A Children’s Guide to 9/11 (Updated)

And updated again BBC Backtracks On Correction
***
And bumped.
The blogosphere gets results!“The BBC has taken down the original quoted page that implied 911 was America’s fault.”
Original post continues below:
From the BBC;

The way America has got involved in conflicts in regions like the Middle East has made some people very angry, including a group called al-Qaeda – who are widely thought to have been behind the attacks.
In the past, al-Qaeda leaders have declared a holy war – called a jihad – against the US. As part of this jihad, al-Qaeda members believe attacking US targets is something they should do.
When the attacks happened in 2001, there were a number of US troops in a country called Saudi Arabia, and the leader of al-Qaeda, Osama Bin Laden, said he wanted them to leave.

And who is Al-Qaeda?

Al-Qaeda has been accused of being behind a series of attacks and bombings since its formation in the late 1980s.
Because of this, it is classed as a terrorist organisation by the UK government.
Members are followers of Islam but they have very extreme beliefs that are different from those of many Muslims.
They believe they are fighting a holy war (jihad) against enemies of their religion.
Al-Qaeda hopes its attacks will make Western countries treat Muslims differently in areas like the Middle East, the Balkans and Chechnya .
People have joined the group from many countries including Britain.
They operate internationally but are thought to be strongest in Arab countries.

Unbelievable.
It’s as if the CBC wrote this stuff.

(Upon further reflection – there’s something that does ring appropriate when leftist crap like this is written in a 5 year old’s voice.)

This (serving) Stoker in the Navy feels the same way you do.
I’d be in Afstan now, but for the CF understanding that we still have oceans to patrol, coastlines to protect, and junior pers to train.
And never doubt that your support here is not understood and appreciated by those of us in the CF who drop by.
    ReadyAyeReady
    😉

  2. If I understand him correctly, Iberia proposes that only those who currently serve or have served in the armed forces in combat situations have a legitimate right to comment on or determine foreign policy matters involving military intervention. I am in full agreement with his proposal and will therefore, as a devotee of civilian life, refrain from commenting further, except to say that I am intrigued to see what turns Canada’s foreign policy will now take, being directly solely by combat vets and active duty CF personnel. Should be very interesting.

  3. Stow your lies lberia nobody is buying you in any uniform, other than your village people standard.

  4. Wow! I guess it was only inevitable I guess that a thread about childish version of history would bring out the childish name calling. The fact that leftoids in the west want to neuter the facts to avoid offending the “group du jour” is not news. Now if there were leftoids in the ME fighting for judeo-christian (or gay/lesbian) groups being offended by countries there, then that would be news.
BTW, I didn’t realize that stokers were medically trained (“Bum knee, eh? Sure…how convenient.”). I guess Iberia put all that sickbay ranger time to good use.

  5. Alan:
Actually, it was Harper who said something to that effect when O’Connor was being criticised. I don’t agree with that…everyone has the right to make a comment since we still live in a free country. But if you’re going to support the troops, then support them…lame excuses don’t cut it: sign up and “fight them over there so we don’t have to fight them over here.” Otherwise, you are a chickenhawk.
On the otherhand, the comments on this thread show what a weak grasp of reality right wingers have. No doubt you would prefer the BBC to spew out your “They hate us for our freedoms” crap. It is naive and simplistic thinking like this which has resulted in the current mess in Iraq and Afghanistan.

  6. Iberia,
So, by your definition, you’re only allowed to comment on the military as a civilian if you hate them. If you support them, you aren’t allowed an opinion unless you’re standing in the recruitment line.
You’re a fricken retard and so are a lefty. You lot are truly demented, infantile a$$holes.

  7. Crabgrass,
The sentiment. The entire idea that the only issue is US presence is sophmoric. The terrorists want to continue their religion’s imperialism and spread it over the planet. This is not supposition but their declared goal.
The idea that all the west has to do is leave the ME to have peace is a bald-face lie.
It’s both what they did say and what they didn’t say that offends.
    Now go back to sleep.

  8. Iberiduh,

Actually, your comment shows the profoundly “weak grasp of reality” firmly belongs in your limp hand.
“They” don’t hate us for our freedom, or for that matter, for the colonialism that you leftard’s from the party of conspicuous compassion spout on about.
“They” just plain hate infidels. It’s commanded and rewarded in their war manual – the Quran. This hate has not changed for 1400 years. They’ve just got the oil money and the socialist idiot help to do something about it right now.
Oh, and in answer to your question, Crabgrass:
    Yours.

a stint on the “Rustyguts” would be light service indeed. but congrates on being in the service during the waterskiing and holiday era run by the libs.
I come from a long line of service volunteers and volunteered myself ,but alas didnt make the cut, suffering from something that got Lord Nelson a promotion but got me rejected.

  10. Warwick, the article doesn’t say that the only issue is US presence and it doesn’t say that all the west has to do is leave the ME to have peace.
If it’s the fact that the article comes across as neutral that bothers you, just say so. There’s no need to be unfriendly.
Irwin, you have a real economy with words, but your thinking doesn’t exactly shine through. Please show your work.

  11. Warwick:
Actually, you’ve got it backwards. Anytime someone says that they disagree about the occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan, they are called terrorist supporters by right wingers. “You don’t support the troops if you don’t support the mission” etc. therefore “you support the terrorists.” A great way to shut down debate. So back at you…if you are so adamant that “we have to fight them over there,” then put your money where your mouth is. Put your life on the line and go kill some terrorists, otherwise you are a hypocrite.
    Irwin:
If you were around 100 years ago you would be going on about The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Get some help for your paranoia.
    Belasarius:
Unfortunately, I don’t remember too many of the personalities, but even though I spent a short time there I thought the Kootenay was a good ship with a good crew.

  12. A news report today chronicles attempts by jihadists in Pakistan trying to blow up Buddhist statues, the same way the Taliban did in Afghanistan pre-9/11.
I suppose then that the perpetrators were just getting back at the US for invading Afghanistan by blowing up another Buddhist statue.
    Maroons!

    Dear Mr O’Connell
Thank you for your email to Newsround. The article you are referring to
is an old guide that we thought had been purged from our system.
It is my understanding that it was written on the day of the attacks
back in 2001. I agree that it is inappropriate and it is now being taken
    off the site.
In addition to this, I have asked staff to do a thorough search to
ensure the guides that remain online are accurate and objective.
I am genuinely sorry that this article has appeared and that it has
    caused offence,
    Best wishes,

BBC Has Corrected The Children’s Guide to 9/11

Even the tools (your fellow leftards) at BBC figured it out!

    Yup.
I can see the direct connection.

If you haven’t guessed by now, that if you don’t fit into their preconceived notions of what military people are supposed to be like (as in having opinions other than right-wing) then they have a hard time believing you served.
If you want them to believe you are/were in the military you must-
1- Never criticize anything military, especially the leadership.
2- Never criticize the equipment purchases of the Conservatives
3- Never admit military people are just human.
4- Never point out facts such as, people who join the infantry are usually not the sharpest knives in the drawer.
5- Never point out that by selling off equipment and closing bases, the Mulroney Conservative government in eight years was far more damaging to the military than both the Trudeau and Chretien governments combined. Also never point out that the CH-146 Griffins, one of the few pieces of equipment that the Mulroney government did purchase, sit unused in Canada because they are sadly inadequate for the needs of the army. All while helicopters are needed in Afghanistan.
6- Never remind them that it was the Trudeau government that made the last big purchases like CF-18s, CP-140s, Leopard 1 tanks, Iroquois Class destroyers, Boeing 707s etc.
7- Never suggest that investigations should be carried out in order to determine whether or not the Canadian military committed war crimes when handing over prisoners. Even if you point out that the responsibility to determine whether war crimes where being committed was not the responsibility of the lower ranking soldiers doing the hand over.
Doing any of the above will, in their minds, disqualify your status as a veteran.

At least he served while you didn’t. Might I remind you that in 91 even though the Kootenay may not have been there, the Canadian navy was in the Persian Gulf during Gulf War V 1.0. I really don’t think they were water skiing and holidaying, do you.
One thing I’m a bit confused about though. You said “congrates on being in the service during the waterskiing and holiday era run by the libs.” Are you now trying to blame the period of peace that came between end of the Cold War and the outbreak of he first Gulf War on the Liberals?

  17. OBL is intent on converting the western world to Islam. For you people of Ont, Islam is a religion. The reaction to FB schools in the coming Ont election tells me that the media and many of those living in Ont are against religion.
So, why are you so intent on supporting Islam as a religion. Or, are you only against religions that believe in God, and practicing christianity, support womens rights, girls going to school and freedom not to be in costume when going out. I guess you just assume all of you who support ssm, and the gay lifestyle will be exempt when the beheadings start.

  18. “MaryT at September 13, 2007 10:24 AM”
Some, but not all good points. Maybe it’s time to revisit the charter of rights and where it says-
Whereas Canada is founded upon principles that recognize the supremacy of God and the rule of law:
    amend it to say-
Whereas Canada is founded upon principles that recognize the rule of law:
    and
    2. Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms:
    a) freedom of conscience and religion;
    amend it to say
    2. Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms:
    a) freedom of conscience;
Stating any reference to a god or religion as a right is too divisive, too dangerous and generally causes more problems than it’s worth. It bring into question of whose god and also infringes on the rights of those who do not believe in any gods. It’s like stating you have a right to wear pink, and wearing pink is a personal choice that doesn’t need explicit protection. Problems arises when a personal choice infringes on others, and religion indeed infringes on others.
Christianity is no better than Islam, Islam is no better than Judaism and Judaism is no better than Christianity.

    So, so, so there!
This is the problem with leftards – feeble minds create feeble arguments.
But given how they keep coming back for more, you’ve got to congratulate them on being so masochistic.

  20. 80% Christian?? I doubt it. Lots belong to no religion. Keep them stats coming in. A lot of the world thought America brought on 9/11. The majority of people I knew thought that. That includes right and left wingers.

  21. How long have you bloggers lived in Canada? When I hear the crap on this blog I wonder where you have been for the last 20 years. In a cave?? You remind me of mushrooms!!!!

  22. “Anti-Americanism and sophmoric ad-hominem slurs” just to prove I’m more bats#%t crazy than the BBC

  23. Oh I know Glen Miller to Satchmo to Jimmy Hendrix, but what have they brought to music in the past 35 years. Brittany Spears and what’s that guys name, Ice Rink or something?
I’m afraid anything put out today is anything but St. James Infirmary. Today’s American music is too commercial and no longer about the art, that gives Canadian musicians a great advantage.

  24. I said gave us music in the past tense. I listen to CJTR community radio 91.3 FM. No contoversy just interesting music and programs. A breath of fresh air in Radio. What independant radio was meant to be.
