   Call me culturally insensitive but doesn’t the inclusion of a white man’s cartoon character sort of negate the whole “traditional native” part?
   On the plus side, it is a nice demonstration of cultural integration…

   It seemed as though she (the reporter) was speaking with an older man at first, who would obviously be more in touch with their traditions. If one Christian makes a mockery of the faith, should we say that all Christians are out to lunch? Hey, did you know you can buy talking Jesus dolls at Wal-Mart? I bet they’re made by atheists in China. Interesting how you’re holding all natives to account because a different young girl is practising in a less traditional sense. If you look at the acculturation of any group throughout history, you will see that aspects within each culture are exchanged over time when differing groups co-exist with each other.
   Additionally, Christianity has been warped and adapted throughout history to satisfy the ideology of the day. Christians of today would not share many values with those who walked the earth shortly after the time of Jesus. In fact, it wasn’t more than two or three centuries ago that the idea of profit and surplus was a horrible sin. But as people started to engage in just that, it became convenient to adapt the faith to allow for private enterprise.
   My point is, traditions change and adapt, often adopting practices that would seem to run contrary to the ideals they once espoused. It’s way too easy to pick out one person and then brand the rest of the people within that culture that way. Answers usually aren’t simple.
