayer directly, or indirectly since we seem to be already paying your salary at the CBC? That’s why we don’t have any sense of humour, sport. Give us some real investigative journalism, like that stuff on Falon Gong the CBC pulled.

  20. “But in 1949, the pigs very nice police officers said in a then-secret report:”
“turns out, the fascist, capitalistic coppers were primarily interested in Rene Levesque, the Godfather of Radio-Canada.”
Only brain diseased leftards would call these statements satire.
What makes it worse, these scumbags are our employees.
Nice case being built against the continued funding of the CBC though.

  21. It’s true. I am indeed in love with Tod Maffin.
As I am with all of the creatures who inhabit our planet.
But that doesn’t mean that I’m going to buy into stupidity, deceit, religious fanaticism, or Brian Mulroney’s sworn testimony.
Maffin is of special interest to me because of what it says about the CBC and it’s management, as well as what it says about how people manipulate, exploit and just plain fool the trusting souls who haven’t learned to apply a critical eye and mind to what they are served by media.
I have many, many issues with Tod Maffin as a representative of the CBC, and as someone who sets themselves up above others as a techno-wiene, and manipulates information to make things appear to be something other than what they really are.
A good example is provided even in just the simple drop-in by Tod above.
When you look at the web page of insidecbc, it is clearly stated that this site is “penned” by Tod Maffin … well, actually, it was until a few minutes ago.
He’s suddenly changed the credit to include others.
Suddenly, he wants to distance himself from the stupidity of some of the things written there.
But until now, Tod was the sole writer of everything there, at least he was yesterday.
For more than a year, the credit has read
“Inside The CBC is the CBC’s official employee blog. It’s penned by Tod Maffin, the CBC’s national technology columnist.”
and that’s how it appeared on the day the “Gig Is Up Comrade” story was published.
Now that he’s getting flack for his pea-brained idea of a joke, he suddenly comes forward to say that he may or may not actually be responsible for the article.
And he quickly changes a year-old credit to
“Inside The CBC is the CBC’s official employee blog. It is written and moderated by a variety of CBC employees. Editor: Tod Maffin”
What kind of bullshit is that?
And worse, how does the CBC justify this kind of integrity and ethical approach to publishing information?
My problem with Tod Maffin came to a head when I wrote a remark about him at The Tea Makers blog, and Tod threatened legal action unless it was removed. So the blog owner removed it.
Hey man, that’s my freedom of speech you’re stepping on.
So I published the remarks again, this time on my own blog.
And what do you know, no lawsuit.
After almost 300 posts at my own attempt at “satire”, Tod Maffin is now writing “love letters” to me, asking me to please continue exposing what a phony he is.
No problem. I’ve plenty of material to work with!
I’m particularly sensitive to people who use the internet to fool or abuse others.
I’m not unmindful that there’s a difference between what’s journalism and what’s public relations – a field in which Tod Maffin considers himself an expert.
One day he claims that he writes everything, and when it suddenly suits his purposes, he claims that he doesn’t.
    That’s Tod Maffin.
    That’s the CBC.
OK. That’s the worst of the CBC.

  22. A self-satire over communist sympathies at the CBC, is like a Stormfront satire on Nazis.
That’s why it doesn’t work, and that’s why it isn’t funny.
