More than 1,200 Iraqi males from in and around Tarmiyah stood in line for hours to join Iraqi Security Forces, local sheiks and Coalition Forces in the fight against al-Qaeda and other insurgent militias in Tarmiyah Sept. 12.

Local sheiks and CF from 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment reached out to the Iraqi people, asking the citizens of the small town of Tarmiyah to volunteer to defend their homes and neighborhoods against the terrorist insurgency in their town.
This concept of the people standing against al-Qaeda and other insurgents has been dubbed an “awakening,” or the mental realization that the terrorists offer nothing but fear and injustice.
“We really see now how this movement, this awakening movement, has really started to take off,” said Lt. Col. William Prior, commander, 4-9th IN. “Just a flicker at first, it’s turned into a full-fledged flame, not just here in Tarmiyah, but also in other parts of my area.

Much more at the link.
I’m holding my breath, crossing my fingers and remaining steadfast in hope. I supported this war effort and continue to.
Ultimately, a people has to find its own grit against tyranny.
Winning!
And, often, they have to have a little bit of help. Like the German population who were freed from a tyrant.
It might not have been our intent, but it is exactly what happened.

Despite the dangerous, difficult work, Manion later made plans to join his old Recon unit and continue working in Fallujah past his MiTT rotation. He believed in his Marines and mission. I wish he could have lived to see Fallujah now – a newly hopeful city, comparatively pacified to no small extent by the efforts of the Iraqi Army and their American advisors.
We had a brief acquaintance, but I was specifically inspired by Travis Manion when we met that chilly evening in January. Here was a young man – ridiculously athletic, smart and good-looking – who could have enjoyed a life of ease with the world at his feet, yet instead chose one of the most difficult paths imaginable. His subsequent actions and ultimate passing have inspired me even more, and continue to inspire others.
“Let all know too, we shall fight on, insh’allah (as God wills), as Mulazam Manion would want, and would do,” said Col. Garza.
just like the libs and the dippers cant understand why the Canadian forces have less trouble recruiting now that they have a combat role rather than the waterskiing and standing about of 10 years ago.
pride.
No, no, it can’t be, it’s a quagmire!
Quaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagmire!!!!!!!!!
Not meaning to be needlessly provocative, but we can thank ONE guy for having the sheer balls to see this thing through. He’s got the guy on the street in Camel Butt Iraq believing the Americans are men of honor who do what they say they will.
He didn’t do it alone, but without him it wouldn’t have happened.
That one guy is George W. Bush. Thank you George!
Bad news for the Democrats in the US, who are staking their entire election campaign on the expectation Iraq is a losing cause.
Should be an interesting run-up to the elections.
And, on an even cheerier note, Duceppe is hinting he’ll bring down the Canadian government unless it meets certain conditions.
Hey Gilles. Your party just lost 19% of the popular vote from the general election on Monday.
Fill yer boots.
Nice to see! There’s those who seem to be in the know that have said from the beginning, that arming the people is the answer. Hmmmm? An armed people are a free people. I like that!! I has a good rhythm and you can dance to it. I give it a 10.
Pat
Yeah, but aren’t they mad at Al-Queda only ‘cos they’re killing Iraqis?
MND:
Curiously, al-Quaeda is an offshoot of the Sunni persuasion.
Al-quaeda Sunnis vs Iraqi Sunnis.
Iranian Shi’ites vs Iraqi Sunnis.
Hard to keep up with all this without a program.
Only good news is that the average citizen is now signing up for a national army.
Once al-Quaeda gets routed, then what will the US Dems have to bitch about?
Seeing the work of Al-Queda as the work of satan will cause the Iraqis to turn on them with a vengence. We know how muslims tend to over react. In this case it will be a reaction that is welcomed and well deserved. As we say in the west, ain’t payback a bitch!
These people are so socially repressed we cannot even imagine. I had a friend who was in Saudi Arabia. She smuggled out letters because everything is checked. We only support these regimes because of oil. When the oil is gone we’ll abandon them. That’s the only reason.
SYF:
It’s not only what will the US Dems have to bitch about, what will the Dippers and Liberals bitch about when their main Battering Ram, Bush, wins the day?
If you want to focus the barbarism of these mutts away from the US you give them another target to hate.
Wouldn’t surprise me a bit if CIA were dusting these local icons and leaving AQ foot prints from the crime…was done before in Afghanistan.
wlmr- if one disregards your insults and relentless anti-Americanisms, your post also suggests that the Iraqi people are mindless hapless idiots – all radicals, all ideologues, all frothing and fuming about…
Has it ever occurred to you that they are not all ideological junkies; that the majority just want to live a reasonable personal life, in their country – in a peaceful manner – without ideologists and/or criminals – and Al Qaeda fits both definitions – harming and killing them?
Has it ever occurred to you that the sectarian or tribal differentiations, kept alive by Hussein, set up kin group (tribe) against kin group – and that this political/social mode has been the norm in the ME for thousands of years? It certainly hasn’t been set up by the Americans.
Who is exploiting these differences and from promoting tribal fighting? Al Qaeda/Iran – to prevent the Iraqi people from setting up a democracy in the area.
This is great news! It is finally sinking in, over in Iraq, that this is an oppertunity for the citizens of Iraq to take control of their own country!!
President Bush thought that the people of Iraq would seize the oppertunity to empower themselves immidatly after the coalition invaded and toppled Saddam from his bloody throne. The Iranians, like the Russians were too dumbed down by years of grinding terror and propaganda to believe anything their eyes told them.
It took a long time for those people to crawl out of their own perception of their own entitlement to enslavement to take control over their own destiny.
As you say Phantom, the Iraqui people can thank one man for their new sense of self worth – President G.W. Bush. Mr. Bush believed in them when they did not believe in themselves.
President Bush is in my prayers every day. I am a believer in freedom for all people.
Phantom: “He didn’t do it alone, but without him it wouldn’t have happened.
That one guy is George W. Bush. Thank you George!”
I can’t help but think of how we would have made out in WW11 if W. Churchill had to deal with the same type of opposition as GW has faced.
The rules of war are clear: “Maintain the aim”: (Carl Von Clausewitz.) The alternative is to loose. And that is precisely what the moonbats want.
Loose = not tight.
Lose = opposite of win.
I continue to be totally amazed at how many people, on several blogs, add an extra ‘o’ in this four-letter word.
Still, I agree with the direction of the post.
The Iraq action is US-driven, as opposed to Afghanistan, a NATO action sanctioned by the United Nations.
Our own NDP/Bloc/Lib moonbats cannot make the distinction between missions, but like the Democrats in the US gain strength from others’ failures.
Since both are going much better now, the nit-picking will get even more intense by those who offer no positive alternative.
One word for them: Losers.
You know very well that the Leftards only aim is to see conservatives, their beliefs and initiatives proven wrong and failed.
This is what the Liberal mind is ALL about …. arrogant assumption of being RIGHT because they believe their ideology.
The intrusion of reality and consequences into the idealist/liberal world is something to be feared and they WILL not accept any contrary evidence…. even to the point of seeing their own society crumble. Because they know that their answer to that is “It’s the conservatives fault”.
