Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

bye bye belomi, belomi bye bye
Off to bake economic pies.
Can’t say I am overly surprised but definitely pleased to see the news. Brings about the end of a short and not so sweet political experiment.
Good riddance to the oportunistic carpetbagger.
I heard that she was quiting so she could devote more time to scr…..I mean… coaching hockey teams. Yea that’s it.
Wasn’t there a cool train-wreck photo around here a while ago ?
I was wondering if it would be too much to have Peter MacKay stand up in the House and make some kind of comment like “there she goes running with her tail between her legs”.
I can only say good luck to the employees and shareholders of Magna. Forget the train-wreck, this is gonna be one huge car wreck.
A short political career that was almost the exact opposite of Midas; everything she touched turned to lead. The PC’s, McKay relation’p, Paul Martin’s leader’p, LPCs, Domi. Wow, an almost uncanny ability to do the wrong thing at the wrong time everytime. I’m sure the Magna execs are DELIGHTED to have her back.
Why sit around in Parliament when you have the opportunity to run a company like Chrysler into the ground…
What an impostor–even as a businessperson. More like daddy’s spoiled little girl. Has this woman actually earned anything in her entitled and pretentious life at the shallow end of the gene pool?
Ungracious or not, all I can sincerely say to this unattractive sycophant is good riddance.
Does anyone happen to know if the polling in Newmarket-Aurora may be indicating that she could not get re-elected as a Liberal?
Oh yeah… “assessing the best role she can play in public life”?
I guess the difference in paycheques between being an MP and being a CEO running daddy’s company didn’t have ANYTHING to do with her decision.
Of course, this really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody who follows her life. It’s not like she has stuck through with anything that didn’t involve nepotism of some sort. One year at York U., a couple of years as an untested politician trying to run the Conservative party, a couple of years sitting on the losing Liberal team… geez, it is so surprising that she is running to the hills.
My guess is that she knew she would lose her seat in the next election, and her ambition or should I say, her father’s ambition for her…was not to be a good MP, but to gain political power. Equally, since Dion is slated to remain as Opposition Leader or disappear – that goal seems equally nonexistent.
So, her father has given her a position at his company – and that’s that.
Glad she going! There such a lack of trust towards politicians already, she was “the straw that broke the camels back”. When she crossed the floor to prop up a failing Paul Martin, that was a very low day in Canadian politics. Hope that we never hear from her again!
now, I am not exactly the most attractive man around, this I will admit….but I never quite understood the hysteria surrounding belomi’s looks…attractive she is not, and if not for the expensive clothes, make-up, hairdos, and whatever else she has done to her body, she would be one ugly woman
I never thought about it until now, but would it be wrong for me to say it…
Belinda Stronach is the Paris Hilton of Canadian politics.
Belinda is the embodiment of the Liberal attitude of entitlement.
She has had everything her whole life, so why not political power too? It must have seemed logical to her that since her Dad gave her the keys to Magna that the huddled, uninformed electorate would quickly hoist her to the very seat of power.
Conservative leader? Why not? If they’re too ignorant, then how about Liberal leader.
Too short of an attention span to stand to be a back bencher and actually learn the job, she is off again back where she started.
For anyone who sees her story as an example of another woman hitting the “glass ceiling”, please spare us the hand-wringing.
This is all about another self-interested individual being “entitled to their entitlements”, and then heading back to the safety net when they don’t come quickly enough.
Can’t wait for the book…”They Treated Me Like A Dog!”
Oh yeah, I forgot to ask: Is Bob Fife coverage of Ms BS just not gaggy? Talk about a lov’in. Yuk!
Is anyone keeping an up-to-date list of sudden Liberal MP retirement announcements since Dion took over? A trickle has turned into a flood.
And how are we going to have “democratic renewal” without Belinda’s brilliant ideas?

Not that Tie Domi’s name comes up in conversation much, but whenever it does, my ambivalent-to-hockey wife always mentions how she can’t believe that Domi left his wife to be with that mutt Stronach.
“there she goes running with her tail between her legs”.
Now, now, Brent. Let’s let sleeping dogs lie.
Wives of Magna execs will be very watchful now, especially if their spouses get huge raises or promotions. Does anyone here really think she will do anything at Magna, except have an office. With all her talk of equality etc, will she appoint any women to the board of magna, or give women high profile jobs.
Wonder if Martha Hall wishes she had waited to get parachuted into a riding. Didn’t she run against BS. Dion can’t get candidates of either sex, and when women quit, he will have to dig lower into the gene pool to get his 1/3 female candidates. Is she leaving NOW, or when the next election is called.
Was she was in long enough to qualify for the gold-plated pension?
“there she goes running with her tail between her legs”.
There she goes running with another dogs tail between her legs.
/there, fixed that.
The Globe and Mail artilce on this story already has 147 comments – as of the time of this posting, and the number’s jumping right up. You can dupe you like, if you haven’t done so already, but it’s moderated.
The Magna Carta of Rights and Freedoms.
This is so expected!
Maybe she has her eye on the Chrysler take-over.
” Was she was in long enough to qualify for the gold-plated pension? ” anon 1:43PM .
And the question of the day award goes to anon ! THAT , would be the most cynical action from ” The Entitled ” evah !! Seriously , the timing probably is close …….
The fortunes of the LPC and the CPC reversed at the exact millisecond that the “minister of complex files” switched sides….
Hmmmmmm.
“Is anyone keeping an up-to-date list of sudden Liberal MP retirement announcements since Dion took over? A trickle has turned into a flood.”
Check my blog for the current list… we’re up to 16 out of 102.
Now, if only Scotty Brison would go back to where ever he came from it would be safe to watch the parlimentary channel again.
“Was she was in long enough to qualify for the gold-plated pension?” anon 1:43PM
No, you have to be in for at least 6 years, if I recall correctly.
I guess Paul martin did look better in the cocktail dress!
Tie will get to see her new pentastar tattoo. He definitely traded down but for all the reliability trouble ownership brings, she’s a loaded model with a great warranty: Daddy will fix everything (maybe even Tie…ouch!).

Not that I was ever impressed by her “abilities” and accomplishments or that I’m displeased to see her go, but she has plenty to be criticized for so why go over the line? She did a remarkable and decent thing by voluntarily giving up her MP salary and benefits. It may be the one decent thing she accomplished but it was decent.
Is she is giving up the position Honourable Member for the less than honourable member of Domi.
Too bad, somebody with (evil) brains might take her seat.
Magna shares are only down a little bit today on the news. I recall there was a “Belinda bounce” of about a 5% gain in share price when she left Magna for politics.
Magna’s stock price dropped slightly today. But Linamar, a major competitor of Magna, jumped by 2.57%.
Not an overwhelming endorsement of Belinda’s managerial skills.
“The Liberal MP has decided she won’t run for re-election in the next vote, choosing instead to return to Magna International Inc.”
Time to sell that Magna stock, boys ‘n girls. Get out now before the end!!!
Note to self: Short sell Magna stock!
AHAHAHAHAHAHHH. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. AHAHAHAAHHAH.
ROTHLMAO
Don’t go away mad Bullinda, just go away!
LOLLOLOLOL
Oh ya, don’t let the door hit you in the rump on the way out . LOLOLOL
PS. Go get some edumacation before you return.
Idiot. What an embarassment.
I believe the best response to this news is a rather ironic French saying:
“Quelle surprise.”
Her departure to politics, and her fathers’ cuts to his compensation package the past couple of years hasn’t helped to increase their personal family fortune. Time for her return to help out with the baking of a bigger Stronach compensation pie.
now ms bee linda is gone to magna with her fodder we the liber al part ee will miss very much her back ,side with us. mr scodd bry soon will take over her dudies as backstop to liberal police see an makesure dat the liberal part ee will not beacom involve in scandal anymore like dat dirty leaf tie domi. I like wish bee linda a ‘appy retire ment to the magna board and life with tie wear she work much hard on it.
Borat Dion , on the resignation of Paris Stronach.
When will ‘these people’ leave politics to those that understand it and go back to their one true calling in life: syphoning up wealth.
For the people asking about the pension eligibilty. Canadian MPs have their pension plan FULLY vested after 6 years of service. Less than 6 years they recieve a reduced pension.
She’s been an MP for almost 3 years so I wonder if she’ll be getting close to a 50% vested pension?
I wonder if we can get the number of by-elections up to 30? Harper may not need a General Election to get his majority if enough Liberal (rats) flee their sinking ship.
Magna must have a crucial essay contest pending for which a judge is urgently needed.
