  1. Folks, she is doing the correct thing (for daddy’s sake, anyway).
She is clearly going nowhere with the Liberals. Despite all of Dion’s talk about female candidates, she has been invisible.
Daddy and this Schwartz fellow are about to buy a big auto manufacturer. One that is going to need a lot of money to stay competitive. One that our friend Buzz is going to make a lot of noise about if they don’t get government support. One that employs a lot of voters in say Newmarket, Aurora, Brampton, Windsor.
Who better than Belinda to know the right people in Ottawa. Competition is all about getting the right taxpayer handouts. You do not think that Magna will not be knocking on the same doors that Bombardier just passed through?

  2. Not sorry to see her go, she really was a political featherweight…
BUT I do appreciate her efforts in 2003 to get the PC’s and Alliance together…

  3. Globe Poll
Belinda Stronach is planning to exit the federal political stage. Will you miss her?
    Yes (24%) 104 votes
    No (76%) 335 votes

  4. belinda will probably go out before she goes back to magna and try on a new “Tie”.

  5. NorthernLight, I think you’re too kind. Yes, she may have helped get Reform and Alliance together but it was only because of what was in in it for her. Just look at how quickly she abandoned any pretense of being a Conservative.

  6. I think Belinda is now positioned to be of even more help to her father.
Obviously in addition to being a wealthy, well-connected family, she now brings the status and cachet of her tenure as an MP.
She’s positioned to be a perfect rainmaker, like Hillary was at the Rose law firm in Little Rock.
In the social circles that they travel in this will mean an extra measure of power and connection to government.
Whenever someone shows up they want to impress, they simply point Belinda at them. Rich heiress, former member of Parliament, daughter of the head man himself, who has been in the game all her life and knows how to play it.
She’ll have prestige in the States that she didn’t enjoy before. Down here people will be impressed by her status as a member of Parliament.
So I would say that Belinda needs to resurrect Harold Robbins or Jaqueline Susanne to write her biography. She’s now positioned for even higher and more rarefied flights in the world of Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. (and if anyone were discreetly going to have a subsidy that enjoyed revenue from a new erotic software company, well… she would be there as an expert advisor.)

  7. Wanabee leader of the CPC
    Wanabee leader of the LPC
The reality of it is she was just a Tie breaker

  8. I’m really suprised she is leaving politics but Jack Layton is not retiring so what party could she switch to and possibly seek the leadership of

  9. contest!!! name the new biography for Belinda.
Nobodys Bi tch, by Sheila Copps, forward by Peter Mckay.
Lifestyles of the Bi tch and Shameless, by Scooter Brison, forward by Svend Robinson
Steal Magna lias by Hedy Fry ,Forward by Buzz Hargroves.

  10. I’ve noticed that Stephane Dion basically has cast Belinda aside from his “shadow cabinet”. And that is probably what made Belinda go running to her daddy in January for a better job.
Can this be a pay back because Belinda took over Newmarket Auroro from Martha Hall Findlay’s crasp? Everyone sees that Martha Hall Findlay is sucking up to Stephane Dion.
    Hmmm. Seems awfully suspicious.

  11. OMG! What would one expect? Belinda, which means “beautiful snake,” couldn’t become the leader of either the CPC or the Librano$ (well, go figure!!!), so now she’s running home to Daddy. Who’s surprised?
She reminds more of an ugly stepsister: Me, me, me all the time. Like heck her “family life” is suffering. She’s just bitten off more than she can chew and now she’s crawling home. Well, that’s how snakes get around.

  12. Baby,I want you to drop what you’re doing and come back to work for us…pursue a few liaisons with some of the competition execs. so we can get the edge on the market. I’ll double your salary as you’d be doing alot for the family business.
OH DADDY!,You know you don’t have to pay me to do that!

  13. Lookout, you are wrong. She is quite attractive, when she has blonde hair, and in the right light. Seriously, though, I met her and she is worthy a rogering.

  14. Lookout, you are wrong. She is quite attractive, when she has blonde hair, and in the right light. Seriously, though, I met her and she is worthy a rogering.

  15. Yes, Belinda jumped to Titanic Librano$ and now jumping to Titanic Magna$.
It will take longer, but Magna$ fortunes are headed downhill unless they decide to get into the Electric Vehicle mfng business. [comment in tips]…
Must be ESP. Now see the news that Magna is getting into bed with the Chrysler / GM / Cabasys megaloconsortium, in fact. = TG

  16. Make that CObasys, the people with license to Chevron*s patent grip on the large format NiMH battery.
It*s a big club who will collect spec funds for an interesting future from us at the gas pumps.= TG

  17. Say what you like about Belinda; she has a nice body and I want to taste it.

  18. I got a message for all magna employees:
be afraid. be very afraid. this woman is very soon going to be making all the very top level decisions that determine the fate of thousands of you and your fellow employees and customers and their employees…..
I wonder how many of them vote liberal?

  19. Catherine:
I’ve noticed that Stephane Dion basically has cast Belinda aside from his “shadow cabinet”. And that is probably what made Belinda go running to her daddy in January for a better job.
But can you see what a big mistake that would be? imagine the money – NOT – now flowing to the Liberal coffers.

  20. rb,
Belinda will be executive vice-chairperson of Magna.
That means she will have decision-making power over refilling the coffee maker, dresses to wear at Magna cocktail parties, and cleaning Daddy Frank’s boots.
That kind of stuff doesn’t affect 1000s of jobs – it’s just another patronage/patsy position – WHICH WAS EXACTLY HER ROLE IN GOVT TO THE Nth degree.

  21. Déjà vu Riding Talk Canada votes 2006
…Sell your shares in Magna, Belinda is coming back!…
…The game is over for Belinda Stronach and the Liberal Party of Canada…
…how did she win again? Don’t people watch the f**king news?…
…Anyone who thinks that she had any real power at Magna does not know what he/she’s talking about. Mostly she did “special projects”, which means that she did pretty well anything she wanted and got a paycheque for it. She certainly did not make a move without daddy’s and the board’s OK…

  22. North American Auto makers are suffering a perfect storm and are circling the wagons.
Not only do makers face popular and stiff offshore competition but they must block the public from going directly to the EV and keep Hybrids as the popular choice.
Once the public learns to demand the EV, ICEngines and everything Magna makes, except for lights, electrics and brakes, will no longer be required.
So, Magna, Chrysler, GM, Cobasys and others are circling the wagons for survival.
Chevron and Exxon are praying for the hybrid too = TG

  23. jmorrison: I believe it is two terms and six years.
Catherine, a Liberal in 905 losing? Yeah right. Most of them breathe in the stupidity that is Toronto.
I must say, I am surprised at the timing of this. If one is to believe the conventional thinking that is an election sooner rather than later, when Dion does burn and crash, that a leadership election would happen soon after. It doesn’t preclude her from running for said leadership, though, I suppose.
For as easy as it is to make fun of her, and Don Martin makes this point quite astutely, she has done more to help the Conservative Party, and really deserves our praise for being as brainless as she is.

  24. Yes, I believe she did help Tories, who might not have been ready for election at time of her defection; at least not as strong (candidates and policy) as they ended up.
Anyway, I don’t understand why she is getting this attention. She never paid her dues, as role model or politician, and her brief and unremarkable tenure is a dull blip on political radar screen.
Nothing to see here. Way better stuff to consider, like latest investigation into Libs and byelection calls, for example.
Of course, my heart goes out to families of latest lost in Afghanistan. It seems ironic to me that those who are saying we aren’t getting mission done are those least willing to put resources and diplomacy into play that are required. Then again, what’s new regarding treatment of military.
I wonder if Dion or Layton will try to play politics with this one.

  25. OH, one more thing about Belinda.
You know the area she was able to influence while in government. Human resources.
Magna has many scattered plants and thousands of employees.
If Magna had someone in government to influence the fine print about fulltime / part time employee conditions, standings and benefits, do you suppose they could save Million$ ?
    Bingo! = TG

  26. The only surprise in the “sudden” resignation of BS is that others are surprised. It has appeared to me that she has ALWAYS taken the easy road to success.
She has finally realized that to make a name for oneself (and ultimately become leader of a party) in politics takes a lot of time and a lot of WORK. The kind of work that she has never been willing to do. I have more respect for the former leader of the Canadian Communist Party than I have for her.
For her it is now time to return to the protective tent of the family business, where she will enjoy an undeserved hammer.
My only concern is her wish to spend more time with her children. Would want a mother like that spending more time with you??

  27. I never really understood the comparison of Belinda with a dog. I always thought of her as more of a fish:
“..northern pike hunt with this basic philosophy: “Strike first, ask questions later!” Pike favor “fast and flashy” when it comes to lures. If it has a lot of action and attracts attention, northerns will probably attack it. However, they are known to regularly break off the hunt if the target doesn’t look right.”

  28. Somehow I don’t think that belinda is going to screw up Magna… daddy likes money too much to see it pissed away. Now her pissing away the taxpayer’s money, well that is a horse of a different (hair)colour.
I guess this answers a lot of questions and speculation about why BS has been a no-show lately and not in the MSM spotlight.

  29. Stronach is a rich woman that at one time had a lot of time on her hands and so she said to herself: Herself, I wanna be a Prime Minister of Canada, I’m rich and I can buy it. I will jump from here to there until I get it.
Things did not work out that way.
Now Stronach thinks she will be CEO of Chrysler.
    There you have it.

  30. Whooo, tonyguitarded drops all those scaaaary names – Magna, Chrysler, GM, Cobasys, Chevron and Exxon – I’m sure they’re soooo AFRAID of electric cars!!! Electricity just falls out of the sky in lightning bolts, all the cars and buses and semi-trailers could be running on the infinite electricity supply in a matter of months if only we had a great leader like Stalin or Chavez to make it all happen. Yeah, it’s so frightening to the ESTABLISHMENT. Man.

  31. Real Conservative: “When will ‘these people’ leave politics to those that understand it and go back to their one true calling in life: syphoning up wealth.”
When will ‘these people’ leave politics to those that understand it and go back to their one true calling in life: sycophancing up wealth.
    There. Fixed that for you.

  32. I can’t wait to read the Financial Post’s appointments section to read about Tie Domi as the next Vice-President, Human Resources of Magna.
“Magna is very pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Tie Domi, NHLPA to the newly created position of Vice-President, Human Resources. With an extensive background in labour relations as member of the National Hockey League’s Players Association, Mr. Domi brings many years of experience having been extensively involved in the disciplanary process albeit on the receiving end. Labour Relations is a tough business and Mr. Domi is as tough as they come.”
Interview: “Tie, this is a big job. Do you have the business acumen for a position like this?” Tie: “You know, it will get some getting used to this new environment and s***. My job has always been challenging. The coach would throw a milk bone on to the ice and say ‘ Tie, you can have it if you kill that mother***** Chris Simon’ and I would totally lose it. But I gotta tell ya, I got the job done. The unions at Magna are a bunch of goons and being a goon, I know how to deal with those guys, you know what I mean?” Question: “What about collective bargaining; will you be able to deal with complex contracts?” Tie: “Sure thing bub, big fancy words don’t scare me. It’s like the divorce case, lots of paper and s*** but that s*** doesn’t slow me down and no d*** b***c is gonna scare me.” Question: “Who will you be reporting to in your new role?” Tie: “You know what they say bub, how people get f****d by their boss. That’s not always so bad.”

  33. I wonder how soon before Magna starts selling the new model of “Leaf Blower” in their stores. Good ridance,

  34. Anon,
The electric supply is virtually infinite when
you consider there is no blackout when the city turns turns on it*s collective stove to cook supper at 5pm.
Current demand for charging is a tiny fraction of stove demand and is stretched out over 4 to 6 hours at off peak times.
In fact there are many heavy equipment fleets operating in most major cities in North America as you will discover at this
    US Dept of Energy website;
    eere.energy.gov/fleetguide/vehicle_search.php
What link can you provide to back your view? = TG

  35. Am I the only one who remembers her campaign kickoff back in ’03 (I think), when she announced she would be running for leadership of the CPC? She went to the podium, the crowd quieted down, and she stared in silence like a deer caught in the headlights for about 15 long seconds because her teleprompter didn’t come on. Freakin’ hilarious, totally typical, and exactly what the country ended up getting from her: a complete vacuum.

  36. Belinda is not resigning right away because the Liberals would lose the byelection.
Harper needs to call an election ASAP to get Newmarket Aurora a new Conservative MP.

  37. “Now, if Ruby Dhalla retires, that’s a different kettle of fish.”
DM: Agreed on Ruby Dhalla, but my dream of her, Stronach, and Ambrose peeling and feeding me grapes while I lay naked on a bed of ostrich feathers has been shattered with Belinderella’s departure.
    I’m distraught.
