Why have a debate? AP has already written its lede: It’s 3:15. The big South Carolina Democratic debate starts in 45 minutes. But you don’t have to actually watch it. AP’s Nedra Pickler has already filed her story, in the past tense.

psychic journalism? Fourth estate occultism?
Gee it’s great not having to wait for events to happen before we get the spin on them.
I watched part of the ‘debates’.
Edwards, well, he looks and sounds like a first year undergrad. That’s not a compliment.
Hillary – she’s very New York – hard to explain what that means, except that it has strong overtones of being a Cloud Dweller, someone focused around the security and high-rise unreality of an urban life.
Obama – the only word that came to mind, unbidden, was ’empty’. I’m not sure what I even mean by that – but, there wasn’t anyone there.
Dennis Kucinich – now there’s a frightening leftist – sounds a lot like Jack Layton, wanting to ‘negotiate’ and ‘talk’ with Al Qaeda, Syria, etc. Every time he said something, it was worse than the time before.
Bill Richardson was the only one, I felt, with any strength; a basic ‘hands-on’ person.
Can’t recall the others.
Crickets didn’t chirp–they completed their entire life-cycle during the pause after Edwards was asked to name his ‘moral leader.’ …
Great line. Anyone catch who it was? Jose Eber, the Hollywood hairdresser? I didn’t watch.
Give Nedra Pickler a break, it’s possible she’s AP’s token Republican hire and amusing herself.
penny- if I recall correctly, I think he finally said his father, his wife….
I think it’s a difficult question, frankly. Is there any one person who influences one? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. If you asked me the question, I’d be unable to give a reply. Living persons? What about Cicero, Aristotle, Shakespeare and so on?
I remember when one of my sons was applying to grad school – and one of the questions asked in the application was to ‘describe a moral dilemma you have faced in your life’. He couldn’t think of one – which is actually, I feel, a sign that he was not ‘morally challenged’ – but, the application wanted an example.
I suggested – how about the moral dilemma of having to lie, and make up a moral dilemma, just to satisfy the entrance requirements of this university?
This would be the same AP whose reporters Michael Fumento writes of? I’m shocked….
ET: “Dennis Kucinich – now there’s a frightening leftist – sounds a lot like Jack Layton, wanting to ‘negotiate’ and ‘talk’ with Al Qaeda, Syria, etc. Every time he said something, it was worse than the time before.”
I don’t follow American politics particularly closely but my impression is that Kucinich is considerably to the left of Layton, which is interesting – not that he has even a remote chance of becoming the Democratic presidential contender.
Exile:
Think of Kucinich as as an American version of Hedy Fry or Svend Robinson in their finer moments. You have to see his act to believe it.
