In a proposal with all the economic rationality of developed world agricultural subsidies that pay farmers not to farm, Ecuador has seriously proposed that it be paid $350 million per year not to develop one of its oil fields as a contribution to alleviate global warming. According to the article “countries like Italy and Norway, as well as international foundations, the Inter-American Development Bank, the United Nations and universities in the United States have voiced interest in the Ecuadorian proposal.”

We have a version of the Chavez show in Canada – the Dionsky Deke. Apparently, GHG emissions went up in Canada because Tories and big, bad Klein and Harris (yeah, he said it) stopped their MAJORITY GOVERNMENT from taking action. Those stupid Canadians, working hard, creating jobs, increasing fuel efficiency – IT’S THEIR FAULT TOO.
Picture this guy in election campaign, where he gets challenged right away, every time. I can hear it now “This is not fair ….do you think it’s easy to (be a leader,) set priorities?”
No, it’s not easy, but that’s no excuse for inaction. Tories have done more in 15 months than Libs did in 13 years.
Mark my words, kids, Harper and CPC will mop floor with these guys in election.
Libs hoping to delay election until 2009, so some calamity can happen so they can BLAME Tories and win election. That is their only strategy, hoping for big body count out of Afghan, or terrorist attack here, or economic slowdown.
hey Gord this is what the NDP have been waiting for. We do nothing and get paid for it!
Can we get a subsidy for not importing immigrants into our high energy use country from low energy use countries?
Conservation easements: Excellent idea, thre been several case here in the US where millionaires buy up expensive land, build a nice house inthe middle and get a easement for all but a few acres. The hole inthe doughnut.
Towns HATE it. Suddenly 100 acres of taxable land becomes 5 acres and some change.
I’m conflicted because in many areas it’s the only way your’re going to avoid wall to wall developement but it’s benefiting basically onlythe rich guy inthe middle…it’s not like the remain 95 acres are public use.
